Rowan Piers (the surname given to bastards in Gradsul) was born to a barmaid in the docks district of Gradsul who had the great fortune of working for a innkeeper that didn't turn them out immediately. Rowan became a sort of mascot for the inn, The Dancing Fox. He spent much of his childhood listening to stories from the transient population of the inn, when not cleaning and running errands. When he was nearing his teens, the thieves' guild saw the value in having a runner who new the docks as well as Rowan and took him under their protection. Rowan took to the exciting life of a rogue with remarkable ease and spent most of his time either training with the guild or doing small jobs. He gained a reputation for cunning and an unusual amount of bravado. The one thing he lacked, though, was humility and the caution born of wisdom and this was his undoing in Gradsul. He became entangled in a torrid affair with the wife of the guildmaster (who has been known to ensnare more than a few young rogues in her time) from which he was forced to flee the city for fear of being keel hauled in the harbor. He fled to the Principality of Ulek, as he figured none in Gradsul would take him for a dwarf-friend and would be searching in the other ports of Keoland and beyond for him. Since arriving, he has been working his trade in ways that will not bring a lot of attention to himself and looking for opportunities to gain more stable profit from his skills.
