Kers grins for the first time at Xochtli. This whole thing is a bad idea. Hard to make it much worse.

I know that, I'm just getting to an origin of the custom of removing one's shoes and why it can be considered a big deal to people.

One more perspective... If the house has carpet crawlers, and you are coming from a place that has had lead paint in the past (even if it was remediated etc) taking of your shoes SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the risk of lead poisoning for those kids.

I am another Northerner who asks people to take of thier shoes. Most do, and the few that are askance at the request, I am not going to sweat. Conversely, it is often weird for me to go to someones home and leave my shoes on, though I take my cue from the host.

I find it hard to believe that there was no ATM nearby. Pizza is ordered on the first night. No money no problem. Next night when pizza comes up you should have said "Let me run to the ATM". Problem solved. And you know even if it is out of network or whatever, paying that fee will remind you of your social obligation and will keep you in the good graces of those you play with.

If you are not the host you bring something to share. Always. Even if they do not seem to like it. And if you get that vibe, choose something different.

If you like milk at the game, bring milk. And leave what is left for the host is a classy way to go.

I think it comes down to this IMO, you get booted and instead of trying to make any sort of ammends to the people you wronged, you come to a message board for support? And then when most people (after listening to your side and likley there are other perspectives here) disagree with you and say you are in the wrong you argue with them?

You and people like you are one of the reasons I do not have a face to face group. Who wants to put up with your lack of manners and cluelessness? Who wants to argue with you about our opinion after you asked for our opinion? I do not know, but I can only imagine this charming way of handling social interaction spills into the game, and frankly I play for recreation. You screw that up for me by being difficult and I am all set.

In short, I am guessing they were more generous with you than you deserved. Apologize. Pay what you owe to them. Learn your lesson and move on.

Congrats to all who entered. We either won the round or pushed ourselves as a designer, which by itself is a win.

Thanks to all the judges. It is an honor to have our work reviewed by your collective talent.

And thank you Paizo, without whom we would not have this contest or this fine game.

Three cheers to us all, everyone!

Does anyone have any advice on writing an adventure path? The things that sme as difficult is 1.) Not railroading the players while all at once making sure they get the plot points that lead them to the next months adventure, and 2.) Making sure that they do the things they need to be an appropriate level when they get there.

How do the pros do it? How do you do it? How should I do it?

8) Haggle with shopkeepers. ASk if they have an adventurers discount. Ask where you could get coupons.

9) Get all the details. ALL OF THEM.

DM- "The forest is quiet and the trail continues to the left. Around you there are small forest creatures doing thier fall activities. Toward the..."

PC- "Are there squirrels?"

DM- "Erm yes, I guess so..."

PC- "Exactly how many?"

DM- "You can see maybe a dozen or so."

PC- "So precisely 12 squirrels?"

DM- "Um, yes... 12."

PC- "Can I determine the gender?"

10) Tell the DM that you want to act out your character sleeping.

I would love to play in Gregory Keyes world of Fool Wolf. I loved those stories. They were very smart and Robert Howard-like.

I started my boys, at 8 and 6 on the 3.0 orange box. It comes with adventures and gets you straight into playing. You learn mechanics as you go. Paper minis and maps, as well as having adventures that resolve in a few encounters really worked well. I even spiced it up a bit by leaving notes on the breakfast table on game day with a hint of what was coming. "Please help, the unicorn is missing and..."
