Since it's pfs you could go taldor and actually get the Ulfen Guard title too. Problem being you would have to try and intimidate your way through the taldor missions. Which may actually be fun.

I doubt the archetype is underpowered at all. I think he just wanted to use that title.

There is actually a fighter archetype for a viking if you are interested in that: viking

This is a blog post about a typical human sword and board fighter: linky

I'm no expert either but I have been mulling the same character Idea around in my head as well.

Thank you everyone for your great advice. I wasn't expecting this much input. I am still playing around with it, I think KutuluKultist probably has the best an elven strength paladin can be. It took me awhile to figure out that paladins had a high will save on top of the divine grace, so there really is no reason to not drop wis to 7.

I am still playing around with the builds, being a dex paladin still has it's appeal. Maybe give up fey foundling all together. Starting to resent it for being so good.

Str 14
Dex 17
Con 13
Int 10
Wis 7
Cha 15

1 Fey Foundling / Weapon Finesse
3 Weapon Finesse / Weapon Focus if no Fey Foundling
4 +1 Dex
5 Power Attack
7 Furious Focus
8 +1 Cha
9 Weapon Focus: elven curve blade / Deadly Aim / Extra Lay on Hands / Critical Focus
11 Take your pick
12 +1 Con

Probably mix up the feats however you want. Can run around in a mithral breastplate for more mobility, much better at archery. Less damage, slower feat growth.

Thinking about what athaleon posted, half elf is straight up better for these than an elf. Only half as cool though.

Elven Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)

Str 16
Dex 14
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 15

1 Fey Foundling
3 Power Attack
5 Deadly Aim
7 Extra Lay on Hands or whatever
9 Improved Critical (Elven Curve Blade)
11 Critical Focus

At level one +4 to hit at 1d10+4 with Curve Blade.. Should be enough? I'll probably be using a longsword for my first adventure anyway - wait to get a masterwork curve blade.

Really looking at Warrior of the Holy Light. It has synergy with Vengeance, and it's fluffy as heck for an elven paladin of Sarenrae. Someone tell me giving up all my spells is crazy?

Thanks for the advice all. My goal is to be a melee oriented character, with an elven curve blade. The Divine hunter is neat, but it gives up things I like.

Switch hitting is optional. I just like how with smite and deadly aim I can suck less against fliers. Quick draw is probably useless and could be something else.

To be honest, I just want to be this guy. >_<; I'm not going for that much optimization, just trying to not be useless.

Point buy hurts. It seems like the most I can get out of strength without dumping everything is 16. 16/14/12/10/10/14, or maybe 16/12/12/10/10/15.

Oath of Vengeance is looking nice, I kinda want to take warrior of the holy light too. Any experience there?

edit: I guess fey foundling can go, power attack early seems needed. Even with 14 strength I can power attack for 1d10+6..

Heya.

I'm a bit new to this and have been running through character concepts in my head for some pfs games (I haven't played a pfs game before.)

I would really like to make an elven paladin, but I'm not having a lot of luck. Here is what I have so far.. He's some sort of paladin switch hit thingy.

Str 14
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 10
Cha 15

(Level Ups in Cha)

1 Fey Foundling
3 Power Attack
5 Deadly Aim
7 Quick Draw
9 Improved Critical (Elven Curve Blade)
11 Critical Focus

As you can see he takes forever to get rolling. Waiting until Level 3 for power attack really hurts. It wouldn't be so bad but fey foundling is nice because 1) It's awesome and 2) the fluff is really neat for a forlorn elf.

Anyone out there got some advice on this? I think If I go into a pfs game doing 1D10+3 damage at +3 to hit I might get laughed off the table. Well, At least I could take power attack for 1 and switch it for fey foundling at 2 then I would only be really bad for a level? I don't know.

To be honest in a game like this where you can get 26 charisma or more, I'm more inclined to let the players rp and fluff however they want and just use the stats for dice rolls. Especially in point buy where people feel like they have to dump to keep up in an 'arms race.' They can rp how they want and the dice will do the rest.

edit: That said, I understand where Auren is coming from and agree. There is a line where it just goes into cheese, but it is up to the groups to decide what flies and what doesn't.

i think people dont like the cavalier because they make it narrow , a single attack charger.

when they cant charge - they are pissed.
instead, look at it as a strong melee with a full AC, that CAN charge.
first learn nice team feats with your partners, power attack and more.
only than learn how to charge.
make sure mount take dragon style so it can charge through allies.

a good build cavalier is a power full front liner in any team.

mine took 1 level of fighter, and took stalwart feat. he had high DR, great armor class as a small halfling. power attacking with str of 16 was ok. and the wolf tripped a lot with tandem trip.

was he breaking the game? ofc not.
was he usefull? very.
with order of the sword, at level 12 i also was able to charge supreme.

Good advice! I really like the dragon style on the mount, but what happens mechanically when the beast takes the improved unarmed combat feat? seems weird. Even if it does nothing dragon style might be worth it.

I have been thinking about what I would assume to be a pretty standard halfling cavalier for pfs.

power attack + risky striker + challenge + charge with lance + order of the paw giant slayer bonus

this little guy has a size complex and has something to prove.

"halfling hero"
cavalier (emmisarry) - order of the paw

str 14
dex 16
con 14
int 10
wis 12
cha 10

racial: fleet of foot or outrider
traits: helpful (halfling), dangeriously curious

1: [mounted combat], power attack
2:
3: [cavalier's charge], risky striker
4:
5: [mobility], ride-by-attack
6: spirited charge
7: improved overrun
8: [trample]
9: [trick riding] charge through
.
.
.
???

Don't really like how he is so charge oriented though. I might push back the mounted feats a bit to pick up combat reflexes.. not sure. Power attack is all i really need to be decently helpful out of saddle anyway if I carry around a 2 handed sword. his will save sucks too, although fearless and lucky help. A 13/16/14/10/14/10 spread might be better but gimped a bit; the damage will be hurting until 4 when you can get str to 14.

Any advice?

edit: a variation:

emissary/honor guard

1: [mounted combat], power attack
2:
3: [bodyguard], combat reflexes
.. etc down mounted line fitting in risky striker.

You can give +5 ac as an AoO to an ally with bodyguard but you lose a nice bonus to hit when charging. Still, this version would be more helpful to a party I would think.

I didn't make it, but I like this duel scythe build.

Trip Rogue

doing something similar with a knife master, and taking gang up and quick draw over the trip talents might work too. I don't know, just take weapon finesse and keep his dex high enough to compensate for his hit.
dex>con>wis>cha>int>str

Also, I believe you can use a masterwork buckler while duel wielding, gaining the ac bonus whenever you aren't making a full attack, but taking a -1 to hit with your off hand on rounds you do.. (I might be wrong about that though.)

I really don't know much about the slayer, I just read the playtest pdf the other day.

I've been working on a halfling cavalier (emissary) for pfs play. A heads up, I've never actually played pathfinder (just 2nd edition back in the day) but on paper he looks all right.

Take power attack at first level, use a small or normal lance mounted and a small two-handed sword. at 14 strength you are still power attacking for 1d10+6. lance is 1d6+6x2. Take helpful (halfling) trait to boost aid another to +4, which is nice. risky striker at 3, more damage against people that matter. mobility at 4, ride-by attack at 5. take order of the paw, you can give your party save rerolls and later on continue your tendency to hate big things. a halfling knight with a size complex, sounds fun to play in any case.

oh, and with that racial trait for movement you can get 30ft a round in medium armor as an emissary, or if you really want to be glued to your mount take the +2 ride.

halfling charge monkey probably isn't ground breaking, but it's how I would go..
