Hello, can anyone tell me how the "point buy system" works? The society rule book only says on page 13 that it does but does not explain how.
I'm posting here as I can't find the correct posting area.

I posted answer for you under the first topic you tried.

Hello, could someone point out where the rules are for the point buy system in Society play? I can't seem to find how this is done.

Ability score costs are on pg. 16 of the core rulebook. The rule on how many points to create a character is in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play in chapter 4, step 2:abilities. That's pg 13 of my older version of the document(haven't printed the latest version due to no ink for my printer and no extra money in budget to get some). Hope this helps.

No issues about laptops at Game HQ. Just don't drop it while passing it back and forth.

Cool. I'll try and be there.

I'm new to organized play, what will I need?

Also, my g/f is new to roleplaying in general and may want to come, is this a newb friendly environment?

If you haven't already, download and read the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Register to get a player number. Create at least one pathfinder society legal character and show up with your character(s) and gaming stuff. Help the g/f get prepared as well and there shouldn't be any issues.

How crowded is it, and how can you find out what scenarios are running? I find myself with some interest, but I'm unsure I can spare the time.

Historically we've had anywhere between 5 to 14 or so players at one or two tables, but there might be an increase due to running games at Stillcon in late March. As far as what is going to be played that tends to be worked out on site, depending on who shows up, what they've played and what GM's might have prepped. Our little group is definitely not hyper-organized. The primary official/unofficial coordinator is Michael Kirk at Game HQ, although sometimes someone else will be in charge and Mike will show up later or simply just play.

There is some PFS play in Oklahoma City. Approximately every 1 1/2 to 2 months there is a Pathfinder game day at Game HQ (located south Oklahoma City). The monthly newsletter Game HQ puts out (which can be read on their website at gameheadquarters.com) will have the info on if there will be a Pathfinder Day. We also ran Pathfinder at Stillcon in Stillwater a few weeks back and expect we will run it next year as well. Next game day at Game HQ is April 23. There is a $3 entry for the day and usually we have 2 sessions of two tables prepared. Normal start time varies between 11am-12:30pm.

My primary character is a Bar5/Cleric1. Started with no thoughts of multi-classing. No stats below 10 in initial build. My general play area seems to have a lack of healer types, so I decided to bump Wis at 4th level to 11 and then became a cleric of Gorum with strength & destruction domains at 5th level. I will say that a self-healing barbarian is a nice thing to have! Plays anywhere with any party combinations.

All posts above are excellent advice. I would add for spellcasters to double-check spell descriptions. Some spells are different from 3/3.5 versions. For example, Remove Disease is not an auto success spell any more.

I logged on to my Amazon account and reported abuse on his core rulebook review. Dark Mistress, with the writing styles and the structure of his "argument" I'd be comfortable wagering a sizable amount it's the same guy. Zealot or schizophrenic, I think he needs professional help.

Time magazine article on warning signs on schizophrenia:

Arguably, our original poster has at least three of the six signs. I hope he does get help if that is the case....

Hyrum.

Hyrum, You do realize that St. Louis is ALREADY a part of the state of Missouri. :) It isn't a separate entity.

Now had Hyrum said Kansas City, the statement could have been correct because of Kansas City, KS. :)

I first read his previous postings to try and make sense of his current posting and got nowhere. I've flagged him for attention. In some quick research, the only thing that I came up with is Paizuri is a Japanese slang for a certain sex act per wikipedia. I think our best action is to ignore him/her/it until moderators remove him.

My primary PFS character started as a human barbarian with the following build STR 16 INT 10 WIS 10 DEX 14 CON 14+2 human bonus for 16 total CHA 10. As I approached 4th level I thought about multi-classing. The groups I play with are somewhat light in clerics. At 4th level I boosted WIS to 11. 5th level I took a level of cleric (Gorum with Destruction and War domains). 6th level back to barbarian (where I'm at now). Losses: 1 BAB,2 rounds of rage, 2-3hp and 2-3 skill points(depends if your favored class bonus goes to hp or skill points). Gains: +2 will saves (a weak point for barbarians), spells (including the ability to use cure wands among other wands), channel energy(I used a feat to get extra channeling). Overall, lots of gains, few losses. I plan on using 7th level feat on weapon focus to make up that attack +1 on my primary weapon. I feel this multi-class would be viable up to Bar/8 Clr/4, but I'm not sure if I need more cleric than just the first level. A self-healing barbarian is a nice thing to have!!

I've got to side with the folks that say water has the potential to damage spellbooks, although I would personally rule at least one turn of total immersion before severe damage occurs due to the difference between paper and parchment. A poster above mentioned a waterproof bag in the Adventurer's Armory to support that things like spellbooks could be damaged. There is another source that mentions waterproofing, and at least for Pathfinder Society players (which is my main Pathfinder gaming) it is in a core assumption source. Pg. 17 of Pathfinder Chronicles: Seekers of Secrets has a niffy spell called book ward. This is a 2nd level spell for bard, cleric & wiz/sorc with a duration of 1 day/level. The spell acts like protection from energy (from fire or acid only)and the item is also completely waterproof. Two different sources mention something to protect books from water, so I think that is a strong implication stopping just short of certainty that they can be damaged by water. The damage is a GM call and like any GM call, letting your player's know roughly what you have in mind is a welcome courtesy.

In reading the thread above I can see both sides of the issue. Yes, re-play could be needed in some markets. Yes, re-play can be greatly abused. I would like to offer my opinion on an additional compromise rule that I believe could work without too much difficulty.
Re-play can be used, but only to meet PPP and only with the following restrictions.
(1) No XP awarded to re-playing character.
(2) No PA awarded to re-playing character.
(3) Gold will be awarded, however the amount will be lessor of the cost of expendables/clearing conditions gained that occured within the scenario or the amount the character would normally be awarded.
(4) No purchasing of items allowed before or during the scenario with the exception of clearing conditions gained during the scanario. (this prevents wild spending on expendables possibly throwing the scenario out of balance)

No, your character is not gaining anything by being used, but barring very bad luck (which could happen at any time) your character wouldn't be getting weaker for helping to make a table. You as a player get the fun of playing without your character being penalized for helping to make a table. Of course, this is just my opinion and may be considered or ignored at the discretion of the reader. Enjoy your gaming everyone!!!

Been playing PF for a year now, but just started PFS a couple of months ago so all I have is my main (lvl 2 Fighter) and a 1st lvl Bard. The bard only is used when my other 4 friends and I can play as a group. We are all bards with different performs, togethr we are a band :)

P.S. I'm the drummer :)

You realize that your band will break up as soon as you say "Hey guys, I've got this great idea for a song" :-)

As for the topic at hand, I've been playing PFS for a year now and am just getting into a little GM'ing (three sessions). I have three active characters:
Human barbarian/5 cleric/1
Dwarven monk/2 (who shaves from the waist up and down from the knees)
Elven rogue/2
These characters cover two factions and that's probably the only error, I should have made each a different faction but the Osirion tomb raider trait is a hard one to turn down.

I have a +2 belt of Giant Strength, can it be upgraded to a +2 belt of Physical Might (Str & Dex)?

I've wondered the same thing. Since you're not changing the item to something else (it's still a belt) wouldn't it fall under the normal enhancement rules? You can enhance the same sword & armor upward. Unless I'm mis-remembering (always a possibility)you can enhance a rings of protection & amulets of natural armor upward. Chris, is there a posting ruling by Joshua or one of the other "big-wigs" to this effect?

Oh, and I see someone else has posted much the same message while I was typing. Carry on.

In the campaign I play in the GM does the one level higher routine for sorcerers and it doesn't make things unbalanced, but it does make a wizard slightly less desirable. In reading the posts above an idea came to me: make the ability to get spells known one level higher than actual level a feat. Once you get access to the next spell level, you may cast it once a day. When you would normally get access to the level of the spell you may then cast that level the normal three times a day. Doing it this way, the sorcerer can "keep up" with the wizard on spell levels, but at a price reflecting that the sorcerer is different from the norm and has to work a little harder to do it. What does everyone think?
