OK, first things first: sincere apologies for lack of posts.

Good news: I got a promotion. Bad news: I now have a metric ****-ton of extra work to do, plus travel.

I’m still around, but I won’t be able to post once a day. We’re looking like – at best – every other day. If I am holding stuff up please just bot me and I’ll do my best to catch up.

Huh? Wait, I know cyclops. I've fought against cyclops. Cyclops were enemies of mine. Senator, you're no cyclops.

(What? Somebody had to...)

Vosil draws the bow back to its fullest extent before firing, and then again, and then again, trying to end this fight swiftly.

Composite Longbow, Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 20

Composite Longbow, Rapid Shot 2: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 25

(Using one Stamina Point to turn that into a 26, which hits)
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 10

Composite Longbow, Hasted attack: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 9

6 Stamina Points remaining

Unfortunately, only one of his shots hits; and that only due to a lifetime's guile and experience in being able to make the most of any opportunity a foe provides.

Between the nettle poisoning and the unsettling effects of the surroundings, the situation is tactically sub-optimal. Still, you don't always get to pick and choose your fights. Vosil draws his bow and opens fire on the orbs, moving to put himself between them and the more squishy members of the party.

Move action to get into position

Standard Action

Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 16 (Includes Sickened, Point Blank Shot and Haste)

Will save: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21

Don't forget that the sickened condition gives you a -2 penalty on dice rolls, including saving throws

Vosil brightens up slightly: eldritch horrors and blasphemous carvings are something that a Lore Warden learns to deal with. "I cannot help but think we might be better off returning here with a priest. And some cleansing fire, of course."

HP 53/53 | AC 20 (22 w/C.E.) [T 15 FF 15] | CMB +7 | CMD 22 | Fort +7 Ref +7 Will +3 | Init +5 | Percep +0 | Stamina 7/7 | Active conditions: None Kingdom Spreadsheet | Turn Summary

Fort save 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Fort save 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Light armour doesn't protect against thorns and stinging plants; for all Vosil's experience, he has no special defence against such things. Doing his best to protect his hands from being stung, he nods warily at Talia's question when she points at the tower: Might as well.

He moves forward, bow in hand and arrow ready to fire.

Vosil nods; the wizard has the right of it. Focus on the leader and then hopefully Talia can negotiate with the survivors.

Ignoring the lizard that directly threatens him, he aims at the lizard king.

Full-Round Action, with Haste

Composite Longbow, Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 20
(Using 2 Stamina points to turn that into a 22; 5 Stamina points remaining)

Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 10

Composite Longbow, Rapid Shot 2: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 28

Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 12

Composite Longbow, Hasted attack: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 29

Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 10

Provokes an AoO from the lizard next to Vosil; AC with Haste is 21

Hm - I would say boy plus non-aggression pact in return for regular meat shipments; with the understanding that if they break the agreement, not only does the food supply stop but we return and burn their village to the ground. I don't see how that encourages bad behaviour in future. Quite the reverse, assuming they take it seriously.

And if they don't take it seriously, well... I believe 'nuke the site from orbit' was mentioned?

More seriously, this diplomancy thing has to be a 2-way street: if we're offering them meat, we need something in return. That child we heard crying would be a good start, as would a promise not to eat any other sentients. If they can't commit to that, we may have to eradicate them.

We can't have neighbours who regard our citizens as food. I don't see any way that works.

I agree with OGGM in going first for a simple, short scenario. This will allow us to playtest both the rules and the characters we've developed. Then maybe try out something longer after that, like Tempest Fury?

Agree with Talia though that anyone who creates a character they really like should have the option of keeping hold of them. Maybe if we're doing a longer scenario that involves some levelling-up, people can decide at each new level whether they want to stick with what they've come up with or introduce a new character.

We haven't really done anything with this. Dead on the vine? Or just a pause?

Update: my desktop computer died messily recently. Doesn't affect my posting, as I can do that from my phone, but it does affect everything else as I can't run a game from my mobile, or read any of the pdfs (I don't have hard copies of the AP books).

Hoping to rebuild the thing this weekend. If successful, I will open up a Dead Suns game in the next week or so with a view to starting in mid December. If not...

EDIT: and I agree with Talia. Meteor swarm the place from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Aware that he doesn't have much to contribute at this point, Vosil stands ready to take action should need arise.

Gav's report of a child crying (although he can't hear it) makes him deeply uneasy about talking for much longer without investigating. He does his best to convey his unease to Talia, with a look.

Vosil does his best to look imposing, but it's hard to do when your teeth are chattering. He frowns, slightly - he never used to feel the cold. He must be getting old. Or pampered with this good living. Or both.

He keeps his hands free; it would be the work of a moment to draw his bow and send death speeding towards any enemies. He waits for Talia's signal and does his best to keep his eyes and ears open for trouble.

While the activity is going on around him, Vosil spends time in one of his favoured activities: reading. With the help of one of his Pathfinder Chronicles, he endeavours to glean what information he can from his view of the lizardman encampment: roughly how many people it might contain, how many of those are likely to be capable fighters, that sort of thing.

He also tries to work out whether any rumours about this particular village have made their way to him, only to be lost in other notes about other, more urgent things.

Only dwarves truly understand irony. Ask them, and they'll tell you: it means 'sort of like iron.'

Vosil nods. "'Tis Draconic, the language of dragonkind; although judging by its accent, it has never actually heard it spoken by one of the Ancient Ones." Nor has Vosil, but that's not going to prevent him indulging in a little editorialising (alas, nothing does).

Oh well. Time to change the subject. "I wonder if they're planning to reply to us, or just hoping that we go away. Do we have a next move if they don't respond to Talia's greetings?"

But if we avoid looking too much like potential prey, we may be able to parley with them."

On the other hand, I won't be able to start until December/January (probably open up a thread some point in November to start discussing character creation etc). Think we have a consensus to ignore this hex for the time being and move on to a8

Good stuff, and good luck!

I've likewise got a fair bit on right now, but I'll drop by and take a look at the thread to see if it sparks any creative processes...

Vosil frowns thoughtfully. "It would seem that despite the fact that Concord itself backs onto a significant body of water, we have not hitherto taken advantage of that fact to conduct any waterborne exploration."

He looks at the wizard. "Naralesh, do perchance your studies of the arcane provide any insight which might expedite our travel to that island?"

Ah. A lake. Our first ever water hex, I believe.

...

Did anyone pack a boat in their luggage? Because I'm pretty sure that swimming out to the haunted tower that's on the island in the middle of a lake is a whole bunch of tropes we don't want to invoke.

Yay for resource hexes!

Also: Westward ho! Onto A8 (I think, assuming this was B8)

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Knowledge nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Combat over. The new Vosil hits like a ton of bricks - love the fighter-archer build.

Heh. Yeah, Combat Stamina + Weapon Specialisation = Favoured Enemy: everyone.

There's an Old Ustalavic word for deriving satisfaction from the misfortune of others. Vosil can't quite recall it right now, but it's on the tip of his tongue.

It tastes sweet, like honey. "Never let it be said that Gav refuses to get his hands dirty. Also, the rest of him."

He looks quizzically at the Scoundrel of the Greenbelt as he pulls himself out of the mud cauldron: "I don't suppose you spotted any black rattlecap mushrooms while you were down there...?"
