So here's the thing, I've always been a little confused about the massive gulf between the different races starting ages and what the physical/mental progression would be.
I can understand 16 as the lowest possible starting age for humans, as a rough point around which a human could be considered to have the appropriate physical and mental development to start there life and profession, or have gained their first class level. And can accept that for instance an elf reaches a similar point at around 120 (114 being the youngest possible and likely a scandalously young age to be vying for independence) but what then does an elf look like at 100? how much difference do those few years make? For that question what does an elf look like when they're 50? Or 20? At what age do they progress past toddler? Why does a 120 year old elf not have a vaster accumulation of knowledge than a 16 year old human can?
More specificly how does this apply to the half human half outsider races, who start taking levels at 64? especially considering that most are born to human parents how do you manage to only become an indipendant functioning adult around the time your parents would be dying of old age? How do human parents manage the raising of a child that might remain a toddler for 10 years or more?
Something I've always been curious about if anyone has any thoughts on the matter I'd love to hear them.
