Ha!

I like it!

Hi there!

Just wanted to say that I share the fears of the thread opener...
I prefer the 3.5 rules tweaked, but as it is now, the deviations are too much - this leads me to utilize mostly the original 3.5 rules, only allowing the improved classes as options. (My group and myself don't have that much playing time, so we tend to stick to rules that feel solid to us, my apologies for not-so-much-participating in the playtest)

I don't want to heat this debate up, it's mostly all said by the community I think, just want to put my voice in.

Hope you will work out a fine product in the end, dear paizo staff!

Greetings, Daniel

Here are some other issues with the use rope skill:

link

Surely didn't mean it in that context...
(but whatever you play, use rope might fit here as well...)

I agree with R_Chance.

Since ropes are used in various ways, why not just re-introduce the use rope skill?

Referring to that one little skill is much easier than to sort out and discern the various situations ropes are used, to keep these in mind and then apply the appropriate skill.

If the removal of a skill raises so many questions which skill is to use instead, it maybe shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

Greetings, Daniel

Thank you very much Mike!

Yes, both makes sense to me and I will handle it that way.

Pinpoint Targeting is listed as well as explained (p. 92), at least in the pdf, as for the print book, I unfortunately haven't got mine yet...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hi there everyone!

I'm planning to set a little campaign in Darkmoon Vale, which I think of as a tremendous location.
As written in "Guide To Darkmoon Vale", Vamros Harg is the judge of Falcon's Hollow.
Now my Question: Who is his official superior? There must be someone he has to report to other than his unofficial boss Thuldrin Kreed.

Oh, and is there a mayor in Falcon's Hollow?

Any hints for me? Thanks a lot!

Greetings, Daniel

Congratulations to the beta's success!

Can't wait till amazon ships mine.

Greetings, Daniel

I'm goin' to buy the hardcover.
If I'll buy the beta rules in a print version, I haven't decided yet.

Greetings, Daniel

Happy Birthday from Germany!

best regards, Daniel

Just wanted to say, I liked the last two player's guides very much, but especially curse of the crimson throne, due to the great background feats.

As stated above, hints for a favorable direction a player character's development should take, as a favored enemy selection and so on.

Common character names for the region might be very helpful, too.

Besides, great stuff so far.

May be a bit late, but I'd like to add my two coppers as well:

I would appreciate toning down the artwork a bit... a bit less of the hot chick approach would be nice. That said, it fits more to Seoni than to Amiri (a naked belly for a frontline combateer?).

The artwork of the other iconics, including the female ones and especially Seelah's artwork is outstanding. That's the way to go, in my humble opinion.

Concerning the elves' ears: Tone them down as well, please. The elves' eyes on the other hand are well done, I like that approach.

And finally, some words of praise for the rest of the art, the panoramic views we were allowed to get over Varisia so far are wonderful. Especially the one showing Magnimar in Pathfinder 2 radiates so much sense of wonder and awe...I'm not sure I've ever seen something like this before.

Hello!

Yes, it's really good to know these facts, many thanks to the thread openers and Vic!

Now I have got a question regarding shipping, too:

I'm a modules, adventure path and planet stories subscriber.
As for the shipping options, I can essentially select bundling all together or send every item seperately.

Now I'm ogling becoming a chronicles subscriber as well, but as this might increase the size of the packages, I wonder if the items could be split into two packages a month. Is this possible?

Greetings, Daniel

It's just great everyone agrees on this one. Me too, of course.

just to edit my own post above:

I prefer illusionist as a favored class for a GNOME. On the other hand, a gnome of Golarion with her strong ties to nature might possibly favor a druid...or is this to far-fetched?

Greetings, Daniel

I always thought that gnomes were assigned the bard as favored class rather arbitrarily...so that there is a class having a bard as favored class...flavor-wise I shuddered...

...so, I prefer illusionist as a favored class for rogue. On the other hand, a gnome of Golarion with her strong ties to nature might possibly favor a druid...or is this to far-fetched?

Rogues Should Not Cast Spells !!! Multi-Class Instead !!!

Classes are distinct and do what they do for a reason

I absolutely agree on that. Use magic device is fine for a rogue, but learning an casting spells...I don't think so...

I prefer the medium progression. I always had the feeling that characters advance to fast since 3E...

I think Deception works for the Palading as well, it's mostly the name that adds a bit bad flavor...

But regarding the combination of bluff and sense motive:
Only if one could do something does not necessarily mean he does it.
A Paladin could easily rampage around and slay the innocent with his holy blade, but he won't do that. Hopefully, that is.

NSTR wrote:
Maybe you are saying that was problem in 3.5 too though. Some classes can obviously max out their new skill easier than others though.

Indeed, in 3.5 you could "exploit" the system in that way...

but a GM could easily restrict it, as points could be given more gradually. In Alpha Release 1, it is more like all or nothing.

I fully understand that tweaking the skill system may be one of the hardest parts in design.

I have the same problems with paizo pdfs on Linux, including the missing As...It hasn't bothered me yet, as the same file can be viewed on windows perfectly.

I like the unification of certain skills to perception, stealth and diplomacy. Especially diplomacy, actually, as it now suits to different gaming styles. The conversationalist in a group can still talk to every single npc in town an nudge out the precious informations he so desperately seeks, while someone else can find clues regarding what's going on without paying by investing in an extra skill.

However, I think sleight of hand and open lock should not be combined.
Keeping them seperate adds more variety to rogue characters, as a thief mingling in the crowds to snatch some coins from people's pockets isn't necessarily a good burglar...

Regarding the aquiring of skills: please, please please fix this sudden potency of a skill one aquires at a level higher than first. One shouldn't be able to achieve "master status" in a skill one has never used before, and thus never been able to train it...

And now let me quickly add that I'm oh so happy what you do here with this game. Much appreciated.

Greetings, Daniel

Dear Paizonians!

I really, really, never expected this. What a brave move!
You totally overwhelmed me with your decision. If it will be, or let's better say WHEN it will be as good as it looks now, be sure to count me in to the ranks of the hopefully ever-growing community of people supporting your products in years to come.

YOU ARE THE BEST, simply put.

Greetings, Daniel

As a DM not started out before 3.5, I still know where it all came from...

so thank you very much Mr Gygax for your legacy...

rest in peace...

1) With a lot of 3.5 stuff on my shelves, I do not intend to convert as a GM. I'm quite sure that I'll get the 4.0 player's handbook to participate in games not mastered by me, should there be any around.

2) if it's mostly fluff, I'll continue buying it. If upcoming pathfinders or gamemastery modules can still be utilized using 3.5, that is, if I can convert them in a reasonable amount of time, I might continue both my pathfinder and my gamemastery subscription. The content is just too good.

3) I'll definitely continue my subscriptions. Also, my plans to order several books of the pathfinder chronicles line will remained unchanged.

Done!

In the campaigns I've been running, no one has ever played a gnome, but they have often occurred as NPCs. I definitely have a certain fondness for them...
and I promised to myself, when I start my next campaign as a player, my character will surely be a gnome...hmm, seems I've just restricted myself to 3.5...

4E...

I'm not planning to run it. As a GM I favor the 3E/3.5/3.whatever rules...

Participating as a player maybe...should there be a friendly nearby GM who feverously insists on running 4E and only 4E...but right now, I don't see that happen...

I actually liked HMSS' pacing...and some of its action sequences are cut brilliantly...but I agree, Lazenby's acting was the worst of the whole series...maybe due to the fact that HMSS was one of the deeper entries in the series...in another, more "typical" Bond film, he might have been remembered as not that bad...but we'll never know...

I'm afraid I haven't watched Ronin yet...
but regarding Mr Bond...very different opinions on what once has been my favorite movie serial!

So to add:

Top 5 before Brosnan:

1. From Russia with Love (Connery)
2. License To Kill (Dalton)
3. The Living Daylights (Dalton)
4. On her Majesty's Secret Service (Lazenby)
5. For Your Eyes Only (Moore)

Top 5 after Brosnan:

1. From Russia With Love (Connery)
2. License To Kill (Dalton)
3. Casino Royal (Craig)
4. The Living Daylights (Dalton)
5. On her Majesty's Secret Service (Lazenby)

Top 5 Bond Villains:

1. Auric Goldfinger
2. Blofeld, as played by Telly Savalas
3. Le Chiffre (Casino Royal)
4. Carl Stromberg (The Spy Who Loved Me)
5. Red Grant (From Russia With Love)

Top 5 Bond Girls (or is it Ladies these days ???)

1. Melina Havelock (For Your Eyes Only)
2. Honey Rider (Dr No)
3. Tiffany Case (Diamonds are forever)
4. Domino Duval (Thunderball)
5. Pam Bouvier (License To Kill)

Top 5 Bond Music Score

1. For Your Eyes Only (Bill Conti)
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (John Barry)
3. The Living Daylights (John Barry)
4. Thunderball (John Barry)
5. You Only Live Twice (John Barry)

The Bond actors...of course, Connery is a classic. Dalton is highly underrated, I think. Daniel Craig is very good, hopefully he will do some more. Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore both are some kind of schmugs, but Roger Moore is aimable. Brosnan is not, in my humble opinion...

Casino Royal is just great. Makes me forget the Brosnan flicks, which I really didn't enjoy very much...

I could discuss this forever, but I must go back to work!

My Thanks as well :-)

Daniel

Oh boy, this looks just GREAT!

Will planes and cosmology be dealt with in a way? Please?

best regards, Daniel

I'm quite sure that if I play at the end of 2008 - and hopefully I will -
it will be DnD 3.5...maybe spiced up with some 4E goodies, should there be any and if a conversion is useful.
But overall it will be 3.5.

For any kind of weird Goblin fight, I suggest Jerry Goldsmith's music from the film Gremlins, particularly the "Gremlin Rag".
I used it for the first encounters in Sandpoint, and it worked quite fine.

Best regards, Daniel

Started GMastering the following Group last Wednesday:

"Klops", male human fighter, "Klops" is just a nickname, due to his beefy and stout lookings.

Lynneth, female human cleric of Sarenrae, sister to "Klops".

Tchilli Nix, female Evoker of Chelaxian heritage.

Belkar, male half-elven ranger.

Nymora, female half-elven beguiler.

The characters were created using the point buy system, 28 points.

Thus far, the players have kept their backstories secret from each other, as the boar hunt with Foxglove hasn't occured yet, and I want to use the hunt as a possibility for the player's to reveal something of their story then.

More intersting than that might be the experience the players have with DnD: The evoker and the ranger are quite familiar with DnD 3.5, the fighter and the cleric are totally newbies to roleplaying (but dig in quite well, I think), while the beguiler is directly imported from ADD 2nd edition...

Hi Everyone!

I'd also like to know what Golarion's moon is called, what it looks like, what color, if one of the unfortunate PCs spots the Sandpoint Devil's black silhouette in front of it...

And the two other worlds, are they close enough to Golarion to be seen with bare eyes? Not just spotted, actually seen? Size of an Orange perhaps? Or a green watermelon?

best regards, Daniel

It depends on your GM style. Our adventure paths do make some assumptions, though; they assume that the PCs are well-balanced in their abilities, that the players aren't new to D&D, that the characters don't try to finish entire adventures without resting, that the characters try to use non-combat solutions to certain encounters, and that the characters know when to run away.

Five PCs with a 28 point buy build should be fine, though.

Thank you very much for the quick reply...

I think I'll stick with 28 point buy then and let's see how this plays out...

@Guthwulf: I just got mail that pathfinder 1 is being shipped...
as one single item, though, meaning that module D2 will come along with pathfinder 2.

Yup...me's still waiting, too.
