![]() In the splendid hall of Sif, goddess of battle-skill, on the plane of Asgard, the radiant goddess pouts prettily. 'Tis not meet that fair Mikey Jay hath abandoned yonder Silver Tower afore gaining mine gift to him, The Bifrost Blade! To boot, that reborn Raven-god hath won through but small trial a sword of equal power! The Valkyries attending her nodded in agreement. Sif shall right this wrong, mine Valkyries! She turns to one of her Valkyries. Ulfrid, I charge thee a task! Take this, mine very own blade, to the hands of Mikey Jay without delay! The Valkyries all gasp in shock and disbelief, some even daring to protest.... Dost thou delay in obeying thy Lady's command? Ulfrid bows and takes Sif's great sword, a long, broad zweihander with rainbow-jeweled hilt and crossbar, and races from the hall in a trail of aurora lights.... ![]()
![]() Meanwhile, the goddess Sif descends to Midgard in a magical chariot drawn by a pair of fierce immortal rams (once the conveyance of her long-dead husband, Thor), unseen by mortal eyes.... She arrives behind the parking garage at the rear of The Silver Tower, the newly-forged Bifrost Blade wrapped in a gray cloak in her arms.... Her appearance instantly changes to that of one of the recently-slain cult priestesses as she passes through the entrance doors, barely noting the corpses of chimera, Morays, and priestess sprawled amid broken glass and an exploded office desk in the street outside.... She hurries up the stairs, pass 12 floors to the penthouse, recently converted to a temple of Dread Cthulhu..... Barely acknowledged by the piscodaemon and the hideous chernobue qlippoth lurking therein, she places the bundled artifact upon the altar and unwraps it.... A gift from the gods.... She murmurs with a devious smile.... Wield it with honor, Mikey Jay.... she whispers.... Without another word or glance at the evil fiends in the penthouse-temple, Sif, Norse goddess of battle skill and widow of Thor, turns and strides out of the Fane of Cthulhu and down through the 12 lower levels to her awaiting chariot, resumes her true shape as she steps into the divine vehicle, and races off to Asgard in a rainbow-hued flash of light! ![]()
![]() Sif admires the beautiful crystalline greatsword, glittering like a prism, and awakens the red flames to dance along the blade.... Then she calls upon the blue lightning that ripples amid the flames.... Finally, she activates the corrosive motes of green acid energy that seem to fizzle along the translucent crystal blade.... She swings the Bifrost Blade, smiling at the rainbow trails that briefly trail the whistling, glass-sharp blade.... Indeed, this is a sword worthy of a hero! I thank thee, King Under the Mountain, and shall reward thee with great vigor, returning youth, and increasing wealth! ![]()
![]() In her hall in Asgard, gazing into a divination pool, Sif, goddess of battle-skill, and one of the few Aesir to survive Ragnarok those many millennia ago, watches The Fierce Ones as they cut down the pack of ghouls.... Brave and excellent Fierce Ones.... Worthy art thou to wield the hammer of mine dead husband, Thor.... And worthy art thou to win Midgard from the Great Old Ones! She watches as Derrik hews and cleaves with Excalibur, and smiles.... Most noble Derrik, known also as the Arthur.... Thou hast Excalibur in thine hand, and Dawnbringer, as well.... The Great Old Ones shall quake before thy mighty wrath! She watches Koran crush the skulls of ghuls with Mjolnir, and lets out a peal of pretty laughter.... Oh, Koran, known also as the Demon-Hammer.... Verily, I say unto thee, Mjolnir hath found a worthy wielder once again.... Let the Great Old Ones tremble before thy fury! She watches Mikey Jay hack and slash with "Betsey Jo", and purses her pretty lips in a pout.... But why doth Mikey Jay not wield a legendary weapon? What is this "Betsey Jo" he swings, that giveth him pains whenever he strike down the foeman?.... Dashing Mikey Jay must have a weapon worthy of a hero! Sif plane shifts to Nidvallr, subterranean realm of the dwarves, and manifests in the court of The King Under the Mountain, whom she compels to forge a greatsword worthy of a hero.... Oh great and clever King Under the Mountain, most skilled of all dwarves.... Sif hails thee and seeks to employ thy craft!.... Forge for me a greatsword worthy of a hero! I give to thee a long shard from Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge that linketh Asgard and Midgard.... Potent be the prism.... Make of it a blade like no other, and thou shalt have the thanks and reward of a goddess! Sif smiles radiantly at the ancient Dwarf-King, who seems to grow somewhat younger in the radiance of the goddess' glory, and somewhat less dour.... |
