Valarie blushes when the woman mentions the difference in their upper bodies, and then bows low saying Mister Caldwell has offered me room and board, plus a small allowance, to maintain a small shrine at the castle he recently purchased. In addition to regular payments on the principal of any loan, I would be willing to pay a small interest fee and I can always offer you my services as a priestess> I know a few spells that are of use in small ceremonies, as well as a bit of battle magic, if you have a need for such a thing.

Valarie finishes her conversation with Caldwell, and approaches the three heroes as they are making plans

She looks down at the floor, and blushes

Mister Caldwell has agreed to offer me a position on his staff, once the castle is secured. He has plans for the castle, and I am happy to be allowed to serve him, but there is one thing troubling me she lifts out her shift with each hand I’ve seemed to have suddenly become much poorer than I was before I first set foot in that castle. I was hoping that you might know of someone in this village who might be able to extend a line of credit to me, so that I might purchase a new dress, and some shoes. I don’t imagine I’ll be replacing my armor and weapons any time soon, but it would be something to not have to roam around this town in just my shift

Valarie approaches the dwarven woman

Excuse me, my name is Valarie Gordaue, and I was squatting in the castle when your team rescued me from a pair of men who I believe came from Tarule. They are using this castle as a base to sell slaves to merchants of the city states, and I for one believe that they should be captured and turned over to the local authorities. I would do it myself, but I lack the resources to deal with them and their henchmen. If I might also ask a favor, please? My family was once connected to the former owners of this Castle, and it would please me greatly if I might find a way to be in the service of the new owner. I had a few moments to speak with mister Caldwell previously, when we were both captives of the slavers, but I would like to stay here, with him, under your arrangement and offer my assistance to him in whatever he needs.

I think we should escape now while we can, and hopefully avoid those insane wizards, but what do we do with him? I don't think it's right killing a defenseless orc.

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

I will gladly help you and your friends with any task that ultimately restores this castle to a place inhabited by good people, and supporting the land around it. Valarie says

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Thank you Valarie says with a bow to Wylla, and then a second bow toward Wolfgang and Isaiah. She then looks at the other cell, and frowns We should free this man, even if we don't know who he really is. We can escort him to Pawkatukit, and then your Solution Society can decide if he is telling the truth or not. I'm afraid the orcs have taken my armor and weapons, but I will do my best to keep an eye on him. If he starts any trouble I will put myself in harms way before I let him harm the rest of you.

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Valarie leans close to the bars of her cell and whispers to Wolfgang I only arrived here a few weeks ago. I came searching for the castle that once belonged to the Von Uvoullovich family. I had not heard about this man Caldwell before I met him just the other day when I was brought her. He does not seem mad, and I believe he is who he says he is. Maybe the man in your village is the imposter. Maybe he sent the other heroes to become victims of these slave traders, or to challenge the bandits who had taken over the main house. It’s all very confusing to me

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

No, the wizards, Sergei and Jorge, have the keys. The orcs take orders from them. We don't know where they are, but the orcs always go that way she points to her left and the wizards come and go from the same door you entered.

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

I am Valarie Gordaue, the woman says.

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

So are we splitting up then, and exploring this house in groups?

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Valarie does everything she can to stay close to Magnus, and when the group is ready to force the doors open, she asks

Should should I carry the light, or does someone else think there is someone better suited for that role?

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Give me a moment to prepare my spells and I will be able to create light using a simple orison taught to me by my mother. The light this spell provides is better than a torch, it cannot catch anything on fire, which I suppose is both good and bad. I can call forth one such light, placing the spell on a piece of wood, or any item you would like to carry.

Valarie says as she kneels by the sacred family altar at the north end of this small room

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Wolves? Valarie says when Ayita speaks up. I was only in the hose for a short moment, but I don't recall seeing any signs of wolves in the house. They must have gotten in there very recently

She looks at Magnus while he is matter-of-factly stating the need for good light while rolling up his gear, and answers Victor without turning toward him

I was going to start working on clearing the damaged stairs on the tower right next to the chapel here today, but I suppose I could follow you all into the house if you think you need my help?

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Yes that would be perfection Valarie says with a smile as she stretches.

When Perry mentions daylight, Valarie, says rather conversationally, between small bites Oh, its still pretty dark in the house during the day, maybe not as bad at night, but all the windows are boarded up, so the only light you get is what sneaks in between the boards. The first day I was here, hmmm, I tried to enter the house but I spotted some goblins in the hall in the distance, and quietly made my retreat.

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Welcome back friends. I am glad you are alright, Come inside

Valarie moves out of the way and you see a small temple like room beyond her.

It is fifteen feet wide and twenty five feet deep. At the far end of the room is a stone altar where several large wax candles are burning. The floor is made of wood, and to the right side of the door is a bed roll and backpack, with a few personal items laying nearby, including a suit of armor placed in the corner of the room

NPC: F Baravkovian/Human Cleric/1 | HP 8/8| AC 19 | PP 13 | S +1, D +0, C +0, I +0, W +5, Ch +6

Valarie’s head tips slightly down, and she takes a smalls step toward Perry, and then she looks up at him, and says, That sounds wonderful. Take your time. I’ll be there. And then she picks up her shield and helmet and walks toward the northeast corner of the castle wall

When she finally realizes the big man is talking about the fountain statues, she tilt her head to the side and touches her chin

I don’t know very much about the Alodoan Goddess of the Day, who I believe these statues represent, nor do I know anything about any spirit, at least I’ve not encountered any ghost where I have managed to explore. But I do know these two things that I think will help all of you. Over there, she points directly to the east, to a small stone building against the castle wall, There is another shrine here in the castle, this one is dedicated, I think, to the Alodoan God, Mundorian. Who is the God of obedience in servitude, and I understand he is commonly the patron deity of those who serve, granting them peace and good fortune in the next life. The statue is enchanted and will answer questions. I was told this by a cleric who passed this way just three days ago. However, I have not been blessed with being witness to these phenomena myself, but I believe the old cleric who told me this was telling the truth. Second, the shrine to Lady Isabelle is very special, and if a special spell is cast upon the altar in that shrine, the room becomes protected for a period of one full day, from sunrise to sunrise of the following day. No evil creature can enter the shrine while it is so protected, and because I know the spell, I have been able to sleep there safely these past days. It is a small shrine, and you are all welcome to take refuge there tonight if you want to. It will be crowded, but at least you can all sleep soundly.

I’m sorry, I don’t think I’ve met anyone named Caldwell. If you are tasked with sorting out the squatters, good luck to you. Many people have come to think this castle belongs to anyone who wanders by.

She places her shield on the ground and then rest her helmet on the shield. Valerie extends her hand to Ayita just as Perry begins adding more details to the situation, and when he mentions that there could be an opportunity to make her stay here permanent she miles.

Still shaking Ayita’s hand she looks at Perry and says

Do you really think so? I would be glad to offer my services to this Caldwell fellow. As to helping you, I believe I can, indeed. You see…

Before she can finish the big man, Magnus steps toward her and asks her a simple question followed by a revelation of his own beliefs.

She doesn't understand what the Big man is talking about, when he mentions the "Crow God", but she smiles and tries to answer his question

Religion Skill Check, DC 10+:
Haurruld is a kind god, forgiving, and patient who seeks to instill in his followers a sense of purpose, and finding ones place in the world even when that might take them out of the bonds of family and national traditions. He is Good, and tends toward the Chaotic.

Common Knowledge - Haurruld is part of a set of deities common among the people of Baravkovia. These deities (and heroic saints)often have similar counterparts in the Alodoan traditions, and in the Empire, Haurruld is called Harold, and in the traditions of the Alodoans he has a twin brother, called Harcourt, who is not openly worshipped but is revered in secret by those people who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of earthly pleasures. Though not particularly evil, Harcourt's followers can be excessively greedy and manipulative.

The girl stands tall, and addresses the elven female, I have had many close calls, yes, but the truth be told this place isn’t as dangerous as some make it out to be, why right now there are merchants and other travelers, resting in the rooms on the second floor of the manor house, there she points toward the large house in the center of the north wall, You simply need to be careful, why there are bugs, spiders, occasionally goblins, who are always dangerous, or even Kobolds who are usually more annoying than dangerous, and a wolf or two, but if you learn where the solid doors are, and don’t wander around at night, you can do just fine here. Bit, then there is my secret. I’ll tell you, if you promise not to damage the statues here, and the one in that meditation room, there she points to a small stone building on the east wall just north of the east Round tower, which is just east of the barracks room you explored and where the goblins were defeated. My ancestors made these statues possible, and I have sworn my life to protect them, and the small temple shrine in the northeast corner.

Ayita’s Insight into the young woman’s situation is keen, but she detects no malice, nor any intention to deceive. The young woman’s body language, strong eye contact, and cheerful face, seem to imply she is stout worth, honest, and brave

Hello, I am Valarie Gordaue. I saw your group come through the main gate earlier but I wasn’t sure what you were looking for. I have never seen such a large group of well armed travelers comes here before. I just moved into the temple in the northeast corner of the castle a few weeks ago. One of my ancestors was a priestess who served the family that was last to live here, and after learning of her deeds and devotion I left my home in Baravkovia and dedicated myself to keeping the temple here protected as well as I can. I’ve learned a little about this place, and I would be glad to help you if you are searching for something or someone, but,

She places her helmet on her head and then rest her left hand on the handle of her mace

If you intend to defile this place, in any way, we are going to be at odds, and that will not be a good for anyone, yes?
