I hope everyone's doing okay. The area I live in has been hit pretty hard by severe flu this year.
I keep hoping for Lisabett to suddenly reappear. I'm not sure about Almar. It's well past when he said he would be back and the holidays are now over as well. I don't think this is the ideal time to look for replacements as, I assume, we're getting nearish to the end. Is it possible to finish the first book with just the three of us? If so, I'd rather do that than try to rush and fit somebody new in near the end.
"I'm not sure," Sorin says with a bit of frustration as he looks at all the doors. "I don't believe the oni was master of this place. The layout of this place is a complete mystery to me; Ameiko could be anywhere." Sorin continues to look around as if to glean some magical insight into which way to go. "I have this uncomfortable feeling that I've forgotten something but, if I have, it continues to elude me."
"Well, if no one else wants it, I supose I can make use of the bow. It isn't really my style but it may prove useful."

Sorin steps away from the body, uncertain of what magic is at work. He'll use Detect Evil on the items as he does so.
"I don't doubt the key is useful though I would be loathe to use any of the items this foul creature wore; these particular weapons aren't well suited to me anyways."
"Oni," Sorin says trying to recall the Tien word. "Some type of demon if I recall. I wonder what mad game it was playing at here? Regrettable that it did not honor its surrender."
I'll let my glaive clatter to the floor. I'll then move to drawing my hammer as I do so and attack.
The cramped quarters prevent Sorin from getting into position to attack. He'll double-move to .
Sorin is shocked and startled when Setomi attacks the man. He's about to say something but seeing the Kikonu starting to use magic Sorin attacks, hoping to force another surrender.
Sorin sighs at hearing the creature's response. Oblivious to Setomi's intentions, "You've already surrendered. Even had you not, there is no "decision" at hand whether or not to serve you; such a question is both pointless and ridiculous. The most immediate question is what can you tell us of the rest of this place?"
Sorin leans over to the others and says, "This one reeks of the stench of evil."
Sorin cocks an eyebrow. "Your domain? This place seems overlarge for just you. And what is it exactly that this place does for you?" Detect Evil focused on the red-faced man.
Sorin lowers his glaive. "What's going on here?" he asks sternly. "You treated this fight as if it were a play to be performed at your direction. What is it you do here?"
Sorin moves up to and attacks.

The others seem to have the remaining birdman well in hand and the other creature is clearly a spellcaster with malevolent intent. Sorin will direct the attack at Kikonu and forego the Detect Evil.
Supsicious about the nature of this fight, Sorin moves to and will (at will) Detect Evil on Kikonu. If obviously evil, Sorin will attack Kikonu, otherwise he'll attack the last Corby from the same spot.
As he battles, Sorin says, "The dead creature does not speak; some trickery is at work."
Confused by the creatures strange reactions, Sorin does nothing at first. When they move to attack, though, he steps forward.
"Seems like a good plan." Sorin will ready himself just in case whatever's on the other side of the door already knows we're here. After Raziel casts the spell, Sorin will open the door (if no one else wants to).
"Something vile is on the other side of the door at the end. I'm not sure what it is but this is as strong an evil as I've ever felt; except for the...thing Almar hunts."
Sorin starts as the slab closes behind him. Bringing his glaive up into a ready position his begins looking around using Detect Evil; especially around the other doors. He's convinced that something sinister lies in wait.
Sorin will Detect Evil down the passageway.
Sorin will move to where the creature is scaling the wall and strike at it with his glaive.
Unless someone else does something, Sorin will watch in frustration as the creature makes its escape.
Despite the warning, Sorin is caught off-guard by the speed of the creatures attack. Seeing Setomi temporarily immobilzed, Sorin rushes forward to attack. Sorin moves to hoping to keep the creatures attention away from Setomi (as I recall, Setomi can't provide a flanking bonus while entangled since she doesn't threaten any squares). He aims his attack at the back creature in .
11 damage if the Confirm failed, 32 if it succeeded.
While Setomi is scouting, Sorin will periodically use Detect Evil; mainly to ensure that nothing gets the drop on them.
"No, I didn't," Sorin says, "but your senses are far sharper than mine. Maybe someone did hear the fight. Hopefully, this mist will be as much a hindrance to them as it is to us. We either move forward carefully or wait here to see what shows up. Neither option is particularly attractive." "I suggest we move forward slowly and keep our heads down. I don't think it wise to dally in one place for too long."
"I think I remember a story Ameiko told me that had Tengu's in it but I can't quite recall what it was about; we were both much younger at the time." Sorin will try to open the inner gates, preferrably without too much noise from the rusty hinges.
Before descending the rope, Sorin will glance over the courtyard again seeing if any landmarks or other distinguishing features poke through the mist. Then he'll scramble down the rope, jiggle the rope and hook loose and pack it back up. Is there any way to tell where the Corby's came from or are the two gates the only way into this area?
Sorin listened to the sounds of fighting anxiously. It was hard not to go and help but he knew that he'd probably break a leg trying to jump down the trapdoor in armor. As the sounds of fighting seem to be winding down, Sorin grabs the rope and grappling hook and moves to the trapdoor (Stealth seeming to be meaningless at this point). He'll attach the hook to the edge of the trapdoor and let the roop fall. This will allow Sorin and Raziel to descend with less difficulty and provide healing as needed.
Sorin also declines to look through the trapdoor and stays next to Raziel. When Setomi reports what she's seen, "I hate just assuming something is an enemy but given the circumstances surrounding Brinewall and Spivey's warning it's difficult not to." "Also, I admit these guards concern me. They can hardly have failed to hear us when we first banged away at the gates yet they seem to be taking no action. How much surprise do we really have?"
He hands the rope and hook to Setomi. "Be careful. You'll be exposed at the top of the wall."
After testing the doors yields no results, "The doors aren't in great condition; if two of us take a running start we may be able to break them down. It would be a lot of noise though. Unless there's another way in..."
"Since that's the way of things we'd best hurry." Sorin starts to head towards the castle.
Sorin is visibly relieved by Spivey's suggestion. "Thank you, Spivey. That greatly sets my mind at ease." Looking at Raziel, "You're right, of course. We're just wasting time standing around here." After a brief pause, "I wish Lisabett hadn't run off. She's needed here."
"Leave them here?" Sorin is clearly surprised by this suggestion. "Are you sure? Will they even be able to defend themselves?"
Sorin nods at Raziel, "I agree. But how do get those under the effects of this spell to follow us? I cannot detect any malignance of evil near us and know of no way to break the spell's hold." Sorin pauses. "I suppose if we get everyone onto the wagons we can drive them in ourselves." He turns to Sandru and Mother Koya. "There's nothing to worry about and you don't have to go anywhere. Just need to get back on the wagons. We'll take care of the rest and go get Ameiko."
