I plan on sending out the first turn this Friday.

Questions?

Game on!

This would be my first time playing a PBP, so how exactly does it work? Like how frequently will we be posting turns? And is there an allocated time-frame to do so?

Not the best of 'team players' out there but he's worth considering for starting the game.

Thanks.

I like the idea of not everybody getting along perfectly, adds better roleplaying opportunities in my opinion. And there is also the PC connections to factor in to make things go a bit more smoothly.

Armor:

Weapons:

Forearm Blade on right arm. 2 Dmg.

Backstory:

Dreithik has spent many lifetimes in the pursuit of knowledge. Why, When, and How? These are the questions that intrigued him the most and get him in the most trouble. Learning at a young age that he could converse with the dead, he as made it his mission to learn all he can about the Ninth World from them. This resulted in a few close calls of digging up grave yards and ritual cemeteries. Being shunned by others for his practice, he has spent most of his time traveling alone on his quest, learning to enjoy and trust the dead more so than the does with the living. Focusing brains over brawn, Dreithik has learned how to channel the coldness of death unto others through the esoteries taught by the dead themselves. Mostly using his power for profit by contacting lost loved ones for wealthy patrons, he has been known to embark on adventures if they have the promise of more answers and knowledge.

Appearance:

Beneath the black cloak and mask, Dreithik is the palest of pale, spending most his life at night and in dark depths finding "new" dead to learn from. He is a slender 5'11" man with a voice gone raspy from disuse and long black hair beneath the hood. Around his neck is a gold oval pendant that doesn't appear to match the rest of his attire, as it was his mothers who passed away while he was too young to remember, given to him by his father.

Personality:

Dreithik doesn't particularly like the living and believes that he is above them in some way. He will usually talk down to others and go about his ways unless there is something personally at stake that the dead cannot help with.

Rygarth, The Exiled Glaive who Howls at the Moon...

I like him too but we need to adjust some.

I want PC to be Tier 1, which is already above the rest in Numenera.

If 'howls at the moon' doesn't work, would a reskinned 'rages' work? I need to take a closer look and won't have time until a later today.

Good backstory. How about some description when he's not 'changed'? What about his personality? Look at my comments to Proud Grognard above?

In addition, does he regret his pact?

Questions?

Game on!

The reason why he starts at tier 2 rather than 1 is because you are able to take "handicaps" of sorts in order to start with XP, and I figured that being able to control the change was important enough of a skill to take those handicaps. He doesn't start with any weapons or equipment or cyphers/oddities, cannot be helped by others, and with the bounty part, he is constantly perused at every turn. But yes, I am fully willing to change things if you do not agree with them.

As for your questions,

When he is in control he is 6' and appears very gaunt, as if he hasn't slept in days and it looks as if his skin slightly hangs off of his body, as if it has been stretched recently. He has sort of wild-messy brown hair to his shoulders and a faded Elder Sign. His personality is opposite of the Voormis where he is passive of sorts. Coming for a respectable hunting tribe, he doesn't go out of his way to find combat unless it is completely necessary (Turning into a bloodthirsty savage is a dealbreaker too). If there is another way to solve a problem other than starting a fight, he will look for it. He is terrified of what he has become and has spent most of his time searching for Terrowin to see if there is some sort of reverse, without high hopes. He is pretty jumpy and on edge because he doesn't really know if or when he is going to lose control again. He has become very adept at not being seen by others in order to fly under the radar of sorts. He is very passionate about hunting and if put in a social situations, will relate everything he can to it and talk about it for hours.

He does regret the pact and tries to stifle the creature at all times. he has become something of nightmares, but on the other he has also received the immense strength that he was searching for, so he tried to help others the best he can with it (which may or may not end well).

On another note, I could just roll up a different character if this one doesn't work for you as we don't have a Nano yet, we still have a few days till you want to start, right?

Tracked down the sheet, I was pretty close.

Rygarth, The Exiled Glaive who Howls at the Moon.

Tier 2
Effort 2

Might 20/2
Speed 13/1
Intellect 7/-

Skills:

Armor/T
Balancing/T
Foraging/T
Finding safe places/T
Sneaking/T
Hunting/S
Sprinting/T
Jumping/T
Speed Def/T

Abilities:

Beast Form- +8 Might +2 Speed +1 Might Edge +1 Speed Edge
Cannot spend Int unless it is to change back at a Dif 2.
Change happens if might pool gets to 4(?) or lower (edited from the original ruling of moon cycles and what not, open to tweak it still if needed). While in beast form, the character is supposed to attack everything in sight with limited self control, which includes party members. After changing back, all rolls get -1 for the next hour if a mighty creature was felled, if not it is -2 for the next 2 days.

Controlled Change- Able to change on command at a Dif 3.

Successive Attacks- If I kill something, I am able to make a second attack on the same turn if another target is in reach.

Inabilities:

Other PC's cannot do anything to make my rolls easier, no effort or any helpful actions have any effect.

Inability of social interactions (explained in backstory).

Is currently pursued by bounty hunters (" ")

Armor:

Leather Tunic (+1)

Weapons:

Unarmed Dmg 4
Beast Form Dmg 6

Backstory (oh boy):

TL;DR: Big Tough guy accidentally signed pact with an Eldritch race due to promise of bigger muscles. Proceeded to Destroy and entire town on his own and is now wanted.

Rygarth was a mighty hunter for his tribe in the Caecilian Jungle. Large in stature, he was well regarded by the tribesmen, yet he yearned for more. One night he was approached by an elderly merchant by the name of Terrowin who seemed far away from where he should be. Terrowin said that on all of his travels across this land he has never seen a mightier man than the one that stood before him, but why should he stop there? Why be the strongest man if there are still beasts that could yet fell you? I know of a way that you can gain the strength of the beasts that you hunt. Rygarth accepted the unknown offer before him and was handed a small dusty, moth eaten book that reeked of the ancient times past. "In here you will find the strength you search for" were the last words heard before the merchant Terrowin disappeared into the night.

Inside this book were instructions of how to perform a blood sacrifice ritual, which Rygarth hastily followed. He was awoken by the sound of chanting and was surprised to find that he was completely bound in the Tribe Elders tent. As he groggily tried to remember the last few hours, the Elder was leaning over him, chanting and painting an odd mark on his chest. " I know not of where you found this evil magic, but you will not use it here. I have sealed what you have brought to this world inside of you. Now you must leave. You are hereby banished for what you have done"

Not knowing what has transpired in the last night, Rygarth had no choice but to obey. Nobody saw him off and he started walking to the land in the East, with a very light voice in the back of his mind whispering "Let me out, we are one and the same..."

Fast forward a few months of roughing it, the voice has grown louder and more dominant in Rygarth's mind. The mark on his chest burned constantly now. One night he found himself in a small fishing village of Pike's Head where he had been unloading fish form ships for a shin a day. Spending his wage in the local tavern, over all the laughing and yelling, all he heard was the voice. "You keep me captive for too long, Your magic has faded. I need to feed" The building went quiet as those words escaped Rygarth's mouth in a deep demonic tone.

He woke once more with no memeory, laying the the burned shambles of what used to be Pike's Head, the whole population slaughtered before him.

Notes:

The howls at the moon focus is described more like you switching placed with the beast rather than you turning into one, so I dug out my Cthulhu books and found a lesser race of hyper aggressive, savage ape like beings Called the Voormis. They look Like a mixture of Big Foot and a Predator. Like this.
When the switch happens, Rygarth muscles bulge a ton and his skin tone turns a grey or dark blue. Dark bristles of hair sprout and he grows razor sharp claws and fangs.

It's about 3am here so I'm going to call that that, let me know if I left out anything important.

So how does one apply for this? Just make the character on my profile and link it here?

I would be interested as well, I have ran more than a hand full of Numenera games myself and look forward to the opportunity to play a game myself.

I'll have to dig out my character sheet, but off memory I believe he was a Doomed Glaive that Howls at the Moon. I have altered the rules to the focus a bit in order for it to be actually playable without having to keep track of in game moon cycles. I can give more in depth description when I break the sheet out.
