Latest update from my campaign, they've cleared a bunch of the Forest encounters, and just last session discovered the Trog Caves. Sunday they will be tackling that. I expect the clearing of the caves to be two or three sessions. Then planning on Fahrak coming after they have taken the caves to lead them into Camp Red Jaw.

So I do have a question and am looking for some suggestions. They found All-Eyes Wood and found the half-burned note. Aubrin was the one that suggested going to look at that location. As I understand it, Aubrin has been to Fort Ristin but doesn't exactly know where it is. In Trail of the Hunted, she directs them to the All-Eyes Wood location then in Fangs of War she admits to knowing about the other forts. How did folks handle this and directing them towards Ristin and Nunder and Trevalay.

Looking at this post it should probably have gone in Fangs of War, but thought I'd ask here to start that prep work for that book.

Thanks.

Since others are sharing, thought I'd add mine.

Started in September last year and have 9 players now. Lots of times they divide up into two groups of four. They've been clearing the Chernsardo slowly. They have just discovered the Trog caves last session.

They have missed some of the forest explorations and I've had to adjust timing of events a bit. Going to let them explore the Trog Caves and then have Fahrak appear shortly after they clear the trog caves to start to lead them into the Camp Red Jaw portion.

Greetings,

I have been waiting to run this AP since it came out and finally after numerous delays, I have finally begun. It's been the first one that I could really sink my teeth into.

Someone earlier in the thread commented that they had 6 players, I am currently running with 8 players and me.

Starting classes included:
1) Human Maestro - Interjection Games
2) Oread Protean Scribe - LPJ Design
3) Fetchling Riven Mage - Rogue Genius Games
4) Human Fighter
5) Human Cleric
6) Halfling Druid
7) Dwarf Cleric
8) Human Spell-Less Ranger - Kobold Press

Gave them 1 full day to wander around the festival and the town. Several have connections to the town. Got the players to create a bunch of NPC's and establish their connections. Played up Aubrin to start them in the Inn for when the attack came. Starting them at Spring Equinox and the dark of the moon. When the attack came, they split into two parties to rescue as many as they could. Only one they didn't was Vane Oreld. Since they were split in two groups of four, pretty much ran the encounters as listed. Plus random ones in town. One of the groups made the bridge before the other, and I started the encounter In Media Res, where they had lost a few NPC's totally random selection. A couple of the death's hit the characters hard. Upped the difficulty at the bridge since all 8 were present. They did manage to collapse it with some difficulty, since nothing to blow up the bridge. I had two player's on their last legs after the encounter.

Fled to the forest, they pushed hard and made it fair way into the forest. Overall they escaped with just over 30 refugees. For the forest, I used the hex map that someone made that I found further up the thread and they are using a modified Hexploration rules for this first section. They've found Veld and a few other encounters. They are getting close to the Trog caves so probably next session. They are liking the resource management for the care and feeding of refugees and so far so good. It is going to start to get tight if they don't find the trog caves, but they are getting closer. Hexploration has been a mix of the planned encounters and then I am using Raging Swan's Wilderness Dressing tables to add depth to the forest. That has generated a couple of random encounters as well, a couple of which resulted in a run away and nearly dead result for a couple of the PC's. They are splitting the group into two groups of 4 to fully explore each hex, which has been working pretty well. They are now dealing with the Rogue Hobgoblin slaying an NPC, and we ended with that discovery, last time. About to encounter Orlu. When all 8 PC's are present I have been adding additional creatures to encounters and upping their hit points to max to accommodate the larger party.

Working on planning out the Caves and Camp Red Jaw which I saw folks had posted about above. Going to be reading those for ideas and advice.

Raging Swan Press is still publishing 1st ed. stuff. Rogue Genius Games just released a 1st ed. Wildshaper. Legendary Games have released a couple of things fairly recently as well.

Best way I can think of is to look at Drivethrurpg, filter by Pathfinder 1st ed and then when the list appears sort by the date added.

And apparently John Norman continues to write additional volumes in the Gor saga, with the last one looking to have been published in 2016.

Quite honestly, 2E causing some people to leave is a feature to me, not a bug.

^^^^ Best laugh I've had all day! Thank you!

Best news I've had all year. :)

Thanks.

This is sort of an oversimplification, but it's got a fair bit of truth. I do my own taxes, choose my own titles, hire my own freelancers, and run Everyman Gaming pretty much exactly as I did for the past two years. The only different is that my products are listed under the RGG catalog.

I do agree, however, that I probably should be listed under RGG, if Owen doesn't object.

I didn't figure it was quite that simple. :) Since your stuff is now listed under RGG, I thought it worth pointing out and the only descriptor I could come up with from the publishing world was imprint. Mainly as an outgrowth of other changes in various 3PP catalogs. Abandoned Arts, 4 Winds, etc.

Thanks for chiming in Alex. :)

Top 10 Products of 2016 (so far):
01. Kineticists of Porphyra (206 points)
02. One on One Adventures Compendium (205 points)
03. Kineticists of Porphyra II (138 points)
04. Kineticists of Porphyra III (97 points)
05. Path of War Expanded (88 points)
06. New Paths 8: The Trickster (58 points)
07. Ultimate Psionics (53 points)
08. Monster Classes--Work in Progress (41 points)
09. Destroyer's Handbook (35 points)
10. (tie) GM Gems: A Collection of Game Master Inspiration (31 points)
10. (tie) Legendary Kineticists (31 points)

Not much to say here; there's no audio dramas or paper minis to skip this time. Lots of kineticists: several of the last 6 weeks have had four or five kineticist-themed releases out of the top 10.

Top 10 Publishers of 2016 (so far):
01. Purple Duck Games (443 points)
02. Dreamscarred Press (250 points)
03. Expeditious Retreat Press (205 points)
04. Drop Dead Studios (121 points)
05. Legendary Games (91 points)
06. Kobold Press (87 points)
07. (tie) Rite Publishing (64 points)
07. (tie) Rogue Genius Games (64 points)
09. Everyman Gaming (34 points)
10. Goodman Games (31 points)

A newcomer, Zenith Games, just missed the top 10 at 28 points. I find it interesting that the 10th place book (GM Gems) is by the 10th place publisher (Goodman Games). Perhaps it should be noted that there are only 19 publishers represented on the top 10 downloads lists in 2016 (so far).

Up next: the all-time lists!

And Everyman Gaming is now an imprint of Rogue Genius Games.

f one wishes to remove Pathfinder Paper Minis from contention, add Jon Brazer Enterprises (50 points) to the list.

This is the year Open Design changed their name to Kobold Press. There was about a month gap between the last OD product and the first KP product; part of the name change? Little Red Goblin Games owes many of its points to its Legendary Levels books. Again, even less dominance by SGG; more publishers are getting more points, it seems. I can't remember if I've heard from Headless Hydra or Abandoned Arts recently.

I'm saving updating the all-time lists for when I'm done with 2013 and 2014.

Headless Hydra quit producing material several years ago and somewhere on the boards someone had asked about them and someone else chimed in that they had talked to him and that Headless Hydra was on indefinite hiatus. The Mor Aldenn setting certainly had promise I thought as I was just reading it the other day.

Abandon Arts is now an imprint of Fat Goblin Games and I think Fat Goblin has been reworking the Abandon Arts material with their own trade dress.

And I have just finished collating all the top 10 lists I have in email through to October 3,2014 where Distant Scholars' data originally began. I will be shipping it off to him momentarily for him to digest and distill into all this interesting data.

Just eyeballing it, I'd say that SGG/RGG/OWC remains on top for most points, Dreamscarred Press and the psionics material continued to be present in the lists and Kobold Press had some nice showings. But we'll have to see what Distant Scholar comes up with when presented wih the rest of this.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I had some free time today, so 2011 data has now been sent off. Just from a rough review of the data as I was pulling it together, two things I don't see changing are the number 1 product and the number 1 publisher(s). But we'll see if my assumptions are borne out.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wow. It's really interesting to see how the data data changes and to see OWC/SGG/RGG sitting uup there at this point with over 2000 points is amazing.

I'm going to start culling the 2011 Top Ten from my email archives at lunch time today.

Ok, I bit the bullet and pledged for $5. My gaming budget says I should be able to handle this, but lately RL has seemed to have other plans.

Thanks.

Still a lot of work to go, spell lists, summon monster/ally lists, more publishers. I believe I have the Section 15 up to date as well.

Reviews are tough to write, to give each product a fair shake. I've only written a few and the one I am working on, has taken me far longer than I anticipated. Hoping to have it up by this weekend, maybe Friday. And yes, you are absolutely right about EZG, he is amazing.

And two reviews written. Love for the Universalist and the Corpseshaper's Toolbox.

One thing that I didn't include in my reviews simply because I didn't think it warranted it, and that is I tend to like introductory fluff text about the class or about the options being presented. Why you are presenting this, what I can expect, etc. Now I know every publisher is different and has a different approach to their gaming/publishing and I respect that. The introductory text just feels like you are easing me into the material. Again, it's just a preference on my part.

Take it or leave it as you choose.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think I punctuated that first sentence incorrectly. Endz, no, thank you! I do appreciate your desire for me to generate more reviews.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Endz, no thank you! I look at your reviews a lot of times when determining what to purchase 3PP, although there are some that are just no brainers, I buy it.

It takes a lot of work to read through a document and come to some conclusion about it's value to others. Have a lot of respect for the time and effort that you put into this. Definitely takes time to do right. That being said, I can look at something and decide if I like it or not, but whether something is balanced or not, balance being somewhat relative, I don't have a good feel for identifying. So kuddos to you for that.

As far as more reviews, I'll consider it...but you know how it is with RL sometimes, more than full time job, mortgage, family with young kids, most of the time I'm lucky if I have my character ready to go each week for game night. :)

Jacob, your first work, my first review. There you go! And you are welcome.
