*sheepishly checks in after disappearing for far too long* I am with Sirith in that I plan to stay with this until the end, even with the Librarian's major indiscretion causing a major blow to his pride and reputation

The Librarian arrives just after everyone disperses, still in his Chelaxian disguise. Seeing the dock empty, he shrugs as he wanders up to the ship, looking for a small splinter to take from the ship. After he does so, he wraps it up in a handkerchief and stashes it in one of his pockets. He wanders up to the gangplank, stopping at the foot of it to shout, Permission to come aboard?
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: Enticing, but no. Your information was very helpful, The Librarian says as he drops 10 coins on the merchant's stall and turning to walk back to the docks, taking up a jog in hopes of catching up with the captain and his new purchase.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: Did he bring any merchandise with him, or was he just here to buy? The Librarian asks while looking down his new Chelaxian nose. That's longer than expected... he muses to himself as he draws coins from his pouch in an exaggerated manner and continues before he receives an answer, was there anything special about this Osiriani man, or was he a slave like any other?
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: Curious... perhaps we should follow up on this... The Librarian says, pausing in the street. He will pull out a piece of paper and write, New information regarding Gorn. Confirmed Twilight Talon 4 years ago. Have teams follow up, find out if still in good standing. and will then break a feather token, tie the message to it, and release it. With his new wheels set turning, he will begin asking around about Veddig, trying to discover who he dealt with while here, trying to discover if he sold slaves and to whom, usually opening with You there, I am looking for an associate of mine, Veddig Gorn. I understand he has been here today, and will pay for information regarding his whereabouts. He will pay to any that have the information he requests. I have 994gp, and will start the palm greasing at 10gp per helpful bystander/merchant, increasing the required gold as necessary Gather Information: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

GM: Of course, Paralictor, it is only my duty as a citizen of law. The Librarian say with a final bow, now, I am truly sorry, but I must take my leave now. I look forward to meeting again. He pauses to see if she makes a move to detain him, and assuming she does not he shows himself out, being sure to bow his head to the receptionist on his way out. He begins making his way to the Slave Pits, following up on the Paralictor's lead. He uses his Hat of Disguise to change his appearance and bearing to that of a Chelish man in fine, expensive clothes, the hat taking a form of a red ribbon tying back his hair. He mutters and thinks mantras along the lines of, "I own you. And I own you. And I own that. And I own...."
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: I'm glad that I could be of assistance in bringing justice to those who would think to skirt the law, The Librarian says with a deep bow, and I hope this leads to a mutually beneficial relationship. All I ask is that I be kept abreast of interesting characters you... interact with, he says with a chuckle. Is that agreeable?
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: The Librarian's smile will return as he begins, There is a boat currently docked named The Broken Bow. Her captain is named Veddig Gorn. I have good information that says he is in the business of obtaining slaves illegally and smuggling them places. I don't know if he has his business with him, but I thought you'd be interested in keeping an eye on him, as I know how important the law is to you, Paralictor. He will then quickly check out the window to see where the sun sits in the sky, waiting for the response from the Hellknight before him, thinking it'd be wise to wait for her to give him leave rather than take his leave.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: Thieves Guild? I am hurt my dear Hellknight, The Librarian says with genuine hurt etched across his face I assure you, I do not make my money off thievery and extortion, just the trade of information. It is a service necessary to all nations, is it not? You have informants in your Cheliax, I presume, and are they not rewarded for their accurate information? That is all I wish to be for you in Absalom: an informant that is payed for their information that leads to the law being upheld. After all, I have to eat, do I not? Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM: Greetings! The Librarian will say and deeply bow, I represent a party interested in information and the dissemination of said information to interested or deserving parties. He will come out of his bow and smile at the Hellknight, continuing: I am known as The Librarian, and I believe you and I have some business, as I have information about illegal slave trafficking. My price is this: you and I will enter a partnership where I provide you with information on information related to your interests, and you will provide me with payment, either in the form of information, favors, or goods. What say you to this, Great Enforcer of Law? He says all of this without a hint of sarcasm, disrespect, or loftiness. He is there merely as a businessman offering a deal that is entirely above board.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
The Librarian makes a flourishing bow and sighs, Would love to join you all, but I have some business to attend to elsewhere. I hope this will be of use to you, my friends. Do be sure to inform me if you find anyhting! and with a grin, he will turn to Fist and say Fist, my friend, would you go wait at The Undertow for me? And be sure to alarm me if anyone of interest comes to see me or The Reader. One of those feather tokens we have stocked should do the trick, he says as he begins walking toward the west of the city. GM: I will go searching for any Order of the Chain Hellknight enclaves in Absalom. I believe them and I can do some business.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Ah, Sakaan! Just the man I wanted to see. The Librarian says with a smile as he stands from his chair, I understand you are to clean and repair the ship in question, the Broken Bough? He will also turn to Esha and say If you were willing, I believe that would be enough to cover the cost. If Amara was already aware of this, well... I'm sure we can work something out. I'll be sure to spend some time around The Undertow to make myself available. He will then wave lazily as she takes her leave, mumbling something along the lines of "toodles."
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
GM:
Would I know if there are any Hellknights of the Order of the Chain in the area? A shadow crosses over the Librarian's face as Esha questions his information, but his tone remains as pleasant as ever, I assure you Esha, my information is correct. If you don't wish to know it, you don't have to remain. But I do have a business to run, so you'll understand if I can't give information away for free. He will then turn his attention back to Sirith, leaning in as his face brightens again, Well, my dear Sirith, my sources tell me that the captain of the Broken Bough-- A Keleshite man by the name of Veddig Gorn-- is not the simple shipper and merchant that he claims to be. He's known as a slaver, but not just any slaver, as he does not fly the yellow sails. Rather, he specializes in high-value slaves, and illegally obtained slaves. He also frequently docks in Andoran, so obviously he'd want to keep his true business a secret. That's perhaps why your networks may not have dredged up his dirty little secret. He takes another sip of tea to let the information sink in before continuing I am waiting on another source to confirm whether he has any... cargo... on his ship at the moment. I'll be sure to let you know when I get confirmation, as part of our transaction. When he is done, he pours himself more tea, leans back, and calmly waits for a response.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
The Librarian slowly sips his tea, savoring the flavor of it this early in the morning. It's not very often he gets to enjoy such luxuries while on a job. After a couple sips, he lightly sighs and sets his tea down. I do so hate this part, but you do understand I'm not here completely altruistically. The information I am going to give you is going to cost you. Not immediately, of course, but the payment won't be negligible when I come to collect. What I am about to tell you is... he lets out a deep sigh, Well, I could probably gain more by extorting the captain than by revealing this to you, but I figured my friend should have the chance to act first. Is that arrangement fine? He will say with an apologetic smile.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Sirith! Just the woman I was hoping to see! The Librarian says with a large grin, displacing his scarf enough to reveal his gills. And Esha, what a pleasure to see you again, how is Amara? Without waiting for a response, he turns back to Sirith and says Actually, I was hoping you would want to know something about the Broken Bow, as I have some information you may find interesting. I was searching for you so we could set up an arrangement. Perhaps we should adjourn momentarily to the sanctity of your beautiful temple? he says with a gleam in his eye, speaking to his interest in making a deal. He also turns to Esha and says I'm sure you'd be interested in hearing this as well, if Sirith is fine with you joining out little meeting
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Yes yes, her. Perhaps we should set up a meeting before the ship moves too far. The Librarian says while stroking his chin, debating what to do. Finally, after a good thirty seconds he slaps his legs and stands from his chair, head nearly hitting the lantern hanging above him and jovialy shouts Come, Fist! We have no time for a letter, we shall go meet her personally! It's been far too long since we've seen her anyway, as he heads to the door, taking a moment to look at the painting hanging on the back wall and muttering perhaps we should pay a visit to that Turanerra girl as well... as he strides out the door, Fist trailing close behind.

"I appreciate the offer Sakaan, but it wouldn't help much. Haven't been able to see much farther than the the end of a pier for about a decade or so (chuckle)" He has the Clouded Vision curse :-P

I actually originally thought of the precipice quarter, but I figured the undead in the area would be bad for business. Just leave me where I am, I couldn't see that far over the bay anyway :-P

Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Ok, I REALLY like that. That painting would definitely be prominently hung in the shop for all to see, and the arrangement sounds like something The Librarian would be amicable to. I'll have to be sure to remember that Turanerra isn't in the loop though :-)
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Actually, The Librarian is always wearing a hat of disguise and is fond of meeting people in different guises, so Amara and The Librarian could have both seen each other while transformed and not realized, or even more humorously could have had meetings disguised as representatives of themselves :-P
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Turanerra: You know, I actually like that idea for The Librarian and Turanerra's relationship. The Librarian would be more than happy to gather some objects for found art projects in addition to keeping her "friends" from Oppara of her trail, in exchange for some of her seascapes or sunsets, though he probably would hold on to them for their sentimental value... or to hang backwards in the window on especially dreary days :-P Dolgrin: I think that's a reasonable thought, Fist would probably have sought you out for the darkened metal, partially because of the intimidation factor of it.
Gillman Lore Oracle/7 l HP: 52/52 l AC:22, T: 15, FF: 18 l Fort: +6, Ref: +9, Will: +7 (+2vs Enchantments) l Vulnerable to Fire
Going with the trend Amara started, I think I'll post some possible connections as well. Amara and Esha:
I like what Amara put here, and I think that relationship between Amara and the Librarian would work swimmingly, especially if they set to trading information. Funny aside, I had actually set up my business at the docks because I figured it would be a great place for a broker to keep their finger on the pulse of Absalom, with so many coming and going each day, all bringing new secrets to share. I also like the dichotomy of Amara getting her secrets by people coming to her, and The Librarian going out to get the secrets himself. /end ramble Sakaan and Osik:
Seeing how they both operate at the docks, I think The Librarian would probably have interacted with Sakaan, either on a professional level by sending business his way in return for favors or any information Sakaan finds on the ships he repairs, or on a personal level such as them getting drinks after a long day or chatting at eachother's respective storefronts. I leave it to you to decide which is more probable for Sakaan. Turanerra and Kvallen:
Other than possibly helping to keep "friends" from Oppara off her trail in exchange for what information she can offer, I don't really know that The Librarian would have interacted much with Turanerra. He'd know of her and her cult, of course, but other than that I'm not certain the two would know eachother. Dolgrin and Lithandra:
As with Turanerra, I don't think Dolgrin and The Librarian would have interacted much, if at all. Definitely would know of Dolgrin's smithy, but other than that I don't know if there'd be a connection (especially if Dolgrin was trying to stay completely above-board) Sirith and Prakar:
Though The Librarian has no qualms with slavery, he is more than happy to provide information for Sirith about whichever slaver or slave she may ask about, for the right price. I also have no doubt that Sirith and The Librarian have crossed paths on occasion on their way to or from Amara's temple, so they may even have a cordial acquaintanceship. Josephus and Benjen:
Always good to have an Investigator! The Librarian will have doubtlessly requested the aid of Josephus and Benjen, for both of their unique skillsets, in exchange for information on whatever mark Josephus happens to be chasing at the time. Alternatively, Josephus and The Librarian could have come in direct conflict, with The Librarian withholding or actively hiding information about one of Josephus's marks, causing a tension between the two. Or both things could have happened at different points in time! Definitely excited for when we get everything up and running, this is going to be a very different game than most!
A tall man with long black hair and deep purple eyes saunters up to the meet, glancing around and seeing that he and his companion appear to be the first to arrive. He glances over his shoulder and shouts Well, looks like we're early, Fist. Didn't happen to bring any of that Chelish brandy with yah, huh? His companion, a slightly shorter humanoid with the head of a tiger, simply shakes his head and says Nope, sorry boss. Didn't think we'd need it, especially on official Reader business. Ah, you're too uptight, Fist, The man says, leaning back in a chair and resting his legs on the nearest suitable rest, and will wink as he continues and alcohol is a great way to loosen lips, which is the best time to press for information. He then leans back and closes his eyes, patiently waiting for his contacts to arrive. Suppose I'll watch for our appointment? Fist grumbles out. Well of course, the figure in the chair will chuckle out, Your eyes are much better then mine anyway, you wouldn't want me on lookout. Can barely see to the end of the street in the Merchant Quarter, let alone in this district. Yeah, right. Your curse and all that. Well, I'll alert you if I see anyone coming, Librarian, Fist will grunt as he steps outside the door, looking for the contacts they were supposed to meet. Yes, please do the Librarian will sigh, and I was so hoping this would be a quick meeting. I wonder if Torch ever had to deal with these delays... sleep is for the week... |
