About Shutakasuma

Shutakasuma (Wayang Shadow Puppeteer)
Shutakasuma is an exceptional wayang. He willingly mingles with people from other races. Despite brief captivity as a slave, he became fascinated by other races. He could never quite understand how large clumsy folk could actually use magic. He was later befriended by a human druid, after spying on her for months. He eventually became a guide to adventurers travelling through the city of Eleder. He became a Pathfinder Society member after a somewhat unfortunate encounter with an obnoxious novice from Cheliax.

Early Life of Character:

Early Life of Shutakasuma ("Little Shadow")

Shutakasuma is a rarity among Wayang. He's one of the few who willingly mingle with other peoples. Which means he's slightly less reclusive than most.

Shutakasuma and his clan are from the forests of Sargava. They go to great lengths to avoid outsiders as dangerous threats. And not without reason. Several decades ago, Shutakasuma was captured by a Chelish adventurer who mistook Shutakasuma for a gaunt sickly gnome child. Before he could take his novel new "pet" far, though, the Chelish clod was killed in his sleep by the stealthy relatives who came to rescue him.

This ordeal actually piqued Shutakasuma's curiosity for outsiders. Much to the chagrin of his parents, Dotulwarto and Jugumisti, Shutakasuma often led his elder brother Guyutari and younger sister Yasikadi to view humans from afar. His siblings soon tired of this reckless behaviour, but Shutakasuma never did. He spied on humans this way for more than twenty years of his childhood without being caught. He was always curious how humans could cast spells, since they seemed too large and clumsy to use magic.

Things changed when Shutakasuma spent several months spying on a mwangi druid, Siwenomsa, finding her nature magics fascinating. Siwenomsa knew she was being followed. But not even her her panther, Namalahle, could track her pursuer. Only with her magics, and luck, did Siwenomsa capture Shutakasuma. It was the first time she beheld a wayang, but she saw that he was no threat and befriended him. They became good friends and taught each other new things about the forests they call home. Siwenomsa even taught Shutakasuma how to use magic to create some clean drinking water every day.

It was through Siwenomsa's kindness that Shutakasuma realized not all humans were enemies of the wayang. He finally mustered the courage to do the most reckless thing any wayang could do. He entered a human settlement: the city of Eleder in Sargava. Much to his astonishment, his appearance did not cause much of a stir. Everyone seemed to think he was a rather gaunt sickly gnome. Shutakasuma even learnt the Gnome language to make it easier for people to think he was a gnome.

Shutakasuma soon found he could make good money guiding visiting adventurers to the forests of Sargava. Although he took care never to lead anyone close to his clan's forested home. Everyone in his clan thought he was completely unhinged, of course. Until he brought them valuable tools and creature comforts he had bought in Eleder. Always making sure nobody had followed him back to his clan.

For his service to the clan, and for steadfastly keeping outsiders away, the eldest member of the clan, Sabetahùnwarno, taught him how to become a proper arcane shadow puppeteer in the wayang tradition. Shutakasuma proved himself to be a capable study.

One night, while Shutakasuma was looking for prospective customers at Eleder's docks, he overheard a Chelish novice adventurer making lewd remarks about mwangi druids; like his good friend, Siwenomsa. This lout was completely unprepared for the shadow magics that soon had him at death's door. Only with the greatest difficulty, and use of magic, were the city guard able to find and capture Shutakasuma for this attack. The captain of the watch, Chartigus, condemned Shutakasuma to to use his own magic to heal the Chelish novice. He was also sentenced to buy Chartigus and his men a round at their favourite pub. Captain Chartigus also told Shutakasuma never to attack Chelish visitors ever again (if there was anyone watching). He also 'forced' Shutakasuma to join the Freedom's Edge faction of the Pathfinder Society, as a 'penance' for his crime.

Personality:

Usually reserved, but also curious about just about everything.

Motivation:

To find out more about people. Big people in particular. And to cause problems for slave owners every chance he gets.
