It has been a privilege playing with you all.
Together we made quite a unique and memorable story with characters that for me truly came to life.
We each will finish this story in our heads an I am completely satisfied with how things turned out.
Good luck to all of you and I hope to game with you again sometime.

The following occured sometime recently during one of Smoog's evening Tinkering sessions...:

Back while traversing the Mental Realm, Smoog unwittingly attracted the attention of a singularly unique being;
a wanderer; a thing of pure mental energy; a seeker and collector of knowledge; and it has taken a keen interest in Smoog, (the one who crawls thru minds).
This entity who refers to itself as ‘Wee’ has been following Smoog’s mind and watching from a distance.
Now, as Smoog tinkers with his new Assistant-Armature-Construct, ‘Wee’ slides its consciousness into this new machine.

“Greetings, Mind-Traveller. Wee bring you good tidings.”
Smoog expected his new mechano-companion to animate but this level of sentience was a little much to comprehend.

“Wee are not accustomed to occupying the physical realm but your construct was unoccupied and Wee are here now.
Wee wish to converse.
Wee wish to know about you and your kind.
Wee wish to know more but this is a proper place to begin.”

Smoog stammers for a second before launching into a long conversation with Wee about Metaphysical Existence, Temporealism and Transcendence,

The two speak at length, and near the end of their conversation Wee agrees to accompany Smoog as main resident of S.I.R.U.S.,
operating the physical nature of the companion-construct as well as acting as an aid and advisor and providing access to the cosmic data bank:
S.I.R.U.S. 2.0 takes shape...

S.I.R.U.S. 2.0 is now a full functioning companion having Warrior/Protector stats of +3 total (+0/+3, +1/+2, +2/+1, or +3/+0) reconfigurable after adequate tinkering.
S.I.R.U.S. 2.0 uses robotic appendages to accomplish whatever needs doing and can anticipate most things as if telepathically communicating with Smoog.

I kind of like it.
I bet the crazy antics we are about to unleash will end up showing us how better we are as a team and not romping about on our own.

Soup-Spoon calls out in fear, "Smoog! Help!"
The blue Gadgeteer maneuvers the ship's controls to level out the decks as well as extend some gang planks in Spoon's vicinity.
When he sees that the portly cook has regained a grasp on the ship, Smoog launches the sky skimmer forward and aims it to the green glowing tower across town.

Smoog yells in UnderCommon to Spoons and Ordo for them to "HANG ON!"; trusting that the birdmen could fly well enough to react...

Then, manipulating his newly commandeered controls, Smoog violently pitches the airship down and to one side.

The ship responds more easily and more rapidly than he had hoped for or expected and...

A second beam snaps from Smoog's burning eye and cuts a hole thru the wimpering human's forehead, silencing his struggles.

"Up to the DECKS and cut the mooring ROPES!
Let's get this thing FLYING!" Smoog
yells.

He moves quickly to find the ship's helm and begins figuring out how to steer and control this flying fortress.
Jury Rig the controls...: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 = 8 to interface with his assimilated gear.

Over the past few weeks, Smoog has been slowly integrating his gadgets into his harness making them all more responsive and synergistic.
There is almost a semblance of animated sentience to the combined contraption and when he wears the suit of synthesized equipment, they respond almost as though they can read his thoughts.

The gadget suit's mechanical arms and appliances reach and spin as they get familiar with the ships controls.
It takes a little of the suit's own energy to complete the connection but soon it's metal and wood interface with the ships hardware and within a few moments the airship strains against the hawsers, yearning to be airborne.

The laser cuts across the attackers exposed shoulder.

Rallying his little team they all tackle and subdue the slave before any more ruckus can be made.

Using his nimble and lithe little body Smoog leads his small group in and out of hiding places trying to gain access to a sleek and sturdy air ship...

Still perplexed about how these ships could have gotten so damaged, Smoog riffs thru a few keen hypotheses trying to narrow down the possibilities...
Spout Lore on large scale fire-damage sources: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13
'Normally I would just assume a dragon had breathed upon these hulls but in light of the recent dragon culling, I doubt it was any of the Great Wurms nearby... hmmm...
A siege engine could do this but the damage is so wide spread... Reason and logic lead me to conclude that it was probably magic but specifically it must have been...

Team Phoenix Hawk climbs up the access ropes to the underhull of a particularly airworthy ship.
Smoog sets his key into the hole and opens up the hatch.
It seems the catering crew cook had a master key so he could service any ship that happened to dock that particular day.
Up inside, the boarding party takes a look around...

Smoog readies Steamer for a little bit of covering fog and puffs out a low wispy blanket behind them as he clears the doorway passed the guards.

They hug the edges of the docks for cover and head out into the massive vessel-strewn boatyard...

"Bloody Bugbear Balls", Smoog whispers to those close by.
At the cacophonous sound, one of the guards cocks his head and looks in thru the gateway toward the city.
Smoog grabs the magic spoon from Spoon's apron pocket and sends a nearby barrel rolling down the street away from the vicinity of their hasty hide-away.
To draw their attention event further, he magically slaps the rear of a cart horse and pushes over a rotund housewife carrying a basket of sweetrolls on her head.

Hoping that had created enough of a distraction, Smoog watches the guards reactions and hands the magic spoon back to the slightly-perturbed kobold cook.
"Sorry about that, mate. Did not have time to warn you," Smoog whispers.
"If those guards need more urging to leave their post, 'spoon up' some more trouble with this thing like I just did."

"I presume these will deposit us just inside the walls.
I hope there is a gate or portal up there that will allow our escape to the Air Docks?"

With his hands on his hips and a short-tempered burst of blunt curtness, Smoog dresses down the down-headed twitter-fiend...
"I understand enough to know that being above the clouds will be safer than in this lightening-laced squall.
I should think birds would know that already and be thankful for the chance to soar above once again.
If you need further assurance, I hold here a key to one of the Sky-Ships.

The wings should be sign enough that my path leads where I say!
Hurry now; before I change my mind and pick a more amenable crew."

With their major concerns addressed, Smoog continues thru the kitchen to the exit.
"Spoon; Ordo; Do you or any of these other fellows here know the sewers-way to the Sky-Ship lots to the north?
Lead us there quickly, please."

Smoog slinks away from Sees and her verbal admonishment muttering to himself.
Obviously dejected, he heads toward the flock of Strixeez and whispers to them as he passes...
"If she thinks she can keep you from flying again she is dead wrong.
Follow me if you want to get your wings back."

Smoog then heads thru the kitchen and calls for Spoons, Ordo and any other kitchen staff to follow him.
"Grab some sacks of food, we have a mission!"

Tossing the airship key from hand to hand, Smoog leads his flight crew out of the Temple thru the sewers towards the Air Field...

Smoog approaches the small gathering of Sees, Greas and Retzack.
Without listening to what they were talking about when he walks up, Smoog somewhat excitedly starts talking...

"I have noticed that those birdmen are having a difficult time fitting in and relating to our merry band of misfits.
Perhaps it is because they feel ashamed at their mutilated wings or maybe they are just naturally peculiar but in any case...
How about I take them with me to the Airship Docks and help them secure a vessel fit for taking them to the skies again.
I am sure they have a wonderful grasp of aerial combat tactics and I could benefit from any education they could provide me on the topic.
Their return to flight status would surely boost their morale and perhaps cement their loyalty to our group.

Yeah, I agree that PvP is stressful and less fun than setting our sights on the Big Baddies we need to be chasing.
If this is being RP'ed for character development that is cool.

Also I hope we are all clear this is an in-game conflict and NOT us busting on a player.
A while ago, Smoog was set upon by some other characters and it felt a little personal but then I saw that it was just in-game and not players trying to run me off.
I tried to become a better role player and Smoog became a better character because of it.
-
I like Retzack as a character and enjoy the different perspective he brings to the game but sometimes a character's story arc takes them to unexpected forks in the road.
If Retzack is destined to become a Zombie Master with hordes of undead wading across the Aqir Wildlands toward The Splendid City of Bastion that is cool for him and he will make a great ally in our final fight against the Paladin.
Whether he stays with us or heads his own way is up to him I guess.

I was thinking I would try to use one of my gadgets to mind-meld with you to allow you to speak thru me and possibly better articulate your stance/issues/argument.
So Mind Conduit is not a move in itself, just a renamed gadget move thru the mind device.

Hearing words fly around like knives and wanting nothing more than to duck out and hide from all this, Smoog realizes that the only one who can convince Retzack of his passion and sincerity is Thunk himself so...

Smoog tries something he has been meaning to for a while now and it seems it can wait no longer.
With his Mind-Device he reaches out gently and slowly, announcing his intentions out loud to Thunk.

"Thunk, I have watched and listened to you for weeks now and I have long suspected you are only speech deficient and not mull-headed.

I open the way thru my mind and you can speak thru me if you desire."

"Yes, maybe we do need to solidify things here in ESTR first before embarking on other missions.
We have already sent the city leaders reeling and we should hit them again before they regain their balance.

Maybe some of the fellows downstairs can tell us about the city leadership hierarchy so we know who best to eliminate."

That evil Necromancer and his giant zombie amalgamation were quite terrifying and dangerous... not that great a challenge huh? . Smoog whispers to himself.

Then Smoog's gaze turns toward Tanard but his words are aimed at Thunk.
Dragons have always been sacred to us Kobolds.
Tanard is our Queen; our Future; our very Life and Breath.
I will devote all I have, all I am, to Her service and Her glory.
Thunk, you are now Her Priesto-Primo, Her Champion and Her Loyalty Focus.
You now guide my zealot's passion and advise me spiritually.
I swear to do Red 'Nard's will.
I swear to live my life only for Red 'Nard.

Then he addresses Greas on the details of the machine...
"I need a potion brewed from Zephyr Lilies, a rare species of flower found on Marannon, a mountaintop far to the east of here; part of the Green Ridge Mountain Range I think.
It will take us into dwarf territory quite near Lord Krondor's domain."
AND...
I need a dish-shaped metal object fashioned of pure silver which I will mount to the ceiling of the time chamber itself. This will focus the time-dilating energies into a coherent sphere around the subjects."

So many things were happening so fast that Smoog was having trouble prioritizing the most important missions and needed some advice from the others.

Rounding up Retzack and Greas he heads back up to find the rest of his group gathered in the Library Stained Glass room.
Smoog then starts in with a few thoughts and observations aimed mostly at Sees, Thunk and Krish but Oadir and the others are certainly consulted and included.

"We are quickly taking on the huge task of completely liberating or subjugating; depending on how you view the issue; the city of ESTR.
We could of course leave that business to the newly freed slaves leaving us free to continue our Dragonslayer hunt.
Now that Tanard's existence has been made public, we have more to worry about and keeping her safe will be much more difficult.
I had thought about trying to magically age her into adulthood quickly so she will be more able to protect herself but that project requires several difficulties that we do not have time for right now...so...

What next?
Do we commandeer an airship and go after Krondor?
Do we gather the items I need for the Age-Machine?
Do we head after Twinkletoes? or that nasty Elf-Lord?

Smoog stands in awe as he witnesses the transformation of Thunk into a full-fledged War-Priest of Tanard the Red
and again as Sees unleashes green death on the town cavalry.
It soon dawns on him that with this display, Tanard's existence is no longer a secret;
word will spread of the new Red Dragon and her minions wreaking havoc on ESTR.

He begins rummaging and foraging thru the heaping pile of books left from Sees earlier search
looking for a manual he is sure would be in a Time Temple library, "Dudley's Differential Dilation" or "How to Move Months by Faa Woo Tang" or any treatise on time manipulation.

Smoog laments that he has never really had sufficient time or facilities to fully realize his Master Artificer capacities but he is not going to let that get in the way now.
He has to bring baby Tanard up quickly; past adolescence if not nearing young adult if she was going to ward off the onslaughts he was sure were coming her way.
If he could build a Time Bubble maybe he could whisk her thru a few years of aging and get her older, stronger, wiser quickly before her enemies could close in on them here in ESTR.
Either that or they must run.

I am enjoying Retzack's character exploration and growth.
Whether he has the greater party's best interest in mind when he does the things he does is debatable but that is what makes the dynamics of this group so interesting.

Quickly becoming overwhelmed by the swelling response, Smoog recognizes the need to organize this throng of thugs and thieves.
He finds Soup-Spoon and Ordo and gets them back to the kitchen and puts them in charge of the food stores and meal plan.

"We have a huge number of mouths to feed all of a sudden and cannot risk the new guys devouring it all in one day.
Hide, lock up and secret away all that you can and start preparing a simple and reasonable meal for all the new creatures."

He then heads down stairs to the wine cellar to see about sealing it off for now.

If this store of spirits is discovered, the whole lot will be drunk for days and of no use to us at all!!!!

Smoog will settle for using his mining expertise to cave in the hallway if no other method of sealing or blocking access is apparent.

He then heads back up to the main hall to start organizing the growing spectacle into manageable teams.
Gathering groups of 10 at a time Smoog looks for one on that team who seems to have self-confidence or at least some common sense about them
and hands them a rag or strip of cloth scrounged from the dead bodies Retzack piled up to use as a rally banner.

The next group gets a red banner and the task of gathering all missile or throwable items brought to the shattered window upstairs.
