![]() What it does do is encourage me to never use a disguise again, if they are that easily seen or broken through with the circlet. That's not something a DM should be doing. If you want to change mechanics, the actual rules, then you need to do it without limiting options that weren't already broken. Illusion is already risky, why should I be happy with the idea that a hand shake would suddenly give him a will save? There's a reason I kept the illusion minimalistic for this one and it didn't matter. You ask me to trust you, while at the same time removing a skill I was having a lot of fun with from the game as an option. And you might not intentionally be out to screw me but you definitely are screwing me out of fun. If that's how you want to keep things I'm redistributing my disguise skill into something else. Edit: You want me to trust you as a DM, listen to what I'm saying and why I'm saying it. Don't simply dismiss this complaint. It's a big one, since the disguises were a large aspect of the character. Edit 2: Saw your first post and actually, no, you're wrong. Interacting with the illusion means interacting with the illusion. If I had said as part of Seth's disguise he was wearing gloves that the illusion made, but he actually wasn't, and the priest touched his hand that would be interacting with the illusion. Right now, all I've described is his face because that's all I changed for this disguise with the illusion. ![]()
![]() Alright, now I'm entirely confused. He should have had that will save when he first saw me or not at all, since that's part of interacting with the illusion. Or at least more so then a handshake would be since I didn't say anything specific about changing his hands or skin coloration. Despite that, Seth still has a plus 10 naturally to Disguise, and finally the disguise doesn't make him look that much differen. If he see's through it, he see's a younger tiefling in the same guard who just rolled very high on his bluff. Jumping straight 'Spawn of the Devil' is far to reaching. ![]()
![]() "May the light of Mitra shine upon you." Seth says in a cheerful voice, completely ignoring the looks of disgust. He knew what he was getting into by coming as a tiefling and had chosen it anyway because it made his disguise far simpler. People would expect something would be wrong, but they wouldn't look deeper then skin deep because of what they saw. The blessing he offered to the laymen was a classic one, and in fact an older one as well. There were newer blessings that came with the change in culture but Seth had chosen that one in particular because it fit the general age range of his guise. "I can see my presence is already causing some trouble. Come, let us see if I can get what I need and be out of your fellows hair." Seth said, making others aware that he was aware of their looks. He said it in such a gentle tone though, no malice at all in his voice, and did so while leading the laymen away from Vlad. He didn't even so much as lay a hand on the man. He just started turning toward one of the hallways and continued to talk softly, making sure that the laymen had to follow to keep up. When they were out of the main hall, Seth would stop and turn to the fellow who greeted him. "I am Brother Anthony, traveling priest and scholar of Mitra." Seth offered both his name and hand with a disarming smile and that same cheerful attitude he seemed to greet the world with. With no doubt the man would take it, Seth continued. "I come here in the hopes of learning more about your forest. I have heard some rumors on the road and I'm deciding whether or not to investigate and see if there is something of true danger within them that is in need of dealing with." ![]() @Lil: The item that the Iron Circlet emulates is... Hat of Diguise
The disguise self spell has a limitation. You make yourself - including clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment - look different. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your creature type (although you can appear as another subtype). Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person or gender. As a Humanoid, your subtype's are limited to any other Humanoid race. As an Outsider, my subtypes are limited to other Outsider subtypes. Downside is that there are not many such subtypes. In fact, there is only one I'm aware of. Native. So theoretically Seth could appear as an Aasimar while getting the full bonus of the circlet and he may in fact do so in the future, but until I thought about it tiefling seemed the only option. @Argan: And I agree, Argan, but mechanically it's against the rules and I'm not really in favor of asking for things to be changed that are so clear cut. In character, I plan to play it off as how certain magics interact with him. Remember, as an Outsider (Native), Seth get's some pretty decent immunities to certain a certain staple of spells (Charm person doesn't work, you need Charm Monster. Same for Dominate Person). This is not a bad limitation as trade off. ![]()
![]() Not a choice. Trying to disguise yourself as another race doesn't work with the crown. Technically, Seth is a Outsider (Native). Unlike Humanoid (Elf/Human/Orc), he doesn't have another subrace that would work... Although I suppose he might be able to try for Aasimar mechanically. I might even think of how that would work too... Hrm... ![]()
![]() Seth smiled wryly and shook his head, "I will be joining Vlad at the church, though I imagine we'll be speaking to different sorts. Lil is far more skilled when it comes to handling magical wears." The tiefling grinned a little and then turned to the small woman disguised as a halfling. "Don't forget your list. This city is large, but if you see anyone in particular that you must have we can always ask the Baron to track them down. And have fun. I imagine this market will be quite interesting." Seth turns to Vlad, his aged voice speaking more formally to the one he had less interaction with. "I won't literally be joining you, so as to avoid stepping on your toes. I'm not sure what you're capable of in this regard but I'll likely be able to earn a less... formal discussion with the clerics there. You will likely not see me, so I would suggest not looking." Disguise: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36 With that, Seth would wander away from the group and find a place where he could change in private, moving his hands into the clothes within his bags. The robes he found there were exactly what he needed and in a matter of ten minutes, he would be ready. On the off chance that he was being followed though, Seth would cast two spells. The first would protect him from prying magics. The second was a spell to make himself invisible, and then leave his chosen alley way as stealthily as possible and find another with equal privacy to reappear visibly in. Stealth: 1d20 + 14 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 20 = 50 When he did finally become visible again, he was now in his new guise. It was an old favorite in truth, one he had worn for years. That of a Mitran priest. Rather then try and hide his tiefling nature he let it be obvious. Just as obvious was the holy symbol around his neck. The symbol of the god this silly country worshiped. His clothes were other wise simple, yet also clearly Mitran in design, allowing him to look like a humble traveling priest. He still looked older then his real age, as age was a sign of wisdom to some and age often earned respect where power meant less. Ready and smiling, the priest moved out of the alley way to greet the day. He seemed far more cheerful then the old man he had been earlier, greeting others with a grin, a wave and sometimes even a prayer. His destination was the church of Mitra, and his hopes were that he might find some knowledgeable and friendly priests there to help him on his journey. The best lies, after all, had kernels of truth in them. Casting invisibility and undetectable alignment. Marked them as used. His disguised is a well traveled, middle aged priest of Mitra. He was actually raised by them so he's pretty good at this one. ![]()
![]() Seth keeps silent, thinking the group had things well in hand, but an idea occurs to him based on something Vlad says. He eyes the man curiously, then says aloud. "The Baron will likely know of such a thing. We shall ask him tonight and if he has anything I shall pass it on to you come morning. Speaking of, do you have a particular way you would like us to reach you?" ![]()
![]() Seth hrumphs a little at that idea. The woman might have been doing her job but she certainly didn't seem inclined to make it easy on them. When they finally got to the bar, Seth waited in the corner for everyone to shuffle in, and then cast a spell on the side wall. It didn't take more then a moment for the sound coming from the bar to almost vanish. Though there was a slight murmur as it edged around the spell, Seth had carefully centered it to allow those within the room to speak without worry. Then without a word he wanders over to one of the corners to look at the others and see what they had learned. Casting silence, trying to angle it so that it's hard to notice on the other side of the door, but the 20 foot radius covers enough to make eaves dropping on us difficult. ![]()
![]() Seth shrugs his shoulder lightly, as if getting a weight off of it, and a light breeze shifts his hood for a moment. He otherwise remains silent, though inwardly he's sending emotions through his link to Atral, the invisible imp who usually perched on his shoulder. The imp knew what his master wanted though, just from the timing, and silently set about to see how many and for how long he could follow the witch's help. Atral's Stealth: 1d20 + 20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 + 20 = 45 Atral Stealth Breakdown: +6 Skill ranks (He shares the skill ranks seth has), +3 class skill (stealth is a familiar class skill), +8 size bonus (tiny), +3 dex, +20 invisibility. Seth in turn looks to Argan as well. The man had been babbling about this dragon head before but the tiefling had been distracted by what looked like a young halfling beside him, silently begging to murder a servant. "Shall we walk and talk? I'm afraid that, while making quite the impression, your appearance is not exactly subtle... And some of us wish to be able to show our faces without others connecting dots." ![]()
![]() Seth does just that, gently pulling Lil without chiding her. He was smiling as well, though only she could see it beneath his cowl because of how close she was. When the Seventh arrives Seth immediately begins to eye each of them. His shoulder moves a little, causing his cloak to shift and open, and he pulls his pale grey hand back into its folds. He eyes them all curiously, no more affected by the woman's grace then he was affected by Vlads. Instead, he lets his pale eyes, one of the few visible points of his face beneath the shadows of his hood, look over each of them. "If it isn't the Seventh. Exactly what we were expecting and told." Let them make of that what they will. No doubt the arrogant would think it good, but the paranoid... Seth hadn't actually been told much at all about them but they didn't need to know that, certainly. His voice carried not too far, maybe enough for any that milled around, but he was certain the oddity of this group would either draw or banish curiosity. The woman certainly wasn't helping with that. He wondered if that was intentional. 'Did they have something to gain for letting us get caught?'Not quite breaking the oaths, Seth mused, deciding to keep watch on the group carefully while the more senior members of their own knot spoke up. Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
![]()
![]() Lil. Did we make the scroll of Desecrate the night before? And do you want to eat the costs or would you like to split it? (I'd personally like to save as much as I can for more situational scrolls like remove disease and such, to keep the slots I have focused more on aiding the group in battle. That said, making scrolls of desecrate free's up slots for me to so either way works.) ![]()
![]() "Ah, I see. In that case we should probably look at the guards who have received promotions or who are especially good at getting their way and are sent out with tasks requiring such skills. What do you think?" He knew the very basics of undead but hadn't bothered much to study it. His skills lay elsewhere. That he was able to help Lil with a few spells he could call on didn't mean he'd ever be as capable as her when it came to undead. "Perhaps we can ask the Baron in the morning? It would give us time to prepare that spell you like so much on a scroll tonight to have it ready." ![]()
![]() Seth smiles when Lil looks at him pleadingly, shuffling along with the group rather convincingly despite the fact that he was keeping up with them. "Quite a pretty one. She would make a wonderful new friend." He says under his breath, "But I doubt we could hide her. Soon enough, my young friend. Until then though keep an eye out. Maybe make a list if you see someone you really want?" Seth looks at all of the pretty paintings and seems largely unimpressed by them. Their conversation didn't seem to have much to do with the Horn but you never knew. When they walked by a young guard, a male not as pretty as the made but with a full suit of arm, Seth would lean down and whisper, "How about that one? Not as pretty to be certain, but probably not as nice either. You'd be making his life much better by making him your friend." And as he had hinted at during their earlier conversation the armor would do well to disguise the creature's nature, at least for a time. Not to mention that so long as he was willing to entertain the idea, Lil was less likely to think he was trying to control her and more likely to think he was just being cautious. She was extremely intelligent so Seth did try and avoid such games all together though, lest he have her angry with him. He wasn't sure if he could stop her in the end considering how potent her magic was, and how he was not a typical cleric, so it was just a matter of keeping her from exposing them all. ![]()
![]() To be fair Seth is still a decent babysitter. He might point out that Vlad is already a friend, and that trying to -make- him one would mean she'd be able to make one less friend elsewhere. No idea if it'll actually work but there are possibilities... One of them just happens to be Vlad failing his save constantly. XD ![]()
![]() "I have many guises." Seth replies, grinning some more, "And since being gifted this crown they are quite effective. Age is a very useful tool. That is all I'll say for now on that. As far as keeping up, I am far more nimble then I look, though I am certainly not a combatant in the physical sense. My spells are my greatest strength." ![]()
![]() Seth looks at Lilpinny and thinks briefly about taking the drink from her. Instead he leans down and says in a low voice, "Try not to have too much, my friend, or it will make our plans for later, for making you some new friends, quite difficult." Seth himself had had a literal sip so far and seemed to be going for his second. He had enjoyed the drink but he was careful not to let it fog his mind, not quite having the constitutional fortitude that his other companions seemed to have. ![]()
![]() "Her name is Lilpinny, by the way. And sometimes she gets so excited she makes other peoples introductions seem insufficient by comparison. She's very sweet though." Seth chuckled a little, then coughed a little, then chuckled a little. It was a harsh series of sounds. When his throat settled he spoke again. "I am quite able with debilitating enemies and healing... allies. I am also skilled in the arts of deception, stealth and subterfuge. And of course my god grants me power, spells, magic, however you want to call them." ![]()
![]() Seth eyed the three curiously. Three warriors of a sort. But good ones, from what he had heard. That they hadn't been told about Lil or Vlad said a lot. It was quite curious. Thorn, games within games. This would be fun. The brief flash of yellow and white as fangs appeared was Seth's answer for the first few seconds. The invisible weight on his shoulder, hidden and silent, shifted ever so slightly. "Seth la Kor is my... title. I am a priest of our wondrous god, and a skilled one at that." ![]()
![]() Seth was amused by the way Lil jabbed at him. She was such a curious creature, sometimes. At the offer, the tiefling stood slowly, leaning on the table as he did. "Such manners in one so young. Lil, shall we be polite and accept their offer?" He was hunched over only a little. His already short height served to help the older disguise, making him seem frail. ![]()
![]() Seth normally has a very diametrically opposed appearance. On the one hand, he is shorter then the average male at 5'7 and carries little to no muscle. What is there is lean and hard, but mostly undefined. On the other hand his skin is a solid crimson throughout, his eyes glow a brilliant red, his soot black hair hangs to his back and is framed by long red horns sticking out of his forhead. All of that is touched off by a slowly swaying tail, thin and narrow that ends in a point much like an arrow head. Normally. Today his disguise is that of an aged and wizened tiefling. His skin is ashen grey, as if it had been something else over time and faded over the years. While not quite as dark he had grey hair as well hanging from and framing his face beneath the hood he wears, which has deep shadows hiding much of his features. His eyes, a once luminescent white reminiscent of the moon (or so he claims) barely hold a glow now, having slowly faded over decades to a hint of their former beauty. He coughed again, causing his hood to shift only slightly thanks to the Iron crown wrapped around his forehead, just above to horns the same color as his skin (or his disguise). The tiefling was quiet for the most part, only glancing up and around every once in a while, and only speaking when spoken to by the teenage halfling. ![]()
![]() Lilpinny: Just realized I marked my last edit: two! spoiler's with Seth. XD That's what I get for not having caffeine today.
"They would have to be if they were your friends, of course. You're so nice yourself after all." Seth offered her what he hoped was a kind smile, and his eyes turned toward the door as well. If she was of the mind to she might notice that even he was getting a little impatient. "That spell I have that you like so much is one of my more potent magics. It might be best if we might start purchasing some scrolls rather then continue to use my own energy on it. That way, if we come across anyone special you want to make your friend, we don't need to worry about my not having it. I imagine with our new line of work that might be a common occurrence, as we'll meet so many interesting people, no doubt." ![]()
![]() Seth: The tiefling wasn't certain if she was being truthful or crazy. Either way it reminded him to be wary of this one. As erratic as she was, she controlled powerful magics. "Do they now? You will definitely have to show me later, when we make a new friend for you. Well then, with your luck the Baron will do the opposite."
Another chuckle escaped his throat, followed by a convincing, if underplayed, cough. "That sounds like a good idea, if we're careful about it. A bunch of nice friends in this new city we're in would be most welcome so long as they don't get you thrown in jail again. If that happens they won't let you make any more friends, that's for certain. And neither of us want that." If you ever need an evil Baby-sitter for your villainous children, henchmen, or erratic ADD undead spellcasters please call 555-3845. We promise to instill only the most important lessons in your children, such as how to hide their crimes, hide the bodies, and lie to the authorities. Again that's 555-3845. ![]()
![]() Seth: The tieflings immediate response was to bite his tongue as his tail flicked about. The thought was definitely amusing, all things considering, but it would also be tremendously hurtful to their cause in the city. "Why would you want a stuffy old fart like the Baron to be your friend? Why, I bet he'll find a way to talk even without a tongue and then where would we be?"
Seth let out a raspy chuckle that hurt his throat only a little. He had been practicing it after all. It sounded like that of a true elderly person. "Perhaps we can ask for one of his guards though. They've got shiny armor and those big pointy helmets with the odd feathers on them. You could probably stick a lot more feathers to their armor if you make any bird friends, too. Not to mention the armor might let them hide. Imagine a friend you can take with you through the city." ![]()
![]() Lilpinny: The ashen skinned tiefling eyed the small gnome with some amusement, grateful that most people tended to ignore such eccentricities from her race. An old, rather decrepit voice spoke, "You said the same thing about that dog, and where is it now? That's right, the guards found him. I'm afraid that until your a little more responsible with your pets we should be careful."
Seth's smile was mostly hidden by the cowl, but the light of the flickering hearth nearby gave some hints to it. The Iron circlet hung on his head, as he had been instructed to wear it, but unbeknownst to most who looked upon it, it was doing more then simply sitting atop his cowl. Its magic and his preparations had let him taken on quite the convincing guise. An old, nearly decrepit tiefling with Ashen grey skin, many scars and wrinkles, and eyes that seemed to be dimming to the point where there was hardly any light at all in them. "Perhaps... later though. Remember that spell I used at our village? Knowing I would be working with you, I have taken the effort to prepare it. We can make some friends that will last much longer. But we'd need a bit of privacy or the guards might take them away again." Her quick change in subject didn't surprise him. Ontop of meeting her before, he had been waiting with her for a while here, and he was presently quite certain she was incapable of focusing on one thing for more then a few seconds. It was a wonder she was so skilled in magic. "Soon. The fool Baron probably kept them late. You know how stuffy people like him are. Always have to say so much." ![]()
![]() Vlad, that interaction is gone. Reset. Kaput. Vamoosed. It no longer exists in the context of our RP. Our current interaction with the Baron was our DM's second post. Basically, you guys spoke to him, and got everything you could from him without any effort. I guess? We will also be redoing the interaction with the other Knot as well, again as his second post said. If we picked up where Jammin had left off, all of that would be the case. We have not. ![]()
![]() Lil- Unfortunately my vote is to redo the restart. Jammin actually had us interacting with NPC's and each other by the time we were in the city, Lil. Now all of that's gone and ontop of it, Seth can't even actually participate in some of it. We've just had two character interactions so I guess we can judge. Vladamir Orlovsky- It's a game. I'd like to actually enjoy doing things rather then being give stuff. I enjoyed the interactions we had with Jammin. I feel the first two posts from our new DM were arbitrary resets that threw us forward and lacked a good deal, ontop of cutting Seth out of some interesting character interactions. ------------ Oh, and I'm not holding the game up either. Seth's not part of the group yet remember? ![]()
![]() I'm still not against a reset from Jammins if you guys absolutely want it but my complaints about how you did it still stand. -Cutting even parts out for some of the party is not something I'm for. Tree guy liked to push things too, if you guys remember, and it didn't exactly let things develop either.
Your first impression was a bit rushed. It took me three attempts to read that first post of yours because it was so long it actually hurt my eyes. ![]()
![]() It was your choice to make your first impression a sump up. And yes, I'm a little annoyed that in a game of power plays, cunning and planning Seth was cut out of the interaction with the Baron. He had set a steady rapport with the guy and I had stretched my legs with one of his disguises, both interesting developments that aren't even possible now. As far as the rest, again a PM. ![]()
![]() -That was an incredibly dialogue-heavy post there, one that threw everything at us and then literally pushed us on without any chance to respond. As far as I've seen, this group really likes to respond, to be players and creatures of thought and action, not just adventurers accepting quests and going on their way. @Seth And yes, I did changed some things, such as how Lil and you were introduced to the party, and no, you still did not joined the party, since Argan, Vlad and Kharn did not posted anything about going in the inn to meet you. You prob should be asking, why I did that? Well, you already done this part about three times, if I'm not mistake, There's no reason to do it again, really.
Then why do it at all? All you've done is reset everything that Seth and Lil have done so far. That doesn't seem to bother Lil, but it does bother me. Why not just start us where we -were-? Well, I see here you have the complete wrong Idea about this. I’m not remaking what you guys did in the previous games, as I said up there, it’s just a sum up so you don’t need to leave the thread to consult in case you need it.
You're mistaken or contradicting yourself. In our last thread we had already spoken to the Baron, Tiadora, and Elise of the seventh knot and were now exploring the forest. So we're basically doing all that again, all you have skipped is the boat ride.
worthy, and I believe they will be an excellent addition to your group.
And don’t get things wrong, you are not yet with the knot, yup I changed this part, as you are well aware, not because I did not wanted to do anything new by myself, but because I wanted to do new by
Except we did get to roleplay it. Yes, Thorn was a bit of an ass but that's basically what I expect from him. By doing what you've done, I will still have to write the same things I did last time. (Going to the church, talking with the Baron, etc.) So you sorta of contradicted yourself here. And its not new. Its the same way the last Thorn did it, only more confusing, and we're now in a tavern. He rushed the intro because he's an ass and will leave it up to me and Lil to really make the introductions.
All the points I made above. You, in fact, changed just about everything that the last GM did. We are not where we were, we are very nearly back at the start in this city, and if you wanted to save us that then your current posts won't. I would suggest giving the last three or so pages of that thread another read, actually, if not the whole thread. Also, still haven't heard back from you about my question. And no, I would rather it not be answered in the thread. ![]()
![]() Everytime I see Aku I think its the Omen alias. Friiiiiicking hate this website. Have to re-write this all over again. Aku, I know you probably mean well, but that was pretty... rushed. A few points. -That was an incredibly dialogue-heavy post there, one that threw everything at us and then literally pushed us on without any chance to respond. As far as I've seen, this group really likes to respond, to be players and creatures of thought and action, not just adventurers accepting quests and going on their way. -The baron's introduction (and hell, even our entry to the city) was also handled far differently by the last DM, where we got to ride on a boat, interact with each other, interact with the scoundrel ourselves, and deal with him as if he were a person rather then a random buff we have in the city. -Same with our interactions with Tiadora. It might not have meant much in the grand scheme of things, but having her interact with us, have conversations with us (even annoyed ones on her part), and even allowing my imp to trail her at one point made her a part of this story. Now she talks at us to and then actually teleports away? I didn't even know she was capable of teleporting, but why would a woman of her knowledge and intelligence reveal that to us to begin with? -If you wanted to jump back to where we were or close to it I could understand, but that's really not the way to do it. We have everything else posted from the last DM who did quite a competent job. Keeping that would have let us keep a lot of our progress and cost us nothing, rather then... well getting talked at, and robbing all of those moments of any weight or value to the characters. -Seth and Lil's intro is also a bit rushed. Again, I can understand wanting to speed things up, but we already had a good introduction, why not just let us keep it if you didn't want to do anything new with it yourself? ![]()
![]() Alright. Dropped the scroll (375 g), dropped the headband of mental prowess and replaced with Headband of Inspiring Wisdom (3000 gold), and dropped the Agile Mirthal Breastplate and replaced with a Mithral Chain Shirt (3000 gold). I think that's right. So around 22k - 6,375 should be just beneath the 16k mark. Might drop something else to leave some money for scroll creation but otherwise I think I'm good? ![]()
![]() @Aku: No worries, I expected that the pre-made stuff might go. Thanks for letting me keep the rest. It's not exactly do or die but I still like how he was built. Now to decide on a headband of wisdom or a headband of charisma... XD Probably Wisdom for more spells and what not. The ability scores were actually fixed. I switched around my additional ability point to put it into Dex, so that it stays at a fun 20. Everything else got dropped 1. (Int is at 13, adjusted skills for that, and so is con, still need to adjust health though.) And yeah, the traits are... I was actually hoping for a few more options from Thorn but Asmodeus is with you fits so well. XD So thanks for letting me keep that as well!
