Listen, that device is really dangerous. I don't think it will help you... and Necromancy doesn't just effect the dead. it can drain life from the living, leaving people nothing but desiccated husks. or it can imbue corpses with a facsimile of life, and a burning hatred of the living. Ysolde gently places her hand on his, and brushes it away from the device You could kill half the city, or raise up every corpse for miles as a ravenous ghoul. Please, go to the temple Ys looks back to Sora, looking for an indication of the plan.

Parley with possible mass destruction as leverage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12

Okay, leg, leg you can work with Antares says urgently as the two examine the situation Talk him away from the machine, and try to get a look at it

Oh, I'm sorry, I hadn't thought about your leg. but listen, I'm kinda a magic-expert... you don't want a necromantic limb... I can't imagine it would be pleasant. listen there's a temple, 5 days along the main row, then go east at the fortress of Drazhu, and keep going until you reach the Temple of Alphine. Ask for sister Amelina, she's an extremely skilled healer. tell them Ysolde... actually, don't mention me She ends the sentence sadly, they wouldn't want to hear about her, wouldn't approve.

Reveal the Way: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6

While she talks to him, she looks ove the device, examining controls and sigils. the sisters had only covered the black-arts in passing, and only the methods of combatting them, but Shy's books, and the books Evmadrea (another "wayward girl") had smuggled into the temple had gone into much greater depth.

Spout Lore: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11

Female Sky folk | Lvl 1 | XP 4 | HP: 12/12 | Armour -1 | Damage 1d6 | STR 0 | DEX 0 | CON -1 | INT 2 | WIS 1 | CHA 2 Spells: Light, Prestidig., US, Contact, Charm, Detect

The reality of what she just did hits Ys like a charging mammoth. Okay, this is bad, what do I do?. Ys desperately thinks back to her lessons.
The church and saints of Alphine must be respected, punish them for their trespass! commands the voice of mother superior Cerys
Often, you will find that sinners are simply misguided, needing someone to lead them into the light. Sister Amelina quietly tells her
You're so fragile, you wouldn't last a day in the real world sneers Orisianna
Don't risk yourself, simply apologize and leave Pleads Antares, this one not imaginary.
But I can't just leave them, Shy said these were dangerous, they might hurt somebody. Then the answer come to her in a flash, Shy, she taught Ysolde some magic, including a spell that just might get them out of this current predicament, all it needs is eye contact...

I'm sorry, that was wrong of me, I mean you no harm, I am simply concerned about that device, and It's function. Ys says, unleashing the spell the moment his eyes meet hers, and hoping the swirls of light-arrows and golden hair disguise the brief flashes of magic from his allies

Cast Charm Person: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7
Gonna forget the spell

Ys has Antares revert to lantern form, and go stay by Shy as she walks forward, toward the leader, extending her hand Lets start over, I'm Ysolde, a Saint of the goddess Alphine, Who are you, and what does this device do?

You need to stop messing with that Right now! ys says, stepping forward again, infuriated that this heretic won't heed her warnings. her rage and fear mingling, she orders antares to asume arrow form, and sends a shot right behind the Orc's head, before adding Or Else!

Parley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10

They aren't telling him to stop, he needs to stop, that's Necromancy, the blackest arts. Step away from the device at once! It is black magic, forbidden by the Goddess. It is not safe to meddle with. she says, the forceful voice of a saint she had spent so long mastering, she steps forward, not so far as to deprive Shy of Antares' protection, but far enough to be at the front of the group.

Female Sky folk | Lvl 1 | XP 4 | HP: 12/12 | Armour -1 | Damage 1d6 | STR 0 | DEX 0 | CON -1 | INT 2 | WIS 1 | CHA 2 Spells: Light, Prestidig., US, Contact, Charm, Detect

Careful Shy, he's a necromancer I say quietly, stepping up behind shy, and extending antare's sheild to her, before beconing to Sora, and whipering to her We're kinda surrounded, what do we do?

As the group stumbles upon the orc, Antares reacts instinctively, surrounding Ys with a glowing aura. her eyes glow gold as she casts them around, before muttering a simple spell, to reveal magic in the area.

My thought was to have orcs worship a god of minstrels as one of their gods. They are renowned for their ability to tell epic tales, some even claim it's magical or divine. While rare, the sight of an orc with an instrument is inspirational to people because a night of epic tales and legends told by an orc is a night that elders tell their grandchildren about and royalty pay handsomely for.

okay, what I have is an atavistic religion (well, a good number have converted to the gods of "civilization). basically, the god we worship were... unimpressed by the tribal people on the plains of death, they ignored them, and as such never gained worshipers among them. instead, they put their faith in the greatest power that was near them, the beasts of the plains. in their worship, they tattooed, or ritually scarred, the images of animals onto themselves (you can learn a lot about an orcs aspirations and station by their tattoos)

if that conflicts too much, just use yours

Ys recoils at the harsh reaction to her innocent inquiry, and Antares flared from his usual golden hue to a glaring red one. She follows the rest on their way, moving up toward Sora during the journey Is it just me, or are the people here kinda mean?

I think orcs originally lived in the far west, beyond the great mountain ranges, in a visciosly predatory savana. it is a place of strong predators, strong prey, and strong people. for thousands of years the lived as hunter-gatherer and simple agrarian people, organized into disparate tribes. Living in this hostile environment gave them some valuable attributes, including a thick hide, generally mottle grass green and grey, and the aforementioned keen senses

nowadays, they are more spread out, having emigrated to the entirety of the known world, though their largest populations are still on the plains of death.

as A side note, there are 6 of us

Ysolde has spent most of the trip in conversation with Antares. it has been a hard few weeks, and a lot of her still feels guilty for leaving. When they reach the city, she and Antares are both maudlin.

the abandoned neighborhood is so familiar to Ys, The place fits the description a few of her friends from the chapel (which also served as a home for wayward girls) gave of their homes. Maybe she could meet someone nice here.

If no one stops her, she knocks on the door of one of the inhabited manors.

Maybe I should go back... maybe they'll take me back Ysolde thinks, standing off into the woods a little as the others discuss where to go next. Antares flashes angrily, and point toward the group, his intention clear "You aren't leaving them, not Sora, or Shy."

I hope it doesn't summon Nathan every time Ys thinks as she dismisses the spirit. She sits quietly, while Reno and Sora discuss the affairs of the new church, but eventually, the question burning in her mind, the question she and Shy had spent days pondering, bursts out

in the simpler vernacular (sorry, I'm feeling eloquent today) when you take this move, you devote yourself to a deity in the fiction (move first. or prescriptive), and if, in the fiction, you devote yourself to a deity, you get these moves (Moves second, or descriptive)

and, as for the deity move, it is very hackable "The wind and sky" is a pretty good domain (According to Adam, those domains are there specifically to prevent players from selecting prohibitively narrow domains, and to give them some guidance.) And that domain is pretty similar to the ones listed. and I've found that you can pretty safely invert any of the domains, and they are still pretty good (the god of blight and devastation, the god of primal nature... etc.) so maybe "What stands above?" if we want to stik closer to RAW.

and of course, this is all up to mini, so I'll stop backseat GMing.

Mini, do you subscribe to the 'Prescriptive & Descriptive" model of move acquisition, specifically in this instance in regards to the cleric moves Deity and Divine Guidance?

Previously

What is the most powerful being in these woods? Ys asks, not passing up an opportunity to gather information

Now

ys doesn't like hearing Sora talk about the sisters like that. they tried, they tried to heal me, they tried to raise me, they tried to teach me how to be a saint. They fed me, clothed me, educated me. I was my fault, my fault I ran away, my fault I couldn't be good enough, that I gave up. She thinks.

Before you can bring her to the masses, you must bring her into your heart and mind. Find some way to commune with the goddess, and discover her will for you. be exemplary in it's conduction, and humbly devote your deeds not to strength or steel, but to the power and glory of your lady. When others see your faith, and the deeds it compels you toward, they will see her glory within you, and be drawn to her worship Ysolde tells sora, reciting almost verbatim a passage from the 3rd holy book of Alphine, altering it slightly to match the circumstances.

The major command there is Find a way to commune with her, just to clarify

They didn't intentionally botch the healing, they tried and were unable to perform the miracle. the goddesses will was the barrier, because I was destined to be one of her saints.... Ysolde says, when Sora starts talking about The church. And they didn't starve me, I just had a diet to preserve my health and appearance... it's important for a saint to look dignified. same reason I was wearing those platform sandals, so that I didn't have to look up at everyone. I don't know why you hate them so much. they were kind, they educated me, they only hit me when i was being willful. Ys is clearly getting flustered

I finish drawing a simple summoning circle in the dirt a little ways away from camp, and begin incanting. Cast Contact Spirit: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 = 9

The circle glows slightly, and I feel a presence form within the cirle. Shy, I think I've got the formula right this time, come here! I shout back at the camp, exultant.

Umm... I'll lose the spell, and I don't actually have any question to ask it. if you want tu use this as a plot hook or something, that would be cool. otherwise, it was just a practice spell/the reveal in game

Ysolde says, squeezing her friends hand Besides, they intend to kill him. after that, you can take his notes, and figure out as much as he knew. And then you will rederive any gaps in the process yourself

Then once they leave, Ysolde will let Shy in on the plan You and I can ride on your broomstick, and Sora can fly. Himnon has expressed interest in growing wings on himself with his magic. that leaves 3 of us unable to fly, do you think you could brew up a potion to fix that? She asks

Ys looks at the two paths a while, listening to the others, before she turns to Antares. He's a slaver and a Lich. We need to dispose of Drazhu she communicates over their telepahy
No, you should leave. he replies harshly.
What? After what he did to Sora, and Ammy, and who knows how many others? We need to bring him to justice
What you want is not justice, it is vengance. you must leave, to protect yourself and your allies he replies, flaring bright red
So what if it's vengance! He deserves it. Ys replies, anger plastered upon her face
This anger, it is toxic, it will lead you into danger, and deliver you to the black gates. If you attack Drazhu, you will all die, or worse. They will clip Sora's wings, destroy Ammaranth, I dare not even consider what use they would find for a witch like Shyness. Leave! Antares flares brighter upon the final word.

Thus negating the second two rides I trust you Shy, you're good on a broom while they take off, she coaches Shy (not because she is incompetent, the girl is more powerful than most elder members of the church, but because she lacks confidence) It's gonna be okay, just lift off gentle, take your time, we're in no rush. and keep steady here, no big flashy descent, just slow and steady she goes on like this, rubbing her shoulders to calm her. Because, my dear elf, Shy is no ordinary woman. in her hands, an ordinary broom becomes an extraordinary means of transport. Right Shy! Ysolde says, shaking Shy's shoulder gently. By the way, my name is Ysolde, renegade saint of Alphine. who are you?

So guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the bridge to the outside is broken. that won't be a problem for Shy adn Sora, or nate probably, but those two don't have wings or brooms or weird climging ability, and my wings are ornamental Ysolde pipes up, aware of the possible time crunch, and also wanting to feel the sun on her skin again. I wish I could tan she thinks Then again, I would probably just burn.

Because I want to get soem RP in with Ammy, I'm going to do a flashback/what happened last night

As the others were bedded down, Shy having finally gone to sleep after an hour calming her down, Ysolde decides she will stay up a bit, and Keep Amaranth company. Anares floats immediately over to the golem, and, assuming she allows it, falls asleep (Turning silver-blue as opposed to his usual vibrant gold) on her shoulder or in her lap. He likes you She says to the Flame-wreathed woman And Sora tells me you were protecting her in... that place. Thank you for that

After responding to Ammy, she silently reads the journal. After she is done, her brain still reeling with a mixture of disgust and envy, particularly at the detailed drawings of the Orc stroking her wings. Ammaranth? Did a lot of people feel this way about my sister? does she inspire this sort of desire in people?

after that conversation, she will decide to learn about her sisters protector. What are you? I've never met a person as remarkable as you before.

and, back in the present, she will immediately rush over to help poor Shy up. Anything special about that gesture, do you think?

Having tracked down the journal post, I'm kinda tempted to double bond with Sora (seems apropriate given their fairly extensive history together) something along the lines of Sora has so many people Lusting after her, I wish she would teach me how to be noticed.

it's fun playing deeply insecure characters, so many options.
