Assault on Ft Runnick (Book 3).

Using 1" = 5ft.

Utilizing an Association Club house to run the 'board'

Made for a good way to represent. Perfect to bring wave of Ogres to the players, which were are the end of their resources due to having already clearing the inner fort and sub-levels. Showed how even low level ogres can give the players a challenge.

I actually was able to escape with 3 Sergents and 3 minion ogres from the massacre. (Even Ogres won't fight to the last man!!

It is with sad feelings that I submit my resignation as Venture Captain of the LA Grand Lodge. What a weird, strange trip it has been and what a great ride!! As part of the original 13 VC crew appointed by Paizo in September of 2010, we all had large geographic areas and large expectations. Here in Los Angeles, we jumped into our local gaming conventions of ORCCON/GATEWAY/GAMEX and we squeezed out two tables from the Organized play area of the convention. Over the years we have added, and carved out our own dedicated area, with over 85 PFS tables each convention, making for 3 weekends of four days of non-stop PFS gaming throughout the year. We have had a number of stores joining us with regular gamedays: Game Ogre, The Warhouse, Comic Quest, Game Empire, The Realm, Socal Games and Comics, Seth’s Gaming Stores in Ventura, Thou Shalt Game in Temecula, Pathfinder Online Gaming Collective, Aerohobbies, Brookhurst Hobbies, Dicehouse Games, Emerald Knights, GMI Games and Collecibles, Knight Ware Inc, Pair A Dice Games & Commics, the Last Genadier, Third Planet, and a number of other current and past stores throughout Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Los Angeles County and Ventura County. We were a huge region covering many players and many stores.
Our Volunteer crew grew and I received excellent support from my Venture Lt crew: Brian Darnell, Preston Poulter, Jon-Enee Merriex, Mark Dorrough, Nicholas Milasich, Frank Perkins and Ron Feldman. The Store Owners, GMs, store Coordinators and Volunteers made my job a joy: Don Collins, Eric Collins, Bruce Higa, Grant Gaines, and so many others, that I know I could not and have not listed them all, have made this a dynamic and growing region and just because I did not list your name, does not mean that your help was unappreciated nor overlooked. I could not have built this region without each and every one of you.
So what does this mean for the future of the LA Grand Lodge? Due to the growth of the region, and the number of stores and an expanding number of conventions, and events; the region shall be splitting into two new regions: Jon-Enee Merriex the current VL of Long Beach shall be stepping up and coordinating the region of Los Angeles County and coordinating with the Los Angeles Gaming Conventions to continue their run of games, reformulating the Grand Lodge throughout the area. Ron Feldman, VL of Orange County shall be stepping up and taking charge of a new Grand Lodge of Orange County and the Inland Empire, helping the expanding number of stores and conventions that are happening in Anaheim and the Greater Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties). I know they will be stepping up and introducing themselves and their new staff (Venture Lts and Store Coordinators).
Both Ron and Jon-Enee shall be appointing new Venture Lts to help them in their expanded roles and to continue to provide coverage for the play base here in Southern California. And I know that the surrounding Grand Lodges of Northern California and San Diego will continue to support them in their efforts to service the player base of California and the Western United States. I always felt blessed by the support of the surrounding Grand Lodges and Venture Officers who would often join us in the area, coming down to both play and GM in the local events, and I know that the close relationship between the entire PFS community in Southern California shall continue.
Let it be known that I will miss serving with and coordinating events with all of you, and while I will be taking a break, I am not leaving the community and look forward to playing at many of your tables, and continuing to GM a few tables in the future. I love the Southern California gaming community and want to see what is best for the community, while I continue to take care of personal matters and spend more time with my family.

I posted most of the photos already on Facebook, but I know not everyone has or wants to access that service, so:

I still have to work on the Videos I took at the banquet (and find a place to post them).

I am proud to announce a grand achievement by an outstanding GM and coordinator: Brian Darnell!!

Brian is one of the Venture Lieutenants in the Southern California Region, running many games not only in his hometown in Riverside California, but traveling throughout Southern California; San Bernadino, Los Angeles County, Orange County and San Diego Counties.

I cannot say enough great things about Brian, so I will quote just one of the recommendations that I received on Brian:

Quote:

Brian is a wonderful storyteller with a deep understanding of the history, politics and lore of the Inner Sea region. While GMing, that knowledge is on full display and as he uses it to help tell a compelling story. Rolling a knowledge check with Brian is always a joy because not only do you get the box text, you get the context of where that box text comes from. He explains the location of the scenario so well that it gives players a firm grasp on what they are doing, where they are and why.

Brian also has a clear perception of the core rules of the game. In the few instances where he is unsure of a rule (and player doesn't know the proper rule either), he is very good about choosing speed and fun over accuracy. This keeps the game moving at a brisk clip without slowing down. But he's also willing to bend when needed. Allowing the player to look up the rule in question and adjusting as needed.

Brian's table management techniques are so refined, players never feel rushed. He ran through Murder's Mark in just over 6 hours (a feat I've yet to be able to do) and one of his players commented afterward: "I had assumed this was a single slot game that just ran a little long. Now I can play another game too! It was awesome".

Finally, Brian is a fun and interactive character while in the GM seat. NPCs he portrays are always vibrant and full of life. They have their own interests and he is very good about playing into that. I cannot think of anyone more worthy of 5 star status than Brian. He is hands down one of the best GMs in the greater Los Angeles area and, in my opinion, exactly what a 5 star GM looks like. I'll leave you with one last quote:

"Now THAT is a 5 star experience!" Said by me, from my first time through 'The Cyphermage Dilemma' gmed by Brian Darnell.

So join me in congratulating Brian in achieving this benchmark in his PFS career!!

Congratulations Brian!!

We are moving to a new venue, and this allows us to expand PFS beyond the 3 rooms we had, to 5 rooms on the second floor of the Hilton. Each room has space for 3 tables of PFS goodness, Meaning that we have space for over 80 tables of Pathfinder goodness (and the ability to expand to over 120 tables in the future) if we get the players and the GMs.

I have always heard that if you build it, they will come.

So the question is: We have built it, will you be there?

Gnat has always had a curious nature, she wants to explore EVERYTHING! Gnat's parents moved to the Mendov region with the 3rd crusade, fleeing from blighted Sarkoris,, and raised a precocious child in Kenabres.

The entire land is in constant turmoil. Yet Gnat's parents made a living providing services to the constant influx of crusaders.

Gnat followed the great trades of her family and became a tinkerer, a purveyor of potions, and student of alchemy, but this wasn't enough. Gnat's innate curiosity encouraged her to investigate constantly. She combed the city first, learning all it's haunts, all it's nooks, all its crannies.

But this wasn't enough, never enough, there had to be more! So she began searching outside the city, exploring the region. It was all fun and games, until someone gets hurt, right? She found herself trapped behind a constant shifting front line of a demonic scourge. She saw no way to return to the city. She thought she was lost, bereft of friends, allies, and surrounded by evil and the enemy.

All was lost, how is a young, inexperienced, little gnome to survive by herself, then the miracle happened, a young human female warrior aided Gnat. Helping her sneak past a group of cultist to return to the city and safety. The woman did not give Gnat her name, but did present her with a pendent, a holy symbol of Desna.

Gnat took this to heart and converted to worship of the Goddess, unsure whether the woman who helped her was simply an acolyte, an avatar or the Goddess herself. But Gnat swore to take the guidance and to work with all her skills to free the region from the demonic influences.

New Venture Lieutenants in Southern California.

With the continued expansion of Pathfinder Society Play and Players in Southern California, I am proud to announce the promotion of two new individuals to Venture Lieutenants in the Los Angeles Grand Lodge:

In Long Beach we have promoted Jon-Enee Merriex. Jon is an energetic volunteer, organizer and GM who has been working very hard to grow and expand the LA Grand Lodge's presence in the southern LA county area surrounding Long Beach and it's environs. He can be seen often organizing games at the Warhouse in Long Beach and soon at the Bunker in Lakewood, as well as being a constant presence at many of the other PFS events held throughout the LA region and throughout Southern California.

The growth of PFS in Orange County, the southern province of the LA Grand Lodge, has been aided by another great individual Ron Feldman. Ron has been instrumental in establishing a beachhead of PFS play at Comic Quest in Mission Viejo, and is helping us grow PFS at another store called the Mercenary Market in Costa Mesa. Adding these two stores to the Realm in Brea helps Orange County and surround County players expand their options for Pathfinder Society Play.

Be on the look out for both of these dynamic individuals at your local gaming stores, and at our Regional Gaming conventions and game days. Their dynamic presence will ensure that we continue to grow Pathfinder Society opportunities throughout the LA Grand Lodge Region!!

Be sure to welcome them to our team of Venture Officers that are here to serve all your PFS needs throughout Southern California and the LA Region.

Interested in particular events in the LA Grand lodge please join us on Facebook at: Southern California Pathfinder Society

Sincerely
Robyn Nixon

The Los Angeles Gaming convention, GAMEX 2013, is being held over Memorial Day weekend.

We are again hosting it at the Sheraton LAX hotel, with easy access to the Airport, with plentiful parking being provided by a number of parking lots within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Events are running from 2pm Friday through 6pm Monday, over 10 slots of play.

Pathfinder Society Specials being held at GAMEX:

Ruins of Bonekeep Special:
The ruins of Bonekeep have stood outside Absalom for hundreds of years. The crumbling ruin is just one of many testaments to the foolhardy conquerors who tried—and failed—to lay claim to the City at the Center of the World. Records state that it was home to a necromancer who tried to animate the city’s dead, but the armies of Absalom razed the keep to its foundation before he could complete his mighty spell. In the years since, few adventurers have bothered to explore the ruins, finding only a trinket or two for their troubles. What no one ever discovered was the series of dungeons beneath the ruin, which have lain undisturbed until now.

Ruins of Bonekeep is a series of special events for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign designed by Jason Bulmahn, Lead Designer of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. “Level 1: The Silent Grave” is the first event of the series, with more scheduled to be released in
the coming year. This event is designed for six characters from 3rd to 7th level.

Unlike other Pathfinder Society events, this game has a higher level of danger and reward than most, designed to test characters to their limits. In addition, this event has a large number of possible encounters, and the players are unlikely to complete them all in 5 hours. This is intentional.
The event should not be extended beyond the 5-hour limit.
If time expires, the game ends and the PCs escape, even those that are at negative hit points or near death.

This special adventure is being held only at larger conventions, such as Gencon and Origins. But GAMEX qualifies, allowing our Southern California/West Coast players to experience this unique event.

Are you brave enough to accept the challenge?

Register on the GAMEX PFS site:
http://www.warhorn.net/gamex-2013-pfs

And pay on the GAMEX official site
http://www.strategicon.net

Special sessions of this unique adventure with special judges are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday night with a Pizza party scheduled upon its conclusion to afford players bragging rights on how far they complete this adventure.

Join over 300 games for 2 and 1/2 days of gaming, and bring your family for side trips to Disneyland, which is across the street. The perfect family vacation.

We are theming the overnight games for Socal Smackdown to be deep and scary, so bring your fright masks to survive the adventures.

Sincerely,
Robyn Nixon
