So, I know the PBP has been over for a while, and that no one might ever read this, but felt like dropping a message anyway. The Enhanced edition for pathfinder WOTR launched today and I started a shaman>Angel playthrough for Sorogar. Since there is a half-orc shaman archetype that gets a pet I picked that and named him Krokkin :P As such the PBP kind of lives on.

Thanks again for the invite back then. It was my first real PBP campaign and I felt it was a nice group of writers. Hope you're all doing great and that we might meet again someday.

Ah, right. I was afraid that would happen. Please take care of issues Herk and I'll definitely rejoin in the future if you decide to reopen this.

I'd prefer not much longer than a month at most, if possible. Long periods of inactivity tend to be bad for retaining interest in it, or getting back in the campaign (what were we doing again? Have we handled X? Did we forget about something improtant etc )

Sorogar stands by, admiring Ohime's dance in the absense of an immediate threat.

Sorogar has the decency to blush at Ohime's good natured teasing, but does shoot a grin at Krokkin when she catches him staring - one which seems to say 'later'.

"We could do both. Charm one of the hunters, following their tracks. Get some information before walking in. Going in completely blind sounds a bit foolhardy to me. Unless you all would prefer to just boldly stride in, that would be my advice."

survival, track a lone hobgoblin hunter by tracks: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (1) + 18 = 19

Probably has her head in the clouds too much to do any proper tracking -_-

At some point, Sorogar approaches the pair along with Krokkin. There's a nervous kind of happiness around the two of them along with beaming smiles as they look at eachother. Rather than explain, she looks looks at her sister (and Brek, too) and gives them a grateful nod.

She gives Krokkin an affectionate stroke on the cheek as she walks forward and sees the encampment herself. "I see. Seems like we've found at least one of the villages. So... how do we go about rooting out the Rakshasha? Perhaps we could use the wand to charm one to ask them about what has been happening, before we walk into a potential trap?" she suggests, mirroring Ohime's unspoken thoughts. "We were unable to kill all of them back at the camp. It stands to reason the archer who escaped would have warned the others by now. Even as I saw him first, I sensed an overshelmingly evil presence. We shouldn't underestimate them or their underlings."

I mean, there could have been like a super romantic kiss, literally flying high above the lizardfolk town with the huge/beautiful lake in the background/stretching all the way over to the sunset horizon.

But noooooo. Kitty had to forward the scene by like a day without anything happening there so you just get the surprise smooch instead :P

F F Half-Orc Life Shaman 9/L. Oracle 1. HP: 103/103. AC: 20, FF 20, T 12. Att: +9 vs ac (/w PA), 2d4+10(CI /magic, 18-20/x2). CMB: +11, CMD: 22. Saves: F+11, R+7, W+17. Perc. + 17, heal +27/31, init -1, Darkvision 60 ft. Buffs not included.

At some point Sorogar disengages and looks down at Krokkin, blushing but with a happy smile. "So... I gather you feel the same? Because if not, after that, I will hex you into oblivion!" She then feels a rather stiff something brush past her leg, blinking and glancing down, she chuckles. "Well, it didn't take much to rouse your spear, hm?" swallowing remaining nerves, she gives it a tentative poke though his pants and enjoyed watching Krokkin squirm over it.

"You'll have to hold that back though, not with Brek and Ohime near. But you know..." She leans closer and whispers in his ear. "Be a good kitty and I might just have a reward for you. You're mine now, Krokkin, and I'm going to enjoy that to the fullest!"

Her smile shifts to an ever more devious one. "And to start... I think I'll take at least one more kiss before they get back."

Flash forward until the others get back?

Taking a deep breath, Sorogar nods at Ohime and is idly aware of her and Brek leaving somewhere. She gives Brujah a soft push to which the bat screeches indignantly as it begins flying overhead. Movah, ever walking near her, snorts though deciding to similarly back off.

She balls her fist and approaches the Catfolk walking at the front. "Say, Krokkin. There's something I've been meaning to tell you. I tried it subtly yesterday, but that didn't work out so..." she sighs, realising she was starting to ramble. "Oh, screw it."

She kisses him straight on the mouth.

The next day, it seems?

During the descent to the supposed location of the hoobgoblin villages, Sorogar at some point exchanges a worried glance with Ohime and falls back to talk to her in private. "Do you know what's wrong with Krokkin? He seems really agitated today. Maybe avoiding me, even? I thought he really liked flying in the end but he was pretty frightened at first... I think I might have upset him somehow, and we didn't even get a chance to talk about... well, things. I'm not sure why I didn't while we flew up there, as it was the *perfect* moment. I... guess I got nervous. It's not as easy as I thought..."

I'll wait with reacting to the new scene until I know how the situation with Krokkin plays out.

Now, either you are pig-headed and stubborn when faced with opposition, or you might just be a decent, and cute might I add, half-orc. Or maybe both!" She snickers. ... You speak to the spirits, and they probably constantly remind you of failure, but you aren't branded by failure like me. Do I listen to it? No. I'm going to live my best life right here and now."

"So you'd say it's not fate, or any larger design. Just us happening to be in the right place in the right time to do something about these dangers and then just doing our best?" Sorogar looks up and smiles a toothy grin. "I think I like that take. It makes it feel a bit more grounded, and moreso to that someone else could take over if we fail. Not that we're going to, if I have anything to say about! And... for what it's worth, *I* don't think you're useless, or a failure. I think that without your advice, I might have cracked under the pressure by now. So for that... thanks, sister."

She pats her sister's thigh with a slap.

"Now...what about Krokkin? He's an impressive fighter now hmmmmmmMMM?" It is clear she's prodding Sorogar to talk about Krokkin's other qualities for gossip.

Sorogar gives a yelp of surprise and frowns at Ohime in mock accusation over the slap. "I, ah, Krokkin...?" She squirms under Ohime's stare and blushes. "Well... he's... pretty impressive. I heard he watched over me when I had to rest after knocking out those racists slurring you back at the camp. He also calls me 'broodmother' for this tribe... but, up until now I took it as an honorary title thing and-" she sighs. "Okay, I'll admit the thought crossed my mind. Still... he's a catfolk and I'm a half-orc. I've never ever thought about a mate who is not a human or an orc. Can something like that even work? I can probably shapechange myself into a Catfolk for a while now... to... well... sample the wares?" By now , the shaman definitely carries a full blush. "Still... that's only temporary... and I don't have much experience on that field even. What about you?"

With Krokkin.

Krokkin wrote:
"You fly now and teleport not only yourself but our whole group. Your power has grown so quickly. I don't know how I can protect you in up coming battles. Also the transporting does something to me inside and I don't feel right for hours afterwards."

Hearing the Fluffy bit, Sorogar laughs and attempts to touch his fur during practise to try for herself. "Oh, I don't know. You feel pretty soft to me as it is. I quite like it," she jokes, feeling rather nervous at the borderline flirtatious remark.

She shakes her head and tries to take the problem more serious though, as it was bothering him quite a bit it seemed. "But you've grown as well, haven't you? We've each taken blows that probably would have killed either of us not too long ago. And this practise is probably part of it, I'd say. But if it's lack of flying that worries you, I'm sure the Skyfather can provide for you..."

She momentarily closes her eyes and mutters a few arcane words.

The next moment, Krokkin becomes keenly aware of even minute gusts of wind flowing around him, and he feels as though he is no longer bound to the earth.

"Now... walk with me, and we'll practise in the sky."

Gently taking his hands, Sorogar flies up and back pulling Krokkin after her. He finds he can now walk in the air, his feet finding just the right resistance to support him for whichever direction he wishes to move in. Up to a 45 degree angle, as per Air Walk.

Sorogar

When alone with Sorogar, she would express her stresses.

"It seems our team is uniquely changing...I'm still the same ol' me. You learned some new spells after seeing all of those dimensional beings?"

"They are," Sorogar look up from her reading and nods, seeing Brek fly with his fiery wings. "I... well, part of it was from this tome we took from Prisssterica. It's a lot of dark magic, but reading it helped me understand some of its principles. Wizards are rare among orcs and tribal humans... so it's the best I'd get for a teacher, I thought. That was until Mother Kuraderi talked to me, and our minds touched. In that moment, I could sense her vast knowledge. Concepts she'd long ago mastered. Ways to twist reality itself to suit ones own needs. And I feel... I feel like I'm getting closer to understanding it all, one fragment at a time."

She closes the tome and takes a deep breath. In that moment she looks tired, wary, perhaps slightly confused. More like the barely adult half-orc girl and less like the slayer that had fought the Wolf Queen, the thing from the abyss and then the Succubus in rapid succession. "Say, Ohime? Do you think I'm worthy of wielding such power, smart enough to do with it as it best for the world? Or is that me thinking too highly of myself?"

Glancing forward, she looks past Krokkin training on the beech and the huge lake ahead. "If I'm honest, sometimes it almost feels too much. A month or three ago, this was still all about capturing a bird for a rich man from across the sea. Now, it's about rooting out a clan of Rakshasha infiltrating who knows how many tribes of powerful beings, while at the same time fending off a demon invasion we just stumbled on to. Was that dumb luck, or something guiding us? Have we truly been chosen for something? And why us, specifically? What made us special enough to be entrusted with such high stakes, and by who? We've talked to beings akin to gods , even... and they're seemingly depending on us. When I consider that, I can't even find it in me to go to the village elder here and be angry at her for inflicting us with the Geases. I need to stay fully focused on my studies, every moment. But I find that I just can't, these last few days."

She trails off, unsure how to continue. "I try to never let it show. But at the same time I keep wondering. Am I really strong enough? Can I support you all well enough? What if I fail? What If I die and the gods' faith in me was misplaced, if it was even there to begin with?"

Later, alone with Krokkin.

"Hey, Krokkin?" Sorogar calls out to him, carrying along a pair of practice swords. "I've... ah, noticed you've been avoiding me, right? Is there something you want to talk about?"

She throws one of the swords to him and assumes her stance, just as he'd taught her over many a time on the way.

Hey Brek, out of curiosity, is there any particular readon you're not using the human favored class bonus for sorceror to add more spells to your spell list instead of 1 hp or skill point? Personally i think that's better, and can prevent situations where you can't help due to lack of effective spells.

Sorogar, after taking final stock of the items, sighs. "There's much of this we can't use that well. Perhaps if we could sell it somewhere... or take it back to the cave. Hm..."

Over the next week, she spends almost all of her downtime working on the headband Kuraderi left her, only interrupting it to join Ohime for alchemy, cooking and idle chatter, Krokkin for training sessions, or Brek for his advice on the arcane matters and the mysterious tome they found on Prissterica.

This artefact was hard to enchant, but the process was going well... she thought, going so far as to even work straight through all the nights with her earlier crafted potions of Keep Watch.

At the end of the eighth day, following the group packing camp belongings, she tries on the new headband and smiles. "Everyone, I wanted to hare something with you. I had a dream in which Kuraderi spoke to me. And I think I can do something special now..." She looks up with an excited twinkle in her eyes. "Does anyone fancy a swim in a nice lake?"

Her voice, infused with arcane power, echoes through the clearing...

Orcish:
"VITA! MORTIS! CARENA!"

...And the party disappears!

She casts communal water breathing, then teleport, back to the Lizardfolk village. If it works, after some relaxation, she will teleport the group back to the cave for selling items and finally back to the vicinity of where they were, or further closer to the supposed hobgoblin tribes location if possible.

Teleport roll, low is bad: 1d100 ⇒ 10

That makes it, assuming it is within 900 miles and that Sorogar is at least somewhat familiar with the village we spent in.

Well, that got botched. I meant to say: "She uses the arcane enlightenment hex from the lore spirit." The rest of my previous post was correct.

Also: Thanks Brek, for the funds.

Sorogar can't fail the crafting roll at dc 26 if she studies in crafter's fortune and tears to wine during the crafting process.

She uses ... i can think namd is the srcsne enlightenment hex from the lore spirit. Every day, she can pick (CHA MOD) numer of arcsne spells to add to her spell list. She must have the inelligence score required to cast that spell. For a 5th level arcane spell, that is 15 int. You are correct otherwise that shamans use wisdom.

9 shaman/1 oracle.

HP roll: hp: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

+1 BAB
+1 willsave

Spells:
+1 level 2 slot
+1 level 5 slot (and life 'domain' slot: Breath of life 1x/day)

FCB:
+1 cleric spell of 4th level or lower added to spell list (If anyone has a recommendation, let me know. Crusader's edge in case we meet more demons? Freedom of movement though Ohime has the Masterpiece that grants it to everyone? Death ward for if we run into level draining enemies?)

Skills
(Fly, heal, perception +1 (background + int headband), Knowledge planes +1, spellcraft +4.

Equipment:
-Added belt of +2 con and +1 nagting warhammer to inventory, as well as the burning dagger (though she will try to sell the latter one).

-Upgrade headband of mental perfection from +2 to +4* (costs 24 k, done in 8 days at fulltime crafting if we camp). This would cost all the gold and gems found (11k), all the teeth (5 k worth), the overspent gold she had done (5.25 k), leaving her 2.75 k short. Could Sorogar borrow this from someone until she can sell part of her loot? Or can any magical items we currently have be used as crafting materials to bridge that gap? ( the burning dagger really isn't needed for her and is worth 11 k when sold).

If Sorogar managed to upgrade the headband, she would gain access to teleport when needed (it requires 15 int for her to cast it). This is always nice to move the party around, but on short term it would also allow her to teleport to the dragon cave and sell the items we don't need for gold/gems. It's the only shop we have that could buy these items off of us I think.

@Ohime Ah, thanks. That is good to know. I don't think Sorogar currently has any combined items except for the fly headband which she upgraded with cha and wis. I calculated it as adding 50% extra of the added item, so a total cost of 15000/2=7500 to add. It should have been 2250 then, as half of the fly headband's cost. So that would give her 5.25 k gold back. Pretty nice!

I like the idea of the boots. She might have enough out of combat healing as is but she could always switch the pair for the boots of the cat she has now.

@Herk So, this is a serious question... can we even sell any of these items, and if so, to who? The only 'shop' we had was the dragon cave, which supposedly is far behind us. None of us have teleport yet (next level). I guess Sorogar could fly and dimension door to and fro by herself if we load a lot in the bag of holding, but I think it would still take a few days to get there and back?

Sure, no problem. This is the wishlist I found for Brek:

"Rods
Rod of Metamagic, Bouncing 3,000 gp
Rod of Metamagic, Extend (lesser) 3,000 gp
Rod of Metamagic, Intensified 3,000 gp
Rod of Metamagic, Elemental (lesser) 3,000 gp
Rod of the Thriceborn 2,500 gp
Rod of Cancellation 11,000 gp

Staves
Ember Staff 13,100 gp
Staff of Fire 18,950 gp

Wonderous Items
Monk's Robe 13,000 gp
Headband of Alluring Charisma (+2) 4,000 gp"

And this is what he already bought:

"Purchases
Rod of Metamagic, Intensified (lesser) 3,000
Headband of Alluring Charisma (+2) 4,000 --->Crafted so 2,000
Cloak of Resistance (+2) 4,000
Boots of the Mire 3,500
Eyes of Keen Sight 6,000
Silken ceremonial +1 1,130"

We have 11 k from general currency here. Sorogar does not have craft Rod unfortunately - only woundrous items and magical armor/weapons. What would you like crafted, Brek?

"Is something wrong, Ohime? You look uneasy. Does the future of the orb weigh on your mind, or is it something else?" The half-orc felt more refreshed than she probably had any right to. Perhaps the lingering effect of the fey presence?

Thanks, Ohime, and hark for answering some of the questions. I think Ohime's questions on the value of the monster parts and how much special ammunition can be crafted. Also, there is a headband with +2 to two of wis, int and cha. Which stats does it increase?

I looked at Mithral; a batch of 20 mithral arrows would weigh half of a normal one of 20, so 1.5 lbs. The price of mithral ammunition is 500 g per lb normally, so 750 g for 20 arrows. 2500 g worth of mithal would be 66.6 arrows at show price. The same is true if you craft it yourself from the material. 5/1.5 = 3.33333, x 20 = 66.6 arrows.

A fitting numer, I guess, for having fought multiple enemies from the abyss and hell! (unless Herk would rule differently crafts).

For Alchemical silver, no idea. It is a coating applied over other items normally and ammunition is stated as 2 gp cost per 20. So... 7.5 batches of 20 arrows if you had that many?

That aside, lots of good items. Who wants what? We have among other things a +2 con belt, a +2 dex gloves (normally impossible to get), a helm that gives +2 ac vs giants, a +3 heavy shield (technically Sorogar and Krokkin but practially only Krokkin could use it), a monstrous humanoid bane melee martial weapon (I think only Krokkin can use it?), and an Ioun stone with +2 wisdom and blind fight as a bonus feat if slotted into a wayfinder.

Sorogar can only use one of the weapons (She would take a +1 negating warhammer) and potentially the con belt. However, she could also take part of the gold (5k out of the 11 k) and craft a better belt over the next five days (+2 to two physical stats. If making one for herself, she would pick str and con). Everything else she would pass on as she can't make good use of it. Unless someone objects, she would craft the belt.

If someone wants me to make a magical woundrous item or weapon/armor with the remaining gold, let me know? Crafting a wayfinder for the resosance bonus on the +2 wisdom Ioun stone also seems a good idea. That would only cost 250 g and give someone (Krokkin?) the blind fight feat.

I'm curious about that too. Does the grig reappear and answer Ohime's questions? What is it going to do now? Do we move on back to the main quest? Sorogar opens an blood-shot eye from her bedroll - the strain of casting tha many dismissals had been taxing, added to her already existing fatigue and worry the hellhounds might turn on them still if it took her too long to prepare the spells. She'd sustained herself with lesser restorations to remove her tiredness, but those only lasted so long.

"I agree... you should take it, Brek. Keep it safe. When we wake up... we should... find Giants... Raskshasha..."

Inwardly relieved but trying not to show it, Sorogar casts Dismissal on the Nalfeshnee. The why he was cooperative or wanted to return when he could wreck so much havoc on the world was something she'd consider another time - when she'd had time to rest. After four consecutive very trying fights, and coincedentallty probably saving the entire world back to back twice, she felt every single fibre of her muscles, and felt as though she could sleep for days...

Sorogar looks at the remains of the succubus she'd just cleaved in four. There is a rush of victory, of reveling in the skill, as her gaze shifts to the other demon still present, still cluthing the enchanted sword tightly.

But the moment passes, perhaps spurred by Krokkin's somewhat childish and morbid taunt and the more level-headed responses of Brek and Ohime appealing to her wise-woman nature. She lowers her blade just as the effects of her anti-evil spell began to fade. "I can send you back to the Abyss, yes, but it will be now. I can cast it once and only once before resting. If you refuse to go, we will unfortunately be forced to fight. Lower your resistance and accept the teleportation," she says to the Nalfashnee, then casts Dismissal on him after giving him a moment to comply.

Communcal align weapon: good is probably down to one minute or so on Krokkin and Sorogar now. I didn't exactly track the duration but it was cast during the fight with the portal guardian, with a duration of 4 minutes on Krokkin and Sorogar each. So, before it runs out, she would try dismissing the Demon back to the Abyss and if it doesn't go, use what is left of the buff to try and fight him. DR10/good is rough, especially when we're getting low on resources.

Okay. Now that Krokkin has failed the save twice, Sorogar takes her action as above and casts the suppress charms and compulsions spell on Krokkin, herself, and the others if within 45 feet of her. She uses the suppress option, which nulls the Dominate effect for the duration of her spell. That is at max 8 rounds or until she loses concentration, but Krokkin can act normally until it runs out. She also removes her active lifelinks as an immediate action so that she doesn't have to chain roll concentration checks from damage redirected to her.

Seeing Krokkin suddenly stop and turn around to face his allies with sword drawn, Sorogar grimaces from her position in the air. "So it works on catfolk, too... not bad. I'd hoped not to do this, but it seems I have no choice."

She takes a deep breath and begins muttering an incantation.

"Krokkin! Wake up! She is trying to take over your mind! Focus and push her back out!"

Sorogar casts suppress charms and compulsions on herself and Krokkin (and Brek and Ohime if either are within 45 feet of her). She uses the suppress ability. That means that for a max of 8 rounds, all compulsion effects like Dominate and Charm stop working and Krokkin can act normally. However, it's a concentration effect, so Sorogar can no longer cast spells during it, and if she takes damage she might lose the spell to concentration checks.

I searched around, and can't find anything on this. There's an FAQ for multiple charms but that's 5e d&d, not pathfinder.

Domination seems a more powerful spell/effect than charm monster, our wand, which is technically a first level spell except that it affects any living creature with Charm Person instead of just humanoids.

The text of Dominate person:

You can control the actions of any humanoid creature through a telepathic link that you establish with the subject’s mind.

If you and the subject have a common language, you can generally force the subject to perform as you desire, within the limits of its abilities. If no common language exists, you can communicate only basic commands, such as “Come here,” “Go there,” “Fight,” and “Stand still.” You know what the subject is experiencing, but you do not receive direct sensory input from it, nor can it communicate with you telepathically.

Once you have given a dominated creature a command, it continues to attempt to carry out that command to the exclusion of all other activities except those necessary for day-to-day survival (such as sleeping, eating, and so forth). Because of this limited range of activity, a Sense Motive check against DC 15 (rather than DC 25) can determine that the subject’s behavior is being influenced by an enchantment effect (see the Sense Motive skill description).

Changing your orders or giving a dominated creature a new command is a move action. Subjects resist this control, and any subject forced to take actions against its nature receives a new saving throw with a +2 bonus.

Meanwhile, Charm person says this:

"This charm makes a humanoid creature regard you as its trusted friend and ally (treat the target’s attitude as friendly). If the creature is currently being threatened or attacked by you or your allies, however, it receives a +5 bonus on its saving throw.

The spell does not enable you to control the charmed person as if it were an automaton, but it perceives your words and actions in the most favorable way. You can try to give the subject orders, but you must win an opposed Charisma check to convince it to do anything it wouldn’t ordinarily do. (Retries are not allowed.) An affected creature never obeys suicidal or obviously harmful orders, but it might be convinced that something very dangerous is worth doing. Any act by you or your apparent allies that threatens the charmed person breaks the spell."

Put against eachother

Reading them both, Dominate per dominate person allows the succubus to give Krokkin any order she wants as she has near direct control of him, and he HAS to do it to the best of his ability, but 'if it is against his nature' he gets a second save with a +2 bonus.

Charm person makes him view Brek, as the charmer, as a trusted ally, and he perceives his actions in the most favorable way. Brek, however, explicitely has no control over Krokkin the way the dominate does. So it seems to me that Krokkin would then still attack, but would get the new saving throw with a +2 bonus from dominate as it's against his nature to attack a trusted ally. He probably would get one regardless of the Charm as he's attacking his tribe, which he'd normally never do. I think the oppose charisma check of convincing Krokkin to fight the succubus instead doesn't work here as she can mentally force Krokkin to do what she wants.

However, this might be a moot point for now, as Sorogar prepared a spell just for this...
