Quote: Poor Kia had to spend much of the fight keeping Vel alive, but it's very much appreciated :-). You're welcome. It's what Kia does. I think she'd be an office manager in the modern world. They do more-or-less the same things (without the killing bits). I can just see her muttering disapprovingly to herself as she sorts out everyone's problems and tells them what to do. I've got two paragon characters now!

My apologies for this prolonged no-show. My problem is really that I am no longer finding inspiration in Ynyr. I like him very much, but he has become difficult to role play - particularly given the fact that I find artificers uninspiring as a class. Let me catch up and post my moves and, hopefully, the inspiration will return to me.

Actually, you'd probably be very welcome there, if you could get someone to sponsor you. It's only women (or more, generally, females of the feminine gender) they would have any objection to.

Kia is carrying on most definitely. After all there are more wrongs to right and that is what she does isn't it? I might have a look at possible new lower level powers though. Anyway, if she wasn't there to look after him, Arianwyn would get into so much trouble. Honestly, sometimes she really doesn't know why she bothers. I'm really enjoying playing a warlord, much to my surprise (I thought it would be boring) but it is quite a challenge.

As far as Ynyr's dagger is concerned, I've assumed that he tinkered with it a bit and turned his +2 dagger of giant slaying into a +1 vengeful dagger. This is a level 5 item so I have taken up the level 4 item slot and paid the difference between level 4 and level 5 (i.e. 160GP). Is that acceptable? According to the Character Builder from WotC, it says that if you are starting at a level higher than level 1, you can take the three magical items for free and also any non-magical adventuring gear that you like before having to start paying for things. The 560gp you get is for extra magical items (or for saving). Id this the way you are doing this?

I'm confused. Can someone please explain to me what the advantage is of being an alchemist? The book says: Benefit: You can make alchemical items of your level or lower. You must have the correct formula and an appropriate skill. If I can buy Alchemist's acid for 20gp in a shop, but, if I want to make it myself, I have to pay 70gp for the formula and then STILL pay 20gp for the alchemist's acid, I see no advantage. Unless, of course, I run out of the stuff during an adventure and happen to come across a chest which happens to have the ingredients I need. I feel sure, that if I make the stuff myself, it should be significantly cheaper than buying it on the open market.

I think one of the reasons our home game chums are poor in items is because some people don't look round in all the places some of us expect them to.... But it should be almost, but not quite, one magic item per person per level.

Thanks, I have said my farewells to the Silver Rose membership in the game thread. I haven't made it impossible for Ffethpaar to return, should he sort out his troubled tribe, but it might not be practical. To the players here, it has been fun and educational. Thanks for your patience with me and I am sorry I need to leave this thread.

Guys, I'm really sorry, but I think I have to be out of this. It is a shame that I must leave what looks to be one of the best PbP sessions on this site but it I have too many commitments at the moment. Rehearsing 4 evenings a week, trying to run a regular face to face and do an Open University degree at the same time is leaving me little enough time to spend with my family. I don't normally get to even look at my computer until gone 10 at night and often I am too tired to read anything. If you wish I can stay around so that you can write Ffethpaar out gracefully (he wants his nice mug anyway). He may well be having a crisis of conscience and want to achieve his aims by some other means which will involve more of his tribe, or we can think of another reason. Please forgive my decision. It has been a great introduction to PbP.

Just so you know, I am still here and following what is going on. I am having a slight inspiration failure and my sleep pattern is being shot to pieces by having to watch the Olympics. The game is still inspiring but I just can't think of anything to post right now. But I will post again as soon as I see anything that needs my attention and then, hopefully, my inspiration circuits will cut in again. Ffethpaar is naturally taciturn anyway so it is all in character...

TwiceBorn wrote: This of course depends on whether Kia is the kind of person who would deal a coup de grace to an unconscious opponent, rather than taking them prisoner... That having been said, Baldrech would strongly consider dealing his enemies a coup de grace... Kia is a good girl, but good and bad are very polarised in her mind. She naturally assumes everyone is good if they don't attack her or her party, and is inclined to give most creatures the benefit of the doubt if she can. However, once in combat, her enemies are firmly on the bad side, and she is not thinking about what a good person would do, but thinking tactically instead. In this case, given the likelihood of the kobolds waking up and throwing more firebombs at the party, it seems a tactically wise thing to do. I suppose if she gives it some thought, she might just take the fire bombs instead but this is the heat of battle, you know, and battle doesn't always bring out the best in people...

Do you think we should try to get rid of the unconscious kobolds, so Vel's work will not all be in vain? Reading up on this, they are helpless so everybody has combat advantage (because they are unconscious) so that is +2 to all attack rolls even for ranged attacks. Also, because they are unconscious, all their defenses are at -5. So, if the ranged guys concentrate on K3, Kia can wade in to deliver the coup de grace (any melee hit is critical), while Whiteclaw and Anarak, between them should be able to finish off K5 (although they might think their time better spent hitting the lizard thing).

We should have a place to put information that people should be aware of about the abilities of the other players so that they can position themselves, if they wish, to take advantage of these facts. It could save endless discussion time. Although discussion is also useful too but if you are close to the posting deadline you may not have the luxury. For instance for Kia: - Everyone gets a +2 bonus to initiative if within 10 squares.

I think I am going to settle on an eladrin warlord (warlady?). Kia Rubarka is very focused and goal oriented (how I hate that phrase!). She also doesn't suffer fools (or people not as oriented to her goals) gladly. But she does approve of Doing Good and generally manages to get on with others despite her goaliness. I'll create her details shortly. She'll probably join the party because she was asked and she has a love of arcane and historical stuff. Probably wasn't expecting so many people though.
