Vestad ponders the situation with the cleric, "I think the father is due his peace. He knows something, of that I am sure. But he cares a great deal for this town and I feel he would have disclosed anything especially important. I would investigate some other way until we have better questions than simply snooping through his affairs. Plus with five goblin tribes, we may be plenty busy soon enough."

Vestad considers the young lady's question for a moment. "I suppose the best way to track them may be to discover what supplies they might need. Were I to be in the business of slaying undead, I would stockpile silver for holy water. I must admit I am not sure what is used to raise the walking dead, but it may be useful to discover. Alternatively they may merely be seeking information. I do not believe those spells requires any particular object."

"I must admit that many consider me forward, it is a useful trait in missionaries and less useful among social guests. Would it be rude to ask an elderly member of the community if they remember this man. Perhaps a member of one of the longer-lived races would be even better. Five years is not so long ago, but perhaps they would know more of his life and family.

Vestad looks the fighter over and intones another prayer. "The lady's blessings upon you. As his wounds mend and the cathedral clears, Vestad asks the figher, "Shall we return to the inn? A meal would be most welcome an the mayor said she wished to meet us there." Heal Ash 9hp

"The doctrines of my faith bid me heal first, as the suns rays warm the air before its radiance becomes visible over the horizon." Vestad unleashes two waves of healing energy over the assembled crowd. Thin, cool flames pour off of him, writhing around the assembled masses. His eyes shift from dark brown to radiant gold. I pray what little aid I can offer warms your hearts. My great-grandfather brought his faith across the desert, an upright man and brave. I am the lesser son of a lesser son, yet the Everlight shines even through me. Vestad tells Sarenrae's creation myth. He lifts his left sleeve, a patch of black covers his lower arm. "In the beginning, all was darkness for Asmodeus ruled over the lands and the hearts of men." Across his upper arm is a small flame which illuminates a dark room. "But the Dawnflower brought light. She opened the heavens, binding shadows to dank corners and evil's hiding places." Vestad pulls up his right sleeve, "For the light brings truth and with it power. Kelesh script winds around his whole right arm. "Today darkness crept into our fair town. Darkness took good men today. But today also we see light. We saw hope, like the first rays of the morning sun speaking of good things to come. And we saw courage, like the mid-day sun which burns away the chill of darkness." 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3

As the crowd comes closer Vestad speaks up over the crowd. "If you are injured come close please. I bring the blessed healing of Sarenrae." Turning to Father Zantus, "if you would like to aid me, please feel free." Vestad begins a short prayer of healing, knitting together broken wounds with wisps of cool, translucent flame. "It would be cruel to kill the sleeping goblins. They have no weapons and cannot defend themselves. Moreover we may be able to gather useful information from them before they hang." Vestad drops his sword and grabs his shield in two hands. Nonetheless letting them awaken would be foolish. Vestad drives the shield into the goblins head. Subdual attack trying to knock it out.

Vestad draws his thin curved blade and once again calls the power of fire, a single mote swirls around his head. "Surrender creature or be cleansed by fire." If it doesn't surrender, I toss more fire at it. Actions: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 touch ac 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire damage Move: draw scimitar

Vestad calls upon the power of Sarenrae and intones a quick prayer. Motes of fire spin over his head. As the final word of the prayer releases them, two motes streak through the air at the goblins. Vestad Karn watches the little copper dragon flit around the room enjoying its drink. He introduces himself with a slight bow. "Greetings esteemed one. I do not mean to be rude, but I have always desired to meet a copper dragon. My great grandfather befriended a copper wyrm and the stories have been passed down to me. I fear most have changed over time to serve as morality tales, but each describes the great creature as the most cunning and witty being to have ever taken a mortal form. It is said that his riddles were such that wise men grew mad trying to answering them, but that children spoke the correct answer." With a blush, Vestad bows again. "I forget myself. I am Vestad Karn, humble missionary of Sarenrae."
Vestad Karn sits up as the first singer begins. He didn't recognize the language, but it sounded old and he appreciates old things. Old things have a certain sturdieness. When the second singer begins he nods slowly in rhythm with the rune. This song too sound old, but also haunting. He waits for the singer to finish before introducing himself. He stands, smooths his fiery colored robes and plaited beard. Underneath his collar is a vivid red star. The Dawnflower is tattooed over and aroud it. With a low bow he introduces himself. "Greetings Lady Faunra. That was a most beautiful song. A most pleasant dedication to those of us who do not call this place home. I would not disturb you from your work, but would you tell me the name of that song?"
Still working out a couple backstory thoughts, but the basic stats are there and the answers to your questions are here: 1. Why are you in Sandpoint? Are you a local or a visitor to the city? Vestad is a fourth generation cleric of Sarenrae. His great grandfather carried copies of the "Birth of Light and Truth" from the Empire of Kelesh to Cheliax. His sons created small temples there. Vestad's father was sent to Varisia (he travels the countryside tending to poor, rurual people) and Vestad has travelled to Sandpoint in the hopes of establishing a following there. Vestad has traveled much of Varisia and considers it his home. That said he also considers himself a citizen of the Empire of Kelesh, though he has never seen this homeland.
Vestad heard there is a local temple and wishes to see it and the people. Though the celebration is not dedicated to Sarenrae in particular it will be good to see if the people here are devout and if so whom they serve. 3. What will your character contribute to the group? Vestad is an able healer. He can be, but need not be, the party "face" (he might prefer being a confidant of the person who assumes that role). He can also dish out fire damage fairly well. 4. What are your plans for your character mechanically? Stay cleric. Grab a few summoning feats to cover what needs to be covered. Stick with a strong healing focus, with more buffing and less direct healing as he progresses. 5. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? Vestad considers himself duty bound to represent Sarenrae. He has never considered any option other than a humble preacher who might occasionally lend aid in a fight, but more often after it. Becoming a hero would require a change in perspective and some serious thinking about his role in life. It would require a tough conversation with his family when he breaks with the traditional way of doing things. |
