![]() I like playing roleplaying games, like Pathfinder, 3rd to 4th edition DnD, or what have you. Usually because nobody else wants to, I end up being the GM for these games. I have good story structure, plot development and hooks, but the one thing that makes all the others sort of fall short is that I completely suck when it comes to combat; the build-up of an evil plot and the threat of the Villains fall apart when the resulting combat is a piece of cake to the players despite the CR calculations, which means to me I'm not using the NPCs correctly or to their fullest potential. Specifically for Pathfinder, what tips and tricks are there to providing challenge for the PC's? Links, Book recommendations, and personal advice completely welcome. ![]()

![]() I am currently writing up a purchasing schedule and I have two questions about the Pathfinder Battles Subscription that would help my planning: 1. Do you receive coupons for 75% off of premiums when you purchase any case, or are these only obtainable from cases purchased automatically through the subscription? Example: If I'm currently subscribed, and I decide to purchase a Heros and Monsters Case, would I get a 75% off premiums coupon? (The next question can be disregarded if the previous question was "No") 2. When purchasing a ROTRL Case, would you need to buy the Case Bundle in order to obtain a 75% off premiums coupon?
Thank you for your time, sorry I've been posting so many topics lately but I came into some loose change recently and wanted to buy a bunch of pathfinder stuff :) ![]()
![]() Hello, I was taking advantage of the newly available non-mint selection as described on the Store Blog. However, I realized that there were additional Non-Mints suddenly available in addition to those described. In order to make a new order adding them all together to save on postage, I'd like to Cancel Order #2568058. Thank you for your time :) ![]()
![]() In general, who is this supposed to be cast on? What situations would this spell be the most beneficial? I ask because, reading the spell description, it seems to grant a couple stat bonuses, but the 50% miss chance goes both ways in terms of physical attacks. The effective spell failure seems to be balanced a little more in favor of the blinker, but I'm not sure anybody would want me to cast it on them, given that you don't want to waste your spells like that. ![]()
![]() Well there's always that "first to get it" thing, as well as collector value; I'm so lucky I managed to get my issue of Pathfinder AP #1 in a local gaming store for retail price, after looking up online a couple days later and seeing it selling on Amazon/Ebay for $100 or more. There's also things like errata to consider in considering this argument; do Pathfinder customers wait to purchase a rulebook or splat-book, under the assumption that they won't buy it until the errata comes out online or through a new edition? We can also look at this from a separate market of videogames; there are indeed people who wait for the price to go down, wait for used copies to come out, wait for the "Gold" edition with all the DLC included. But most don't, and the model seems to be working. Perhaps a difference between markets could be put forth in terms of consumer behavior and otherwise, but this is just what it seems like to me.
Although, they could always try starting a kickstarter (or similar model) for a compilation, adding the cost of writing off "dead stock" to the required budget line. Perhaps even including that dead stock as a tier reward :O. ![]()
![]() Wait, why is everybody responding to my quote with the $100 pledge thing? The $100 dollar pledge level has a bunch of MMO rewards which I wouldn't be using (seriously, even if I wanted to play my computer can't handle the games). So it's not a "Steal" from that perspective. It's like you didn't read the part where I said "separate from the tier options" or something and just assumed I didn't know how to find the pledge level with the miniatures. As for PDFs, I like the books I own to take up space on my shelves. So on top of that, I'd still need to take the Print Pack Option. ![]()
![]() I concur with the sentiment that it is annoying to have to change one's pledge after the fact; I like to only have to do something like that once, although not to say that I wouldn't, I just don't like doing it. While I did support the Technology Demo, I personally have little to no interest or ability to get into an MMORPG at this time, so I've settled at this time for the Print Pack (the miniatures are tempting, but unless they come up as options separate from the Online Game rewards I will be passing on them during the kickstarter) For that reason I'm hoping that the kickstarter passes, else I may not see the expanded edition of the Superdungeon published, if it is published at all. ![]()
![]() Yeah I was meaning the limited Invites. Maybe they're trying to pull a Willy Wonka/Cartman Land with it, where the limited supply makes it all the more valuable. I do think it could risk irritating people and stunting the growth of the game, but I have a little faith that they know what they're doing. ![]()
![]() Lemme just mention that "Korean Animation" can hardly be parried down to Anime; before digital technologies came along they were responsible for animating The Simpsons. Plus I can think of one Anime that is very...Fantasy Roleplay :) http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/images/bex/lodoss1_group.jpg Record of the Lodoss War foreverrr ![]()
![]() I'm a collector...so still coming to terms with the fact that I won't be able to get the entire set of certain adventure paths. Something I really wanted to get but so far it's been out of my reach is a print copy of A Magical Medieval Society: Silk Road. I already have the World-Generation Book, the Country Generation Book, and if I get Silk Road, I'll finally have the Economy Generation Book. ![]()
![]() Maybe ask if they'd mind you giving them names? It's sorta like how in those old Clint Eastwood westerns, you never knew the hero's name; he was just "Stranger". Maybe you can latch on to the fact that their characters don't use their names, so the people they help, their allies and enemies, start taking to calling them various names, some flattering...others not so much (Chicken Chaser!!!) |
