About Dron Drox
Background
Discipline and Fear
The Scarzni raise children as thieves, taught to understand about them and us. Strict obedience was drummed into each of their blood. They expect their own to be loyal and capable. Dron had no problem with following orders but no amount of smiling could hide his mental deficiencies. Dron's mother's pride turned to hatred of her own son that grew with each act of stupidity and foolishness. Keliona tried to beat some brains into him, but he only learnt to flinch and flee every time her hand lifted. By the age of nine, it was much safer for Dron on the streets than at home. His father and mother relinquished control of his future to the local Day Boss, so his visits home only happened on the occasional family celebration.
Pride of an Idiot
Dron had some skills. His reactions and quickness of hand and eye were rare. So Dron became a sneak. A pocket dipper who could earn his keep and garnered a certain status among the other street urchins. He became a "runner" or messenger for the Family. Now a teenager, Dron took to the basic training in burglary. He moved from locksmith, to trapsmith and even weapons. His proud mother even managed a smile when the reports of his lock breaking skills filtered up through the hierarchy.
Dron enjoyed her blessings after that but her approval went to his head. He desperately wanted to earn more of her approbation so, Dron broke into a house in broad daylight to show what he could really do. He knew they were away, what he didn't know was that the house was protected by the Scarzni. Ignorance was bliss, thus the loyal rogue handed a small fortune over to his Day Boss, openly admitting what he had done and left a little deflated at the lack of any positive reaction.
Greed and Betrayal
Days later and the Day Boss, Ferenzle, offered him another robbery. A Steaming Sea merchant's home that would take two with the aim to steal his collection of Hellsfire agate gems. Dron could barely contain his youthful glee at getting this mission. He knew that these stones were a kingly gift. So he eagerly met Cal Hunge, his partner, a thuggish half-orc with a dwarven waraxe. Up to a point the raid went well. But then he would never forget seeing the axe knock him senseless beside the open safe. Or the smell of Hunge's black breath as he whispered, "you never steal from one of your own, you poor fool. Your mother says enjoy Brandenscar!"
The Slippery Slope
It was a long court case, filled with plum witnesses and a bewildering array of evidence that the Watch threw at him. Worse each and every link was corroborated, showing that the gemstones were merely the beginning of a series of daring heists across the wealthy of Talingarde. The damning evidence was mysteriously supplied by his own people. Even Dron's meagre faculties could work out what was happening. But his desperate pleas fell on deaf ears, the judge, jury and counsel were all in on the take. You don't leave the Scarzni, they leave you.
Description and Personality
At the moment , young Dron is a nervous looking teenager who is only about five foot six tall. Depressed by the way the judge dispensed "justice" in support of his own family, he is a little lost and cannot see any hope in his future.
Beneath his current situation though, Dron is a dutiful and obedient soul with a strong sense of order and family. Dron has barely scratched the surface of his growing talents, making him ripe for corruption.
Party role(s)
This criminal is a follower with skills in stealth, trap-finding and his knowledge of the underworld have been ingrained since childhood. His main combat skills are using a sling but long term he will become a anti-paladin archer able to smite good. His future feats will reflect that although the exact mix of levels depends on what the other four PCs can do.
Roleplay
A callow youth hung out to dry, Asmodeus should provide the burning faith and organised discipline that turns Dron into an evil paladin and loyal assassin.
Women, especially maternal women, can bend him to their wishes a little too easily, a sign of Dron's present immaturity - something that I expect the tenets of Asmodeus to cleanse.
