Glad you think so. I like talking about character development. But...

Ok, I fixed his crunch as requested and wrote a little something else about Twitch's interest in the Starfinder Society.

I sort of 'ended' his background as he is leaving from Akiton to go to Absalom Station since I do not know where/how the campaign starts.

Let me know if you need anything else at this time to properly evaluate my submission.

Thanks again for hosting!

why is Twitch interested in the Starfinder Society:

Twitch hated to admit it, but it had been Riko that actually ruined his life. That ‘little rat’, as he lovingly called him, had soured what had been up to that moment a perfect existence. The smallest of his cousin’s third litter, that runt had actually stayed in Maro for far too long. ”All them lights must have messed with his head.”

Riko had remained behind as the caravan moved on. Nothing unusual in that as many of the young ysoki took their leave from travelling from time to time. But they always came back or latched on to the caravan as it made its way back to the city. It was a full year before they returned to Maro and by then it was too late. Young Riko’s head had been filled with nonsense: starships, new planets, travel off-world, as if travelling Akiton was not good enough. And the young one passed on this madness to Twitch who listened but not for long for he knew he was being captivated by all this nonsense.

The caravan left again without Riko but Twitch remained in contact with his young cousin who continued to spew forth this travelling fever. Until one day, Twitch actually cried as he listened to Riko’s message telling him he was going to Absalom Station. ”Madness” And that he was going to join the Starfinder Society. ”Even more madness. Why would such a prestigious organization care for a lowly ysoki from Akiton?”

But the fever had already taken hold of Twitch and he found it hard to concentrate on his day to day duties. The though of his second cousin travelling the stars conditioned everything he did, to the point where he could no longer remain idle. That was when he started working towards finding him. Even if he had to chase him through the Drift to do so.

Feedback: Twitch

Background:

Overall pretty descriptive and you have a decent writing style. That's good.

You really have no details in your story though. Basically it's just "Twitch was a really good mechanic. One day he decided to join the Starfinders." It would be good to flesh it out some more.

* Why is Twitch a "starfarer" when he has never been to the stars?
* Was there some event that made you consider the Starfinders?
* Was there some person that played a part in your life? Bad or good?

Try to give me things I can hang plot on.

Thanks for the feedback. It's not always that GMs take the time to help craft characters since they usually wait until players are selected and some don't even do it at all. This bodes well for the game. :)

Thanks for the compliment. I try to make characters that are fun to play without making them total clowns.

I can give you more info on Twitch. Let me work on some of those events tomorrow and I'll post them.

As you probaby know these PCs will take a life on their own once we start playing and I like to post 'flashbacks' detailing some of their past events to color their present outlook on current events.

Crunch:

Overall pretty good.

Not much to do here other than make the changes you pointed out.

Like I said, I am still learning the rules and my game just started their first starship fight which is a whole different animal than regular combat.

I'm looking forward to continue learning in this game.

Game on!

Hey GM,

Please consider Twitch, male ysoki mechanic (mechanic for starship role as well), for inclusion in your game.

His crunch should be finished in his alias and his fluff is spoilered below.

I'm waiting for new images to select a better 'avatar' but this one will have to do until then.

As for me, I have been RPing since the 80’s and currently GM three games on this site (two PF and one SF). I enjoy the story and character development aspect that PBPs promote.

Let me know if you have any questions/comments.

Thanks for hosting.

fluff:

BACKGROUND

Born and raised on the red sandy roads of Akiton’s wasteland deserts, Twitch never had time to set down roots anywhere. He is, however, fiercely proud of being from Akiton as he likes to remind everyone. The ysoki belonged to an extended family of ysokis that traveled the wastelands and traded with small villages, mining towns, and big cities alike (well whatever was left of the big cities).

Life just wasn’t the same now that thasteron was no longer in demand as the old timers would say. But that was over 300 years ago, and this wasteland planet is all that Twitch has ever known.

Twitch excelled from a young age at that which almost every ysoki excels at, being a mechanic. And the traveling caravan was the perfect teacher; there was plenty to do in maintaining the old hovertankers, dirt bikes, solar sailing vessels, and everything else the ysoki managed to get a hold off. It was paradise for someone driven to learn how everything works and who had an idea on how to make anything better.

Twitch was said to be able to out tinker a space goblin and that was no easy feat. There were a couple of sayings in the caravan, “If something can’t be fixed, Twitch will fix it.” And he usually did. The other saying was “If Twitch can’t fix it then throw it out.” And that was not true as Twitch always reminded people, “If I can’t fix it now is because I don’t have the right parts but I will get them so don’t throw anything out!” And he didn’t.

DESCRIPTION

The ysoki usually wore an old flightsuit with many pockets where he had a little bit of everything (from old batteries to half-eaten crackers to tools).

Now past his prime, the ysoki’s fur was greasy in places and non-existent in others where old burn marks were present. Part of pink ear was missing and he was never too far from Big Bertha, his laser rifle that was almost as long as he was tall.

Part of Twitch’s secret were two things. One was the metal sheath that covered his left forearm. From there sprung all sorts of tools and cables as if by magic. The ysoki always had the right tool for the job. The other was partially hidden in his head, a piece of technology that had been installed from his father who inherited it from his father. This processor did everything from bringing up blueprints for any machinery to physically pinpointing the right part to replace in a hovertanker.

PERSONALITY
Twitch is constantly moving his whiskers and nose and smelling everything. He’s been told that he talks quickly but he dismisses that alleging that he has too many things to do. He has little patience and gets right to the action once a decision has been made
He’s never bored and sitting still is very much a challenge for him. He, of course, loves to take things apart and always find something to salvage.

A certain wanderlust has him staring at the stars with a certain longing. For the past three months, he has been preparing his niece to take over his job and told everyone in his family that he was leaving. It took him some time to talk to all 103 nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, etc. and he thinks that one of his sister gave birth again before he was through.

With his mind made up, he booked passage for Absalom Station to seek employment with the Starfinder Society.

Thanks for giving this a try.

I would try to talk you out of it if the issue was the two players not 'playing nice'. This is easily fixed. It really is.

However, I think you have other reasons for not wanting to continue which you explain in your post.

Anyhow, thanks and happy gaming.

Not trusting the tendon/muscle ropes, Twitch had quickly descended and stood on the ceiling of the ruined elevator. He brought Bertha and sighted down the shaft but was not quick enough to take a shot.

"What was that? Was that Tek? Did the thing kill him and somehow absorbed him?"

ON 1ST FLOOR
The ysoki shook his head at Andretta, "We can't stay here. This ... station, spaceship, whatever it is is losing atmosphere. Our time here is limited and winding down."

He looked at his companions, "We have to go up and find a way out of here. Even if it means facing that thing."

He asked, "Do we go up to the 2nd floor where the best went or to a floor above it?"assuming there are floors above the 2nd floor

Twitch only half-listened to what the other ysoki was saying. His custom metal sheathe blended in with the control panel as he tried to access the rest of the cameras in this... place.

He took one of the incendiary grenades and popped it in his mouth. He offered to the big man, "I can fix that jet pack to your armor. It won;t make you fly but you'll jump quite a bit. Good for you so you can get close to the enemy to punch them, like Trellik said."

He turned to the shirren, "What does the ring do?"

The electrical panels just called to Twitch, so much so that he ignored the items on the table.

"It's some sort of forcefield obviously meant to keep that tentacle beast inside."

He moved his whiskers, "Bad news. It's not here."

He then started to fiddle with the control panels to see if he could discern how to make it work again or make something useful out of it.

Seeing that nothing seemed to want to eat the big man, the ysoki slung his rifle behind him and took hold of the tendon-like rope.

Repressing a shudder of disgust, he started to climb down...

The tendon seemed to contract and the ysoki involuntarily let go falling the rest of the way, "Ah, shit..."

I also appreciate the ammo break; no need to complicate things unless it's for story purposes.

We have only found 'bullets' so far, right? We have not found any batteries (battery pack), which is what my laser rifle uses.

Twitch is alarmed by the information shared by Trellik.

"Abduction? So we're not in the Pact Worlds? Holy shit!"

He looked at the others, "I think this here shaft is the only way out. We could climb down to the elevator, get through the trapdoor, and see if it stuck in another floor."

He looked at the muscle/tendons like ropes and shuddered, "Yeah, I'm not going first. You think those things are alive?"

I think the fact that heal spells do NOT heal stamina damage is a very deliberate design decision. If nothing else, it makes the Envoy ability far more powerful. Personally, I wouldn't change it in a home game until I had more experience with how the existing system works

Oh I get that this was by design but I would have done it differently I think although I have little to no design experience.

It's just the it's difficult to 'narrate' stamina damage. Is is a scratch? Is it a miss?

If it's a scratch then why doesn't something that heals hitpoints heal it?

If it's miss that 'shakes you up' then why doesn't it go away? You can have stamina damage in the morning and go through a whole day of normal, peaceful activity and it won't go away.

I think the only change I would make is saying that whatever heals hit points can instead heal stamina points (player's choice) or something like that.

Twitch was glad the body-language of the dog-men was one of appreciation, despite their comrades being massacred right before their eyes.

With one eye on the opening left by the monster, he inspected the remains of the dog-men, appreciating the rifles for what they were and the organic 'rifles' s well.

"I don't even want to touch those bony things,; the other rifles are good weapons though."

He patted Big Bertha, "I already have her and I love her, but can all of you deal with foes at a distance?"

He inspected the executioners a little bit closer, "Where in the Pact Worlds are they from?"

GM, can you please summarize which rooms have been inspected so we can continue our search for answers?

Twitch followed the shirren inside the room as they saw to their temporary allies.

Depends if folks are happy with that though

I'm old school and used to play this via email (PBEM) and I always had to roll without the players seeing what I rolled (no dice rollers back then).

I found it really hard to 'lay down the pain' on my players because as I wanted them 'to win', to tell the story. Therefore, any criticals I would roll again, any failed saving throws with dire consequences, I would roll again.

Now it is so much better with dice rollers because the rolls are out in the open and if the enemies' score a critical or a PCs misses a saving throw then so be it.

I'm OK with whatever you do. I trust you are also here for the story, which may involved a PC's death.

It sounds like you'll be using 'block initiative', which is great.

One thing I would add (which you may be doing) is that once the 'baddies' go then both Group 3 (say for Round 1) and Group 1 (for Round 2) be allowed to post/act.

I think it also makes sense for you to roll initiatives for everyone at the start of the fight.

Welcome to....

Well, we're not sure where the hell we are but you're welcome to our group.

Looking over at twitch, {Often! After moving around Akiton for so long, helping various towns after disasters or raids, I finally gathered enough money to charter this flight..[pause of sadness].. I mean the Desna's song. What I would give to see the red sands right now. How long have you been off planet?}

Twitch checked his cheek pouches and found them strangely empty, "I... not long actually. I just wanted to see something other than Akiton. I took a traveling gig to Absalom Station and then boarded our ill-fated shuttle there."

He sounded sad, "I miss Akiton now."

He looked at the shirren, "So where on Akiton where you? have you heard of the Mardizzi Traveling Caravan?"

Twitch nodded in agreement as everyone seemed keen to return the weapons to the dogmen. "It makes sense. We need friends to get out of here."

The ysoki then added his own pantomime and continued to speak in the different languages he knew to see if any of them were understood by the dogmen. Twitch speaks Common, Ysoki, Akitonian, Eoxian, Kasatha, Vesk

When asked why so many languages, the ysoki responded, "I traveled a lot and met lots of people, even if all my travel was confined to Akiton."

Ok, so Loup Blanc hasn't posted in way too long, despite continuing to advance his application to another PbP at least once.

PbP can't afford that sort of drop in posting, especially at start up.

I have another player who's keen to jump in and replace Tekumsah with a character of his own. We can write him in easily enough and I'll sort out what happens to our Vesk.

I will PM loup and inform him of the decision.

I apologise if this seems draconian, but with only four players we can't afford the drop off without any form of advance notice or contact at all. If it hadn't been that he had posted once or twice in other threads in the mean time, I'd have given him more time, however I think this points to something that will be an ongoing issue.

Totally understandable and supported on my end (not that you need support). :)

You should consider making a five PC party. I have found that this is best, especially given that there will always be someone with an 'excused absence' (vacation, etc.) and the game can go on with four out of five but three out of four is a little more wobbly.

Hoping over to the gameplay thread to post...

Looking over at Twitch {You know, I don't think I have. I tend to come in and [help|clean up|provide aid] after the emergency is over. Looks like y'all have a bit more experience. I am trying to just take it as Desna's way of providing me with an adventure}

Twitch considered the question for a while, "Well, maybe traveling the red sands of Akiton with a whole bunch of ysokis tends to get you into some trouble."

He added quickly, "But it was fun. I miss my family sometimes."

"You ever think about home"

LOOT

The ysoki inspected the loot and thought of the naked dogmen in the other room.

He pocketed the two healing serums and asked, "Do you think we can trust them enough to allow them to get armed? I would feel a lot better if I cold talk to them, you know?"

I've added the two MK 1 healing Serums to my PC sheet unless I hear otherwise.

{Well, that is a [relief|happy|worry over]. I wonder if there is anything else in here. Are those strange Gnoll people's stuff in here too. Should we return it to them? They sure looked scared}

Looking around at the others going through their stuff, {I am a bit [worried|troubled|curious] about the sounds of struggle coming from the other doors. I wonder if there are more people like us stuck in there?}

Twitch was busy dressing and arming himself to be much attention to Tuk, "Let's get our stuff first. When I was working deep underground and there was a problem, they always told us to get yourself safe first and then to help others. That's what I'm doing."

He inspected his hand-held rig to make sure everything was in order.

He looked at the shirren, "You ever been in an emergency?"

The ysoki's curious nature could not be denied and he inspected the rest of the gear lying around.

PbP only works if players post daily! If you need more time, letting everyone know is important so we can work around it.

More PbP die through lack of communication than any other reason.

Cheers

True but the likelihood of that happening here is slim.

This game has a committed GM who writes well and is very interested in the game; it has an 'outline' (too many games die out because the GM goes homebrew and then runs out of ideas/energy), and it has at least a couple of players that are excited/posting.

You may have to go through a couple of players until you find the right group mix but the game will go on as long as the GM wants it to.

That said, we as players need to start posting off each others' posts. A good post should a) involve other PCs/NPCs and/or b) move the game along (hopefully both).

No more ranting. :)

Game on!

So I have been playing around with other ways for my sharrin to sound unique. Does my use of multiple words while speaking telepathically look ok to everyone? I will avoid using it too often, but instances where multiple complicated thoughts can be joined together I thought it would work. Kinda like those crazy German words that mean whole concepts.

I can back down from it it's a bit too much.

I like it so keep at it from my perspective.

A more unique/real character makes for a better/livelier the game.

See what I did there. :)

Oblivious to anything else in the room, the ysoki literally jumped for joy as he threw himself at the laser rifle in the shelf.

He lovingly rubbed his face on the gun, "Bertha, it's so good to see you again. I thought I had lost you for good like that time..."

Aware of the others watching him, he excused himself, "It's a long story, maybe some other time."

He then proceeded to get dressed and stuff his pockets and pouches with his belongings.

He took out four poker chips and gave them to Tek, "These are yours. I only took them to keep them safe in all the turmoil of the ship falling apart."

Twitch just stated the obvious, "Yeah, some sort of elevator but we can't go around here naked and with a stick."

He looked at the big guy, "I think we should inspect the hallway/room where the noise is coming from. I would hate for something to come up behind us."

He turned around, "Speaking of that... where are the dog people?"

Since it was specifically asked, let's keep off topic and general chit chat to the discussion thread :).

Humorous and inane comments are not only welcome, but encouraged hehe.

As for mapping, I'll see how I go before I recruit one of you :).

The pdf comes with a second file that has maps and images for use with players in mind (no numbering etc). It actually took me less than five minutes to do the map in the end. Much better than I thought.

Photobucket has changed since I used it two years ago. It will do for the moment, but I'll look into an alternate that can maybe provide larger image on screen.

Good, I'm glad comments are welcome. This is a fun, social game, right? :)

I have that second file of course.

I do turn recaps for the games I GM and use Google sites to host turns, pics, etc. so let me know if you need help.

Always trying to free up the GM so he can dedicate himself to running the game. :)

Twitch made way for the vesk to lead the way, "Once I find Big Bertha, I'll lead if you want but not much of a fighter with this here club."

Thanks for the maps. I also have the AP and can post maps if you want me to. I only perused the book. Does it have players and GMs maps?
