My players are making up some mythic PCs to face Cthulhu (stats as written, all official Paizo products allowed) just for fun and I'm not entirely sure how to run Cthulhu. His summoned star-spawn will be there to hopefully drain resources, but how should I use Wish? What about Control Weather? The star-spawn can speak (telepathic communication) as a free action to trigger Overwhelming Mind, but that's a one time trick with a low DC for level 20/tier 10 PCs. With DCs in the 20's, I'm doubtful they'll hinder the party too much. Cthulhu gets Gate 3/day and the star-spawn get it 1/day. What should they drag to the fight? Cthulhu gets wish 1/day. How should he use it? cthulhu's claws hit in a 10x10 square. Does the grab go off against everything the claw hits?
The last bit of tracking information that I received on my AP subscription was this:
Unarmed Fighter 2/Tetori Monk 6
Grabbing Style says that I can make one-handed grapple attempts without taking the -4 penalty for only using one-hand. Where is this stated in the rules? Grabbing Drag will likely be the next feat that I take which specifies that you can't use that feat if you are grappling two targets. What are the rules for grappling multiple opponents and where can I find them so that I can have them on hand for my GM?
I'm running a kingdom building sandbox and exploration focused game through Roll20. The only real problem that I'm having is getting people to be proactive at the beginning of each session. I start with a recap of the last session, or of any one-on-one role play that took place between sessions. Then, I set the scene. There are maybe two players who really have any character development going on, but even they just take too long to be drawn out of their shell. What can I do to get my players into character and making decisions at the beginning of the session?
I've ran a number of games, but never started my players at anything higher than maybe 2nd or 3rd level. I'm looking to run Wardens of the Reborn Forge in the near future which assumes the PCs are 12th level to start. The Character Wealth by Level table says they should have 108,000 GP by that level. That's a LOT of gold. Should I put any restrictions on how that 108,000 GP is spent?
For some reason, maybe the last week, I've noticed that when I report PFS events, the calendar doesn't pop up when I try to put in the date, and no matter how many times I try to input the date manually, it disappears when I click save. When I try to put in ID and character #'s, name and faction doesn't automatically fill in. Did something change? Honestly, the formatting all over the site is off. The bar at the top with sign out, my account, etc is stacked vertically.
The other night I ran a scenario where the first encounter after the briefing, is the players trying to use bluff/diplomacy/intimidate to gain entrance into an important building. The briefing even said "if necessary, you’ll have to resort to bribing your way through." The party failed every skill check and then looked around puzzled. I mentioned bribery and got the response, "did they give us money for bribes?" The scenario says they can retry with a different skill check, or with an additional bribe. But what if they're just not willing to spend their own gold and failed every social skill? Time is of the essence in this particular scenario, but it's not meant to start until after the next encounter. Since they weren't willing to bribe for the additional rolls, I penalized them 3 minutes on their time. They ended up doing fine in the end, but I wonder if I should have handled that differently.
I'm gearing up to run Throne of Night and hope to be creating the patron tonight with my players using mostly what Gary provided in the back matter. When you made your patrons, did you go with what Gary wrote, make up your own or somewhere between the two? Care to share what you and your players came up with?
When will we be getting more information on the event coinciding with the next comic release? I'm organizing this at two locations and my VOs don't seem to have much information to share. I'd really like to make this a great event, but I'm not even sure how my fellow GMs and I will get the PDF prior to the event since our information isn't attached to our store listings on the official event page.
I recently decided that it would be better to start running PFS for my home game as schedules were conflicting with all the players in two different games I was running (Legacy of Fire and D&D Next playtest). So now I've got a larger pool of players but some of them don't feel like taking the time to logging onto the website and registering. I've told them that they need to do nothing else, but they're just apathetic about it, even though they want to play. I've also got a coworker who wants me to run a few games for him and his two boys (10 and 12). Can I just assign them the pre-generated IDs and report it even if some of them never log in?
I've got a player who wanted to take a Roc animal companion in a previous game, and I was a little worried that it'd be too game-breaking with having to update every module to account for flight, so I disallowed it and said that I'd allow it in a more appropriate environment. I really don't have a problem with the Roc in general, but he's dead set on playing a Gnome Druid with a Roc companion in our upcoming LoF campaign. Will this be a major problem? I've read almost entirely through Howl of the Carrion King and I see a Peryton and Undrella, a Harpy, which really takes away the advantages of those enemies which I don't like. Would it be too much to add a second Harpy? What about in all the other combats? Certainly having a Roc scouting the town would speed up the time table for Kardswann finding out about the actions of the PCs. Should I add additional Gnolls to the Kulldis tribe with bows? I don't think that I'll allow the Roc to go underground or indoors unless it's incredibly spacious. Are there any specific encounters/locations that I haven't thought of?
I'm trying to work a PC witch's patron into some upcoming stories, but I'm having a hard time of defining that patron within the setting. The PC witch chose the enchantment patron and plays the character quite selfish and lusting after personal power. Droskar has the charm domain, but the character is an Elf.
Is there any additional material that I should look at? Where can I find more info on Norgorber and Socothbenoth since they're the most promising so far? What about the nascent demon lords?
What mounts are common in Legacy of Fire besides horses and camels? Are there any other creatures in the area that could possibly be used as mounts in Legacy of Fire? I have a player that wants to play a small cavalier, most likely a gnome or goblin. Wolves don't really seem appropriate to the setting but perhaps a hyena? Would re-skinning a wolf work? |
