This is one of the best prepainted minis I have ever seen. I have one from a case and one from an open box vendor, and I was even more impressed with the case mini. I had to do the boil and bend trick to her wicked staff on one, but that's a small price to pay for a mini I could never even assemble or paint on my own. This IS the BEST medium sized mini overall in plastic prepainted in my opinion.
My Matriarchs were all poorly constructed with 2 large and noticeable seams on each one, on the snake body area and left shoulder. This adds to it's uninspiring pose, paint, and detail even if executed perfectly. This would not have been an issue, however i got 3 Matriarchs and and 2 regular Lamias in the case. On the bright side, I love the 2 regular Lamias, great paint/pose/sculpt.
This is one of those figures where the amazing-looking pic almost does not do this mini justice. As a child, the Type III demon was my favorite, and this revision blows away what I thought this creature might look like in sculpture. Well done!
This mini didn't look so hot in the pictures, however I was very impressed by him after a closer look in person. It would look great as leader of a small group, not too fancy, but with a touch of authority.
In terms of this being a series meant to boost your number of one type of creature, the builder series gets 5 stars. It was just what I wanted and needed, and buying the display gave me a nice cross section of minis with doubles just where I need them. Also, the bubble pack inside the bag is a nice touch for transport after opening (it is two piece and locks onto the mini base)
I ordered this and a box of Undead Horde booster singles, and I must say, as a person turned off by recent (is in last 20 years) RPG products in general, I was impressed. Just take a look at some of the older 80's/90's era metal minis and then at this bad boy, and you will see the progress being made in both sculpture and painting of these rpg tools. Stuff like this gets old men like me back in the games!
