I would've assumed that was already asked but I didn't find anything in my search.
Can a character retrain a feat that was granted by a class? For example could a Skald retrain their Scribe scroll they got at level 1?
Thanks
After hearing the arguments I think that the elemental Plane-touched are good as they are.
Now I want an Inevitable and Protean Native Outsider race... Time to fire up the homebrew engines!
@Kazaan the Blood of the Angels/Fiends sub-species. I was specifically thinking the LN and CN planes.
@Marco I forgot about the Genasi or Gensai or whatever. I'd accept that the races that I mentioned could be those sub-species.
You seemed too willing to point me at JJ... You wouldn't lead me astray just for kicks would you?
And back on note... That's a shame, I think those sub-species and Law/Chaos oriented Native Outsiders would be awesome (and would sate my need for symetry).
Is there a source that has covered the possible sub-species similar to Aasimar and Tiefling? If not, who do I need to water board to get this going?
I think I could be bothered to refresh a buff once every lifetime.
Thanks you people are awesome.
Does reincarnate cure dead from old age?
Egads... Get this man a cookie. Crochety Solar here I come!
I'm way too pretty to be a wizard :D
With the exception of dying is there a way to become an actual outsider? And even at that don't you lose everything when you become a petitioner?
I'm playing in a game with a Dhampir Undead Lord and a Fetchling Brawler. The Dhampir player recently requested to become a lich and it was ok'd which prompted the Brawler to want to get some sort of Template and our cleric suggested Vampire. So now we have or are going to have two undead characters and myself and I was trying to think of a template or ability that I could take that would make me ageless. Any Paizo book is allowed. Any ideas or suggestions?

Quote: Primal Magic (Su)
At 1st level, a primalist may attempt to channel primal magic as a swift action to cast a prepared spell without losing that spell from its spell slot. Essentially, a primalist is forcing primal magic into the world and attempting to shape it into a specific spell effect. To use this ability, she casts the spell as she would normally, but as the spell’s effects take place, she makes a concentration check (DC 20 + double the spell’s level). If she fails this check, she expends the spell normally as if she had cast it, but its actual effects are replaced by a primal magic event with a CR equal to her caster level and she is staggered for 1 round per level of the spell she was attempting to cast. If she makes this check, she casts the spell normally and it is not expended from her prepared spell slot, allowing her to cast that spell again at a later point.
Enhance Primal Magic Event (Su)
At 5th level, when a primalist triggers a primal magic event, as a swift action she can increase or decrease its CR by 1. If she makes a concentration check (DC = 15 + the primal magic event’s CR), she can instead increase or decrease the CR by 2. If she reduces a primal magic event’s CR to less than 1, the event is negated. She can choose to use this ability after she determines what primal magic event she triggers, but before she resolves the effects of that event.
By my count that is 2 swift actions (which cannot be bought with larger actions I thought) and a standard in one turn. Am I missing something?
-I'd start with 25+ HD of Abberation, Large, Extreme Str and Con, Terrible Int and Cha, Eternal Template (found on D20pfsrd), and throw mythic ranks at it until you think you could "kill" superman.
-Natural attacks 2 slams with 18-20 X3 crits
-DR 20/Epic or -
-Immune to anything that lowers ability scores, mind affecting effects, Death effects, Crits, & anything else that might be appropriate
Also in the off chance you don't know this guys full story you owe it yourself to get up to date on him (I'm sure there is some sort of Wiki entry for him). He is truly horrifying.
Anything Krieg (Borderlands 2 "Paladin")! For example…
- I powdered my cockatiel for the rib cage slaughter.
- I like my loot like I like my baby steaks… RARE!
- Look at me when I scream at your soul! You loud sacks of filth and sour cream can hit me with your pain pinatas all day, but you'll never take the jellied fantasies of my wasted youth! My stomach is clear and my mind is full of bacon!
- Box cover, box cover! I'm the one who eats the stardom! I'm the hero of all the villains! You can't swallow my morality like a lollipop pill! I'll run around your mind and set the world record with my meat sleeves!

Rogues have Full BAB and as an advanced Rogue Talent they can get pounce. My group has thought about changing the flanking requirement to the target being threatened by another ally.
I like this extra flat damage idea instead of the +Xd6.
One hit or maybe one round of +1d4 fire damage.
I used an Immovable rod to pretty well guarantee that I wasn't going to get bull rushed off a ledge. They also "lock" doors really well. I've attempted to use one against a borrowing critter that swallowed me whole but my DM vetoed it.
We used Ring gates (not sure they are in Pathfinder yet) as a portable murder hole.
One of my buddies when he was DMing made suicide bombers via Bag of Holding and Portable hole. Not cost effective but very effective!
Smoke stick to cover up the sovereign glue on the floor.
I'm sure there have been more but I don't remember them.

Wisdom in the Flesh lets you choose a Str/Dex/Con Skill and makes it a Class Skill that uses wisdom. It's a Religion (Iomedea) trait.
*EDIT* I think it's Irori not Iomedea
Just because that character is the king doesn't mean he/she gets to tell everybody what to do... One Joffery is enough.
*EDIT* Incase you are unaware there is a player's guide for this campaign. It's a free download and it should have a lot of useful information in there.
1 Skill Monkey
1 Healbot
1 Engine of Arcane Destruction
1 trained stick swinger/thrower
Huh? I kind of liked this idea... It seems the concensus on DMPCs is underwhelming. I've never had a bad experience with a DMPC and certainly not a bad enough experience to excuse my self from the game.
Maybe change the story so that the PC's are desparately trying to catch up to him, as opposed to escorting him. And they finally catch him just as he goes Vadar and they get held up/knocked out of action long enough that he is out of their reach. Then continue as planned.
I assume this has been brought up before but could PA and CE just be absorbed into regular attack rules? I guess Deadly Aim also belongs in this group.
The feats would probably have to be changed to keep everything that requires them from also needing changed.
Thoughts?
3.5 Feral Human Druid "Shifter" (I think, the PHB2 replacement for Wildshape)
RP was alot like Victor Creed and combat was, well combat was interesting. Heaps of Natural Armor and strength.

Power Attack...
Argument now invalid.(For things that are vastly better than everything else) People don't dip 2 levels of MoMS for power attack...

We just recently killed that "Lizard-Boar" (With Devastating Wake?) critter (CR 16+/-) from the back of Beastiary 4. Our Cleric/Musket Master shot it a couple of times and my Sword Saint damn near took 80% of his total HP. It was a Critmas miracle for both sides. We we're level 12 Mythic 2 at the time. Our other character took shots at it but missed.

NG is within 1 step of CG.
I'm reasonably sure you'd treat It's racial HD as levels in Pixie and everything after that could be class levels. And if you add the Young Template to the Pixie is becomes a tiny CR3 with some stat adjustments (-4 Str/Con +4 Dex I think).

Anyone can have a good war mount with Handle Animal.
Holy Avenger? Meh...to lawful.
Your right, they are both all around good guys, except when Link comes in your house, smashes your pottery and steals your hard earned peasant money, then runs outside, stabs your chicken seven or eight times, the blows a hole in your shed to steal your retirement savings and smashes into you tree and eats all your apples. Link feels Chaotic Good or Neutral Good at best. :)
A Pixie? Hrm...to big. They are small sized. And people would start asking if I was dWonder if I could do a Lyrakien with levels...have to figure out how that works...
Maybe Link is a high level Aristocrat. He's not silent he just doesn't feel the need to talk to peasent filth. He's not stealing peasent money, he has a strong sense of entitlement and is claiming what is rightfully his. :D
And being serious again, maybe a pixie with the young template? I chose pixie because it was the first "fairy" like critter I saw that had flight and wasn't Chaotic.
*Edit* Had a thought.
We are blaming Link for us using him to break into peoples homes and taking everything they own... Have we no shame!
master_marshmallow wrote: Paladin isn't really the Link thing, Link doesn't cast spells, he uses magic items. Especially in the newer games where he doesn't even have a magic meter. Humbly,
Link is the Hero of Courage = Paladins have an Aura of Courage
Link has Epona = Paladins can have their mount
Master Sword, The Blade of Evil's Bane = Holy Avenger?
Link doesn't have spells (OoT excluded) = True but Paladin spells aren't really flashy
Link is an all around Good guy = Paladin minus the stick is an all around good guy (IMO)
Also, have you considered leadership for Navi purposes? Use a Pixie w/ Bard levels as a personal google app and buff buddy!
I found my Link I made with Excel. It felt right to me but I changed it around a little to meet mostly what you had already. I can kind of put it here if you're interested.
Am I not seeing it or is there not a class mentioned? I suggest Paladin and the Master Sword can be a Holy Avenger or the "Mythic" Avenger and you get a free Epona. Also I would have what ever familiar you get worry about the Knowledge checks (in true Navi fashion). And finally with all those weapons I might suggest dropping the skill focus for Quick draw.
*Edit* Forgot Eldritch Heritage requires Skill focus...
In my first IK session we fought some unsavory bandits and we wanted to question one of them, so after combat I go to stabilize the only one that's just bleeding out. Roll my medicine check and get a pair of ones. Murder by malpractice... Now anytime I use medicine to fix anybody up I have to endure the ridicule of my party.
Shoot/Stab/explode 8 bandits in an encounter no one bats an eye, kill 1 bandit with bandages and suddenly everybody loses their mind.

Orthos wrote:

This I agree with whole heartedly. I don't know anybody that wants to roll out an entire mass combat round 1 attack at a time.
OSuthainn wrote:
With armies of 100-200 it's pretty easy, troops, espeically archers tend to spread out a little and 2 lines of 50 men or so would be more than capable of seeing and shooting a single man. Versus mages there's also the distance factor, archers can start firing at 1000 feet or so away, that's a lot of volleys to endure before you get in spell casting range (of course invisibility etc can help, but thats more spells used and they can be countered just as easily).
The Perception DC to see someone 1000 feet away is 100. I can't make that DC and I don't suppose the rank and file soldier even gets a 15 when taking 10. That's 150 feet before someone spots you and that's for someone just walking up to the army. Imagine someone actually trying to be sneaky.
I think the morale of the story here is.
Realistic Mass Combat: Paizo Bad. Simplified Mass Combat: Paizo Good.

Orthos wrote: And any general who doesn't get his/her surviving troops away from that wall ASAP is an idiot and deserves the beating s/he gets.
And even then, after that spell is cast, it's one guy versus a whole lot of arrows or incoming spells.
I'd be willing to bet that the smoke generated by 260 feet of burning corpses would grant a fairly substantial miss chance vs an eclipse of arrows.
Suthainn wrote: Of note, it also seems your GM might either be unsure what to do or is simply giving you wins (simply killing the leader of a Barbarian army doesn't make them all instantly follow you... maybe all focus their attacks on you sure). If an enemy commander see's a PC alone and with no backup... they'd be insane not to tell their troops to temporarily ignore the enemy army and murder the PC instead, killing one of the ruling council of an enemy kingdom would be a huge blow. Also bear in mind that he could have used the exact same principles himself, send in a single very tough enemy with class levels to murder your entire city back home, after all using the mass battle rules it would win... About our DM: I don't know if we were supposed to have a chance to take the Barbarian army but it didn't seem like he had cobbled that part together. What he said made sense, the barbarians followed the strongest and their strongest was challenged and beaten.
About the opposing army spotting a PC and directing his entire army at one person: I agree that it would be a priority item but getting an entire army to target a single unit doesn't seem plausible. How many soldiers are going to be able to see what they are shooting at? The first 2 or 3 rows maybe? And in melee more than 8 on 1 isn't going to work.
About 1 man armies attacking our cities: I wouldn't have complained about it. I would've reminded him that each of our 4 cites has a sizable defense modifier from walls, garrisons, and castles (all but Varnhold has a castle).
Although that makes me wonder, were the trolls/wyverns supposed to be outside the city?

Chuckbab wrote: Well, this proves why the mass combat system really can't be used to play 1-man army...
A +5 bonus to OV because you can cast 5th level spell is ridiculous.
It makes sense for an army of 200 1th-level magus to have a +1 because they can cast 200 Color Spray spells per day...
It doesn't make sense for a single character to have a 5 times larger bonus because they can cast one powerful spell per day.
I think an argument could be made that it's not a single 5th level/day spell but the culmination of several 1st-5th level spells throughout the day. A creeping doom, a d3 Huge Fire Elemental, and a magically Buffed Synth Summoner can cause a lot of havoc amidst an army.
But I do see your point 200 CL 1 magic missles would probably sting.
Tangaroa wrote: Lessee.. ability to summon creeping doom. Ability to spam huge elementals, each lasting 12 minutes. Yeah, that would mess an army up.
I think the only thing that doesn't translate well is weapons, unless you had significant magical weaponry.
Maybe, +3 Amulet of Mighty Fists. 5 +3 Weapons for a 1 man army...

The base offensive modifier would have been +4 rather than +12. It's straight ACR, with no bonuses. It's plausible for special tactics (none known until a battle is won) and class-based special abilities to increase this by a good amount, but increasing by +8 seems excessive. Do you recall what your army's OM-bonuses were for?
This detail alone may be enough reason for your overwhelming success :)
Herolab gave me
Level 5 spells @ +5 OM
Eidolon @ +1 OM

Magic Weaponry @ +2 OM (I think)

How should I handle a situation where the players attempt to target the commander of each army? I know if I just say they can't do it, there will be some complaining. How would you guys handle it?
-Car
If they are trying to target the opposing commander with their own army I'd say no. They are fighting as an army, and aiming an entire army at an individual among their own army isn't likely to happen.
But if they wanted to attempt to assassinate them personally I'd run it as a regular encounter with lots of support in the form of Mobs (like swarms but bigger) of Soldiers.
Orthos wrote: EDIT: Nevermind, you're a player, aren't you?
There's a guy here on the forum by the name of DM_aka_Dudemeister who rewrote much of Chapter 2; in his rewrite, among other things, he added a small troll army attack midway through the chapter, and had Hargulka's lair guarded by a pair of such armies.
I was going to say "go look up his thread", but if you're a player don't do so, as it's full of spoilers.
That would've probably been more climatic than ours was. I think we cast haste (twice eventually) and we all but trampled over everything in their and fought the Boss Troll (with on the fly "spite" buffs).
@Cintra Bristol The fight seemed too efficient on our part only one of us took damage. Mostly because the opposing armies attacked the larger group for 2 turns and after that we had them so far gone it didn't matter.
@Jenner2057 There was an army of Trolls and an army of Wyverns at the city. We caught the barbarian horde army in our territory and our fighter assumed control by beating the Barbarian Leader and we purchased the Catspaw group. Was there supposed to be more?
@Orthos Was there a chance for mass combat in book 2? The only Trolls I remember from around there was random encounters and Fort that had a 2 headed troll running the show (I think).
Wow... *sigh* indeed. You appear to be working under the assumption we're stupid. If you're thinking we used our character sheets vs Army stat blocks you are misunderstanding.
My character was something along the lines of
ACR 4 (I think)
Offensive Modifier: +12
Damage Modifier: 0
Defenseive Value: 20
Movement: 2
HP: 18
Boon/tactic: Bloody but unbroken
The cleric was almost identical, And the Bard had Lower OM & DV (by ~2) but something like 28 HP.
So with this clarification what is your opinion.
I'm pretty sure we didn't need the fighter army... It was over so fast it feels like we cheated.
We used Herolab to calculate our Armies
Synth Summoner 13
Archeologist Bard/DD 9/4
Cleric 13
Unbreakable Fighter 13 (Running the Army)
Has anybody else went the multi 1 man army route?
1st round: Staggered & Constitution Check DC 10(+1 ea. successful save(Medicine resets DC and ends effect)) or be stunned.
Each round of stunned: Constitution Check continued from above or go unconcious (0 hp).
Each round of unconcious: Constitution Check continued from above or begin Dying (-1 hp).
Each round of Dying: Constitution Check continued from above or DEAD!
Bonus: DR 5/- for Nonlethal damage and +4 bonus to saves vs Pain (possibly including the sugar sickness saves) effects.
I personally do not know but I'd like to point you towards the Reign of Winter Player's Guide. They are free downloads at Paizo and have alot of useful spoiler free info in them for the players.
