Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

I understand your reasoning. I had to call an end to a table-top game I had been running for well over a year. It was starting to spiral out of hand from what I had originally wanted with the PC's with their power level but more than that I had just run out of steam for it.

Midnight is what originally drew me to the game and while I didn't agree with all of the changes you made to the setting, the story you created held me on a lot longer than most would have. I agree with Duncan, I would like to see the Midnight game continue but I don't want to force you into running a game you no longer want to.

Unfortunately even if the Midnight game does return, Sorok will likely not be there. I have recently been drawn into several other games during this last hiatus and I don't think I have much time for another one right now. If something doesn't work out or if one of my other characters should be killed, both are fairly probable right now, then I would be likely to return. I'll still keep watching to see what happens but until then however, this is my official notice that I am leaving the Midnight game.

" Gilian, Chops, Duncan, Solvistania, I' was a blast role-playin' it out with ye all over these las' few years. Vikturiun, Ilyamiel, Crunk, Sky'tor, an' all the rest o' ye who couldn' be here, it were a shor' time I go' t' know ye all bu' I hope tha' I get a chance t' fight the Shadow with ye all again sometime. Maybe sooner than later."
-Sorok

It was hard to see, as Dwarves were a stoic and stubborn lot to begin with, especially now with the Dwarf who now had a heart of stone, but a small tear began to well up in the Dwarf's eye. Perhaps not all emotion had been lost to this Dwarf with whatever had happened to him over the last seven years. But it was certain to those who were watching that he would never forget them.

Take care.

Not too many ideas floating around in my head for a fix right now. If you plan on keeping a Dexterity focused, Two-Weapon fighting type; multiclassing into a Channeler or taking Magecraft to give you Shield or Mage Armor are the only ways I can think to give you any significant bonuses to your A.C.

You could also try multiclassing into Fighter. Feats like Two-weapon Defense(Core rulebook), Combat Expertise(Core Rulebook), Crane Style(Ultimate Combat) and the Two weapon Fighter's Archetype(Advanced Player's Guide), mixed with fighting defensively are all ways to help your character survive most encounters.

Sorok stopped short of the door and looked back at Crunk. The strangely inquisitive Goblin had gotten him thinking about his earlier assumptions of their race. He had always thought the Goblins were a savage and unintelligent race. But not Crunk. Maybe they'd never had a chance before Izrador and his Orcish minions had enslaved them.

How many of your kind have I killed, I wonder? Taking a deep breath, Sorok spoke loudly.

"The well, it's no' bein' refreshed. Have ye ever woken hungry before? With meat bein' cooked nearby, makes yer stomach growl, yer mouth water, an' if ye been starvin, ye move for it with an animalistic urge."

He looked at his axe, Umbra, in his hands; "Whatever is down here... it's hungry and it'll devour all of us, if it's no' stopped."

With finality he slammed the pommel into the wall next to him."An' that's wha' I mean to do. Now all of ye, stop yer bickerin an' choose a door. We've a job t' do."

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok looked at the Innkeeper for a moment and had to wonder how these creatures were to be kept by one person. He then shook his head and made a decision. "I'll go right."

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok looked ahead at the portal and without a word, moved in with the others.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

"Wha'ever i' is, we should hurry." Said Sorok, giving both the Legate and the remaining tentacles a cautionary glance. He then moved for the Inn keeper.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok hurries over to the hidden blade and pulls it free. He then unceremoniously throws the blade toward the Legate.

"Here!"

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Tired of a back and forth argument when there was something bigger on the line for all of them, Sorok wordlessly began to search out the Legate's blade.

Aye.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sounds like a solid plan.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Dropping to the ground, Sorok looks dispassionately at the Legate and then around the room, before settling his gaze on Solvistania.

"Let 'im go, lass. We need t' deal with this now. No sense'n fightin two battles."

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Okay, thanks to Duncan Sorok is free now.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

A well placed Lightning Bolt would do us a lot of good right now.

I'm a little confused by your last statement there. Last I checked, one of the primary reasons for being a fighter was the fact they get the most feats. Unless you meant to gain the Wildlander feats first.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Don't burn yourself out planning too far ahead on your character. This games level up's come at a fairly appropriate pace but I've seen encounters take down 2 PC's while leaving the rest of the group pretty torn up.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Oh yeah, Vikturiun that's a great idea! Certain weapons have various abilities attached to them in their descriptions; brace, trip, disarm, reach, monk, double, nonlethal, ect. Which means when you use these weapons they give you special bonuses. Example: trip- gives you the ability to avoid being tripped if you fail your attempt by dropping your weapon instead, Disarm- gives you a +2 to your disarm attempt. The whip itself is a pretty terrible weapon at dealing damage, but it has all of the combat maneuver additions and a 15 ft. reach, so you can hang back during a crowded melee fight and just disarm or trip people.

Most of the Combat Maneuver checks have to be done as a standard action but the trip and disarm maneuvers can be done as an attack action instead. If you've ever seen Game Of Thrones, there's a really cool character who uses a whip to great effectiveness time and again.

I'm trying to think what we have here to fill in the party, I don't really think we have much in the way of gaps. We have a Dworg two weapon fighting front-liner and grappler, an Erenlander sword and shield fighter who also happens to be our party's face speaker, a Dwarven defensive tank who can just take all the attacks and aid others with their AC, a goblin Rogue skill monkey support type. We also have an Erenlander Channeler who is completely focused on healing, a Elorg Channeler who has All the Spell Energy and is our intellectual buffer and ranged support, another Elorg on the way who is planning on being our boom stick/ support front-liner, to top it off we have a couple of Familiars running around too.

I'd say we're pretty good on Casters for the most part but more Fighter types never hurt. A big Two handed Fighter specked for damage output is kind of the thing we're looking for. The Sunder part of the idea was just something that occurred to me but just hitting people works fine too.

Also we don't have someone who is completely specked out for ranged combat. With the feats and abilities now days, ranged combat is a good place to be. Wildlander or Fighter. Point Blank shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim, Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, point blank master, Clustered Shots

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

A Two-handed, One hit wonder destroyer. Basically a guy who's good at breaking stuff we don't want our enemies to have .

Feats:Power Attack(Core Rulebook), Improved Sunder(Core Rulebook), Smash(Advanced Players Guide), Weapon Focus(Core Rulebook), Weapon Specialization(Core Rulebook), Magecraft- 1st level spell- Enlarge Person(Midnight 2nd edition Core Book) Later on think about picking up Greater Sunder and Vital Strike as feats.

Cultural Fighting Techniques(Steel and Shadow Source Book): Dwarven- Knowledge of Steel, Benefit: Weapons and shields have half their normal hardness against your sunder attempts.
Orcish- Power Sunder. Benefit: If you successfully sunder an opponent's weapon or shield, you may immediately initiate a trip attack without provoking an attack of opportunity. If you fail, you may not be tripped in return.

Two Weapon Fighter traits (Advanced Players guide)- Shattering Strike, Overhand Chop. Backswing as a later Two Weapon Fighter trait.

Honestly, I would suggest a Dworg as race thanks to the Good Strength and Constitution they have in addition to the fact that some of the Feats I have suggested require you to be of a specific race.

The Dwarf was so used to defnding himself from attack that came from above and around him he did not expect the ground to suddenly break beneath his feet and a huge tentacle erupt out to grab him.

Right you are sir, though I have been busier than usual as of late. I must say I really do like your character and where you are heading with it. The back story with the Iron-born path is a great touch up for the martial aspect. With your characters level of intellect, you should know many more spells however. 2 per level of Channeler automatically with 8 additional for each level that you could have learned, a grand potential total of 40 spells. You should also ask Nightflier about the amount of Talismans you can have.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Check1d20 ⇒ 20

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Having the same exact problem here. My dice roll came out to a 20.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Really? Well then that changes my last turn. Damage dealt is only 13 points, and AC. is still at 30. Illiameyl's saves and AC. are still boosted by 1 and she still takes only 1/2 damage from enemy attacks.

I will update character tomorrow when I'm at school. My computer at home doesn't have the right type of file decoder for most of Nightflier's documents.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Round 3, status: HP.83/98, AC.30, Shield Other Stance(Illiameyl)

Sorok realized that he needed to end this fight as soon as he could, seeing that the Elf was healed somewhat he switches his fighting stance from one of defense to offense and swings Umbra at the nearest of the two summoned creatures. He was now more open to attacks and hoped that the creatures would strike at him.

Switching from Shield other to punishing stance. Lowering AC. 26, Power Attacking with Umbra's axe side, which is a silver blade if that makes a difference.
1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 10 - 2 = 26

Noooo! Not some sort of demon/devil to deal with in her bad state. Illiameyl is having a serious bad day.

I think I better start working on a new character, doubt Illiameyl will survive this encounter.

Should I make another wildlander character?

PS: what are the playable races, and if some more advance races are allowed, what would the level adjustment would be?

Bah! You should never doubt your allies ability to help you get through this alive! You just make sure to move behind me and give yourself cover until Gilian can hopefully heal you.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Round 2

Seeing his more martial allies cutting through the enemy lines, he decided to stay clear of them and moved to help shield Solvistania and the Shadar Elf from the two summoned creatures.

Shield other Stance to shield the nearly dead Elf, Aid Another to solvistania:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Illiameyl, your AC is increased by 1 and half of all damage you take will be redirected to me, Solvistania your AC is increased by 2 from the creature closer to you. I can use an attack of oppportunity to shield either of you with another Aid another check should you be attacked.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Well considering the whole background of the Elorgs in the first place, they were pretty much built with the idea of becoming the most powerful of Channelers. It's their races niche, if you will.

They are far more powerful if they focus in that area, but it also gives them the ability to branch out and supplement their classes with other things and not lose too much in the way of spell prowess. A few levels in Channeler and multiclassing some Fighter, then going Warrior Arcanist the rest of the way would allow them to be a fairly terrifying melee combatant.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Not a bad first draft. So it looks like you'll be something of a skirmishing, support character with the way you've got yourself set up so far. Couple of things. First, if you are planning on doing the beast rider combat I suggest your spellcasting schools be Transmutation and either Illusion or Abjuration.

If however you plan to be our direct damage dealer, I recommend that you change out your feats to be more focused magically. The Spell Focus feats to increase DC's of spells, opening up other schools of magic, the blood magic feat or meta magic feats. As for your bonus feat at 4th level, I recommend taking the Craft Spell Talisman feat as that will reduce spell costs. We already have a boatload of folks who are primarily combat oriented as is so you wouldn't really need to worry about that.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Hey there RR, welcome to the game. I do enjoy the idea of another Channeler joining our group and I think you should play our Evocation boom stick. That being said,I would like to see a Charismatic Channeler but understand if you want to be Spiritual or even Hermetic. I'd also be happy to help you with the build if you want.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Hey, don't worry about it so much. It's all about learning and adapting. Your character is only 5th level, in an environment that likely supported a lot more intrigue and aristocratic back room dealings. You probably were a primary martial character right up until a large group of much more vicious, heavily armed and armored, war prone individuals barged in and got the drop on you.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok sees the Legate throw the flask of liquid onto the fallen knight and doesn't hesitate. Fearing some sort of undeath magic, he raises his axe high above his head he steps next to the knights head and delivers a decapitating blow.

Sorok is delivering a Coup de grace, to the (hopefully) helpless knight. He is more than willing to take the Attack of Opportunity it grants any adjacent enemies. Power attacking for extra damage.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Taking advantage of the free moment, Sorok pulls himself to his feet and moves to stand over the body of the fallen Knight. He does not speak or give challenge as he once might have but his intentions were obvious. He refused to stay down and he would not give ground.

Still Using Combat expertise, AC. 30.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Currently 83/98 Hit points.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok lets out a small grunt of pain as he partially takes two sword strokes from the dark knight. He then swings Umbra in retaliation.

Attack:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Ouch! Apparently the hit did more internal damage than the Dwarf realized. Critical Miss Roll:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Seeing that the fight was already turning bad for the group Sorok steps in, trying to draw attention from their foes while shielding his allies.
Moving in to try to get between Duncan and Chops if I can, if not then just standing with Duncan who is now the target of my shield other stance. Also using Bodyguard, which allows me to use aid another as an attack of opportunity to increase an allies armor class when they are attacked. Switching to use Combat Expertise. AC.30.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Perception1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Oh yeah, and the big guy moved in and got a full round action too, that probably shouldn't have happened.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Yeah I hate to say it, but Nightfliers game has been very deadly so far. The fact that your character only had Leather armor did not help things there. If Illiameyl had cast blur maybe, or was fighting defensively, or fallen back since she seemed to be focusing on ranged attacks rather than stay to the front.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Sorok turns to the suddenly full scale fight. Seeing that he was more likely to end up on the floor than not, he grabs his axe from its sheath and moves in to guard Solvistania from harm.

Sorok will move to stand in front of Solvistania and use his
Shield Other (Stance):
Benefit: As a swift action, you can declare one ally within reach as the recipient of this ability. The subject gains a +1 Aid Another bonus to AC and a +1 Aid Another bonus on saves. Additionally, the subject takes only half damage from all wounds and attacks (including those dealt by special abilities) that deal hit point damage. The amount of damage not taken by the warded creature is taken by you.
Full Defense, AC. 32

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Looking across the room at the newcomer, the Dwarf gruffly replies. "Sorok"

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Taking Double Slice will allow you to use your full stat bonus for damage on your off hand.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

"Lad, sometimes flusterin yer opponents makes them say things they hadn' been meanin' t' say. Ye have a name t' ask fer, Vulgotha. Ye also go' yer eldest who ye came fer now. Ye can leave here."

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Vital Strike can only be used as a single attack which deals more damage. It's the answer to an enemy Damage Reduction and is great in combination with the Spring Attack feat tree.

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Perception1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 Sorok glances at the Elorg briefly before returning his focus to the retreating Shadar Elves.

Shadar:
"Ay, tha's right, an' don' ye be comin back."

Male Black Blood Dwarf Fighter 5

Character sheet edited. Traits have been altered. As for feats, I had been using the 3.0 Roll with it which granted 2 D.R. if the character had 20 Constitution or more. Changed to Shield focus instead. I'll just assume that Sorok lost his tower shield after losing consciousness and replaced it by forging a large steel shield. As for his armor, he is wearing a Breast plate which is Medium armor. It's one of his fighter talents that is increasing his armor bonus.
