Try the Classic Ninja for inspiration?
Why use Combat Trick on weapon focus instead of using the weapon training talent? Sounds like a waste.

I think he used the weapon training talent for shuriken at level 6.

Ahh, totally didn't catch the combat expertise part. Silly me. I think I'm with you guys as well at the level 1 break point. I would much rather have the extra feats.

1) I realise that crane wing doesn't specifically say you use your unarmed strike, hence the "flavour-wise" part of my sentence.

2) I don't think you would be able to offset combat expertise penalties with the bonuses from the feats and the class.

Having had a look through the PDF, the Aldori Swordlord prestige class is absolutely beautiful for a Dex swordlord. Dex to damage and the Aldori Dueling Mastery feat at first level - worth a dip for that alone.

I haven't thought enough about how it compares to further levels in the archetype though, or how it would stack up for a Str-focused build.

Thoughts?

My one problem with the prestige class is that it now takes away the opportunity to use unarmed strikes with it if you want to use the deft strike ability. Can you unequip unarmed strikes? Or does this mean as long as you don't use unarmed strike that round you can use deft strike (which I assume is how it's meant to be)? Also, how does that tie into the combat style feats (like crane wing) since flavour-wise you are using your unarmed strike to deflect? I definitely like the prestige class for its uniqueness, but you might as well not try for that 2 level dip into Master of Many styles if you plan on taking it. As for me, I've thoroughly enjoyed my strength build with snake fang and don't plan on touching the prestige class.

I'll just add that Crane style is nearly mandatory. You have a free hand, at least reap all the benefit that you can with it. Combined with steel net makes your defensive combat have no penality and granting you +6 AC and free deflect. Just skip the last one of the 3, it utterly usless for you.

My math is giving me "no penalty with +5 AC."

Normal Full-Action Defensive Fighting is -4 Atk/+2 AC
Crane style reduces the penalty to attack by 2 and gives you a +1 Dodge AC bonus, which makes a total of "-2 Atk/+3 AC"
Steel Net reduces penalties for Full-Round defensive fighting by 2 more and increases the dodge bonus by 2 more, for a total of "-0 Atk/ +5 AC."

Am I missing something?

When you have 3 ranks in acrobatics you gain another +1 AC when fighting defensively.

Anyone?

I'm actually in a similar situation so I'm curious about the answers to these as well.

Thanks! I'm actually a bit surprised there isn't a lawful alignment requirement but it's nice having it open to a wide variety of characters.

Would someone be so kind as to post the prereq for the Shield Marshal? Do you actually need to be a gunslinger to get into the class or can you just use the amateur gunslinger feat? Also are the Legal Judgments that PDKM mentioned in his preview similar to inquisitor judgements?

Awesome! Thank you guys! Now for the long wait until the 16th comes around...

Would any of you be able to post the requirements for the Aldori Swordlord? I'm currently playing the fighter archetype in my game and would like to see which feats, if any, I may need to pick up.

Iaijutsu shouldn't have been relegated solely to the Magus.

Wave Stike + Quick Draw should work right?
where is 'wave strike'? I checked PFSRD and got nothing.

Ultimate Combat. It lets you feint as a swift action when you draw your blade in the first round of combat.

Weapon Focus is good for one thing you have omitted here... prereq for the feat tree (believe it's called snapshot; don't have UC in front of me and it's not up in d20pfsrd.com yet) that lets you threaten with ranged weapons at 5-10 feet, which is nice for a gunslinger (particularly with combat reflexes). Maybe more useful for a pistolero type that's consistently going to be at mid- to short-range for engagements (as s/he'll be closed with more).

That's basically the way I'm going with my pistolero. Though I took a level of divination wizard at level one to be the fastest gun in the west :)

The problem is that Startling Shot is a standard action so you are not able to do a full attack with it.

Me as well. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one.

What are your guys thoughts on the serpent strike feat from the Eberron Campaign Setting (ability to use the long spear as a monk weapon)? Is it worthwhile? Being able to flurry at 10 foot reach seems pretty nice.

If it is possible to demoralize several targets with on check what is Dazzling Display good for except as a prerequisite?

A different, and far superior effect.

Intimidate gives the 'shaken' condition, DD on a (very easy roll) has them running away and suffering significantly more substantial penalties of they are trapped and HAVE to fight.

Dazzling Display gives the same condition as intimidate. They both give shaken. Dazzling Display is an aoe use of demoralize.

Each opponent takes one standard action to demoralize. If you want to take the time to demoralize each opponent you can (which then becomes the "opponents" that you put in bold) but you will only be able to do that to one enemy per turn as we only get one standard action per round. Dazzling Display allows you to make a full round action to demoralize all enemies within 30 feet at once.

Yeah, I think that's a great way to go about it. Good thinking with upping the size category. We've still got a couple more "blood pig" games (from CotCT) so I'm sure this will come up again. Thanks for the help!

This came up last night in our game. A character was grappling with an npc when npc#2 attempted to bull rush the character. Is there anything in the rules for this? Would npc#2 push both characters or just the one? Any help is appreciated.

Great guide! It's definitely helped make my bard more enjoyable in the game. Any plans on adding an equipment section? I noticed both the Ranger and Wizard guide had one.
