You know, I was looking at the pictures, and something's been nagging be about them, something familiar, and I think I finally figured out what it was. Almost certainly accidentally, they feel very similar to entries from ancient NES RPG strategy guides, like the one for Dragon Warrior back when Nintendo Power did one. Or maybe it's just the art.

Either way, that just makes me smile.

The layout may not be for everyone but believe me seeing one page on the screen does not give you the full effect of what this layout does. When you have the book in your hand and are flipping through it you will be able to find items a lot quicker and find exactly what each item does without scanning through walls of text.

...and yes I did that layout of Dragon Warrior for Nintendo Power.

I wonder whether the work on this product will influence the graphic design of future Paizo products? Were there any lessons learned during the work on this product that would make Paizo change the way that they would handle a (theoretical) revamp of the core rulebook? Was it possible to explain key elements of the system in a more concise way?

The thing with the monster stat blocks was to present the information without going too far from the original form that we use for our regular books. As you can see we used the same monster icons that are used with any monster stat block and the format is really actually the same just organized better I think. Not being a table-top gamer myself I wanted the younger players to be able to find information they will need quickly without reading blocks and blocks of text. That was the challenge for the designers! The hope is that they will use this experience and be able to jump into the regular books without too much trouble.

Craig J Spearing will be at PaizoCon on Saturday!!

Thanks! It was a nice break from the project I was working on!

This isn't the final cover design.

General rule for artists is to use real names instead of nicknames Alex is the cover artist for Pathfinder Companion Andoran. He certainly will have a lot more illustrations for us like the cover for the upcoming City of Golden Death.

I seriously doubt any sort of Artist Superstar will likely happen. The reason we have the RPG Superstar from what I am told is so that we can build up our writers list for freelance.

I have a long list of many professional artist and I also receive a lot of submissions that I sift through everyday so there is no need.

If you haven't noticed there is now an art submission email on the Contact Us page.

Time to put this topic down.

I agree!

I found it to be a funny card cause a made up person is dressed up as another made up person! HAHA!

All I have to say since I ordered the Holiday Pin-Up Seoni is I LIKE IT and "pin-up" was in the art order description!

We'll probably still have an index or chart in there somewhere that breaks out monsters by CR and by type, though.

Oooooh, I'm tellin'.

NOPE!

Asmodeus was done by Tyler Walpole and Iomedae was done by Eva Widermann. Both artists have a several illustrated pieces in the book. All of the art in the Gods & Magic look awesome.

If you promise to never, ever call it a manga again, I would be interested.

I agree! Call it Graphic Novel!!! Never Manga...EVER! Finding artists for this would be fun.

The actual color to this cover is dark bluish-greyish background with the black "darkness" creeping in from the left.

You are correct! Im surprised that you caught that!

Wes and James already answered for me but never fear, I am in the process to make everyone happy. There are many fonts out there and will be "testing" many of them for both space and readability!

In my four years at Paizo this is my first post on the messageboards. But since I am the art director for Pathfinder I feel this is a good place to start!

If you have liked the art in Dragon for the past year then you will probably like the art in Pathfinder (I was the art director for Dragon). Most of the artists used in Dragon will be in Pathfinder. Yes, I do have a list of rockstar artists that I can rely on because no matter what they always produce great work. In my biased opinion, the artwork in Pathfinder is awesome and the sketches I have seen in future books will also be awesome! (Wes and James agrees too)

As for the anime/manga issue...This argument could go on forever but for me I do not like this style of artwork. The whole childlike face on adult bodies creeps me out and so far I have tried to stay away from that and does not fit well for Pathfinder.

I am always on the lookout for artist to grace the pages of Pathfinder. My goal is to have Pathfinder to have the best artwork out there!
