Whoa! Wow, what a way to start the new year. I too, am glad to hear she is past the worst of it and getting better. Heh, did such a good job that I totally forgot someone other than Thalyn was running Rana :) Ahem. Thank you, thank you. I'd like to thank the Academy... Seriously, it was the makeup artists -- I look just like him, don't you think?
Rana will rush through right behind the half-elf, positioning himself to protect the other fighter's flank. If he has a target for his whip and won't provoke an AoO, he will attempt to disarm. If he has a target in range of the shortsword, he will use that instead.
Whip: Touch attack 1d20+3=10, Opposed strength 1d20+3=5
Shortsword: Attack 1d20+3=23, Damage 1d6+3=4
The goblins hit Ka'kara for 1 point, but the two in the back are blocked by Sandros and Rana. They react to that by putting an arrow in Rana's face for 7 points of damage.
Rana tries to stifle a cry of pain as blood flows freely from the wicked cut in his face. If only he'd ducked a little sooner... He rests his shortsword on the bottom of the arrow slit, and shoves it into the goblin when it steps back.
Rana attempts futilely to stab one of the hidden archers, as well. Shortsword attack damage 1d20+3=4, 1d6+3=9
Rana will keep pace with Sandros along the opposite side of the hall. He will duck under the murder holes on his side and if an arrow comes out of one, he would seriously consider shoving a foot-and-a-half of steel back in. Just to see if they are paying attention. EDIT: If Sandros is in 3217, please place Rana in 3218.
Rana glances over Proteus' shoulder at the map of the lair, then just shrugs. He does some stretches to get his muscles warmed up, closes his eyes for a moment, muttering something under his breath, and then his eyes snap open with focus. He draws the finely-wrought short sword from its scabbard, looking over the edge carefully. Then he readies the whip, carrying it loosely in his other hand. He nods to the designated door-openers and says, "Ready."
Meeting Rana's gaze unwaveringly, "Good, I'm glad you seem to be trying to master your own tendency to flee then."
Rana holds Ka'kara's gaze, equally unwaveringly. "I have my reasons for what I've done. As I've told this one," he gestures to Roylenna, "I know that I should not have abandoned the group and I shall not do so again."
"Yes, what do we know of these goblins? Numbers, strengths, abilities?" He looks at Sandros, "You are right-handed, are you not? Perhaps if I were on your left, I might shield that side for you." With a pointed look at Ka'kara, he says, "We must stay together, move with purpose. If we know nothing else, we know that goblins generally find strength in numbers. We must not let their numbers overwhelm us by dividing our group."
The trap needs to be reset manually, and simply removing the spiked club would make that impossible, so that is what Rana does.
Having removed the club from the framework, Rana hefts the thorny cudgel, considering it. He shrugs, puts the club over his shoulder, and looks to the rest of the group to determine where they plan to go next.
Rana tells the half-orc, "You do honor to yourself by being strong. You do well to protect us, especially the w... the little one. Do not let these tricks of a coward," motioning toward the still-swinging club, "be your downfall. Take your time and know that you do not have to do everything." Startled by his own long speech, Rana doesn't wait for a response, but moves over to the now-exposed trap and investigates to see if there is a way he can prevent it from being used again easily.
After the three man had pushed on the idol for a bit, Proteus suggests that it might be easier if Rana were enlarged using Roylenna's magic. With that, Rana redoubles his efforts and the statue is toppled. "I have no need of her witchery, priest." After a moment, he looks at the diminutive spellcaster and says, "No offense."
Rana moves to the now-exposed opening and waits for the inevitable discussion of what to do next.
Rana stands ready with one of his short swords in hand, watching back down the passageway as the others consider the ledge. "I have no rope. Do you see any reason to descend into the pit?" Squinting into the dark passageway, he says, "Witch, do you have more light for what lies behind us?"
Rana stretches as he wakes and closely watches the half-elf go through his rapier practice. With a small nod to himself, he busies himself with cleaning his swords and making sure that the edges are good and sharp. Listening to the discussion of where to go next, he laughs, "A decision without standing around like a gaggle of old women? Amazing! Let's be off!" He gathers his gear and moves toward the designated passage and turns to wait for the rest of the group to assemble in their typical marching order.
