Wrath of the Righteous, on Roll20

Recruitment

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Looking for 1-3 characters to round out a group (I already have 3 players with guaranteed spots). Come slay demons, rescue innocents and sever the Abyss from Golarion!

Playing Mondays, with an 12:30 PM (Mountain Time) start time. Style is roleplaying heavy. I communicate via typing, but don't mind if players want to use voice chat (though I will mute or leave it if it's filled with profanity or vulgarity). We can start as soon as next week.

One player will be bringing a half-elven alchemist (Touched by Divinity - Desna). Characters will level by campaign progress.

Stat generation via rolling 4d6 (drop the lowest), take 1 campaign trait and 1 free trait. No evil characters. No 3 PP content, nor OA. Certain abilities may be vetoed if they conflict with backstory or would break the game. Planning to use Mythic rules. Crafting is allowed, and even hastened by house rules, so long as the gear is crafted for use rather than sale. Background skills are also allowed (2 ranks/level)

Please give me a basic backstory, including how long they've lived near the Worldwound and why, and a few character likes/dislikes along with the statblock. (though I'm happy to help you flesh out details if you're unsure of the setting's Lore.)

do you have an estimated end time for most sessions?

We tend to go a good 3 hours or so. Usually we end when people have to go.

I'll throw my hat in. I've been wanting to get back into a VTT game.

Truly the dice gods have smiled upon me. I shall come up with something presently.

I look forward to seeing what you want to bring, Xain.

Any word on what others are playing? I'm thinking an archery combat style Slayer with the Chance Encounter campaign trait, multi-classing into Inquisitor(Sanctified Slayer) of Desna later, which will continue to progress Studied Target (and SA) bonuses. Should provide nice ranged DPS and a good number of skill points. I can also grab trapfinding later if the party needs it or leave it to someone else. But I can change to fill another party role if needed. Also how are we doing starting gold? I prefer to take max or average over rolling myself.

Proposed character so far:

https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1282550

Grand Lodge

As mentioned, one will be the half-elf alchemist, a second is thinking halfling barbarian (Big Game Hunter), and the third guaranteed slot is thinking paladin.

For starting gold, you can roll or take the average as you choose.

With a Shoanti, you should consider what brought him all the way from Varisia... or why he'd be from elsewhere. I'd be happy to help you pick a Quah if you're unfamiliar with them.

Incidently, it looks like you've overspent your skill ranks by 1. Since you put inquisitor rather than slayer as your favored class.

Here's my roll for wealth for paladin.

Mun: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 1, 4) = 16 = 160gp

so 12:30 mst is about 1930 gmt+2, 3 hours game time? i can do that

So ill dot in

Sweet doesn't look like my idea would be stepping on any toes then.

Average it is, archery can be an expensive hobby but I've managed to kit him out pretty well with that. I'd hate to roll low now and have to nerf the starting equipment I've already picked out. (Unless of course I'm allowed to roll first and then decide.)

I've added a background to the character sheet (under Additional Information) that I think reasonably explains what brought him to Kenabres. Lyrune-Quah seems like a good choice thematically for an archer.

Slayer 6 skill points + 2 background skills + 1 for being human (probably the one you forgot) = 9 unless I'm mistaken.

Grand Lodge

You're right, i did forget the one for being human. My apologies.

Btw, "Desna worshipers" are known as "Desnans."
Do I understand the timeline correctly that Nightwolf was born in Kenebras, snuck out to have his Chance Encounter when he was 6 or 7, left for the ancestral homeland at the age of 8 (a journey of over a thousand miles, if going the most direct route through very unsafe lands, which works out to a little over a month, if they were on foot, or 25 days if they had horses)and is now returning to the home of his childhood? Is he an only child, as lack of mention of siblings implies?

4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 6) = 20 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 5) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 6) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 2) = 7 6
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 3) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 5) = 19 16

That 6... oh well

The good news is that reaching level 20 as Mythic, you'll have plenty of opportunity to overcome that.

What races are allowed?

I'm fairly open to races from the ARG, so long as there's a good reason for them to be in the area. Exceptions which are disallowed are the drow, orcs, goblinoid, and kobolds,(or traditional "villain races" if that description helps you more.)

Okay. Will have a look at my options in the morning =^^=

Thanks for that, I do get all my information on Golarion from the interwebz, so sometimes it's incomplete or I miss something.

Sounds about right, though when you put it like that 6 or 7 sounds a little young to be 'The' rite of passage I've read about in Shoanti entries. I've always pictured those as more around early to mid-teens. Possibly/likely he would have also participated in a more traditional rite marking the transition to adulthood some years after returning to the ancestral homeland. Presumably Shoanti actually go through multiple rites throughout their youth and even into old age and each individual is different. I think I read somewhere that the traditional Moon Clan coming of age rite involved navigating through a dark cave, though I don't know how canon that is. I could certainly add that if you like.

Presumably they wouldn't have taken the 'most' direct route (i.e. through the Worldwound or the more dangerous parts of the Hold of Belkzen, though some Shoanti do inhabit the Hold so they likely wouldn't have avoided it altogether either.) Even if the journey took well over a month it isn't a big deal to me. I thought about mentioning siblings but hadn't decided one way or the other. He may or may not have younger brothers and/or sisters, he is certainly the eldest though. I don't like to include too much background at first. I think of it more like a TV show, we know enough about the characters to enjoy it but we learn other details only if/when they come up. Again though I'll add as many details as you want. I'll write a novel if you like.

I am not expecting you to write a novel. I don't need details on all the rites of passage or daily activities growing up. I can appreciate your approach and what you have thus far seems like a nice start. I mostly made my points and asked my questions in an attempt to help spark your creative process. The same goes for the below. No need to answer if you don't want to decide right off.

Judging by his skill points, it looks like he's a studious young man. Does he spend most of his time in libraries when he's in the big city? Or does he dislike books as a means of learning?

Thinking of going cavalier

Would you be open to centaur or other taur like races?

Monies: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 4, 5) = 26 260 :)

darn, if i could have rerolled my 6 i would have gotten 17 :(

I believe you would be extremely frustrated if you tried to go with a tauric race, and as those have racial HD and CRs that are above 1/2 at level 1, they are inappropriate for player characters.

okay, no problem. Whats the RP limit you are thinking of?

Seth, It looks like an interesting concept, but I would like to see the backstory that justifies the Varisian having a shissah, when "Few leave the hands of Keleshite owners," and then being in Mendev with it.

Also, one of your two traits is supposed to be a campaign trait, which does tie into the story of the campaign. Neither of those in Zullion's statblock is.

I see you've picked Child of the Crusades. Does this mean his ancestors fought in the first few Crusades and then returned to Quadira? Is he coming to carry on that tradition, then?

Did you have a particular dragon in mind whose blood he shares with the other trait?

Yes, they did. will get a proper story together

There happens to be a silver dragon that lives in Kenabres named Terendelev that you could be related to. Would help tie you more strongly to the campaign.

Thats awesome =^^=

Could also be why the folks fought in the war.

Zullion Background:

Zullion's parents were barren, no child came to them. And eventually, giving up hope to ever bare a child, and not wishing to stay where other's had children, the joined the Crusades. Wishing to spend the remaining days with each other in the heat of battle.

During this time they gained favour with a dragon called Terendelev. During the end of the Crusade they were in, the dragon gave them a boon. The woman will bare a child. And they should return to their lands to raise the child. With delight and awe they did. Even with the vow that the child should too join the Dragon if there ever was a need of him when he was of age.

When the child was born, a trace of the Dragon's power was evendent from the moment of Zullion's birth, a strand of silver ran through his black hair. His parent's decided to never cut his hair, in reverence to Terendelev.

His father trained him in the ways of their tribe, but always reminded him of his birth right, and his oath to the great Dragon.

So finally, the day came he was called to aid. It was a hard day, tearful. But they all knew it would come, and they were prepared. With his father's horse, and his mother's blessing. He set out towards the World Wound in service of the Dragon

In regards to how long, he is still fresh to the front. Part of new reinforcements

As a keleshite, wouldn't a scimitar be better suited? And I'd recommend investing in cold iron, knowing you're heading to the worldwound and all.

A rapier is a very elegant weapon on foot. But scimitars, sabers, and other curved blades have historically worked far better from horseback, where once the melee is joined, slashes tend to be more practical than thrusts. Of course, it's your character, and if as a new recruit he's planning to use just the lance whenever he's on horseback, reverting to the rapier on foot... that can be his thought process.

As GM suggests then, will switch weapons. otherwise? all good now, including backstory?

Edit: Dropped bow for material change of weapons

To invite players to the ROll20 campaign, I need either email addresses, or for you to be here while I am logged into it, as I can share a link that is good only so long as I remain logged in. We do have a Skype channel for the campaign, if you would like to join that.

I Pm'd my email. And i would like to join the char channel

Seth, is your email your Skype handle? Because I think I need to know that to invite you there.

Grand Lodge

As a reminder, start time is set for tomorrow at 12:30 Mountain. If you get there a few minutes early, we can set up tokens and get started with the story.

Judging by his skill points, it looks like he's a studious young man. Does he spend most of his time in libraries when he's in the big city? Or does he dislike books as a means of learning?

From an OOC standpoint I usually drop a point in most of the "trained only" skills early on as I dislike not being able to at least attempt a check.

From an IC standpoint Nightwolf respects knowledge in all its forms but believes experience is often the best teacher. It may be some time before I get around to spending more than one point in any single knowledge skill but he has or will gain several other abilities that reflect this attitude including: an expanded class skill list once he multi-classes, Monster Lore, increases in Wis and Int (likely at 8th and 12th respectively and possibly an increase in Wis from mythic Tiers), and of course one of his key abilities is called "Studied Target" and applies increasing bonuses to Knowledge checks vs. his current target(s) as he advances but RAW he still can't use those bonuses on Knowledge checks until trained in the appropriate skill.

I responded to your PM with email/Skype. I'm rarely on skype unless I have reason to be (read usually only during games). My preference is usually for chat over voice, especially for IC conversation but I may use voice as well, again more likely for OOC. Regarding tokens I'll be there early but is there anything else I/we can do to prepare in advance? i.e. certain dimensions you prefer for images. Can we import tokens? I've used Roll20 a little but it's been a while, most of my previous VTT experience comes from MapTool.

I've sent you game and Skype links... we can actually discuss these things in either. I also vastly prefer typing to voice chats, hence the style under which I'm running the game. You can import your own token onto your own character sheet (I then link it to display your health and set vision parameters so it's easy to copy to other maps). Due to the grid system, tokens work best if they are square or circular, though reaching those dimensions with transparent space also works just fine.

Liberty's Edge

I'm not sure if you are still recruiting... but I am interested in playing a human, paladin of IOMEDAE.

Grand Lodge

We actually recently had a spot open up due to schedule shifts, if someone would still like to join us. The party is currently level 3, in the streets of Kenabres.
