Much thanks GM. Yeah I was admiring how short some numbers were at the end of my last game. I never played PFS and I only just started SFS early this year. I do have a copy of the welcome boon, though I've never had a GM sign off on it. I did slot Digital Presence for this scenario so I should get an extra fame and rep with the Dataphiles.

Stewart continues trying to buy time on the detonator while the others work on disarming the explosives. Unfortunately the same trick fails to fool the sensors a second time. "Uh guys, you might want to hurry, the timer is counting down."

Engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

I don't think the body counts as an explosive, only the detonator.

Stewart called over the comms, "It's a dead man's switch! I'll try to delay it. There were 5 explosives in total. Make sure you find them all. Theshe, Azara, you should help search. Nicknick, stay close in case I need help keeping this thing from going off."

Stewart moved next to Nicknick to block the hallway and fired his pistol but missed the agile assassin.

Stewart ran for the closest door to the southern hall then switched to a more stealthy pace just before moving through the door.

I think it's because defusing the bomb last round took part of this round as well. Help me out with a move action Perception. Maybe you'll get lucky, the RNG certainly doesn't like me lately.

With the other team engaging the assassin, Stewart gave up on subtlety and began searching for the explosives in earnest.

"Nothing yet, my search is hampered by the need to be discrete. The sooner you engage our guest the better." Stewart replied over the comms as he moved between tables, still mingling with guests.

"The opposite really. If I start 'unwrapping' 'gifts' while our 'honored guest' is watching I'm likely to get a face full of explodium."

Stewart looked around the room for anything suspicious while lightly mingling with the guests in an effort to maintain casual appearances.

"But you have to catch the assassin alive. She must get a right trial."

Stewart tried to blend in with the crowd while looking around the room.

Stewart confers with the others on the lift. "I vote we handle this ourselves. The Society needs to send a message, that we can protect our own. We've done well so far, it'd be a shame to share the credit for our hard work now." OoC I want whatever benifits come with doing this ourselves on my chronicle sheet. "If we do tackle this ourselves I volunteer to be on the bomb squad. I suggest one other accompany me." So we can benefit from aid another. "The rest should confront the assassin. Remember the bomb squad will need to locate and disarm the explosives without being noticed," I read that as Perception and Engineering (or high physical damage output) and possibly Stealth or Bluff. A good Reflex might save a life here too."The other team will need to prevent her from detonating them." AKA kill her quick. Reading the message from Naiaj, "We should each take one. Don't hesitate to use them on yourself or an injured teammate."

"Perhaps the assassin is taking a belt and suspenders approach to her craft. I always prefer to have a plan B. Regardless you're correct, we should hurry back." Stewart agreed as they rushed back to the lifts. "Radaszam, come in." He responded over the comm. "We have located evidence that our assassin is likely disguised as a curly haired woman, sending the file now," he said tapping a button to upload the photos from the pad, "though her real appearance may be reptilian. She was spotted earlier posing as an A/V tech. Extreme caution advised, high probability of explosives on the premises. We're on our way now."

Looks like I'm the primary on this thing.
Stewart accepts the datapad from the android and begins tapping on the interface. "Let's bypass the the primary OS and try accessaccessing the root... good" Will let the GM add aid bonuses.

When they are done with the computer Stewart pulls out a medkit. "This time I will assist you. Your +8 is better than my +7.

Finally when they are done tending to Azara's wounds Stewart will have a look around the rest of the room.

"Explosives. Our assassin's method of choice? And what a strange collection of hygiene items, scalesheen oil and curly hair cream? I doubt the scalesheen was for the electrovores. Not many reptilian species have hair. A vesk with hair plugs?"

Stewart avoids a second electrical discharge without affecting his swing this time and slashes at the nearest creature.
If red is down he will move to the square NW of orange.

If you look closely at the map I drew the shape, but it is difficult to see. The thing you need to keep in mind though is the intersection at the center of the radius in this case is right next to the wall, so it is only a semi-circle. It does encompass Azara's current location, but unless I am mistaken he moved to that square after the grenade was thrown.

Aiming to only hit the creatures. I think I can but correct me if I can't.

You can def hit both creatures. I tired to draw what it would look like on the map, but it is a bit difficult to see. Since you threw it before Aazra moved you can do it without hitting us.

Not that it matters if I can't hit anything.

Just a small favor to ask if you go in melee and you have a choice please try to attack from an angle that does is not in the way of those having range weapon ;)

If that was directed at me I apologize, I'm usually a ranged character myself so I should know better, but because of that I'm not used to thinking about positioning that way in melee myself. Dang immunity.

"Frell, I guess it's knife work then." Stewart exclaimed realizing his arc pistol was useless against these creatures. He tapped a button on his wrist comm activating a computerized distraction and moved in to slash at the nearest electrovore.

"Better check the back door too." He says inspecting that panel as well. Then he pulls a set of engineering tools out of his pack and goes to work on the trap(s) and locks with Kai's help. "I'll disable the primary EPS connection while you reboot the... good you know what you're doing." When done he puts his tools away, draws both weapons again, and signals he is ready at the front door.

I think that during this game we should not get 20. That is due to lack of time. The party is happening now and assassin has the contract to make the kill. Taking 20 assumes that you have sufficient time to try a sufficient amount of time to get the best result. Given that attack can happen any time we would be more rushing ahead and checking the address along the way instead of taking our time while drinking a coffee ;) IMO

Take 20 on Recall Knowledge takes 2 minutes with access to an infosphere according to the rules. GM said it was okay in this case but a good trick to remember whenever any GM asks for Recall Knowledge.

Ah, missed that about the DCs, that's fair I guess. I honestly hadn't looked at grenades too closely since they aren't operative weapons. Trick Attack!

"Looks like Theshe, Kai, and Nicknick have volunteered to cover the back door. That leaves Azara, Hellih, and myself to cover the front. We go in at the same time." Stewart signals telepathically. He approaches the door quietly, pistol drawn, and checks again for traps and a lock. Then if nothing is found, he draws his knife in the other hand and waits for everyone to get into position.

Grenades attack rolls are with strength? If so I'll take them.

Waiting for the others to signal the approach Theshe asks over group comms:

"How quiet are we approaching? I want to walk up and kick in the door already, throwing a grenade as I do so.
Are there any other entrances to this place? "

I'm all for kick in the door, as soon as we make sure the door isn't going to kick back. It does look like there might be a back door on the map, and it might be a good idea to have someone (or two) cover it. Grenades are thrown weapons so yes to the strength modifier. (A change from PF I'm not sure I exactly agree with but there it is.)

Two nat 20s in a row! Who wants to bet I won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn during combat now.

I prefer to take 20 using an information network as per the rules on recall knowledge if possible, however I will put rolls here in case that is not allowed.

As to the provided equipment, I am not proficient with either grenades or long arms, but someone should definitely take the grenades, and don't be afraid to use them. Remember there is little advantage to being stingy with consumables earned during the scenario in Society games.

Course we did, we're a crack team of Starfinders, was there ever any doubt? ...okay maybe I had some doubt we would get them all for a few rounds.

With the VIPs sufficiently impressed, Stewart returned to speaking with Iteration-177 as promised. He really did want to regale the android with tales of his adventures. At least until the faction leader motioned him over.

"Investigate the rumors, defeat the assassin, don't let the First Seeker or any of the guests get hurt, oh and try to do it with flare and without getting killed ourselves. Got it boss, sounds like a plan. I was just starting to like this fancy dinner stuff but I suppose all missions can't be like that. This smells more like the Society gigs I've been on before. This isn't the first time they've sent me to track down a dangerous criminal you know, always got my man too. Course they never go quiet like. Someone has to do the dangerous work I suppose, I hope the lawyer won't be too disappointed." Stewart said still somewhat in a tale telling mood after all that talk.

"Anyway, got any advice on how we should start our investigation? What do we know about this assassin?"

That's what you get for dealing with undead.

I think we may have got them all with Kai yet to act. Zo! is probably the most iffy with the penalty for multiple attempts, if Kai wants to focus his energies there with an independent acro roll (no penalties there yet) or an aid another on athletics.

I realize we're waiting on Theshe for Round 5 but I'm going to go ahead and post my turn for Round 6. I was going to do Sense Motive again but after reviewing Ykris's responses I'm pretty confident we should be talking to him about biotech, which I'm betting is Life Science and/or Medicine even if it hasn't been confirmed OoC. Hellih tried Medicine, so I'm going to try Life Science.

Assuming Azara just got a success with Royo we should need one more with him using Physical Science, Culture, Mysticism, or certain Professions, and we still need one more with Zo! using Acrobatics, Athletics, or Attack.

While Azara talked to Royo, Stewart took the opportunity to slip away and return to Ykris. "You know CeriCore might be interested in studying some of the more interesting lifeforms we've encountered. I've personally encountered two very different species on separate planets capable of reflecting laser fire back at the attacker. Learning how they do this might lead to the development of augmentations with similar capabilities. I'm something of an amateur scientist myself and had the opportunity to study the hide of one of these creatures. From my initial observations I believe the key may have been..." Stewart continues with some technical details on how the cellular structure of the creature's outer scales produced a reflective surface.

I think my mobile browser's data saving mode has been a little over aggressive today, either that or paizo boards are slow to update. I checked Stewart's Campaign tab a couple times today expecting to see (new) if there were updates but it wasn't until I checked at my desk that I saw what I'd missed all day. I guess I'll have to get into the habit of checking the actual game posts.

"It's as tiring as fixing an excavator with a damaged engine. We've done some good work. So we should try one more thing with Zo! and begin our tries on Ykris and Royo. Any ideas about the strategy with those two? If Stewart fails on his assessment should we make a try on Ykris with different approaches like Medicine, Life and Physical Science?"

"Agreed, Theshe impressed Zo! with displays of physical and combat prowess, but something tells me he would also be impressed with feats of agility, someone should try that." AKA Acrobatics "I'll try to get a better read on Royo and Ykris. Remember if you do not believe you have the knowledge to carry a conversation with them by yourself do not be afraid to work in pairs." AKA use Aid Another.

After the huddle with the First Seeker, Stewart made his way over to Royo. "Excuse me councilman Royo, my name is Stewart. I'm one of the newer Starfinder graduates. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself." Then nodding towards the paper tucked under the ysoki's arm, "It is not often I see someone carrying physical paper on the station, people have no appreciation for the classics these days. Xenoarchaeology is something of a hobby of mine so I understand the value of knowledge whether contained on paper, magnetic disks, or even stone tablets. What interesting subjects have you been reading about lately?"

meh, my lowest roll yet on the sense motive for Ykris too. the guest we know least about. I've been pretty lucky so far. there is a method to my madness though, I would rather we fully succeed at impressing 3 of the guests than only half impress all of them.

With a small group forming near Naiaj, Stewart takes the opportunity to excuse himself. "If you will excuse me, I see someone else I need to say hello to."

He makes his way over to where Azara is speaking to another guest. "You must be Ykris, my name is Stewart." He says taking a chance on protocol and offering to shake hands with, and speaking directly to, the half-elf. "I hope you are enjoying the party. Does your species eat, or do you get nutrients from the host? In either case I'm sure he will find the hors d'oeuvres excellent. Do you share the sensation of taste?" He asks with genuine excited curiosity. "Anyway I wanted to thank you personally for CeriCore Lab's generous support. How might the Society return the favor?"

While Theshe shows off an impressive display for Zo! Stewart makes his way over to where Naiaj is once again working alone on her datapad. "Excuse me, Venture-Captain Naiaj, I don't believe we've been formally introduced. My name is Stewart, I usually have my mission briefings with Venture-Captain Arvin."

"The job is never done is it?" He asked, glancing at her screen. "Mind if I ask what you're working on so intently? Maybe I can help, or know someone who can."
