"I am glad we did not have to fight the dragon... but I am almost as worried about whom he is going to report back to. I don't think that it is safe for us to rest here, any more..."

He nods as he listens to Bastian.

"Agreed. Going to the underground city is our next best step..."

"May his tortured spirit at last find peace..."

He then sighs.

"I suppose we will now have to make a little sortie into the Down Below... I would suggest resting, but not in this place; I doubt that we would manage to get adequate sleep in these unholy halls. Perhaps up under the stars?"

Suetonius holds his holy symbol tight; the darkness all around him is absolute, and he can feel the old insecurities rising, and fear starts to get a grip on him...

...but then he feels the light touch of Arha's wing on his cheek, as she nuzzles him with her proboscis.

That gives him the merest sliver of hope, helping him to swallow his discomfort, and focus on the task at hand.

"There may be darkness, but it is not absolute... Black Butterfly will provide..."

He then casts Brightest Light.

"I am afraid that Black Butterfly has not granted me the required magic to restore sight today, but I can certainly pray for it for tomorrow..."

Suetonius draws a deep, shuddering breath, then stands up, and adjusts across to threaten the shade.

"Your time is long gone. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. You are the memory of a memory, screaming at the dark. Be at peace."

Hey, sorry guys - no posts were showing up as 'new' on my home page (in the discussion thread, at least), and with nothing happening in the Gameplay thread, I assumed that this game was on hiatus :-/

I am definitely still interested in continuing :-)

Suetonius, still clutching his flank where it was pierced by the weapon, calmly glares at the spirit.

"All I see is a dead thing, that does not realise its time has passed..."

Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18.

He then casts a spell.

Ancestral Gift.

Motes of starlight appear out of thin air, then circle inward in a whirlpool of light, forming a glowing, ghostly outline of a tall man with butterfly wings, grasping a large, hafted weapon, which he hands to Suetonius.

As he does so, the weapon takes on corporeal form.

+1 Ghost Touch Lucerne Hammer. This has reach, and I intend to use it!

Suetonius then bows.

"Thank-you, Ancient One."

The form nods, then wavers, and disappears.

Suetonius then turns to regard the homicidal spirit.

"I am not afraid!"

I will, of course, attempt to disarm the spirit if it comes at me again.

"Perhaps there is a secret trapdoor within the sarcophagus, or at the very least, a hidden compartment...?"

"Well," Suetonius notes dryly, "we seem to be getting warmer... although by the state of the room, I dare say the ones that we are after made quite a mess..."

He then looks around.

"Agreed. Let's avoid the statue room if we can."

"Regardless of whether or not we push on, in the morning, I will fully restore your strength. That said, I am happy to push on, as long as the rest of you are. I may not be a mighty barbarian," he says with a soft grin, "but I will do my best to aid you."

"I am afraid that I have already used up my ability to heal that sort of damage today; but in the morning, I can prepare Restorations, if Black Butterfly is willing..."

Unwilling to abandon his compatriots, Suetonius gently touches Arha, feeling the soothing calm that he associates with Black Butterfly suffusing him.

"These abominations cannot be allowed to continue to exist!"

Steeling his resolve, he strides forward, ready to render aid to Lydia.

"I don't suppose that these ones won't animate, and try to kill us...?"

"That seems wise, Lesska; there is no need to risk being cursed, by those who are long gone... That said, I agree with Bastian that it is probably worth looking for secret doors that we might have missed."

He then shudders, drawing his cloak tighter around him as he does so.

"Also, I don't want to stay in this place any longer than I absolutely have to... it feels wrong, somehow, in a way that I just can't quite put my finger upon..."

"Why did they trap you here, rather than simply killing you? Doing so required more than minimal effort, suggesting that they were particularly annoyed...?"

Nevertheless, Suetonius tightens his grip on his staff, just in case tapping the wall provokes a vigorous response.

@Lesska: I am guessing that it is because he is resolving all of the 'Surprise Round' attacks first, but not all of them had been posted.

After they have been resolved, he will move on to the others.

@GM: Re: Miss Chances, though, does having Low Light Vision help mitigate that problem?

@Lydia: That isn't how ability damage works in Pathfinder (although it was in 3.5).

Ability Damage wrote:

For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability. If the amount of ability damage you have taken equals or exceeds your ability score, you immediately fall unconscious until the damage is less than your ability score. The only exception to this is your Constitution score. If the damage to your Constitution is equal to or greater than your Constitution score, you die. Unless otherwise noted, damage to your ability scores is healed at the rate of 1 per day to each ability score that has been damaged. Ability damage can be healed through the use of spells, such as lesser restoration.

Constitution: Damage to your Constitution score causes you to take penalties on your Fortitude saving throws. In addition, multiply your total Hit Dice by this penalty and subtract that amount from your current and total hit points. Lost hit points are restored when the damage to your Constitution is healed. A character with a Constitution score of 0 is dead.

So, technically, you currently suffer *no* penalty :-)

Suetonius looks on in wonder, as the newly-minted butterfly stretches its wings, and then soars off into the darkness.

"Thank-you, my Lady!"

He then sighs, feeling suddenly at peace, despite the ominous nature of his surroundings.

Nodding to Aiyana, he adds:

"They were some kind of shadowy undead. I am just glad that we reacted so swiftly and decisively - that could have been extremely unpleasant..."

He then gestures towards the tomb.

"Shall we continue? If that was the welcome committee, I dare say that there will be worse horrors awaiting us inside..."

Suetonius, stoically, accepts the damage, and once again channels the energy of the stars through his staff.

Suetonius frowns, as he tries to determine what, precisely, these creatures are.

If they are shadows:
Suetonius strides forward, and holds up his Lantern Staff, causing it to emanate a pale cloud of starlight, which tears at the Shadows' insubstantial bodies.

"By the Grace of Black Butterfly, begone!"

Channel Positive Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 4) = 18 damage, DC 17 Will for half.

Suetonius nods gravely.

"I can help hold the line in melee, if necessary, although not to the extent of a dedicated barbarian; but thanks to the grace of Desna's Shadow, I can provide support in the form of some healing, some restoratives, and various blessings in combat."

He then smiles wryly.

"I also have the ability to create a light, which will shine brightly in places where all other lights would go out. Beyond that, I have some small skill at noticing things - whether it be hidden objects, or hidden emotions."

Well, for what it is worth, I already have Brightest Light prepared as one of my spells - it seemed thematically appropriate, for a Cleric fighting against the Court ;-)

Of course, it *is* also a quite useful spell!
