![]() The rules seem to not be clear about thus so here is my question. "..."Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess." If a NPC with DR5/Magic is hit how would you interpret this? One interpretation is that a hit bypasses DR for all the _smite evil_ portion of the damage and the DR is applied against the mundane portion of the weapons damage. The other interpretation is the all damage avoids the DR including mundane Thoughts? Thank you! ![]()
![]() Well done! Spoiler:
After my players decide to head back to Sandpoint they will hear about this political intrigue. They will likely be in the middle of Thistletop and will be itching to get back but one never knows Landon Winkler wrote:

![]() Hi fellow GM's. I would love some input about how you feel this can or would affect the campaign. Spoiler:
One of the PC's is a distant cousin of the Valdemar family. He also is an unwitting messenger for the Brothers of the Seven when he delivered a note on behalf of the 'business organization' to Aldern Fixglove.
With this background my idea is to have Magnimar playing hardball with Sheriff Hemlock where it boils down to they want a better tithe deal or they wont be able to help Has anyone done these types of things? A plot outside of the main plot moves forward and can have a real affect on things down the line? Ideas on how you did it and what did and did not work would be awesome. :-) Thanks very much in advance! ![]()
![]() Well, high enough resolution on battlemaps that they were not fuzzy when blown up large enough for tokens. Naturally, scaled to 1" = 5'. Most VTT's leave you able to enlarge and lay their grid over yours. I know roll20 does this. Other, say overland, maps don't need grids...just high enough resolution. AdventureaWeek optimizes for VTT's. check it out. ![]()
![]() This will be the one to open up my Midgard campaign. I was going to start in Margreve but that will come later me thinks. I am going to run this campaign on roll20 VTT. I only wish more publishers would optimize maps and images for VTT when making their PDF's and make it part of the package. The growth of VTT's is becoming exponential IMHO ![]()
![]() +1 @Jaynay27 Adding VTT or other virtual assets and usefulness to the AP's will not reduce usage but increase it. How many players cant find face to face games in this world? How many players would be added simply by increasing the pool of possible players? These are numbers that cannot be defined currently but adding this compatibility will increase total distribution not decrease it. ![]()
![]() I am having a Cavalier that is a distant cousin of the Valdemars join the party in the 2nd session... Spoiler: He is being sent by his mentor in the Brothers of the Seven 'Society' to deliver a note to Aldern at the dinner table with the heroes at The Rusty Dragon. He will then be able to join the party after helping them through the Catacombs.
My question is can I play the Brothers of the Seven as a totally normal society of rich people somewhat like freemasons and not be burned down the plotline in this AP? Whereas only one of them is involved in this mess? ![]()
![]() <------new PFrpg Inner Sea GM I wanted say that I played my first session a couple of days ago and endearing the PC's to Sandpoint was one of the key things I was hoping to begin to acheive. Down the line the PC's will have choices to make that are important to Sandpoint, all Varisia and even Golarion. Haladir wrote:

![]() There are threads here that talk about this AP kicking butt on parties on a fairly regular basis. I am running 5-6 and decided to level them when I see fit as opposed to using XP as well as have a few extra mooks ready in case the encounter needs them. I am just starting the AP so I dont know how this will turn out but I did a lot of research and thought this was the best approach for me. My Party consist of; Kellid Cleric - beginning player
Anyway, only one session in isnt playtesting so I will report back on how the balance is later. ![]()
![]() I am doing something like this. It's nice to not have one more thing to track and frees me to do GM stuff that is fun rather than bookeeping. I wholeheartedly recommend what Skeld says. Also, other threads mention that RotRL is tough and does TPK parties so even with 5-6 I decided to only throw in an extra mook or 3 on the fly to challenge the party until I get a better handle on their ability (I am only one session into the AP now). ![]() I am starting 5 PC's in RotRL on the 17th of this month. The party is; Human Witch
Since I will be awarding levels at appropriate times throughout the campaign rather than doling out XP traditionally it gives me flexibility depending on how powerful the party becomes. I am hoping to report how it goes. I will either link our Obsidian Portal site when there is a new post or add it here. I know your excitement, Aaron! ![]()
![]() Thank you for everyone's input. Based on my player's, I have decided to go with the minkai original note except that the characters written are coded. This way, Bethana can tranlate but when she does it is just a jumbled, coded mess in common. If they need help from there I will use skill checks for hints (which could easily include referring them to the right people in Sandpoint. It's really just a twist so that Tsuto wouldn't just leave a note so anyone could figure out immediately where to go. That was just too convenient for me. Again, thanks to all! ![]()
![]() Thanks, Haladir! Smart PC. I just dont like the easy-peasy translation telling them right where to go. The cypher was one possible solution where I would have rolls give thgem hints as to what kind of cypher it was and from there let them have at it. If it takes more than 5 min I let them roll again for another bigger hint, etc. I suppose they could also look about town for help in solving the cypher, maybe utilizing the good 'professor' Quink. Thanks again. ![]()

I have heard of them. I cut my teeth on Runequest and Call of Cthulu. I guess we liked the story and much as the battles. |
