"Where we're going.. we don't need eyes..."

...and AM I really the only one to get the 'Monster Squad' reference? 'Am I that old?!?'

Liberty's Edge

I'm not sure if you are still recruiting... but I am interested in playing a human, paladin of IOMEDAE.

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm.. I might also be interested....

Liberty's Edge

Male Human {Black American} Monk 1 / Paladin 2 / Bard 1

Working on character sorry for the delay.. get on it as soon as I can post... what's our current character roster?

I don't want to make another Amuro Rey if we have one already... though one of the many ultra-sexy hotties that Char Aznable {Casval Rem Deikun} or {Quattro Bajeena} get's killed might be... interesting. Especially if I can keep her alive! lol!

Liberty's Edge

Sweet.. I'll start making a character immediately.. I'm QUITE familiar with the Gundam universe and MEKTON Z! Run and played a few campaigns of Mekton Z-Plus all the way back to when it was only Mekton II! :)

Liberty's Edge

Ok.. I JUST saw this.. I'm a SOOOO interested in this! Can I join?

Liberty's Edge

I'll be purchasing that Wildcards book today...

Liberty's Edge

Yep. I certainly can commit to that schedule.. once a day.. I'll more likely post three or four times a day if the drama requires so! :)

I own multiple pdfs of MM2nd ed... {and thanks for the link}..will likely purchase that Wildcard Sourcebook in the next two or three weeks.

Liberty's Edge

Not sure what you mean by 'American Hero themed game'... :)
But I'm up for just about anything. Unfortunatly I have had no luck in finding any of the wildcards novels..so my whole source of information on the universe IS the GURPS Supers - WILDCARDS supplement...from which I hear from friends of mine who have read the novels is fairly comprehensive, with one... {ahem} provaso. The sourcebook does not reflect, and I quote: 'How much Kinky Joker Sex occurs in the novels'.

LOLS! Well it IS George R. R. Martin.. so what do you expect {snicker}?

I'd like to play a fire-based, black American... I guess Ace. Sort of like Firestorm.. hmmm that sounds like a good name actually. I don't mind if we go international though. But since I'm an American.. I'm not terribly familiar with far-away-places-with-strange-sounding-names. But a Germany based game might be interesting... of course the Joker Virus broke out in New York so it kinda IS a American superhero game world...sort of considering that's where "Joker-Town" is {shrug}.

Liberty's Edge

This might be interesting... to play in the Wildcards universe....

Liberty's Edge

Is this game still recruiting?

Liberty's Edge

Uhmmm.. Hey isn't Staunton Vhane a Dwarven Anti-paladin of Deskari in the 'Wrath of the Rigteous' AP?

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I'm asking how this is supposed to be ruled...

The Silken Ceremonial from the Ultimate Equipment Guide says this...

Silken Ceremonial = Armor Bonus +1, Max Dex Bonus -, Armor check penalty 0, Arcane spell failure 0%, WT 4lb; Spd 30'ft [30gp]
"Used for ceremonial displays or occasionally worn (albeit with no additional benefit) over heavier armor, these robes consist of several layers of cloth and an outer layer of silk intricately woven with gold brocade designs and covered with metal studs."

The Haramaki from Ultimate Equipment Guide says this...

Haramaki = Armor Bonus +1, Max Dex Bonus -, Armor check penalty 0, Arcane spell failure 0%, WT 1lb; Spd 30'ft [3gp]
"Also called a belly-warmer, a haramaki is a simple silken sash lined with chainmail or articulated metal plates and tied about the stomach to protect it."

Can these two armors be worn together and stack their effects? It seems the Haramaki is "meant" to be worn in combination with other armors as it makes no restriction in its description that says it can't be worn with other armor.. otherwise it is kinda pointless... or at least seems so.

The Silken ceremonial says it does not stack with heavier armor it is worn over.. but wearing it with a Haramaki..which seems by its description to be able to be worn with other armors would seem to be viable.. at least on the surface.

Thematically, ALL the picture depictions of everyone's favorite hottie sorceress the Iconic Seoni is wearing this same combination of adventuring gear.

What's the 'official' position of the game designers on this?

Liberty's Edge

All good points! Thank you!

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, that was my take as well. She was childish in her desire to to be a Queen.. but she WAS smart enough to know.. all she had to do was wait.. as Eodred was very old and she would easily outlive him and the Crimson Throne would have just fallen into her hands by default! I don't think she would have had the courage or self will to plot a 'mostly unnecessary' assassination or even want to wreck the very city whose Throne she coveted so much! Kazavon's control forced/coerced - possession made her do these outrageously destructive things. I'm sure she would NEVER have agreed to make a pact with a Devil to bind an Erinyes to her soul for the price of her soul!! She's from Cheliex.. she KNOWS how such things end! Eternal youth is a tempting thing.. but I think she would have relied upon her Bard magics to maintian her beauty over the year... and personally lacked the long-term forsight to worry over it after all she is still very young.. and Very beautiful! Youthful Appearance is a spell on her bard list.. so its not really a consern for her right now - certainly not important enough for her to risk such a dubious plan when all she need do is wait a few years for all she desires to fall into her hands at Eodred's death.

In your opinion.. would she be at least tacitly and initially grateful for being released from Kazavon's control/possession.. sort of like Togomor?

Liberty's Edge

Got a question... what happens if the paladin just flies up to Ileosa and sunders her crown with Serithiel on the spot?

The question is this... Is it Illeosa doing all this... or was it mostly Kazavon? Yes, the Guide to Korvosa lists her as NE... but is "SHE" guilty for being Mind-Controlled and possessed by Kazavon?

In Forgotten Realms - Lady Laereal was also possessed by the "Crown of Horns" and she did some really evil things while under its control... until Khelben Blackstaff rescued her. Now true.. Laereal was not evil, but should that matter?

Ileosa may be evil but she might not have been the one pulling the strings.

Our Paladin has brought this point up in several discussions... and his 'Heavenly Virtue' Mercy - feat... means he could potentially take her alive.

Any thoughts on this?

Wish I could ask the writers this actually.. fat chance...

Liberty's Edge

Does anyone else HATE the {as far as I can tell} "New" screen displaying text format for the Paizo site? It messes up all my character profiles and make a huge 'block of text' mess!

He moves in and moves to the left of the door away from the large window'?' on the right and will move as far into the room as his movement allows, securing position in a very military assault fashion.

Ashe moves to the square to the right side of the only door exiting the storefront lobby. He motions to Shakhan to move past him to the square opposite his on the left side of the door.
Looking for any obvious hostiles.

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

When in position Ashe will open the door for Shakhan to enter first and follow him in taking a position to his right on the inside of the next room.

Ashe is still detecting for evil, again it is a 60'ft cone as he is doing only a move action with his movement.

I detected for evil, which is my usual policy and procedure with paladins, to see if opponents could be located and number determined.

Una: you can hop over the fence into B6 quite easily, especially if Risdin gives you a hand. To the south stands a roofed shed containing a straw-filled wagon - it is the barred door of this shed that you failed to kick in earlier.

There are a couple of cows and half-a-dozen small pigs here, they all back away from you rather nervously.

Those of you in the shop front cannot see anything more hostile than a few blow-flies.

Results of the detect evil spell

You all move cautiously forwards. Whiteplume opens the door and Shakhan steps through, finding himself in a dark hallway.

Revealing to me 5 evil targets… 4 on the main floor and 1 on the second floor.

One of the evil foes Ashe and Shakhna dispatch almost immediately as he is in the hall we are advancing through hiding on the steps out of line of sight.

Whiteplume and Risdin open their respective doors at exactly the same time. Everyone sees that the floor of this grim chamber is strewn with blood-stained straw, and the reek of slaughter is almost overpowering. The room itself is a killing floor. A metal track affixed to the ceiling dangles meat hooks here and there, allowing the hooks and their gory loads to be moved easily from the northwest where a large hammer sits on the floor amid a permanent bloodstain. To the south, a bloodstained grill covers a wide hole in the floor. Just north of the grill sit two large vats of water; one boiling and one cold. Two large butcher blocks stand to the east next to barrels of salt, and in the southeast corner sits a reeking vat of cast-off meat and bones. (If you have visited an abbatoir, you know how yucky even well-maintained ones are, if you haven't... well, you just cannot imagine it!)

There are three people in here, all engaged - until you burst in from seemingly all sides - in slaughter and butchery. All are in their shirt-sleeves and bloody to the elbows. The remains of two pigs and a cow hang from the hooks and are slowly losing animal form as they become cuts of meat.

Alerted by Whiteplume's shout, the men are not surprised... but the only weapons to hand are butcher tools. They don't look like they are contemplating laying down the cleavers, however...

A short battle breaks out and the party subdues the foes. 4 evil foes downed or subdued.

Then Megan posts…

Hytogg, you hear a voice from upstairs.

"What's going on down there? What's all that row?"

Fellow #1 (near Una) is grumbling a bit but willing to surrender.

So is Fellow #3 (dropped cleaver at Whiteplume's feet).

But Fellow #2 raises his cleaver to take another hack at Shakhan! 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Can you critical with a meat cleaver? Oh well, 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 this fellow cannot!

Damage, 1d4 ⇒ 1 - as Shakhan's declared a readied action, would you take it, please? If you drop him, he didn't hit you...

To me, as a player, that voice must have been the last evil target. But I know not ALL foes are necessarily evil… and hiding is certainly a tactic cutthroats and thieves would use so I post.

And then Risdin's foot squelches on something and looking down he finds that he is standing on a human hand! One that is not attached to the rest of the human being.

Hytogg, things got a bit confused and you weren't certain of a clear shot... whilst magic missiles don't miss, they do travel in straight lines twixt wand and target!

Light comes from the top of the stairs as someone opens a door at the top.

"Can't you buggers work quietly down there?" says a rather angry voice.

Here perhaps I as a player jumped to a conclusion.. that there were people being butchered and sold as meat to the populous, As "personally" I would find that most abhorrent! Megan did not call for a perception roll for us all to see what Risdin had run across.. but I figured Ashe was also searching the room so there was a likely chance he would notice what the paladin of Abadar found.

With that Ashe flicks the tip of his sword tossing the grizzly evidence at the figure...

I expected to have roll for initiative and fight the - likely highest level foe there on the stairs. I expected him to curse that his twisted plot was reveal… that being killing people then giving their flesh away as food for some twisted joke or even more sinester purpose. But, the evident dropping of his weapon convincing him at least of the Korvoasn Officer's desire to not fight at least even if Ashe is not sure he is totally innocent of whatever his men have been doing... Though offering free meat to the public in such times of crisis is a noble and generous deed - not one likely to come from the black-hearted. But, THAT is not for Ashe to decide... it is in the hands of the Korvosan Military Tribunal!

"Very well 'Corporal', a wise choice! Give me your word as a Korvosan Guard Officer that you will not cause trouble, come peacefully and not try to escape... and I'll not do thee the indignity of being bound like a common crook!"

Ashe steps forward with the point of his sword to slide the officer's sword bask with him and warily pick it up to sheath it into his hip quiver with the other confiscated longsword.

Ashe waits his reply.

So I assumed… either his evil was very small or there was another foe upstairs, but HE Vankaskerkin for the moment was not a threat unamred as he was so I felt a detailed investigation of the upstairs would reveal some other foes that was hiding.

Asherick looks at 'Corporal' Vancaskerkin and ponders him closely.

Then his voice softens and his tone becomes admonishing... not harsh or scolding, "Corporal Vancaskerkin, only YOU can decide whether your word of Honor has worth. I'm giving you the chance to prove that worth. Most 'failings' of personal honor and character spring from ourselves letting the importance of our own selfish needs overrule what we already know to be just and true. But, one mistake of judgment need not ruin your entire life! We do not get up one morning and decide we will be honest and just the rest of our lives... it is a constant struggle to walk such a path... full of distractions and temptations to serve ourselves rather than do what is best for our fellow sentient. But you are the author of your actions... YOU can win back your honor... if that is what you truly desire! Do not give up hope in that... for that is what the forces of avarice and wickedness use to start the 'desperate one' down the path to evil and self-destruction."

He nods solemnly to the corporal and gestures kindly for him to pass by him on the stairs down to the main room.
Then Ashe turns to Una and shakes his head in the negative, "I don't think that will be needed, for the Corporal, sniper."

Then Ashe announces, "Shakhan! 'Corporal' Vancaskerkin is on his way down he has surrendered... he is not to be bound. He has given his word to come quietly... place him with the others and watch them all. Paladin Aramak! Would you please begin searching the butchery for the rest of the slain man's corpse? I'm going to search 'Corporal's office and will be right down to assist... momentarily."

Ashe looks over at Hytogg and Una...walking off to 'chat' a curious look on his face thinking, {Now's not really the time for a chat... but...}

Ashe says to them, "Uhm... when you two are done some help searching the upstairs and the rest of the building would be appreciated...?"

With that Asherick, after the 'corporal' is down the stairs, sheaths his longsword and searches the upstairs areas... collecting any papers or valuables he finds.

Perception: Take 10! 10 + 2 = 12

I know Ashe did not have the best of perceptions at the time and Asked for the party to help. Honestly with that perception roll I was expecting to get sneak attacked.

But Megan posted this…

Megan Curse of the Crimson Throne {p.17}:

Megan wrote:

Una: permission granted, you may wish to await your next level-up to switch things around.

Whiteplume, Hytogg & Una: Vancaskerkin looks rather embarrassed as he listens to Whiteplume's speech.

"When the King died and everything went... wild, my girlfriend suggested that I left the Guard and ensured a steady supply of meat to this neighbourhood. I come from a poor background myself, so what she said made sense... and her previous suggestions have always been to my advantage. I honestly don't know anything about any other unpleasantness going on here, if there has been such it was without my knowledge or consent."

He then goes downstairs as directed...

Meanwhile, Hytogg peers round the door, catching a glimpse of a large round table strewn with playing cards and wine bottles, before Una calls him away to share her concerns.

Downstairs, Shakhan's prisoner is rather more interested in checking his, er, bits for damage than anything else, but mumbles "Dunno. Someone as someone else wanted dead. Not my concern, I usta be a butcher afore I joined up, haven't been outta the shop for a while."

Whiteplume then goes to take a look around.

The first room beyond the door (B7) has a round table surrounded by four wooden chairs. A stack of cards sits on the tabletop. A cabinet to the southwest hangs open, a tangle of dirty clothes and blankets within. Four thin bedrolls lie rolled up against the north wall. The windows overlook the street below, and there's one door in the south wall, which is closed.

Updated map

I was even more convinced that Verik was not the source of evil I had detected but was perplexed… where was the evil person?

So I posted this..

Megan Curse of the Crimson Throne {p.17}:

Asherick wrote:

Asherick nods accepting the 'Corporals' tale... mindful to point out the fact to Marshal Kroft to question Verik on his girlfriend's identity, thinking, {... a most persuasive women to make an Officer abandon his post during a time of crisis! Ashe collects the severed hand and wraps it in some of the cloth he uses to bind wounds with as he searches the room. He kicks through the blankets in the cabinet to make sure nothing is concealed under the pile and casually looks under the bedrolls briefly.
Then Asherick... in a moment of 'adventurer paranoia', detects evil scanning the entire room. Turning to the door he also detects evil beyond the door before drawing his sword and opening the door, to search that room as well. Just in case the evil he detected up here... was not Verik!

Megan’s next post confused me or perhaps I did not read it closely enough… either way I got the wrong impression…

Megan Curse of the Crimson Throne {p.17}:

Megan wrote:

Hytogg: Muttering, you draw a card.

Whiteplume: Your detect evil comes up blank, or at least, just the people whom you have already identified.
You go to look in the far room.

Updated map

A single large desk stands in the eastern part of this large office, transformed into a makeshift bed by a bedroll and several blankets and pillows. A table and three chairs sit to the west; several papers lie strewn over the table's surface and a chamberpot sits under it. One of the papers is pinned to the tabletop by an exquisite silver dagger.

I took from what she posted that all the sources of evil I detected were still in their relative positions when I found them the first time I detected evil. Which had me confused as Verik was clearly Not upstairs anymore.

But that is not actually what she was meaning - clearly from the discussion that ensued. I almost wlaked back to detect evil upon Verik directly thinking maybe he was only faintly evil.

As for what she described in the room I felt ‘exquiste Quality dagger meant ‘enchantable’ – possibly so I decided to handle it with caution… something about the dagger being thrust into the table top set off my many years of gaming experience and made me suspicious. I can’t tell you what about it did that.. but it did. Again had it been sheathed and lying on the table or just in some personal gear in the room I don’t think my warning bells would have triggered. It just struck me as… poignant.

I had not been attacked and there were no obvious foes even if I missed their Stealth roll with perception I figured they were not going to attack as clearly we had the upper hand. Plus the party was grumbling about wasting time so I let it go.

I posted this not expecting anything…

Megan Curse of the Crimson Throne {p.17}:

The Ornate Silver dagger stuck in the table top he will examine for its make and smiths mark but not touch it.

Again, 'Pathfinder Adventurer Paranoia', niggles at the back of his mind... he has no way to determine if the dagger is magical... or worse cursed...

Ashe using his sword's edge hooks the crossguard of the dagger on his blade an pries it from the table top then drops it into his hip quiver, detecting evil specifically upon it. All without touching it himself.

Rolling up the papers into a scroll tube Ashe turns to leave the room.

Detect Evil specifically upon the Dagger - MV action for the full 3rd effect.

I had no idea the debate this would provoke. This is what I was thinking at the time. Admittedly, there were assumptions on my part and misinterpetations as well - but there it is..

This was my ooc reply to the matter.

OOC Reply – Daggers, Megan Curse of the Crimson Throne {p.18}:

Megan said that when I scanned outside the room that there were no other sources that I did not detect before. When I entered the room I saw the silver dagger - I was planning on suggesting someone make use of it as a precaution. The Korvosa book tells in the player info section that the Academae {the major wizard's training school} demands its students summon imps as part of their graduation prerequisites, and that FLOCKS of the fiendish creatures stalk the roofs and streets of Korvosa... often fought by the flocks of Pseudo-dragons that hunt them and also roost in the city. I have no idea if that is an issue in the module though. It just seemed a wise precaution that a native of the city would suggest to obvious foreigners to Korvosa - devils need silver to hurt. There is also a hint that lycanthropes may haunt some places in town.

I almost did not choose to detect evil on the dagger at all thinking it a pointless matter... I figured it might be magical, it was described as ornate and that could mean it was masterworked and potentially magical... but evil... that really shocked to me! I've not run into many cursed items before in pathfinder... but thats an assumption it could just have an evil enchantment - like unholy or somesuch. But I began questioning weather Verik was evil at all when he did not react the way I expected... and Megan posted that I detected the same locations of evil as before... but verick was no longer upstairs. I was not sure if that was an oversight or intentional.

I almost detected evil on Verik twice when he surrendered {Asherick looks the man in the eye and ponders his words...; and Asherick looks at 'Corporal' Vancaskerkin and ponders him closely...} as he did not react the way I had expected... I figured if he were the gang leader of murderers he'd have to be fought to be subdued; but decided I'd be wasting time with info Megan had already provided. The evidence was only to force his hand instead risk him trying to bluff his way out {ie 'Darn they know we've killed someone might as well fight my way out...'} sort of, Ashe does not have a good sense motive bonus...yet. At least that was my logic. I hoped he'd surrender but I figured being their leader he would know all about any misdeeds of his men... probably under his orders and Verik would have to be fought.

Fighting him on the stairs would have been a pain only one attacker at a time. Ashe knows he has the best armor so it should be him. Ashe didn't want Shakhan to give up watching the other prisoners him being our other strong fighter. Risdin seems more of a ranged combatant... but I could be wrong about that. Just Ashe's misfortune that no one else has a reach weapon... or seems particularly interested in 'thinking outside the box of their familiarity'. He doesn't hold that against them... after all HE IS the outsider to the group! I'll admit it was a risky thing stepping up to fight the leader alone - as likely he would be tougher than the others... but Ashe hoped Hytogg would heal him as needed to win if/when it turned into a fight. Plus with your crossbow it might have been even easier.

Didn't turn out that way though! lol! So this was my train 'wreak' of thought' lol!

This was the first part of my ‘seemingly’ using out of character knowledge. You can read the rest of the commentary on your own.

The Second case was in the same scene…

Fascinating to see what is going on in everybody's minds! Gives me a lot to live up to, running the game for you. But if you enjoy this 'over the table talk' would you like an OOC thread to indulge in it, so as not to clutter up the game thread?
Right. Hytogg, if you cast a detect magic on the dagger, it shows as somewhat magical but you cannot tell the nature of the enchantment.
Whiteplume, you said you want to detect evil on Verik Vancaskerkin, yes? He registers as not evil.
Those who wish to search the slaughterhouse (B4 on the map) find that it operated thus: animals are killed in the northwest corner of the room after being led in from the holding pens, then hung from hooks and wheeled over the grate to be bled, skinned, and butchered. The blood and the majority of the entrails are allowed to slop through the grate into the pit below. Once the animal is prepared, it is allowed to soak in the boiling water and then the cool water to clean the carcass and slow decay, and is then wheeled over to the blocks to be butchered.
Although pretty icky, it's apparent that the grating in the southwest corner through which animals are bled out can be lifted... and more tellingly, your captives show unease when you investigate that part of the room.

Which said to me that these villains had concealed more of their foul incriminating evidence under the offal grates!

So Ashe went there and checked specifically for evidence.

I remembered as a player in the “The Temple of Elemental Evil”. In the Elemental fire temple… if you did not search under the hot coals in the charcoal pit you missed the powerful magical weapon that was concealed there [sorry for the spoiler].

So anytime a DM asks me that – “The pit is Very messy, Dirty, Foul and Very deep are you going to continue digging in the filth/coals /trash /slime?”
I always say YES! Is that metagameing? Perhaps… I’ll admit. But I prefer to think of it as being a through experienced gamer.

When Ashe found the evidence of more corpses Una assumed Ashe was somehow in cahoots with these villains. As a player I was a bit shocked by this accusation after all we all saw the same post by Megan. But there it is.

Not that I doubt your understanding - blahpers.. you are likely correct {even if annoying not what I wanted to hear :)}... but is there any 'official' discussion thread or ruling on this?

Thx Cevah. Second Question... A character starts out as a wizard and levels takes Witch and the Archetype "Winter Witch". Does that now mean all her wizard fire spells are not available to her? What about items like.. a necklace of fireballs or a wand of fireballs? Fireball is STILL on her wizard list.

Liberty's Edge

Question...

If a character has both Wizard levels and Witch levels how do the familiar's stack which one does the character get? Not two I'd expect...

... I have little to say in this, that has not already been said.

It does not seem it would matter what I post as I seem to have been judged already and my previous posts with my explanations ignored on the whole.

I will thus make an effort to post less detailed and cinematic posts as it seems they are not really wanted by the group on the whole.

I have a long... possibly unnecessarily provocative rebuttal post written to all the accusations placed against my play style and character abilities and actions.

But I think I'll just let it drop in the spirit of peaceful play...

In summary -
I am not flawless in my play. I make no claim to that in the least.
I do not agree with the accusations. My unwillingness to post rebuttals to your claims is NOT agreement.
I have posted reasoned rebuttals in the past backed with facts to support everything my characters do.
My character Ashe does have skill ranks in the skills he makes use of as knowledge sources.
Megan agrees with my posts as they stand - as she has only once chastised a character of mine {not Ashe} for seemingly using information the character did not have ranks in... at that time. Which I explained, and even the information the character provided was wrong... intentionally so on my part. To which I explained to Megan's satisfaction.
The conflicts with the players Una and Hytogg has been more of their making than anything I have done to ruin story or playability. If it was not so.. Megan would have spoken up and made me change my approach.

You don't agree with my views of the game... so trust Megan's view. She has not refuted anything my characters have done. Keep that in mind please. Megan has the complete view of ALL of our actions in the venue of this adventure path something none of us has.. or should have.

I have four times pm'd Megan with the acceptance that if anything I post is out of order to please correct me or if she feels I'm too disruptive to the game she has but to ask me to leave.

Now I place it to you...

If I'm too disruptive to your enjoyment of the game I will leave on your request.

If the tone of this post is curt - I meant it so. I do not play games to argue with people and if I must.. I am not enjoying the game.

That said I will move on with the gameplay.

Ah and there is the downfall of a PbP game it is very hard to know the reasons for s silence from another player! Are they stalling so they don't have to commit to an action, are they busy, is their connection down? So many things could go wrong...

I do, in fact, remember your willingness to do the summoning Damoc and indeed you are totally correct that I just decided to open the door to keep the game moving for we have been int his room with not motion for over a week now so I just decided to do something.. perhaps THAT is a bit out of character for Ashe.

So yes, he jumped to action... and in my post I semi-justified it with him misunderstanding the silence on Damoc's part... not a reflection on you as a player ..but an action to push the story on. Guess I Roger the player failed my patience save/roll/check..lol! :)

Which is part why Ashe made little suggestion as to what to summon as I personally did not think Ashe had access to such specific data on what a wizard could summon he's more familiar with celestials and fiendish creatures of that sort.. most Waay to powerful to call with such a low-level spell.

Honestly, about the history of this game... I don't think its actually something I posted in specifics that annoyed STR Ranger over much.. but I do know from his previous posts that real life is something of a struggle with him right now taking care of his family being under/un-employed. So perhaps just something int he tone of my post struck a nerve on a day he was just feeling down on anyways. I know one thing that is VERY hard to show in PbP is the tone in which a post is perceived. something perfectly reasonable and sane can come of as totally assinine and overly sanctimonious when that was the furthest thing from the posters intention.. and there really is not way to know exactly how a tone of a post could be taken.

Posters like me are the most vulnerable to this as we use lots of flowery and detailed posts that sometimes the possible potential TONES in which a post we make can be taken by a reader can indeed escape us.

And just to show no hard feelings here in this admittedly clumsy medium for communication... if I have offended someone or it seems as if I was trying to offend or push my will on anyone playing in this game I offer my deepest apologies and say I'm sorry!

It is never my intent to do such a thing. I am merely trying to role-play my character to the best way I envision him in my mind

And NO I am not using that as an excuse as I have seen so often done by players to justify doing rude or just annoying things to a party cohesion just to do crap that's controversial or start some conflict.

Such practices are never conducive to the game and usually detrimental or at least highly disruptive.

I too hope STR Ranger stays with us. He has invested a lot of time into his characters... it be a shame to see it wasted.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human {Black American} Monk 1 / Paladin 2 / Bard 1

Um.. STR Ranger, I don't know what elucidated this, but its a forgone conclusion that Ashe... as well as everyone in the party knows that a item must be of the best quality to be enchanted... especially after we have gone through several days to have items we wanted enchanted and have all be planning since the start of the game for several week sin in-game time to enchant things. If you damage its original form it does not take a knowledge arcana roll to know its no longer of the highest possible quality and thusly enchantable or even if you insist on it its like a low DC like 10... which even someone without Knowledge Arcana ranks can indeed do.

I have also established that Ashe is currently training to become a Bard a master of lores and knowledges.. as that will be Ashe's next level in Bard. so he studies a lot of things.. in all my downtime posts about what Ashe is doing the few I have been able to squeeze in I have constantly shown him deep in study and learning.

Ashe does have a rank in Spellcraft... have you looked at the DC to know something about a spell? Its not very high... and as a paladin he would be trained in the knowledge of threats of a divine nature, like glyphs. I have established he has also been through the Pathfinder Training and has ventured quite often on their missions.

You seem to have an issue with my play style where I will indeed strongly advise people in the party.. just because Ashe words his emphatic requests politely enough that it would seem foolish to ignore them is on purpose.. he's lawful. BUT it is all in character! Tam was not nearly as educated at Ashe so he NEVER advized ANYONE on anything magical.. at least not until he started leveling in his summoner class which we never got to in the game. Nothing Ashe does is for ego it for party safety. I don't think its a matter of my post as much as the obvious charm and sane resolvability I placed in all his requests that YES indeed it would seem foolish to ignore them. But NEVER have I as a PLAYER demanded anything Ashe requests be obeyed.

Yes, the paladin with the highest charisma in the party naturally gravitates toward a leadership role.. THATS what they do! I'm not sorry that I play him with a enough charisma that is NOT just a stat on paper but actually role-played that other players tend to follow his warning and requests.

You will note that is not really what Silena does.. she's impatient but she is not trying to lead the party she leaves that to Calian. She has her opinions yes, but she generally goes along with the party. My character Tam from the Second Darkness Game was certainly not a leader fully a support character with his own private mental issues.

So it is not me bullying the party to do anything in particular.. this is just how Ashe the highly motivated and charismatic paladin does things. He is trying to lead by example... none of my other characters have such a mission in life. Ashe is trying to show EVERYONE around him the proper way to do things as he see it in the lawful good way. Would you expect anything less of a paladin?

You must however do what you feel is best for you.. if you are not enjoying a game then it might be best for you to step away from it. I'm really sorry to hear that you want to quit. I hope things in your private life are not adding to your stress and I hope you reconsider or at least find a game you will enjoy.

Peace Man! Best of wishes.

Male Human {Black American} Monk 1 / Paladin 2 / Bard 1

Sorry Megan! Silena could perfectly be wrong about what she thinks they are... at least from her initial observation...they 'Seem' very much like Cloakers to her. She 'may' have seen one being used for sport to torment slaves by her Drow family... or even been menaced by one intentionally by her mother. Silena is very mindful of the things she considers to be the most horrific and threatening... most of which come from the Darklands. So when faced sometimes with unexpected foes... she considers the worse case possibility... which always brings her back to the Darklands threats. I was trying to portray that her time among the Drow 'limited as it was' has traumatized her. Silena tends to see threats around every corner. "A healthy bit of paranioa among Drow is considered a survival instinct". So sometimes Silena will see Darklands threats where there may not be any! Perhaps, I did not pull that off with the right subtlety in my post? My bad. I very much doubt Silena would know the different between a orc or a hobgoblin... or even a hill giant from a ogre... they are wholly outside her experience. On the other side of that coin... Asherick would have NO idea what these creatures might be. They are wholly outside his experience! Though, living in Devil haunted Korvosa... Ashe is quite familiar with the Infernal threats. At least that have presented themselves in Korvosa... and his Pathfinder adventures. It has not come up in RP, as yet... but, Silena has something of the opinion that "If it's not from the Darklands... its not truly dangerous... only annoying!" LOL! But I will make a better effort to stick with game stats and reduce my poetic license in future posts! :) And - truthfully, I have been wrestling with Silena's lack of skills. I'm so use to playing characters that are more knowledgeable. Believe me... when she levels; a rank in Kno: Dungeoneering is in the works to reflect her Darklands backstory! I only had two levels of skill points to spend so some of what I wanted had to wait... like spellcraft {grrr}. Its added frustration that without at least one skill rank in a skill like knowledge you can't even make a roll!

LOLS! Yeah.. hear you Megan! :)

I pondered long and hard what to post in her history and what definitely NOT too. I wanted to convey her terrible background and yet not offend or disgust.

I don't care what the writers at Paizo say... Golarion is NOT PG-13!!!

Zon-Kuthon is NOT a 'Family-Friendly' diety... and the Drow "society"...such as it is {if you would call it a society}.. is more likely rated XXX!

So I will not be making such provocative posts with any regularity to maintain that 'family' environment.

Silena is Lawful Neutral and though she believies in power through pain.. she is not a slavering sadistic pervert... though she does have some..{ahem} questionable pass-times and lets just say "open-minded" intimate interests.

She is NOT a direct opposite of Asherick.. that would be unplayable as the party would eventually want to understandably kill such a freak! But Silena is a dark hero. She will work with others and is VERY solid in her morals that she does not force anyone to submit to her torments... much as Zon-Kuthon did not conquer Nidal.. they submitted to his request and accepted his offer of protection. A protection that has never faltered!

If I have a future post that I think might be questionable.. I'll pm it to you before I post it. It should not happen... but I'll indeed be mindful! :)

Oh and by the way everyone Silena's profile is mostly complete with her history, and appearance.. I'll get to her personality eventually. So feel free to read up on her! :)

[OOC: Wasn't much choice... needed to needle her to see if she would react. She also knows we have told others what we know - The Bishop of Pharasma, the Field Marshal, and the Church of Abadar! With just my report it shows we are resourceful and capable - dangerous. Attempting to Kill us would not be the end of it and right now she does not have that many Grey Maidens yet to make that stick! Attacking us right now would majorly tip her hand... especially when she has better - more subtle tools to use.. like Red Mantis assassins! Plus, Ashe has not made any hints that she is under suspicion! A whole portion of the plan is missing {namely the Red Mantis connection} to jump the gun as it were and try to kill us now would be premature. I also don't think Sabina is in on any scheme the Queen might have hatched. That would be a complication Ileosa could ill afford right now... IF.. if the queen is actually guilty of some wrong doing! :)
Sometimes risk is what we deal in.. its the adventurer's stock and trade!]

I'm not wanting to sound ungrateful, I'm not I really do enjoy this game ... but Megan is their anyway you might be able to give us two posts a day? One post a day really makes the game drag. I'll still post... but I feel it can make interest wane with only one post to respond to.

If I'm wrong about this then its cool ...but we haven't gotten a post from Shakhan in a while ...I'm sure he is still there... but he really has very little to react to for his character... Icabhod as well.

I can chew on scenery with my posts until its destroyed with teeth marks but the other players are not so... eloquent {no insult meant}.. it should not be the Ashe show all the time. When I refrain from posting the game... seems to stall.

Just a request... I know we are ALL busy trying to make ends meet, but a little more motion in the story could respark post interest.

Thanks! :)

- Never kill anyone who does not have it coming!

Things he will Always do:
- Accept a challenge
- Keep His word
- Flirt Shamelessly!

Goals:
- Find out who his parents really are and why he was abandoned
- Find TRUE Love in his life
- Earn Fame, Respect, and Acceptance Among the Aesir {Have Chief Leirik his 'foster-father' call him son.. and claim him as his own}

History -
Found one winter night a toddler child still in his swaddling cloths and a basket, left on the the step of the Aesir chief's longhouse. None could figure out whe left the child there but the wisps of his sun-reddish hair and haunting eerie eyes of emerald bespoke his heritage as vanir a child of Aelf-kind! Reluctantly for not even the great warchief, Leirik Sven's son, wanted to anger the Aelf spirits of the frozen north and their capricious jest, he raised the boy but claimed him not. Noe would speak fo the fact that the child was not found cold but unnaturally warm even int he cold of the deep winter.

As he grew his fiery spirit and quick fleetness made many a Aseir wonder at the boy who they called Aerin... which in Ald tongue meant 'fire-heart'. It was appropriate as the boy seemd blessed by the power of Aedir himself his magic and power seen in the boy's heated glowing sword in battle raid and warmth he could summon even on the coldest of biting nights. So his place among the Aesir was respected if not wholly trusted... him being a mystery and a thing of Eldritch origin.

As with the self same nature of his fiery spirit... Aerin was never satisfied with the simple or routine and wander lust filled his heart. Eventually he left the Aesir and journeyed far as a mercenary to see the world ever the wanderer and explorer hunting great beast in the jungles far to the south in Kush and riding across the vast deserts of
Zamora even hunting the barbarian lands of of the pictish Wilds. Always seeking... what... he did not know but never being content.

Aerin joined King Conan's army as a field chanter and war-minstrel to call out the signals for directing of troops.. for the famous Barbarian king was the stuff of legend and surely there would be action, song, tales of glory and wenches under his banner!

Well... the Guide to Korvosa says on p.31, Pantheon of Many - "...the Pantheon of Many holds within its massive octagonal white-marbled walls shrines to the 17 different deities. Of the twenty main deities of Golarion, only Gorum, Lamasthu, and Rovagug do not have shrines within the pantheon." In the PF Core rules the listed deities for clerics number exactly 20. So I can only assume that there are shrines to Eristil, Iomedae, Torag, Sarenrae, Shelyn, Desna, Cayden Caliean, Abadar, Irori, Gozreh Pharasma, Nethys, Calistra, Asmodeus, Zon-Kuthon, Urgathoa and Norgorber. Groteus is not considered a major religion and not likely represented in the Temple district, at least not at the 'Pantheon of Many'. So if there is a shrine to Groteus in Korvosa.. it a secret one.. and as such acn be anywhere that is dramatically convenient for plot if you wish to visit it for some reason.

I'm sorry to hear your difficulties Megan.

I .. personally have been under-Employed for the last 9 years. No medical coverage, no regular dependable pay and unsure where I was going to get the money for my rent, power and light, gas for my car, car payment, car insurance ...even food. It has only been because of my parents being so supportive that have have managed to keep from being homeless and on the street.

I use to be a programmer for the State of Indiana as a government employee for 7 years making $16.45/hr. I was not rich but I felt comfortable affluent. That was... now 18 years ago. I was young 24 to 25 and indeed I made some mistakes with that job admittedly... but I was I felt conscientious in trying to honestly do the job responsibly and honestly. I was hired to maintain the Registration programs for the state Bureau of Motor vehicles {BMV}. Truthfully {in my opinion} I was only hired to handle the Year 2000 needed changes n the programs and when that was done... they really didn't have any more need for me and the other employees they hired at the same time. I lost that job when I being young and admittedly a little naive saw one of the Senior Anaylst looking at his personal e-mail on his lunch break and reasonably thought it was something we could do. So I started doing the same. I had for the first 3 years of my employment resisted having my cubicle computer having ANY access to the internet. I felt it was a potential distraction that I did not want a risk for misuse. BUT my superiors insisted that every computer in the office have readily available internet access. So I found it ironic that I was fired because of misuse of the internet reported by the IT office automation technicians - who I was quite friendly with. I requested that I be allowed to resign and the managers accepted that.

I found out later that to the person... everyone who was hired in the office in and around the time I was hired was one way of another fired or simply laid-off in the next three months after I was... allowed to 'resign'. The lead Office automation Analyst was fired not two weeks later for he was giving away the old computers that the office was no longer using and going to simply discard in the trash. He was fired for giving those machine to people who needed computers. I know Chung - the senior analyst and I'm pretty sure he reported my misuse and I'm also equally sure he had not expected me to be fired for it. I know he did not see what he was doing as anything wrong for it was his task to see to it all the old machine were completely wiped of any government information before they were discarded and he knew and did his job well. I found out later from a friend of mine unassociated with the BMV that my name appeared in the local newspaper in an article listing people who resigned from the BMV in the offices efforts to improve customer service... as if WE were responsible for the difficulties we were having in upgrading the BMV's 30 year out of date COBOL written, non-integrated data-systems for storing and accessing the vehicle records.

You see that same year a new governor was elected and Mitch Daniels, and so one-way or another everyone in our office was gotten rid of legitimately or not in favor of his people newly hired. It was all political. Even my coworker hired the same day I was Helen, she told me later as we kept contact after I resigned that one day she came to work and her computer was locked and she was not allowed to sign on. she had done nothing and they just fired her flatly... and not only that black-balled her from returning to government work with the state! There was no reason given no hearing scheduled to explain why she was simply told by the HR that she was no longer needed and was escorted from the building. Even though we had both worked for the state diligently for 7 years. Hellen was fired 4 months after I was allowed to resign. I only learned this facct some two years after the fact as I felt a little guilty for not calling Helen sooner and I learned all this. In fact the Senior programmer who I had {VERY RELUCTANTLY} reported seeing reading personal e-mails [in fact I had seen almost ALL the senior analysts doing the same but I did not reveal that for I saw it as a witch hunt as they all did good work diligent work and I wanted no part of pointing blame] which gave me the impetus that it was an ok practice to read personal e-mail on lunch break - Helen told me he was sited for the same but was not fired only suspended from work for three days.

Now - My point with all this...

I spent the next 9 years looking for work that would give me a similar pay and was completely unsuccessful. It was a big shock to a young man to go from making so much to minimum wage jobs $7.25/hr. I burned through all my savings and worked as a substitute teacher until the policy changed made it more and more difficult to get regular work daily. I've worked briefly as a computer manufacturer {really more warehouse work - with GRUELING hours for VERY low pay...certainly not enough}, I've worked as maintenance manager for McDonalds {again for more reasonable hours but just not enough pay.. as they refused to pay me the proper wage for the job I did.. should have been about $9.25/hr but the managers insisted in only paying minimum wage - EVEN when they had told me when I accepted the job there would be a significant raise in pay commensurate with the increased responsibilities of the job}. Finally even a job at Kroger's shuffling produce again.. for minimum wage with low hours!

It was not that I did not want to work - I had worked a regular 8AM to 4:30 PM job for 7 years with the state... it was just work was not available! This lasted for 9 years!

It was quite a blow to my self image to suddenly after taking care of myself for so long to no longer to be able to keep a roof over my head or food on my table! I was deeply depressed.

So I know what your going through and the deep amount of frustration you must be feeling over the situation.

I encourage you to do not give up hope. Keep trying, keep praying for support from god, he knows you need a means of taking care of yourself and your family... he will not let you fall. As long as you live by his principles and in line with his purpose.

I have just this week been blessed with a new job that is a schedule I can maintain weekdays for $9.25/hr and regular hours. I'm finally gainfully employed after all this time. I have been praying for such for years and have been answered.

I know to some that are of less religious persuasion it may not seem like much. But to those of faith remember, MATTHEW 6:25 to 34...

"On this account I say to you; stop being anxious about your souls as to what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your bodies as to what you will wear. Does not the soul mean more than food and the body more than clothing? Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are? Who of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his life span? Also, on the matter of clothing, why are you anxious? Take lesson from the lilies of the field, how they are growing; they do not toil, nor do they spin; but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. If, now God thus clothes the vegetation of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much rather cloth you, you with little faith? So never be anxious and say, 'What are we to eat?' or, 'What are we to drink?' or, 'What are we to put on?' For all these things the nations are eagerly pursuing. For your heavenly father knows you need all these things.
Keep on seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to you. So, never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Sufficient for each day is its own badness."

Do not give up hope. :)

Wand of mass fly!

Riffle scrolls are a booklet. I don't see them doing much better underwater.
I would be careful about taking anything valuable and heavy. You may need to drop it if things don't go well. I will not be taking my armor.

True, Riffle scrolls ARE a chapbook {a little smaller... but the real reason is that is it classified as a 'Wondrous Item' and as such... mere water will not spoil its usefulness. As for Armor... don't be hasty in that. If we can breath water we can fight albeit with some penalty wearing a lighter armor would be prudent. Ashe bought an Armored Coat that he keeps available just for such purposes as travel as sea or to have near him in camp at night when adventuring as is can be donned and removed as a move action.

And I'm right with you in that Varrel... What Ashe needs is a +1 Weapon so his Class ability: Weapon Bond, becomes something actually flexible! But I might suggest a Wand of Magic Missiles {Hytogg took the one we had}, 7x potions of cure light wounds {with two clerics we are pretty set on healing}, perhaps a ring of swimming?

Good grief Megs! I'm really sorry about that... what an absolutely pin-headed and disloyal thing to do to someone. My prayers and best of wishes in finding more employment!

There is truly something broken in the since of duty and common decency in people these days...

He seems disappointed to see Ethaniel retiring, pacing over to the bar as Samaritha closes up. "Water, if you please my dear. It's going to be a long night." he cuts Tam a smile. "It's been a long day. But perhaps you could regale me with a tale? You've spoken much of your father, but I know not where you come from." he says, with a smile. "Would you share it with me?"

I'm uncertain what to reply to as I have not had my post per' se answered. Did the elven woman heal Tam and or did Tam go to his room to be cared for by Samaritha and company? How much was Tam healed?

Still waiting on DM_Waife.

:)

When I started playing THIS AP 'Organized Play' Asherick was only 8th level. And when I learned there was a specific Adventure path in Ashe's home city I REALLY wanted to play it bu no one in my home city had it to run.

LOL! Please take not offense at my words meant in jest.. they were not a chastisement of you DM_Waife! I realize that sometimes one must wait quietly for the lime-light as it were. The main story plots take precedence especially since this, encounter-plot has been building for sometime. :)

EDIT: Wow.. that's odd! Why does this forum change words sometimes in your posts?

"The Sins of the Father ARE the burdens of his sons!"...

I distinctly remember tying are not of... strange. Maybe I'm typing too fast?

LOL! Yeah... I get the feeling - yon elf maide... ...er 'Lady of Passions' likes herself a bit of mingled elf-blood every-so-often! Elven women ARE a little more petite than human women. Half-elven men ARE a little... er more 'robustly built' than elven men! LOLS!
