First of all, Zane decides to try and disarm the statue: "I have no idea if, and when this...this...thing might come alive again, but I have no wish to be smashed into a paste, with shields of all things."

After taking the shields off the statue (if possible) and putting them away, Zane activates the pressure plate and returns the stairs to their original form.

"You can come down now guys, I think it's safe. Ven, say thank you to Shelyn for me for all the blessings (channels), they've kept me on my feet."

"Now, it seems this statue has the room at the back for some kind of a key, but I do not recall seeing one so far" - ranger motions towards the back of the strange creature, while approaching the door. After a cursory examination, he adds: "I have no clue how to deal with this lock. We either go up, those doors are unlocked, or I stand aside and let one of you sturdier guys simply beat down this door. I am for up, but what do you say?"

If it's Disable Device DC 30, then Zane can not pick this lock, his total for that skill is +6

"Argh! Die you bastard, die!" - ranger shouts defiantly as he continues to battle the shielded creature, hacking ineffectively both at its shields as well as what he was hoping were exposed areas.

Just a small clarification - Zane is actually now 7/13 HP, with latest channel (heal) from Venedictos. Not sure if Nadab or others included that?

Cursing the shadowy creature from previous encounter that somehow affected both his strength as well as his precision, Zane continues chirping away at the construct, his confidence bolstered by Bern's solid hit.

Just a note in here - if I am not mistaking, we have already retreated from the "ghost" fight in that room filled with smoke, and are suggesting to retreat now from this fight as well. If we retreat again, do we have anything else to go at this point?

I was at full HP, just did not update, my bad. Now I am at 4/13 HP (and updated in the profile)

"He has a keyhole on his back. The golem, in the center of his back. But we do not have key. He's made of wood, burn him!" - Zane almost screams in panic, devastated by the blow. Ranger lunges again, this time with much more caution for his own defense.

Not sure as to what is happening and whether the statue is hostile or not, Zane makes a step back as he assumes defensive position.

"We come from Kassen, and we come in peace!" - is all he manages to say, surprised as he is.

Satisfied that nothing has risen to surprise them, Zane relaxes a bit. He gives an "All clear" signal to his friends while showing at the door in front of him, and then moves slowly down the flight of steps. He approaches the wooden statue of Kassen and proceeds to inspect it for any peculiarities.

Now that I see the map of the room, if allowed, I would like to change Zane's action and to move him towards the south door, still remaining on the same level

Zane moves slowly and very cautiously towards the southern door, lightly tapping with his weapon the floor in front of him hoping there are no traps in here. Once at the door, he pauses to listen if something can be heard from the other side, before continuing to check for traps.

Glancing towards the back to see if everyone is OK with this, Zane starts slowly to go towards the statue, hoping nothing will jump out to surprise him, or that he will not hit a hidden trap.

Zane casts a quick "thank you" nod to the priest and then proceeds to check the illuminated stairwell for traps or alarms of a sort. If he does not find any, the ranger proceeds to descend the stairs slowly, weapon at the ready.

Just for me to understand (remember) - we have just two doors now, one way back in the original hallway (after the room with the traps), leading towards east, but these could not be unlocked/broken. And then, there are also just one more doors leading from the room where we have killed the bug, and those lead in the room with the shadow? Is this correct? Or there are some other available doors also? Maybe that one in the first room of the crypt leading towards east also, did we try that one?

Just seeing how bad the fight against that shadow could have gone prompted me to ask - are we anywhere close to maybe reaching level? We had a few solid encounters so far, I'd say...

"You..." - is all Zane was able to say. Once again cold tendrils grazed his heart and the unnatural chill made him wince in pain. Clutching his chest the ranger consider stepping behind Nadab, but decides against it. Without my bow, I can not hurt it from there. I'd be worthless

Enraged by the thought that he could not help his friends, the ranger steps towards the obscure creature hoping to flank it with Bern, and strikes again venting his frustration. "Die you scum. Die again!"

Short sword attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Potential damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
I think all factors are calculated properly - current STR 9, so -1; -2 for smoke; +2 for undead as fav. enemy, +1 for Masterwork, +1 for ranger BAB. I do not think we have a flank now, is that correct?

"Argh!" - Zane lets out a scream of pain as he feels the coldness grazing his chest and remaining there, even after the shadowy creature has retracted it's hand.

Surprisingly fast, young man drops his bow and with a flick of the wrist a short sword appears in one hand and Zane plunges it towards the shade.

Shortsword attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 2 + 2 = 6

-1 for STR already calculated, -2 for smoke, +2 for fav. enemy undead (which I forgot to include in my last attack roll). Still, just a big miss, nothing else :-( Zane now at 13/14 STR

"A shadow! Watch out!" - Zane shouts as he shoots the arrow towards the incorporeal enemy. His intent was more to simply show his party mates where the enemy was than to really try and hurt the unknown creature.

Zane turns to his 3 comrades and informs them in a low voice: "I don't think there are traps or alarms on this door. However I can smell smoke. Maybe there's a camping fire or something other side of the door. Bern, would you mind going in first? "

"I understand padre. Let us make it so." - Zane shuffles his backpack until he finds the potion, uncorks it and drinks its contents. Potion of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 At least I am assuming it is 1d8+1, if it is something else, I will change accordingly

Still a bit groggy, Zane grasps his weapon stronger and then approaches the door checking them for any potential hidden surprises.

"What? Yeah..yeah, I am fine...thanks..." - very slowly Zane gets up to his feet, shaking his head slowly. He still felt a bit unsecure, but Shelyn's blessing invigorated him. He picks up his weapon, looks at the corpse of the dead beetle and then adds: "So, it would seem that the company of minotaurs that ran over me, simply got away, eh? No worries, we'll get them somehow..."

With a light chuckle, he winks at Nadab, pats Venedictos on his back and asks: "Got anymore of those Lady's blessings padre, cause I feel like...well, I could use some more, let's put it that way."

Zane manages to sidestep majority of the acid stream, however what little caught him was more than enough to knock him down. Similar to Venedictos, Zane falls down hard and lies still.

"Spread out, it will breathe acid again! We need to kill it fast!!!" - his words almost barely coherent, Zane moves to flank the creature in order to be sure he will hit it. He swings it's short sword, hoping for a purchase, shouting like possessed: "Kill it, fast!"

Similar to the priest, Zane gets caught up in the full brunt of the creature's assault. Coughing and coursing intermittently, Zane tries to retaliate to the dangerous creature, before he is downed like Venedictos.

"Nadab my friend, wait a second. Seems that these doors can be opened." - instinctively, Zane goes to check for potential traps but realizes that after half-orc's gentle push, this is redundant. So ranger readies his weapon and tries to open the door.

"Roldare, I hope you do not mind me asking this, but the crypt seems like a tough place. If we're gonna to retrieve your sister we'll need all the help we can get. Can we take the healing potions you have in there, and maybe the lanterns?"

Assuming he agrees to that, I would suggest that Bern and me take the healing potions (if everyone is OK with that?), and maybe take one or both bulls-eye lanterns, plus the oil. What say you?

Zane enjoys the healing surge of Shelyn, feeling her blessings guided through Venedictos washing over them, mending their wounds.

As Roldare recounts his grim tale, Zane listens with patience, making sure he does not interrupt the obviously very shaken person. Finally, he asks: "Dimira...is that your sister?"

After patiently waiting for response (again), he adds few more questions: "You said there were six of you. Who were the others, are they also villagers like you? Give us their names. Do you know what happened to them? How did you end up in here?"

Zane looks at the priest, pain in his eyes: "I can pull the bolt if ya want me, but I don't know a thing 'bout healing. If someone can stop bleadin' after I pull it of, then fine"

With his usual attitude of "Strike first, run fast" Zane is clearly not the best negotiator they have. However, Venedictos spoke like he was blessed by Shelyn herself. Hearing the compelling speech delivered by the priest, even after being struck by a crossbow bolt, Zane is thoroughly impressed. So impressed that he listens to the priest against his own urges to finally kick down the door/barricade, and retreats a few steps back.

Very reluctantly, Zane decides to listen to advice from Venedictos. For him, shooting a crossbow at someone could and did not constitute a "friend" no matter how scared he was. Still, he decides to give the priest and his hunch the benefit of the doubt, as he backs away for a few steps, letting sacred man of Shelyn to try and talk his way through the barricade.

"Name?!" - Zane is so thoroughly surprised by priest's question that he almost forgets basic precautions. Yet, hissing crossbow bolt reminds him of danger and he tries to push the door again and reveal their attacker or attackers.

"Watch-out, crossbow bolt!" - Zane is aware of the danger, but at this moment he can not really simply stop. Therefore he tries to force the door to open, reasy for a fight.

Zane moves towards the northern door as silently as possible, gripping his weapon hard. He was fully expecting another group of skeletons to assault them the moment they opened the door and he was hoping not to tip them off of their approach.

Once at the door, he inspects them more closely, trying to find the way if they can be opened/unlocked.

Hurrying to reach the door on time Zane falls in another, previously unmarked trap. Cursing like a sailor, his pride hurt much more than anything else, he asks nearby Nadab and Venedictos to help him out.

Again, Ditzie is not working for me (on iPad), so I will try to describe Zane's movements as best as possible. I will consider that Zane is currently at South part of map, while Bern and the open doors are North. Please position Zane on the map according to my movement description.

Hearing Bern saying that the door unlocked, Zane hurries towards his position. Well, not so much hurries as moves as fast as possible, all the while trying to avoid known traps. He was unwilling to rush through the unknown corridors so he does his best to retraces it's steps and moves towards the door.

Double move - NE, NE, NW, N, N, N, NW, W, NW; I am not really sure but I think this is the maximum Zane could reach in one round without running (not sure if he could bypass known traps when running/sprinting)

Zane had no idea what to answer to the priest, but he tried to sound confident: "Yes, please put it back. Now - One, two, three - switch!"

Being wary of another fall, Zane take his time in climbing out of the hole on the other side. He positions himself near the switch, and then shouts to his friends: "Venedictos, Nadab, grab the nearest switch and pull it on my count of three. Bern go towards the door - you're the strongest among us, find some way to keep them open until we get there." If they open at all...

Zane waits for Bern to report that he has reached the door, and then counts down steadily and loudly: "One, two, three - switch!"

He waits for a moment or two, hoping that it will work, if he can the sound of the door opening, or Bern reporting something.

Startled by Nadab's fall, Zane is relieved to hear that everything is OK with half-orc: "Pillows?! In the pit traps...but why would someone do that?!"

Now convinced that there are even more traps in the labyrinth, Zane proceeds towards the switch, cautiously probing the floor ahead with his weapon.

Feeling cold sweat building bellow his armor, Zane stops in his tracks just before hitting another trap. Again, he takes his chalk and carefully marks the location of yet another pit, all the while gesticulating to Bern and others where the danger is. He goes back towards Venedictos and the fighter, informing them both about the trap as well as of the switch: "What do you think these switches are for? Nothing happened when I flipped the first one. Maybe we need to activate them all? But how much is all?"

After hearing the opinions of the other party members, Zane proceeds again towards south, this time taking the eastern tunnel.
