Thanks everyone! Keep'em coming! It's funny how my son is intrigued, knows we speak English, but is for some reason reluctant to practice and try. Whereas his seven year old sister is all over it like white on rice! Patrick PS: But she is still too young... Now if I could just get their mother back into RPGs... Hum.. ![]()
Hi, I just bought the BB for my son and myself. I have been playing for 25 years now... BUT, my son, who is almost 10 years old... We are French from Québec, and (obviously) bilingual. He is not bilingual yet. He can read French fast. Very fast. So he is smart. :) QUESTION: Any tips on how to go about teaching him PFRPG since there is still a language barrier? I got tons of images and he watches us play at our monthly game, so he is familiar with some concepts. Thanks! Patrick ![]()
Hi DBU, Good luck with the new game. I just bought the BB for my son and myself. I have been playing for 25 years (!). Got a game going once a month with friends. Just go with one PC for your new player. So much easier.à I remember from the video with Erik Mona, that you can start playing within like 30 minutes of opening the box I think. Which is GREAT with
Bit of personal advice if I may (and this holds up after 25 years of gaming), if you come upon a situation where you need to look up a rule... Spend a couple of minutes on that, THEN if you still can't find the exact rule: Make a fair DM call and KEEP ON PLAYING!!!! Don't get bogged down... Have fun!!! Now I just gotta get my son to read English... :) Patrick PS: And let us know how it turns out! ![]()
Hi,
I got a couple of questions... *****SPOILERS*********** 1- I am thinking of running our evil bad guy as written in BotG, but, the catalyst for Armand coming to the forefront is also contact with Liquid Shadow (see Ptolus - in my campaign someone [BBEG] is using liquid shadow to infect people and turn them into semi-possessed killers). There would be a strong connection with Shadows and the Chaos Cults. 2- Also, BBEG would be behind one of the Chaos Cults, the Cult of the Ebon Hand (deformities and such). 3- I can't find any helpful reviews of Night of Dissolution anywhere... So I am debating whether BBEG would use the Chaos energies released during BotG to release the Galchutt or should I go full on with the Banewarrens adventure? I don't think I can pull both off at the same time... Those of you familiar with BotG and Ptolus, what do you think? Thanks!

I usually ask for a D20 roll from everyone. Then, once I know who has a chance at knowing anything, I ask to see their character sheet at see what Knowledge the PC has. My players never know whether I am asking for a Knowledge, Perception or whatever check. Keeps'em on their toes. AND I don't need to have a copy of everyone's skills behind my screen. And that's not being lazy, but practical! :) Patrick ![]()
Some more info about what I'm looking for... We are three guys between 35 and 40. (Ladies welcome!) I have been DMing 3E for years and switched to PFRPG as soon as it came out! My two buddies haven't played in a few years and my (other) Montreal game is slowly falling apart cos we just can't ever meet all together... :( I want to do a Ptolus campaign.
- Working title for the campaign: Madness Rising
- Looking to play every second or third week. Evening games on the weekends... Have a great day! Patrick ![]()
Hey everybody! I am looking for some players for a Ptolus campaign on Montreal's South Shore. We would play in French. Probably PFRPG. If not, 3E. I will DM (still experiencing with some of the PFRPG rules - But it's a lot of fun!).
We want to have fun! I can send a little file with what I am looking for: No CE, CN, more heroic, etc. Go to http://www.ptolus.com for more info. (But don't read too much!) Let me know! We would play in the Beloeil area. Patrick I'll come back later (I'm at work!). ![]()
A quick post, I'm at work... I think it's a very decent thing for you to consider.
If it makes sense financially, you could try it out. It might interest even ''better'', more well-known talent out there, and sell even more products! ... So next project, you can pay 6 cents / word. :) With the following step being taking over the world. :)

I really don't want to start anything BUT I thought this was supposed be as serious a discussion as can be had about fictional characters... @Leafar The Lost... You started all this because YOUR ''theory'' is that it also enhanced his mind?!?!??!?!? Just to be clear: YOUR ''theory''. How nice it is when fan fic and the real work collide... Obviously fan fic trumps the work. Patrick ![]()
I think selling PDFs is rather iffy as far as the ''ethics'' of selling Open Design goes... BUT, I was wondering... Would Wolfgang and patrons (and I am a patron for most projects) object to someone selling a print copy of a PDF? (Mostly at cost.) And no, I am not looking to get into the print-on-demand business!!!!
I might go mention this thread on The Free City... Hum. Patrick ![]()
I ALMOST pre-ordered this. I'm glad I didn't. (I am reminded of the early days of Image Comics...) Nick was surfing the ''Kobold Quarterly / Open Design'' wave. He wasted an opportunity. That's too bad. We'll see when / if it comes out. I might still buy it. I'm just not excited about it anymore... Patrick ![]()
Hi, I DM and have 2 players... Are you still looking for a game??? I will send an email to Richard later (probably today). Here is a little something I was gonna post...
Looking for a couple of players for my Ravenloft / Zobeck campaign... There’s me (DM) and two PCs. We are looking for another two PCs I guess. It’s a great jumping on moment since the only remaining character from all the way back some 25 plus sessions has died. Alone. Away from his friends. In the snow. :) Actually, he wanted a new PC so I obliged him. So it’ll be a new storyline. Using Open Design and some Paizo adventures! François is playing a cleric of the divinity of mankind. Not sure what Patrice will do yet. Whoever you are, whatever (core – otherwise let’s discuss it) class you want to play, go ahead! Look for Miranda's Journal on this site www.fraternityofshadows.com to get an idea of the kind of game we play... There is action, characters, investigation. Mostly urban with dungeon crawls dressed up as sewers, windmills, etc. (And I use the terms dungeon crawls rather loosely…) I try to go for a mix of character-driven and pulp action! We're still somewhat in the process of wrapping our brains around the Pathfinder rules that just came out! It's pretty laid back and we just want to have fun! And we're playing in French. Patrick

Hi Ben, So many books, so little cash... Isn't Planetary over???? In trade format, BPRD, and its Hellboy variants.
The Walking Dead.
Wasteland does not seem to come out often enough... BUT I was a bit disappointed with the last trade, I need to read it again I think. It felt weaker for some reason... Monthlies, Powers (which feels like a quarterly lately)
Astro City.
Avengers - Bendis' run.
I haven't read any Vertigo in quite a while, but yes Fables is supposed to be amazing. Just some of the stuff... Patrick ![]()
Hi all, Question... I have NEVER watched a full Dr Who episode (and don't know a lot about the series as a whole). Somehow, life keeps getting in the way... Every time I sit down, something comes up. It's like a curse. No kidding. So I caught parts of Waters of Mars, and was obviously confused about some of this stuff. But I really liked what little I saw (and understood). If I would like to buy the DVDs, where should I start? Thanks! Patrick ![]()
This is the show that was too slow starting (Re: Season 1), but really pays off in the end!!!! I kept telling people last season: ''There is more going on. This is interesting! See what's in the background. Things are coming, just hang in there.'' I am officially hooked (been like that since those two episodes in a row-thing started). (And I have never watched anything by Weadon before, so it's not like I'm a die-hard fan. Please no stone-throwing!) :) And the last episode blew my mind.
BTW Adele scares me (a little). And was this the seaon finale?????????????? Patrick ![]()
Essel & Kevin, In English to be polite to people here I guess... :) I will contact you later on this week probably... Thanks for showing interest!
And I am crazy busy and need to finish preparing the next part of the campaign... Then it's back to adapted adventures (means less prep time! Got two kids and a crazy schedule...) And Kevin, we play 99% of the time around Jean-Talon metro station so it should be no problem for you... And Essel, even if you don't know RL (Ravenloft) it's no problem, less secrets to be spoiled! And anyhow, my game is a bit more action-oriented than the usual RL game. It is heavily influenced by Zobeck (the Wolfgang Baur setting from Open Design) and the OD adventures... Talk to you guys later... Patrick here's my e-mail: bulletin_onirique@yahoo.com ![]()
I hadn't thought of that... Sorry it took a while to reply... Busy with real life. Can you PM me with your email, I'm having problems PMing you.
No rush! Thanks! Patrick ESSEL wrote:

Hey, Looking for a couple of players for my Ravenloft / Zobeck campaign... Two of my PCs can't really make it anymore... Look for Miranda's Journal on the Fraternity of Shadows website to get an idea of what's going on... I am the DM and we have Patrice who is a Wizard (with some Akashic abilities from Arcana Evolved).
Right now, with just one PC and a DM, it's starting to look like that Fear of Girls video on UTube... :)
We're playing in French, but we could probably whip up some bilingual thing if there is a need... Patrick
PSS: We also play lots of Open Design, so if you own this stuff, you will have a lot of spoilers... ![]()
AE is AU with the Diamond Throne setting in full color. What's new:
If you're a completist, it's worth it.
I had both and gave my AU to a friend, he now plays an Akashic in my Ravenloft game (!). Try to find the PDF version when there is a sale on(?). But I don't think it's worth 100$ if you already have it. Patrick ![]()
This has probably been addressed elsewhere, if so I apologize. About skill ranks. I think for class-skills, we should keep the Level + 3 max like the OGL. BUT, for cross-class skills, let a character buy them 1 point for 1 rank. Not two points for one rank: Too costly. And then max them at Level + 3 divided by two like the OGL. Just my two cents. Patrick ![]()
It is worth the money! I was a patron for Tales of Zobeck and this one. And, for my part, I hope to get more Zobeck Gaz soon! And to echo what Watcher said, some parts sounded very interesting and unique and yet the more Wolfgang was talking about the project, the more I found myself wishing we had more room and more topics that could be covered! Patrick ![]()
Well here is the answer I got from my comic guy... ----- I sent a product inquiry to Diamond regarding Pathfinder Vol. 9. They say that they didn't receive enough of them from Paizo to cover all of their orders and they don't know when they will. They could show up next week, they may never show up. It's too soon to say with any certainty at this time. Sorry that I don't have any better news for you about this. ----- And I ordered the Beta PFRPG from them too.
So is it the chicken or the egg? :) Any suggestions? Thanks Patrick ![]()
I agree with you DeadDM, it is a bit more complicated... But right now, the PFRPG gives too much access to too many skills IMHO. That's why I wouldn't mind the extra record-keeping in this sense...
Given the choice, I would choose skill points I think.
I am really looking into some hybrid that gives some sense of reality... Patrick ![]()
There is an in-between to the skill system. How about so many points/level depending on class? (I need to work on this.) Let's say for class skills. One point: gives a rank of character level minus 2 (All of this plus MODs) Two points: Gives Char level. Three points: CHar LVL + 3. Cross-class: One point: Half-char LVL minus 2. Two points: Half-Char LVL Three points: Half-Char LVL + 3. Just something I was thinking... If somebody has already come up wiht this and I missed it, my apologies. This way it would give the possibility for being very good or average with skills with less numbers involved???? Patrick ![]()
Did I miss this? When are the next Beta testing PDFs coming out? I want to try them out soon! I am very excited about the PFRPG! I wasn't going for 4E because I was very happy with 3.5. My thoughts (months ago) were that Wizards should have done a 4E compatible with 3.5(!). And this is what Paizo is doing! Wow. Paizo got me back into 3.X stuff in a big way!
