"Look, this is my first mission, I know you've seen more action than me. Maybe I am being naive, but we're not in some backwater shanty town where the law doesn't matter. We're in Absalom. Murder is no light offense. If we try to use, 'but we're Pathfinders' as a shield against the consequences we make the Society look like a den of thugs. Worse, we're expendable. We're new recruits. What makes you think the Society would back our killing of a law-abiding citizen within its own city walls when, instead, they could simply deny any connection with us, cut their losses, which to the Decemvirate are minimal, and wash their hands of us? And if we did kill this man how would we avoid death or imprisonment once the local authorities learn of the deed?"
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Ah, my bad, no that was never stated. I guess we'll just make that an assumption on Noah's part that if ol'Pildapush really didn't know that the guys that bought her must have.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
"The people that purchased Lady Salhar are the ones who knew who she was. Look, I don't know what you're trying to prove, Ahn, but I know this: we can't complete our mission if we're in jail. Killing this man will see us excommunicated from the Society, you can be sure of that.
All I need now is a rope and a gag, and we can be off."
Not that Noah had lost his respect for Ahnastasios, but there seemed to be a dangerous, personal stake to his thirst for blood. Worse, he worried that his companion was beginning to slip from the path of the Paladin.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Noah was sorely thankful to hear someone with more sense talking. "We can't kill him, Ahn. Even if it might be just, it would directly hinder our mission. If we destroy our own credibility, give innocents as well as the guilty good reason to fear us, and become fugitives from the law in our own hometown, then how can we reasonably expect to continue to serve justice and the greater good in any fashion? We'll tie him and gag him and deal with him later. With the support of the law."
Susanoah stepped forward and grabbed for the much older, much smaller man.

"Would you say you'd rather die than be a slave?" Susanoah asked the slaver angrily.
Also, what happened with the wolf attack? Did a 12 miss an unarmored (seemingly unarmored, I suppose) old dude? If it hit, then I'd expect Pildapush to be prone on the ground with a wolf glowering over him.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Setting the slaves free was probably breaking the law and thus not an action Susanoah was immediately amenable to. That said, he found the practice of buying and selling slaves abhorrent in the first place, which made him more likely than usual to circumvent the law in this particular circumstance.
"There was nothing you could do? Really?" Susanoah was incensed, "Instead of cowering in your office you could have contacted someone. Instead of quivering and planning your way out you could have bought her back yourself; show an ounce of self-sacrifice to fix a problem you helped create. Nothing? Instead of counting your ill-gotten coppers you could have used the coin to do something! The slaves go free or you give us the payment you earned from Lady Salhar's sale. We'll put it to better use, you can count on that."

"You see this blood on my collar? I already got worked over earlier today by some thug with a scimitar and his drugged-out goons," Susanoah was not necessarily well-versed in this sort of thing, but it seemed he would have to give it a try, "I'm in no mood for more games. If you just tell us where she is, we'll be out of your hair. I'm really hoping you don't try to make this harder than it has to be."

"It's a nice place you've got here, Pildapush," Susanoah began politely, but then raised his voice in anger, "For a slave shop that is. I don't take you for an unintelligent man, so, well, the situation we're in... it leaves me wondering. What made you get involved? How did you think you could possibly get away with it?"
He crossed his arms resignedly and shook his head in disgust. Hopefully this business would be over soon and with no further bloodshed.

The man's fear had aroused Noah's suspicions. It wasn't much, but Pildapush had opened his door, and Susanoah intended to glean whatever information he could from the opportunity.
"He was spooked, Sudara, didn't you see?" Noah said, "I think he may have marked us as Society members, and even if he hasn't you can be sure now that he knows exactly why we're here. Could cause trouble."
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Susanoah has gotten fed up with the lack of progress so far and decides to experiment with something no one else seems to have tried thus far. Knocking.
"Pardu Pildapush!" he bangs on the door to his office, "Are you in? My associates and I would like to speak with you about the purchase of some, uh... chattel!"

"Might be she's been moved already," Noah said after the group got their bearings, "It looks like there's no convenient way in. Should we just ask around for chelish women?"
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Susanoah frowned, "I don't doubt some of the slaves did something to deserve being here, but how many of them were brought here in the same manner as our Lady Salhar? And how can the Society turn a blind eye to a place like this set up in its back yard?"
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Susanoah immediately wanted to blurt out the truth, but considering the trouble he'd gotten the group into last time, he decided to wait until another party member led the way this time. He deferred to the "senior Paladin" of the group, Ahn, waiting to see what he would do.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2

"We're in a city that trades in slaves," Noah mentioned to Jenya, "I would not be surprised if these drugs were legal as well. It is wretched, but I'm not going to start telling people what they can and can't do with their coin." He frowned and headed out with the rest toward Misery Row.
Thanks for the healing, Ahn!

"Pardu Pildapush, huh? And what's his story?" Susanoah's boot remained where it was.
And just in case:

"Jenya," Noah began, "I do thank you for the assist. He was trying to kill me. On the other hand, I wasn't trying to kill him. I'm just... I'm not used to violence like this. I wanted to become a Paladin to help people... these big cities... they make everything so much more complicated..." He frowned as the man, Fredrik, struggled underneath him.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
"Ah! Hey!" the young paladin shouts at Fredrik, running to stop him before he... landed face first on the floor... "Stop. We're not here to hurt you. We didn't come here to hurt anybody."
The large human puts his boot on the one-eyed man's back, pinning him to the ground (grapple check?) for the time being.
"Just calm down and talk to us for a few minutes."

My average at the moment is less than 7. Anyway, hopefully, the thug is dealt with before my turn. That seems likely, right?

"I'm no healer, Ahn, I--gods, he's bleeding a lot," Susanoah looked concerned even as he walked deliberately over to the last thug to grab him, [b]"Did you have to shoot him, Jenya?"
If no one else has dealt with the remaining thug before my turn comes up I'll drop my sword and shield and attempt a grapple.

Then I looked at his attack roll and I had a sigh of relief. Barely missed. He's not getting any mercy on my next attack.

Luckily Elo's attack should have missed actually. I was fighting defensively, so my AC would be 19. You are rolling like a champ, though GM!

Crap. Does that mean I wasted my action? Or, well, scimitar guy is charging at me, right? So presuming he doesn't knock me unconscious, can I attack him instead (not that I imagine I'll hit)?

Sudara also readied an attack that he should have gotten against the wolf, right?
Susanoah was keeping his attention on the large Keleshite with the scimitar, when a length of crude wood smashed suddenly into his head out of nowhere. His vision blurred and pain shot through his skull like a blazing spider's web of hairline fractures. It really hurt!
"You hit me with a chair leg!" Susanoah shouted at the thug incredulously. He craned his head back toward Ahnastasios, blood beginning to trickle onto his brow, "He hit me with a chair leg!"
It struck him then, that these thugs were going to kill him if he kept holding back. But if he killed one of them... he would be a murderer. Wouldn't he? He continued fighting defensively, but this time he lashed out in anger with lethal force.
Longsword (lethal; fighting defensively): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Say, how many of these thugs are there? You said "several" earlier, but I'd rather know exact numbers. Position would be great too.
Male Human Paladin 1 (Sword of Valor); HP 12/12; AC 17 (T 10, FF 17); Perc +0; Init +0; Fort +3, Ref +0, Will +2
Well, this just went straight to hell, didn't it? Knocked to half my health by a chair leg. I suppose if I'm killed it'll have been my own fault for drawing a sword.
EDIT: Susanoah's a man, by the way.

Noah made a face at Jenya's threatening remark, somewhere between surprise and worry. "This got out of hand very quickly," he said. Steadying his shield over his left arm, Noah stays where he is, ready and waiting. If things got ugly, and he hoped they wouldn't, he would defend himself with nonlethal force. Don't shoot him, he thinks to himself, Please don't shoot him.
