Wiscara is nervous as she approaches the wild cat. She holds her hands out to it palms facing upward showing she is non-agressive and speaks a quick Druidic phrase enabling her to Speak with Animals for 1 minute.
She then speaks the word the Maetaur had given her for this exact purpose. It slides off her tongue and seems to echo between her and the animal. The cat opens its jaws and growls in return, the two voices mixing together and combining, hers seeming to lead with her companions voice complimenting and aiding, the sound of their magical conversation suddenly stops and Wiscara knows the animal had accepted her request. She steps forward closer and kneels in front of it. "My name is Wiscara, Druid of the Woodbridge Lake." She holds her right hand up to the young cats shoulder.
might need a little help statting out my AC here. Large car or small?
Since it was killed in my backstory, I was going to have her find it's cub that was unfortunately left behind and Wiscara can tell because the eyes are the same, or something.
Wiscara wakes in her bed trying to recall the dream she had been having. A green worm wrapping itself around my legs and the forest on fire. Then a field of flowers, I was searching for something I lost. Then the flowers melted into thorns... or was it ants? She shakes her head, sure that it was all nonsense and gets out of bed. She finds her mother meditating and sits down next to her to begin her own session. "You must prepare youself Cara," her mother says without opening her eyes, "perhaps today you will find your companion. Perhaps not. I will help you be able to know how and be sure in your choice." For the next hour Wiscara is guided in preparing herself and shaping the flowing energy she is able to touch, though with much effort and little skill. She prepares herself for the task of finding her animal companion.
Prepared Spells (Added in profile) Orisons: Create Water, Guidance, Know Direction. 1st Level: Call Animal, Speak with Animals.
Strapping on her wooden armour and hoisting her pack, she slides her dagger into a sheath against her right hip before leaving the house. Her mother gives her a hug and her blessing and watches until she has disappeared into the trees. Wiscara also takes her spear with her, using it as a walking stick for now. I have already made my decision but I don't know where to find you... Survival(Weather for today?):1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13well what's the fun in always taking 10 :P She casts Know Direction. She will head where she knows or thinks the wild cat that attacked her many years ago came from to find her companion. Not sure how long it will take so I will wait a few posts before posting more.
Wiscara opens her eyes wide and smiles as everyone moves closer to congratulate her. It is the most attention she has ever had before in her life and she feels awkward, but happy to be accepted as one of them. Tears of her own show when she embraces Cicily, she hopes she will grow much closer to Cicily as well as all of them.....
to be continued... sorry out of time today
Wiscara joins in the fun and does her best to keep her mind off the events of the previous days. The celebration was one of her favorite times of the year. One of her favorite things to do was dance and she makes great effort to encourage everyone to join in, especially the Maetaur people. She tries to dance with everyone she knows at least once. Taking small breaks to eat and drink and talk in between dances she asks Rosilindea if it were possible for her to learn the Gymnaga dance, "If it can be done by those with legs," she says with a laugh indicating how complicated it looked. She watches the boxing match for a short time but grows bored and spends most of the rest of the time with Elizabeth, making sure her friend is ok and checking on the status of Roan. She does her best to make Elizabeth smile, making her dance and have some fun. "You look absolutely beautiful in that dress, mine is so plain in comparison. Everyone will be staring at you," she smiles.
When the Maetaur tell her it is time for the ceremony she excuses herself suddenly looking very serious, "Blessing to you all for another prosperous year," and then she is gone.
Wiscara stays loosely with the others but doesn't speak to the men, not too interested in meeting more soldiers, instead she tries to get to Wuda, "What's wrong with the big man? He looks sick. His face I mean, it looks off colour."
Standing up from the table and grabbing her pack, Wiscara says to everyone in the room, "After the festival tonight, anyone here who would like to should feel free to come to my ceremony at the Gymnaga settlement." She looks at each of them while she talks to let them know everyone in the room is included if they so wish.
Stepping outside she sees Wuda has arrived and runs to her. The woman was almost like a second mother sometimes. When she sees the two men with her she halts and studies them.
Sense Motive:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Wuda would be here for several days likely but it was almost the best things that were sold first. She looked around for the others that were going to see Rosilindea. She herself possessed no coins or anything to trade for the moment. Likely Wuda would ask her to do a couple of errands for her around the village later.
Peddlers and the like would sell heaps of stuff like that as far as im concerned. I have no problems with Wuda's inventory. SOME people would make soap, who is skilled with wool? I don't know but just because one in the village can do something doesn't mean they have a monopoly either. I thought of it like there are a number of things that woodbridge they produce and some things that they trade for.
"I would like to meet your people properly Poseus," she says with a smile. They fascinated her slightly, "and I love swimming, though I can't say I'm very good, or as quick as you would be. Would you care to tell me some more about your kind on the way?" She wasn't sure why but she suddenly wanted to know more about the world and it had started yesterday as far as she could tell. Everything she didn't know about things seemed an obstacle to be removed. She was young and knew very little. But she wanted to know everything she could to help her understand the world and help it.
Wiscara nods as the others speak. She already decided where she would go but had not spoken yet. When another opening to speak occured she took the chance, "I will be going with you Phineas," she said to him, "and I will stay here and help look into the swamp incursion. As much as I would like to go to Castletown. Parhaps next time." she said and added a smile at the end.
Wiscara had sat silently and listened out of respect for the older women. She had leaned forward to get a closer look at the skull, almost reaching for it but pulling her hand back. A trip to Castletown would be exciting, Wiscara would like to get a look at the soldiers that Patricia disliked and their huge Castle. Then she remembered the ceremony this afternoon. She wouldn't miss that even for a Castle. Besides... she would be more useful going to the Gymnaga.
Her mothers words echoed through Cara's mind as she walked back to the village. She felt excited about the ceremony, to be recognized by the Maetaur as a fellow druid was what she wanted. But what her mother said also made sense, no one could make her become a druid by saing a few words. She had to make that decision herself and she now realized that she had already done that. She let out a small laugh, even if there were terrible things out there, Cara would put a stop to their disturbance of nature.
As she walked down the street towards the Bread and Board, people were going about their day happily and with little care. Cara greeted those she passed and received greetings in return.
She entered the Bread and Board and looked for the others she was meant to meet. Seeing several of them together, she walks over and finds a seat, sliding her pack under her seat. "Sorry if I'm late."
That night before falling asleep exhausted once more Wiscara tells her mother about the battle and everything after finding Roan missing. "Then after we rescued him, the Fulogh’Mogobbh caught upto us because we were slowed carrying Roan. I heard, or felt something I've never felt before. I called out to it for help and the next thing the creatures emerged from the bog and raced towards us," Wiscara's voice strained as if she was there again, [/b]"and the ground, or rather the plants and the grass twisted around the tentacles and bodies of them, holding them in place for a time."[/b] She is clearly in wonder at the fact that she may have caused it. Perhaps the effects of seeing the open use of magic just prior, the magical light. But she had been around such before. Maybe she did not need a ceremony to ask the gods for their favour. These thoughts all occured to Wiscara that night. "And then we ran when the Fulogh Barghnora? When it came for us. Thankfully it was slowed on land or we might not have all made it back..." Such somber thoughts caused her to become silent for a while. She had thought about death before, but today she had been terribly scared when the Fulogh Barghnora had screamed at her. She shook her head and thought of tomorrow instead. "Will we still have the ceremony tomorrow?" Soon enough she fell asleep, glad to be safe another night. But her dreams weren't safe, they were filled with grotesque nightmares of the Fulogh Barghnora as big as a mountain, screaming and chasing after her wherever she went...
In the morning she woke early as always, unable to sleep past sunrise, her body waking her like clockwork at the first early morning light that could reach them. Pushing off the ridiculous dreams of the night she stretched and yawned. Her mother was already meditating so she joined her. After completing the usual exercises of emptying her mind and feeling the peace and freedom of such that she was accustomed to, she felt something new. .
"Yes mother I am unhurt," Wiscara answers, "just tired. Something happened when we were fighting. I need to talk to you about it later. I tried to bandage the worst of Roan's injuries. " she explained to her mother. She is glad when she gives Roan some of her healing magic. He would be fine in no time she was sure.
When Henri and Dieredon discuss the monsters and her name is mentioned, she takes notice of their conversation. She had only studied if for a second or two, any of them could have done the same... "The small ones are top half goblin, bottom half octopus. They seem to 'worship' or revere a giant octopus like creature," she looks around before lowering her voice and continuing, "They meant to feed Roan to it."
Cara keeps looking back as they run, almost tripping over several times before focusing on the ground ahead instead of behind. She lost count of how many times she had run today but it seemed each time became more urgent and dangerous...
Seeing the light and the people, Cara slowed down and stopped to try catching her breath. Seeing her mother she ran to her, ignoring everyone else and they held each other for a long time. When she had caught her breath enough she asked, "How did everyone know how to find us?"
[dice=Knowledge(Nature) on BBEG] 1d20+7]
As the monster comes charging out of the water into view Wiscara freezes. It was the largest thing she had ever seen and it terrified her. As it was caught momentarily by the plants and vines she thought it would give them enough time to escape but the next instant it ripped free as if only held by paper. That thing could crush any of them in one blow she was sure. The only option now was to run.
She clamped her hands to her ears as the thing let out a tremendous bellow that rattled every part of her. As the squid-goblins run into the forest after the horn sounds she knew they must do the same. Though she felt like just running until she was safe, thoughts of the others with her filled her mind and pushed away the fear. Help me get my friends away from here. She looked to Phineas who was lifting Roan. She knew he would slow them down but perhaps she could help, she wasn't sure how she could but she ran over to Phineas and helped him lift Roan onto his shoulders, muttering several words in a strange language. She feels another presence leave her as she does so and feels like something changed but does not know what. "We have to run!" she yells at everyone and no one, while looking back at the beast.
Move action to go to Roan/Phineas.
Standard action to cast Ant Haul.
Wiscara has unwittingly casted Ant Haul on Phineas. All level 1 spells gone. Hopefully you aren't slowed down now, you can carry three times your usual encumbrance for two hours, does not affect any armour penalties from wearing armour. Perhaps you know what's happened (divine spells and all) but maybe not.
MA: move upto enemy next to Dieredon.
SA:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
FA: 5ft. step back.
Wiscara steps up next to Dieredon and stabs the spear forward towards the nearest enemy, missing completely. She takes a couple steps back, looking around trying to gather what was happening. She looks back to Roan, making sure he was still there and ok, Remembering they needed to get him back soon. Real soon.
Move action to next fallen enemy. Move action to pick up another spear.
Forgetting the missed spear throw, Wiscara instantly looks around for another one, nearby Dieredon she saw another and dashed to pick it up and point it at the approaching enemies.
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Damage:1d6 ⇒ 5
Wiscara hastily throws the borrowed spear at the creatures. Without checking to make sure she hit she picks up the second dropped spear from the other enemy Dieredon downed.
Cara stands by Roan watching the monsters emerge, dagger in hand. She is about to enter and attack when she hears some familiar voices. "Help! There are too many. We're being surrounded." With light surrounding the area she sees just how many there are and it brings up her memories of the past. Again others are coming to her rescue.
Turning back to the fight, she had to do more to help. Noticing the fallen creatures she moves up to the first Dieredon had felled and picks up it's spear and prepares to throw at the entangled ones.
Cara quickly tries to bandage up the worst of Roan's injuries praying to the mother for help the entire time. She had never prayed so desperately in her life. She kept working, the sounds of the creatures chasing them coming closer and closer. When she thought they would almost be on them she stood up at the same moment Dieredon called out. While standing up she felt a voice inside her head that seemed to be saying to her 'I will help you, but you must always promise to help me in exchange'
"I promise!" she called out in a hurry and instantly felt, something fill her chest, arms and legs. Just as she saw the creatures exit the bog she raised her arm and whispered in druidic, 'stop.' she did not know how, but she felt she was able to impede the creatures in some way.
hope that's an appropriate way to cast entangle. Want it to cover all of them if possible. Hope it doesn't affect Dieredon...
Entangle DC 15 reflex save or be entangled.
I'll act last out of us 4.
Cara follows Dieredon, constantly looking back at the cottage on the island. She hoped she never got a first hand look at the creature they had painted on the wall. "I still need to stop his bleeding," she whispers to Dieredon, "That will take several minutes but I don't want to wait too long." She warns them both of Roan's condition. She was slightly proud that she had managed to stabilise him. The lessons from mother and Cicily had definitely payed off today. She kept by Dieredon's side with a hand on Roan to calm him, hoping he remained quiet.
Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Cara winces at the disturbance she creates and continually watches the cottage, hoping she wasn't noticed. "sorry..." she whispered and followed Dieredon over to Roan. Thankfully he was still alive. She glances around for enormous monsters from the bog to jump out at her, heart pumping. While Dieredon tries to free him she retrieves her waterskin and a small cloth. She wets it and wipes some over his face. "Roan. Keep quiet ok, we'll help get you out of here," she whispers, holding a finger to her lips, "Drink this," she says as she holds the waterskin up to his mouth and aids him in taking a mouthful.
Heal (first aid):1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Heal (diagnose condition/how badly hurt/poison?):1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
...and the water. Cold. It sent shivers up her legs. Her foot caught a hole making her stumble, almost falling over but catching herself just in time. Hopefully the monsters weren't paying too much attention.
Sense Motive (what do they intend to do with him I guess):1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
As she gasped then clamped her mouth shut with her left hand, she couldn't take her eyes from the creatures. What they were doing was unbelievably cruel, the wounds that caused the blood on the trail she now concludes they were done by these creatures in surprising Roan and not by Elizabeths' punch. Four of them, four of us, this could be dangerous. Stick with Dieredon and Chance.
Stealth:1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 1 = 2 oh dear lol
Cara nods to Dieredon and follows him carefully, taking her knife from its sheath. She was certainly no good at being stealthy. Every dead branch seemed to get in her way and crunch underneath her feet.
"Hurry Elizabeth. Roan!" Hoping that her warning would bring a more prepared force to deal with the bog creatures, she wasn't really sure how big a threat such an incursion would be. The three of them, Dieredon, Chance and Cara may be able to rescue Roan in time however. Four. Welkin makes four if he is trained like Chance says he is.
"Stay with me," she says and takes off running back towards where she left Dieredon, glancing back to make sure Chance and Welkin were keeping up with her. Navigating through the brush they were soon at the tree. She paused for a quick breath, for her sake as much as the others. "This way, not too far." She began running again, following her remembrance of the trail. Soon they reached the edge of the bog where she had last left Dieredon. She doesn't see him straight away...
Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
...but looking around and noticing a slight disturbance in some long grass she moved towards it slowly, motioning for Chance to be as quiet as possible. The shades of his clothes differing from the grass, marking Dieredon out. They crept towards him, "Have you seen anything?" she whispers to him.
For the second time today Wiscara runs with everything she has got towards the bridge where she knew they were headed. Today had been more eventful than any for a long time. She hadn't been in the bogs before, she wondered if Dieredon had. If there were now a group of Fulogh’Mogobbh in there now...
There they are, good timing Cara
Chance
Dodging a couple sheep, she calls out when she is in earshot, "Chance! We found a hut on the bog, the tracks led us right to it. Dieredon wants you and Welkin to help." She stops in front of them and catches her breath a little, her hands on her hips. "Elizabeth, let Cicily and Dominic know that some Fulogh'Mogobbh are in the bogs, tell them I recognized the track and where to find the trail if anyone decides they want to help."
Realizing what beasts had passed this way, Wiscara gasped. This was not good. She hurried tp catch up to Dieredon and warn him. Stopping him from going into the bog she put her hand on his shoulder. "Careful, the bog is full of these creatures. The have tentacles for legs and are ferocious and evil," she looked worried.
After his suggestion she agrees, "Please be careful, they could easily overwelm you, but I fear Roan has little time, I will hurry."
+4 wis
+3 class
+1 rank
+2 nature sense
+2 Aspect of the beast
Something I just realised... while seeing I hadn't properly added aspect of the beast to my sheet here, I noticed you need wild shape as a prereq... so I think I need to swap that one out. Another feat I was considering before AotB was self-sufficient. So perhaps I'll swap it with that?
Unfortunately Elizabeth was most likely right. She didn't realise Roan had been hurt this bad, how did Elizabeth knock him out so well. "The blood is human," she looks at Dieredon and says, "pretty sure it is Roan." she studies the track further closer, hoping to find out what may have dragged Roan away, she is sure it is him now.
Knowledge(nature):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Just, a moment," she says quietly to Dieredon while studying the tracks. Her mother and the Maetaur had taught her this skill and she had learned quickly. How to tell how old a track was by the bent grass and disturbed stones. Any regular patterns in an irregular environment were the first things to look for. Dieredon was skilled in this also so she knew they would be able to find him, hopefully in time.
"What is it Liz?" Cara asks as Elizabeth runs over to the oak. Something they were looking at on the ground seemed to bother them. She decided to take a look and started walking over to them as Chance comes towards her. Ignoring his compliment, she is about to ask what has happened when he asks her almost the same thing. "We didn't see anything. What sort of incident? " she asks.
Walking over to the oak and seeing the blood for herself , she instantly thinks of the lion tracks. But they were hours old and this must be relatively fresh... She kneels down, getting a closer look at the blood to see if she can identify the type of creature it came from.
Knowledge(nature):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Realising it was dragged away from the blood she follows with her eyes the other blood stains trailing away from it until she sees Dieredon not too far ahead already trying to follow it. She stands up and walks over to him to try to help.
Aid Dieredon:
Aiding Dieredon on his survival. I have a +12 so that's an automatic successful aid for +2 on his roll to push it to 20. Could make my own roll but Cara isn't like that and would try helping first anyway. Plus I doubt the dc is that high that I would need to lol.
Cara just listened as Elizabeth recounted her afternoon with the flock and Roan. She was at the marriageable age and amazingly pretty beyond any girl Cara had seen. Far prettier than she could ever be. Wiscara thought herself pretty average. Nothing really special. Her mother always told her how beautiful she thought she was but she was old enough to realize that all mothers would say that no matter what. Probably all the boys liked Elizabeth. She felt she was too, wild looking.
Roan was quite handsome she would admit, but she didn't like him like Elizabeth did. She was unsure what advice she could offer to her older friend. When she heard what Roan did she was reminded of that day several years ago, when a man, probably close to Roan's age had come through the woods all on his own, asking for food. He had decided he liked Cara and attacked her trying to take advantage of her. She didn't understand at the time until later when her mother explained such things to her.
She remembered how she felt though. Unlike Elizabeth who had at first felt great at hitting Roan, she had been terrified when he grabbed her arm. Completely panicking, struggling and trying to resist which angered him further. In her frenzy she had grabbed the first thing closest to her, a spear. Unable to think, acting on instinct she blocked his dagger at the same time her spear found his heart. She had never told anyone about it except her mother.
"I haven't ever kissed anyone. If you want me to I promise not to tell anyone, I would never tell your secrets Liz," she put her hands to her lips momentarily to show they were closed, "are you going to tell your mother what he did? I bet he was surprised you could hit him so hard," she giggled slightly before returning to all seriousness, "Let's make a deal. If you need someone to tell things to about men or other things, I'll always be waiting to listen," she smiles at Elizabeth, seeing the edge of the flock not too far off, "and I'll tell you if one starts bothering me, though I doubt that is likely. And besides, I'm too young, I don't really like any guys, though maybe I think a couple are kinda handsome. I hope Roan will learn his lesson for you, if you really do like him."
She stayed with her friend, chatting about girly things and watching the flock together for about half an hour before she remembers the scissors. "Oh Lizzie I have to go. Mother will be expecting me back now, I'm supposed to be helping her and I need to do a few other things for my ceremony. Will you come? I want you to be there for it. It would mean a lot to me."
Seeing her friend in tears Cara runs instantly to stand in front of her and embrace her, letting her know whatever happened she would help her fix it or figure it out. Elizabeth was like a big sister to Cara and it seemed strange for her to be needing help for once. Cara remembered it was usually Elizabeth that gave her advice. She would be glad if somehow she could repay the favour in any way.
She breaks off the hug as Elizabeth speaks and crouches down next to her, hand on her knee. "What's ruined? I'm sure we can fix it Liz, but first..." She stands up and straightens again as Elizabeth remembers her job. She smiles back and takes her hand in her left one. "Yes of course we can talk. I don't have anything I need to do except return scissors to mother after Marcus sharpens them for us. The reason I saw you is because I was bringing Cicily back to the O'lehig's. Mrs O'lehig has gotten sick I think. It might be bad, the Father is there, they were calling for Auria too when I was told to fetch Cicily and Dominic. But when I saw you I couldn't let you stay out here all alone. It's not always the best to be alone out here." She thinks about the lion tracks, hoping it wasn't still in the area but says nothing about it, not wanting to worry Elizabeth who clearly has a lot on her mind already. The walk away back towards the flock, hand in hand.
