Born to an orc slave of House Charthagnian, Thog was taken from his mother as soon as a guard noticed the Birthmark on his right forearm. Born branded as a servant of Asmodeus in a house pledged to serve Hell for centuries, Thog was still looked down on for his low beginnings. It wasn't enough that he learned from the same tutors as the other children, or that he took the same Oaths, or that he passed the same initiations. The fact that he was the illegitimate son of the eldest heir was something he knew was never to be spoken of. Through all this, Thog persevered. He learned how to turn his emotions inward and use the anger and bitterness to fuel the fire in his soul. He learned how to take control of the chaos around him and to impose his will on those weaker than him. He learned how to take advantage of the perceptions of his rivals and, rather than betray or kill them, how to subtlely take advantage of the situation to promote his own station.

One night, he was approached by a servant. "I know of your past. I know of your hatred of the slavers for how they treated your mother." She was an Andoran spy, posing as a servant to find some weakness in the House and to find new converts to the cause of 'freedom'. She had, mistakenly, listened to the prejudices of the other clerics and decided Thog was a prime candidate. She was wrong. As was his way, He turned the situation to his advantage. He converted to the Andoran cause, but only fed them information that hurt his rivals. Through his subtle machinations, He was able to raise his status in Cheliax to the level that, when he chose to leave for Absalom to petition the Pathfinder Society for membership, House Charthagnian considered his departure a grave loss.

Pathfinder membership was exactly what Thog needed. All his life, all he had ever known, was a twisted view of the world. The Pathfinders opened his eyes, and showed him that it took a strong man to show kindness and mercy. He also learned that the Andorans could be just as cruel as his Chelaxan masters when it came to their enemies. 'Freedom' and 'redemption' were just words to make them sound different than Cheliax. It was for this reason, and others, that when Thog abandoned the worship of Asmodeus, he chose the Silver Crusade instead of the expectant Andorans.
