As a regular Paizo fan of almost every product,I finally decided to pick two of these up at my FLGS when my Chessex mat died. I've used Gamer Paper and even laminated a paper grid map Wizards gave me.
The thickness is good, but my map had bubbles and the creases were so defined, even after reverse bending and laying books on it, they are a permanent fold in the map. The creases also appear to have already broken the fold seal and expect will stain the map underneath.
The desire to compress the package size in my opinion ruins the product.
What makes it worse is I was really looking forward to the printed maps, but the packing, being the same, implies the same issues in those.
