Female Halfling Commoner 1

Sophone peeks around the corner of the alley to make sure no other humans are visible, then darts out to the fallen slaver. "Please, everyone stay calm, I'm a friend," she whispers to the slaves, "We're going to get you out of here. But we need to be quiet, so we don't attract attention. Quickly, get into the alley." She looks at the fallen man, the blood making her a little queasy. She steadies herself, and checks the man's belt, and then in pouches and pockets, to find a key to unlock the manacles.

Perception:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

I think it's another week before mine, too, not that it matters to me. I'm not in any classes, so the only difference is that there's less traffic around campus.

Any fun plans, Lupi?

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Sophone gulps. I can do this, I can do this... She is dressed in the clothes of a human street child, to avoid suspicion from Wiscrani passers-by. One step at a time... She takes a step, and then another. Soon, she is making her way through the backstreets, headed for the rendezvous point. She mentally reviewed the advice given to her by Roscoe. Hurry enough to look convincing, but not so much as to draw attention. She puts her head down, glancing furtively, but not too furtively, to the side whenever she passes an alley or intersection. Her feet patter almost noiselessly as she passes across the dark cobbles.

As she makes her way through the twilit city, her heart begins to beat a little less quickly. I'm doing it! I'm actually doing it! She imagines how Roscoe will congratulate her when she gets back, the grateful thanks of the soon-to-be-rescued slaves, perhaps even a smile of acknowledgement from a certain Duvey Copperpot... No, more than a smile, an acknowledgement; a compliment even! Sophone, you were so brave to rescue those slaves. I can see there's much more to you than I ever noticed before, he'd say. Say, Merrymead is coming up, are you going to be at the village dance? We could--

Suddenly, the real world intrudes on Sophone's reverie.

Ringtail:
I had some more thoughts about Sophone's backstory last night, and was wondering if I could make a few changes; it would also end up switching my level 1 revelation. I don't want to mess up what you have planned, if you were counting on using my old story.

At the part of the story where Sophone is contemplating stepping out the window, she does it. And instead of falling, walks out onto the moonbeams, and freedom. Moonlight Bridge revelation. At level 1, that would assume that the outer wall of the manor (or wherever she is going to walk to) is only 10 feet from her window, if the backstory has to follow RAW. For a backstory, I'm happy to fudge it. This puts her on her own, friendless, on the streets of Westcrown at night, which plays in to her Shadow Child trait.

What do you think?

I also had some rules-type questions about how you want to do deafness. I have Bellflower Secret Sign and a chalkboard to communicate with, but what about lip-reading and speaking? The only lip-reading rule I'm aware of is for the zone of silence spell, which says it is DC 20 linguistics; that's pretty tough, and putting points in linguistics doesn't really seem to fit the character. Some GMs (as I have read on the forums) allow a Perception check instead. As for speaking, she's not actually mute, because that is a different curse. But most deaf people have a hard time sounding normal when they talk, because there's no feedback. Should that be a Bluff check?

No problem there, but after hours of homework, one does get lonely...

Fair enough. I guess this is the only campaign you're playing in?

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Apparently, now we are having a relaxed campaign?

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Sophone's heart swells with pride.

At last! A real mission!

Her fingers fly through the air, so animated with excitement that they are hard to understand. .:I can do it! I won't let you down, Roscoe.:.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Should we respond in spoilers?

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Updated Sophone's backstory slightly, to incorporate the changes I mentioned yesterday.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

I'll take half+1 for my HD.

Amazing how easy it is to make a build when there's nothing to build...

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Here I am, as I was.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

The mouse has actually been dead a long time, it's dried up and not so stinky.

26, so.... A memorable performance! We shower you with 1d6 ⇒ 5 gold?

Sophone stares wide-eyed at the capering Lupi, as though she has never seen dancing before. She slowly gets to her feet, and then tries to imitate Lupi.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 <-- untrained

She moves gracefully, gliding silently across the floor like a pale shadow, her tattered skirts waving about her. Her steps are tentative, and lack the polish of Lupi's confident steps, but her performance is oddly moving.
When she is finished, she once more writes on her chalkboard: I had forgotten. Thank you.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Sophone starts and pulls away as Lupi hugs her, but then relaxes somewhat. She pulls a piece of chalk out of another pocket, and writes on the slate around her neck, "Mouse likes you." She holds up the mouse to show Lupi.

Remember, Sophone is actually an adult, and only smaller than the rest of you because she's on the short end of halflingdom. She may look like a creepy little girl, but she's really a creepy young woman.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Sophone pulls a dead mouse out of her pocket and holds it to her ear, as though listening to what it's saying. She rocks herself slightly as her eyes dart among the members of the boisterous group. She nods solemnly, as if agreeing.

But with what?

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Silelia, did you mean to put your character in the other all-halfling campaign that's starting?

I have no objection to the character, she seems to fit this campaign. 6 is starting to get big, and I definitely wouldn't want a 7th, but I expect we could manage.

I like that we have an all-halfling party with no rogue, yet the rogue class features are getting grabbed through archetypes of other classes. (Unless Waltz is still planning on the ninja? Still not really a rogue.)

Female Halfling Commoner 1

Here's a backstory. It's a little darker than the other ones I'm seeing in the group. I left the end open, for Chapter 0, or to tie in with other characters' backstories. Sophone could also have contacts from before her years of slavery, either siblings or connections through the Bellflower Network.

Please, someone else use a bonus language on Bellflower Network Secret Sign Language.

Female Halfling Commoner 1

@Ringtail: Is sign language okay for a language? In the other campaign I played in where there was a deaf oracle, we called it "Katapeshi Thief Sign."

Creepy...
