About Thornir Lorebearer

Personality and Questions:

PERSONALITY
Thornir Lorebearer is a calm and collected - perhaps the reasons he is not as successful in his business endeavors as the more animated merchants of Wati. In combat, he appears focused and disciplined, a result of military training. He is very inquisitive and is driven by the quest for knowledge. He tends to ask "why" with the same fervor and peaked interest as a flourishing child. He gets along well with others but he does not have friends of his own. Thornir tends to focus on his own goals - financial stability, knowledge, and peace of mind.

QUESTIONS
1....Visual description of character (feel free to post link to images if you have something specific in mind)
Skin: The color of burnt sand
Height: 6'1"
Age: 34
Hair: Shoulder-length, Dark Brown (appears black without bright light), a few braids and dreads capped with beads
Build: Slim, Fit and Quick

2....Why do you care about tomb exploring? Why risk death at the hands of ancient traps or untold horrors buried away? Isn't there an easier way for your character to make a living? Is it just greed for gold or something else?
Thornir has a few reasons to join the annual "festival". For one, he has signed up in the hopes of returning with valuable artifacts that will put his business on the map and get him back on track. Second, should his business fail (which is his honest expectation), this should give him a safe chance to reawaken the skills he once mastered for combat. And lastly, it will provide the perfect opportunity to discover hidden information and artifacts that are key to understanding the history of Wati, and Osirion as a whole - Thornir's ultimate passion.

3....Brief history as to how you heard about lottery and came to be in Wati:
Thornir was born and raised in Wati as an only child. His family was poor and citizens of Bargetown. He had hoped to provide for his parents with money earned through military service, but they passed during his training period. He continued with the career path as he had valuable inheritance and military life offered more than adequate compensation. After ten years of service, he retired at the age of 26 and pursued the life a sellsword for the next year. When Pharaoh Khemet III announced the opening of the tombs, Thornir joined in with the many opportunists and created a hopeful business in buying and selling the treasured artifacts salvaged from within. Now, the very thing that led to his financial downturn may be just the turnaround he needs.

Background:

Thornir Lorebearer grew up as simply Thornir. His parents were the poorest of the poor and grew up on the filthy backwaters of Bargetown, a section of Wati rife with smuggling and illegal trading. As a child, he spent most of his free time away from home and perusing the town and learning about its rich history, whether through historical books or the ramblings of eccentric fabulists. He learned a great deal this way, and surprised the military recruiters with his above-average intelligence for someone with his background. He was readily accepted into their ranks as a result of eagerness and initiative and would spend the next ten years in their service. He learned a great deal about military tactics and the local history from their extensive archives. His parents passed not long into his joining, at which point he decided to give don himself with a surname he figured most appropriate - Lorebearer. He was able to get the change notarized and was henceforth known as Thornir Lorebearer. At the end of his service, he chose to follow the path of a mercenary in hopes of more exciting work and traveling to exotic lands, but he had a habit of signing on to jobs that kept him relatively close to home. The money was good, however, and he was able to escape the debauchery of Bargetown and find a quiet place in Asp to take up residence.

When Thornir was only 27 years of age, the Ruby Prince, Pharaoh Khemet III, opened the ancient tombs in hopes of attracting tourist and funneling money into the recovering economy of Wati. It was a successful endeavor, but not so much so for Thornir. Deciding it was time to retire from his life of violence, he set up shop in the Veins selling historical texts, cheap artifacts and minor trinkets of lore with the ultimate hope of collecting the valuables found within the tombs, mostly for his own enjoyment as opposed to profit. But he wasn't equipped for this industry, neither in personality nor in personal finances, and his little shop began to feel like a fading light in a dark tunnel. If his business didn't see a drastic turnaround, he would be forced to return to Bargetown. As a last ditch effort, he signed up for the tomb-raiding raffle and hoped it would save his business or, at the very least, dust of his martial abilities so that he could return to the life of a mercenary once more.
