About Vidar Fletcher

Appearance
6’3”, 215lbs, 22 years old, pale skin, slight burn scars on bottoms of feet, long black hair, dark blue eyes.

Background
A devout follower of Erastil, it is said that as an orphan Vidar was led from the woods by the Grim White Stag at the age of 4 with no memory of his natural family. He was raised just outside of the city of Bellis in Andoran.

He was called to be a paladin of Erastil after serving with another under the Banner of the Stag when he was 15. He was called to adventure by dreams of the White Stag, who reminded him that his foster family was but one aspect of the world. He feels compelled to try to unite a larger group under the protection of a similar Order as the Banner of the Stag, but knows that he is too green and unseasoned to be the leader that such an organization would need.

In addition to the general paladin Code he follows as a worshipper of Erastil, Vidar was influenced heavily by his experiences fighting under the Banner of the Stag and of the Andoran principles of his home city, Bellis. He is also a drunken philosopher on occasion, who has a tendency to write down his drunken thoughts and meditate upon them upon reaching sobriety. The fact that his family is not a traditional one also helps to focus his belief that not every philosophy and code is appropriate for all peoples:

• I am young and hopeful, but know that others have had vastly different experiences which have shaped them as I will. All young things grow and change and I will temper my impatient thoughts of future and family with the realization that who I am now will not be who I am in 10 years.

• My oaths are my strength, not my weakness. I shall probe them and test them, but shall not permit others to use them against me. Honesty is a bulwark, but only a fool speaks where silence serves best.

• Not all may contribute the same, but all may contribute in some ways. It is my duty and responsibility to recognize the difference between those who refuse to contribute and those who cannot see how they can contribute to the community. Those who seek to do more and know not how can be shown ; those who seek to undermine community must be stopped.

• Even gods make mistakes. I should be neither mournful, nor angry when mere mortals such as myself do the same, save only to assist in learning the proper lesson from the mistake. Victory teaches little, but in loss wisdom may be gained.

• The importance of reputation is not gossip, but in leadership – if a people cannot trust their leaders, how then can they allow themselves to be led? Without leadership, there is no community; without community, there is only savagery.
