Thank you for the long and short of it. Very helpful.

If I understand it, an example would be: Paizo Pathfinder names a deity, Asmodeus. I want to create a character in a story line who is a follower of Asmodeus. I get that I cannot give any details about him that might preclude the reader from purchasing, say, Faiths of Corruption, but does than mean I cannot use the name at all, even as a reference?

That' the kind of thing I'm trying to get my head around.

Thank, again, ahead of time.

I would like to try my hand developing web modules for Pathfinder and other d20 systems. Try as I might, I can't understand how the Open Game License is used. Many companies seem to say the same thing (outside protecting their own inventions).

For example: How far is too far when using material from Pathfinder. I know the general rule is not to use anything that would keep the end user from purchasing Paizo products, but where is the line drawn?

Can I put a character generator on the web specifically for creating known Pathfinder classes? I can list all the Deities, but where must I stop in describing each one? These kinds of things. What if I'm not trying to make money on anything, just doing it for the joy of it? Either way.

I'd like a plain English description of what and how to use the Open Game License and what are its limiting effects. Am I making it harder than it really is?

Thanks ahead of time
