Can I add as an aside, this game so far definitely has that 'first edition feel'. When I first started playing, we would come to the table with a couple backup characters ready to go because someone's character was most likely going down that night. We actually had a 'rule', don't get attached to a character until they are third level because a lot of them never made it that far.

I think in round eight we should start to try to withdraw, it will be tricky as it seems the whole tribe is coming down on us.

Rowan will do what he can to slow them down, though he could be potentially attacked by up to 3 orcs and may not survive through round seven.

I actually have a backup character rolled up should Rowan fall that could step in and help with the retreat.

Rowan's heart sinks as he sees Grimm and Elwita both fall again.

Rowans eyes snap open as the healing energy washes over him.

"It appears our fortunes have not improved significantly," he says as he regards the cavern and the onrushing horde of female orcs.

Round 7 - Initiative 15

So are you saying that Rowan and Elwita get an action since we are after Mott in the initiative order. I am going to post an action as though we are and we can drop it if not.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Thank god for the color spray!!!

I may be wrong, but a coup de grace does not require a damage roll. It assumes you are taking the 6 seconds in the round to make sure you are doing the job right.

I would say to make sure to dispatch the orcs and then we can worry about the healing.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Check to stabilize: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

sure, now I start to get good rolls

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

I say fire off another color spray, I like the idea of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Worst case, it delays our surrender for another couple rounds.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Here are the options as I see them.

Mot and Eldarian escape, we roll new characters to avenge or rescue the fallen. I have always liked it when encounters were potentially lethal. And I have been in many groups where deaths lead to good campaign moments and makes surviving actually seem like an accomplishment.

We surrender and try to escape. Good role play potential.

We take a mulligan.

My old school bones make me think we should go for the first option. If we can rescue those that are currently down, each player could then decide whether to keep the new character or their old one. I know this will slow things down, but feels to me like the closest to what I would do at the table if running the game.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

I have a plan that just might work.

Elwita move to FC41 and atk orc @ FD41

Rowan atks orc @ FB41 or if already down move perform coup de grace.

Eldarian move to FC42 and use your color spray, cone geets orcs @ FB41, FA40 and FA41

Mott move to FC40 and heal Grimm

Once Grimm is up Grimm and Mott go after Morgan, Rowan and ELwita head into cavern to right and finish those two orcs where rowan will have room to flank, Eldarian stays in cave mouth firing bow where needed.

If all else fails I think Mott should use a channel and lets start the fight over again, I am not up for surrender as I don't think any of us can communicate with them.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Seeing a couple of his companions go down, Rowan steals himself to make a stand.

"Things are starting to look desperate my friends, we need to end this."

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Retconing my action as I am lower initiative order, sorry about the confusion.

Rowan slips along the wall to his right to a position FC42, waiting for an opening to stab his shortsword at the orc. He tries to recall something bout this tribe from their appearance.

"If someone else has a light, I would like to put my torch away. I can perform much more effectively if I can move in the shadows rather than being a beacon." Rowan stows his torch.

With his short sword at the ready, Rowan trains his senses on the cavern ahead of them.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

"I agree we should try one of these lower entrances, closer to the entrance to the canyon, in case we need to make a 'strategic withdrawal'." Rowan digs out a torch, and draws his short sword, readying himself for delving into the unknown.

At any rate, we should find some cover. I feel exposed and like we are being watched out here."

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

I think this should work, the only thing I would say is that it would be nice to have the rogue in front to check for traps. I will also need to be able to move efficiently to get into flanking positions, which can be done from the rear. So being able to flip the order front to back when needed should be a good strategy.

I am not able to see the map. But I think we can work around it for the short term.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Rowan asks Morgan, "So which way are we headed, do you know any good spots in the wood where we can camp tonight?"

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

I am going to be in a seminar all day (Saturday) for work, feel free to bot Rowan if I am slowing things down. His main actions in combat will be flanking and sticking them with the sharp end of his sword.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

"I for one am looking forward to the take their stuff part of the equation," Rowan chimes in.

"By the way, did anyone else catch that 'ware the evil mage' bit the guards shouted down to us, I don't remember anyone in the keep talking about an evil mage."

Rowan falls in behind Morgan, keeping an eye on the ranger and trying to learn from her observations, this being his first foray into the 'wild'.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

"Yes, to the caves!" and rowan downs his small beer in one slug.

"If we are going out into the wild tomorrow, we should make sure we are well equipped. Do we have all we need for several days in the wild or do we need to stop at the provender. I know that I for one am going to need more trail rations."

Rowan is going to make for the general store, to pick up some rations and other gear (taken care of so we can move things along).

Rowan will stay in a private room to keep up the façade that he is being sponsored by wealthy interests.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Rowan asks Berta, "Berta, you mentioned before that the merchant was guild hall business, which guild hall are you talking about?"

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

"Well, it sounds like we have found ourselves a guide." Rowan quips. You can almost see the wheels turning in his head with the talk of fame, fortune, and bounties.

"Who sets these bounties and how do we go about collecting them."

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Rowan gives his order; "I'll have an ale and some stew."

Rowan regards the ranger, "You talk as though you have some experience with these caves, and from your appearance you have spent some time in the wild," standing, he offers her his seat. "Would you like a seat. We could use any information you might have about these caves."

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Rowan follows the group through the gate, listening to the guards description of the small community. He looks around the yard and laments the straights he has found himself in. This place is a long way from the streets of Gradsul.

"We are going to need a lot of ale to make this place feel cheery." he says to group. "It is never a good idea to eat alone, gives people the wrong impression."

Rowan falls in with the rest of the company and follows Berta to the tavern. When hearing about the reward, he perks up considerably.

"What can you tell us about the merchant and more specifically the reward?" he asks Berta.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

"I cannot say they are at this point, but I will be in need of stout companions before I head into the forest, so yes they soon may be."

Hey give Grimm a wink and says to him under his breath, "I would make no assumptions, but if you play along we might find out time in the keep much more comfortable than mere travelers could hope for."

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

Rowan gives a devilish grin as he sees his story has had a least some effect on the guards.

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

"Well met, I am Rowan the wanderer. I am here representing interests from Gryrax. It is said the local wood holds timber of high quality for building ship masts and I am tasked with finding the truth of these claims." He lies hoping to raise his stature in the keep. "If I should find my fortune in the meantime, all the better."

Male Human (Oerid) Rogue 1 | HP 10/10 | AC: 17 Tch: 14 ff: 13 | Fort: +1 Ref: +5 Will +0 | CMB +1 CMD 15 | Init +7 |

This is going to be great, I am seriously looking forward to cutting a swath through the caves of chaos.

I had the basic set from '82, and I am pretty sure it had the keep with it. either that or the local game store bundled it with the box sets.
