About Tempus Proavus XLII

Tempus is a wanderer of Golarion. He appears to be a Samsaran of around 50 years old, but is actually only a few years into this lifetime. He has spent 41 previous lifetimes in a continuous cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, an odd gift from a being as powerful as any deity.

During his first lifetime, Tempus was a Garundi explorer and cartographer over 1200 years ago. During a trek to the Mwangi expanse, he stumbled into an opening to the first world. In the first world, he encountered may natural and uncannily near-natural creatures and places. It was a pure wonderland for an explorer.

Tempus crossed paths with a powerful being known as Shyka the Many. Shyka was and is a powerful chronomancer, fascinated by both time and death. In a brief conversation with Tempus, Shyka found and identified with the spark of curiosity and passion for learning within Tempus. Shyka took great interest in Tempus, and casually observed his life as he left the first world.

Tempus explored and documented much of the Mwangi expanse in his time, using magic to both navigate and document his travels. Unfortunately, his expedition led him too close to the borders of Usaro, and within days his entire party was captured and tortured by the demonic apes within. A fitting end to a life of adventure, Tempus was resigned to his fate. His only regret was the cost paid by his companions.

Shyka noted the unashamed quest for knowledge within Tempus, and took his mortal soul. Shyka, instead of watching Tempus proceed to the Boneyard, slipped the navigator into a different path. Transforming him into one of the Samsarans of Tian Xia, Shyka gave Tempus an eternal time loop to pursue his interests. While a true chronomancer can exist within and beyond time completely, the life of a Samsaran is the closest existence for a mortal in Golarion.

Tempus awoke in a new body, with a new life, in the first world, but already middle aged. The being, Shyka, which he met years ago gave him a single command. "Your soul is committed to exploration, young one. I want your soul to continue your journey. Start new, explore, live, die, and live again. Spend a lifetime exploring part of the material world and beyond. You will have many lives in many bodies, but your soul will always explore. When you explore the same land twice, I will return your soul to the path from which it was taken. You will see Pharasma, but you will have your chance to explore first."

With that, Tempus Proavus II was born. His memories blended with those of his past life, and he began his life as an explorer. Time after time, life after life, place after place, Tempus explored. He married occasionally, sired few and buried fewer children. Every life was a fresh start, a fresh adventure, but with sporadically accrued memories of lives already led. He started each new life with a desire to move on, spurred on by both the desire of his soul and one consistent memory. He lived and died forty times over with a map in his minds eye, the places he had already been.

Now, in his forty-second lifetime, he awoke on Mediogalti island with two things: A burning image in his mind of Avistan, and a three word note in his pocket. Janira Gavix, Absalom.
