Talivar considered for a moment before replying, "A distraction seems like a good idea... Out of curiousity what's the biggest dumbest thing you can summon? I might be able to stack some illusions on top. As for disguises I know what you mean but it depends who you're trying to fool, a low level pleb is one thing a senior member is quite another."

The thing about illusions and bluffs is they have to be believable.
I think we had penalties on our last disguise due to circumstance. Mantiss here are common place so a good disguise will likely fool commoners, The Mantis themselves possibly not, but there's a big difference between a lowly bloodvessel and a Vernai and I think we're far more likely to meet the former to begin with. Anyway I won't spend any more resources than taking ten and using disguise kits.

Talivar blinks at Talia when she doesn't respond immediately. Glancing at Uruelleth and Kilarra he tells them, "I'm going to take a look see at the pagoda, might be best if you came with..."

I'm intending to head towards it and try and get a look around the back of it, ideally from afar. Specifically looking for buildings behind the pagoda, ones we might be able to enter or climb on top of. The goal is to plan our entry into the pagoda.

Asking about watch schedules does seem like a decent idea... We could offer money and claim we're starting a 'business' and want to know where and hop often they patrol to make sure it'll be protected.

Agreed taking Klorn out sounds like it's going to be hard and I'm not sure we have the time.

Or here's a wild idea, after we have the scroll (assuming we don't get beaten up too badly) pay somebody to tell the watch people have broken into the pavilion, by which time we are near Sawtooth Keep. My bet is either that gets Klorn or a large number of the watch out. If Klorn is in the open we try to take him out. If not we try our luck in the keep.

Yeah tons could go wrong with that, but who dares wins.

Once they were outside, Talivar casually glanced around checking for watchers and danger.

Time seems to be of the essence so what ever we do it needs to be quick, this is enemy territory and we are not safe here. Perhaps we should change our disguises before leaving or shortly after. We need to decide how we're planning to leave, do we try the tunnels again or teleport directly away?

If we could eliminate Klorn I'm sure that would help impress the Kano. I'm thinking we should take a leaf out of the Mantis' playbook and attempt to find out where he lives and when he is most vulnerable. He's got to sleep at some time right, and I wonder if he's as paranoid about his personal safety as he should be? The Mantis have everyone running scared after all.

Talivar nodded at what Talia said but he added, "As a starting point I know in a big city on the mainland you could hire a priest to cast regenerate for perhaps seven or eight hundred gold and a scroll would be the best part of two and half thousand. Here I'd imagine things would be pricier assuming that gold was even useful in the exchange."

Without doubt heading into town was going to make things complicated. Especially if they decided to put Goldshackle's operations to an end at the same time. Still slavery was an anathema to an Andorran like Talivar and it was past time something was done about it.

BTW re mindscapes "You can create illusory creatures within the mindscape, but you’re able to direct or concentrate on only one at a time."

So if you made a veiled mindscape Draria might not recognize she's in one and you could mess with her.

Veiled Mindscape:
Veiled: The veiled immersive mindscape is the most insidious type. Its triggering mechanisms are designed to fool the target, trapping the creature in such a fashion that it doesn’t realize its reality is a product of its or another’s mind. The creator’s memories provide the basis for the mindscape, and any place or phenomenon she hasn’t experienced might be hard to replicate convincingly using only her imagination.

Psychic mindscape traps and spells often include a seamless transition from the real world to the mindscape in order to maintain the veil. For example, a chest trapped with a veiled immersive mindscape might trigger a visual and tactile continuation of the current situation, making the thief believe she still kneels before the container in the chamber where she found it. If the effect is done well and is powerful enough, the thief might live out several hours, days, or weeks of her life trapped in her own mind, while her body remains slumped before the chest, slowly dying from lack of food and water.

Anyway far from the only way to deal with Draria, but it does have some advantages.

Talivar thought about that before nodding, "Yes she has everything to loose doesn't she? I wonder, could we use a subtle veiled Mindscape to try and modify Driara's orders? You know you can appear as anything or anyone you like right? Including Bastien or any number of other Mantis... Perhaps we could instruct Driara to make an example of someone inconvenient for Firesinger in front of her as a 'reminder' of whose island this is. After that it almost doesn't matter what Firesinger's reaction is, at least one pawn will be removed from the table."

Very much a stab in the dark there and it might be better to take Driara out directly but I fear we will easily overstretch ourselves.

After listening to Talia's visions and her commentary, Talivar finds himself agreeing about the risks. He stopped pacing and mused, "This Firesinger sounds very dangerous and that's without an army and a Vernai at her back..." A sudden idea came to him, "Hmm I wonder, could those strengths be turned against her? Confusion spells on the army could be devastating, although there's no way we'd catch everyone in that. Maybe we need something else. Hmm what would it take to turn Driara against Firesinger? Could we try and sneak in and dominate her? No no, far too risky."

Talivar paced again for a moment before asking, "Unless. Talia have you ever heard of magic that allows you force someone into a kind of waking dream? Mmm what was the term for it, ah yes! A Mindscape. Could you try and ensnare Firesinger's mind and pull her into a Mindscape of your devising and there turn her against the Mantis? You wouldn't need to be all that close and if it failed you can just leave."

I think there's lots of opportunity for skulduggery with mindscapes. Lets say we want to sound somebody out, well it's probably way better to do that remotely via mindscape. The other thing I'm wondering about is the hallucination line of spells but I fear they're probably countered by true seeing.

I came across the spell Create Mindscape today, that could be quite useful both in combat and for clandestine activity. Kinda needs Mindscape door too. Thoughts? Is that more of a Talia thing?

Talivar's eyes near popped out at the lascivious fae, and his mouth formed an O of surprise. But there was a niggling doubt in his mind, 'What is that perfect thing? Wow what's she doing here? What did she do to Makkatat? Did she kill him?'

Talivar is going to wait to see if Urelleth and Kilarra make their saves. If not he'll try to cast dispel magic on the first one to fail.

Talivar eyed Urulleth as the effects of the spell ran it's course, he briefly considered attempting to dispel it but decided not to, likely they'd need conserve energy for the coming rescue attempt. When Uruelleth spoke Talivar agreed, "Yes let's. Shall we try his chamber first?"

There's an iuon stone that gives +1 will save, and there is a wayfinder resonance which stacks. You could also get a luck stone. I think there's also a hat which gives another +1.

I guess Talia/Talivar could learn/cast protect from evil. Won't always have time to cast that however. Talivar does know dispel magic which can help.

The Mantis were cockroaches so purging them with searing light seemed right somehow. Talivar clenched his fists and pulled as much power as he dared and whispered the spell once more. Again a titanic but entirely silent flash erupted in the middle of the combat causing terrible burns!

Talivar debated casting a haste or doubling down on his bursts of radiance. Both had benefits but blinding the enemy seemed the best option. Now there was a way of giving this spell a bit more oomph, but Urelleth and Killara had entered the melee and he couldn't afford to blind them. So he reached for one of his metamagic rods and whispered the spell again!

Talivar recognized a haste spell when he saw one. He knew how to dispel magical effects but that was limited to one target at a time. As for elemental effects it was likely the Mantis had protected themselves from cold. Even if not they had an uncanny ability to evade his elemental spells, still there was something he could do... He glanced at Talia, "I have an idea." Talivar whispered a word and a terrible flash of actinic light erupted amongst the Mantis and their summoned creatures from the lower planes.

Talivar glanced at Lork and grimaced, his wounds where eye watering. Trying to hold it together he told the others, "I can warp time for us again, we'll get to Makkatat quicker that way..."

His eyes reached Pixxiv's and he spoke to her gently, "Pixxiv you can barely stand up, I know you want to rescue Makkatat we do too, but please leave the fighting to us! Still you can help greatly, how many of them did you see? What are we dealing with? Assassins? Spell casters? Archers? Does one appear to be in the lead?"

'So they came here at last' he thought, 'Sure took their sweet time about it. I guess we finally kicked the right ant's nest over and they came scurrying out.'
