Sam-12 goes down, unconscious from the damage. He did what he could for his companion, but in the end it was not enough. Perhaps the soul that will become Sam-13 can have a better, longer life.

Y'all, I keep losing track of this game, and the play-by-post just isn't working for me. Thanks for your patience, but I think this is the end of the line for Sam-12.

Sam-12 feels the spectral claw burn through his corporeal form and briefly wonders who will get this body next, if it is ever recovered after his soul has departed. A moment later he decides whatever the outcome he can't let this fiend wreak havoc on his companions, especially Sturm. Another swing with the force baton, then, but with a flourish to distract his foe.

Sam-12 does his best to maneuver around the driftdead and come at it from behind, then attack with the force baton.

Sam-12 knows not what he does, and—in a daze—he smashes himself in the forehead with the force baton in his hands, doing smack!: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 damage.

Sam-12 figures Sturm could handle that turret on his own, but since they're under a time crunch he might as well help out. Using his friend's bulk as cover, Sam attempts to avoid the turret's sensors before he moves up and lashes out with the force baton.

Sam-12 tests the heft of the baton as he follows Sturm back down the corridor. He decides it's wise to watch their backs back the way they originally came, where the blood trail leads to the stuck door. He hunkers down and looks around the corner, trying to remain unnoticed by anyone (or anything) watching from that direction.

Sam-12 follows Sturm to the locked door, because as much as he prefers not to be in the center of the action, he needs to watch his friend's back. Along the way, he does his best to look and listen and see if he can figure out where that screaming came from.

Sam-12 fires the cannons once more, but—honestly—he'd prefer sneaking around to such a straight-up fight.

It's far too late, but as Sam-12's fingers dance over the laser cannon controls one more time, he can't help but wish this was resolved another way. He has enough enemies in his past.

Sam-12 takes another shot with the laser cannon, targeting the weak spot as directed. But not because of the promise of lemon tarts. He hates lemon tarts, and Sturm knows it. He's never thought to ask before, but as his fingers punch in the firing sequence he wonders if it's just him, or all androids that can't stand lemon flavoring.

Since we already seem to have our opponent on the ropes, Sam-12 strikes while the have the dominant position. Best not to wait until they're trying to come from behind. He reaches for the controls to the forward laser cannon and fires at the Honorbound, doing his best to stick to the rules of engagement. In a life-or-death situation he usually wouldn't be so careful, but every time Sam-12 tries to tell Sturm the drawbacks of honorable combat he gets chastised for being weak-willed.

Sam-12 has never liked starship combat, or even starship travel all that much; it's just how you have to get from place to place. But he stands ready to pitch in wherever he's needed. As always, he looks to Sturmvanger to either follow his lead, or correct for any mistakes.

Sam-12 stands quietly in the corner and takes it all in. This isn't the most organized operation, but there is merit in hiding amongst the chaos. Sturmvanger tends to stand out, and doesn't worry too much about the threats he can't see, so it's usually Sam that's watching their backs.

Sam looks at the new arrival and puts a calming hand on his friend's shoulder.

Relax, Sturm. You know most people make that same mistake. We have a job to do.
